Renala is sitting in an otherwise empty booth not too far from the bar itself, tapping on her omni-tool. There's a glass of water on the table before her. She's dressed in a dark blue snug-fitting, but not very revealing, top similar to the one she arrived in, as is the other clothing except that she's not wearing a jacket.
#Miner'sRespite – July 16, 2013
Steve enters by way of the stairs and heads over to the bar. After quickly spotting Renala, he speaks with the bartender for a moment. Several minutes later he approaches the asari's table with a plate of eggs and a cup of coffee. "This seat taken?" he asks, nodding towards the seat opposite of the asari.
Renala shakes her head, a small smile on her lips. "Of course not," she says. "Go ahead." She glances at her omni-tool and taps on it a few times to have its projection dissipate.
Steve sets down his food and drink and slides into the booth. "Wasn't interrupting anything, was I?" he asks before taking a sip of the black liquid in his cup.
Renala | "No, I was just looking for local job listings on the Extranet," Renala replies. "Plenty of programmer or IT tech jobs on Aite, but I've yet to find one near here." She picks up her glass of water and takes a small sip of it.
Steve jabs a fork into the eggs on his plate for a moment before taking a small bite. "Programmer or tech jobs? What happened to security?" he asks with a smirk, "Change of heart?"
Renala shakes her head. "I've made no decision yet," she says. "I'm just checking out my options." The asari sips her drink again. "Also, I've thought about it, and security would be a bit of a gamble for me at this point. I've researched the rates and found out I need two of them, or a long-term one, lest I'll have no money left shortly after the first."
Steve pokes a bit more at his eggs before responding. "Not to mention the whole 'chance of death' issue." he says with a smirk, "That'll put a damper in any plans." He glances at the table, eyeing empty space in front of the asari and leans back in his seat, "You know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right? We need to get some food in ya."
Renala | "Yeah, I'm aware of that," Renala says. "Just figured I'd do some job searching before I went to get breakfast." She sips her glass, pausing for a moment. "I've done more security jobs than I'd care to remember, so I know all about that chance of death."
Steve sets down his fork and leans forward, resting his elbows on the table, appearing genuinely invested in the conversation for the moment. "What drove you to that kind of lifestyle, if ya don't mind me asking. Don't take it the wrong way, I'm not judging... Just always been interested in what drives a person to willingly put themselves in harms way."
Renala | "A lot of things," Renala replies. "I just wanted to see the galaxy and desired action when I was young. Also, they pay damn well." She pauses, glancing at the bar for a moment. "I did pretty much anything really, not only merc work."
Steve shifts his weight onto one elbow and uses his free hand to grab his cup and take a sip of his coffee. "Not sure I catch your meaning," he says, setting the cup down, "Anything can entail a whole lot..."
Renala chuckles, leaning back. "It wasn't literally meant, of course," she says with a smirk. "But I've done a whole lot, not all of which I'll proudly recount here."
Steve nods. "And I'd never expect you to. We all have secrets. Anyone who says otherwise isn't someone to be trusted." he says. "But the goal-..." he continues, "-Is to keep from creating more secrets. More regrets. More mistakes. And if you figure out how to do that, let me know." he says with a laugh.
Renala | "Doesn't have to mean I regret all I won't tell, I enjoyed some at the time," Renala replies. "And yeah, I can understand that goal, but if someone figured out how to never make another mistake… Well, let me know." A smirk follows.
Steve nods and takes another bite of his breakfast, chewing silently for a few moments before washing the food down with a sip of his coffee. "I was planning on heading down to the mines later today or tomorrow, see if they're offering any work... You should come with. See what kind of positions they've got open. Ya never know."
Fera'Sel enters into the inn and moves towards the bar immediately. She sits on an arbitrary stool and pulls out her credit chit. Once a bartender reaches her, she orders the same drink she ordered the last time and looks around while he moves away.
Renala hums in contemplation. "That sounds like a good idea," she says. "Alright, just give me a notice when you head out." She notices the quarian walking through and waves at her before turning back to Steve.
Steve nods and scoops the last of his breakfast into his mouth. "Sounds like a plan." he says once he's done with his meal, "I've got a few things I need to take care of beforehand though. How can I get in touch with you?"
Fera'Sel notices the two conversing nearby, having been her first indication that the asari was around at this time. She watches them speak for a few seconds before glancing around to see what the bartender is doing.
Renala | "My room's through the third door along the wall to the left once you get upstairs," Renala replies with a small smile as she enables her omni-tool, "or let me just send my contact info." She sends it over via a short-range direct transmission, with full name and whatever addresses the extranet messaging/calling protocols use.
Steve glances down at his omni-tool and pokes at the interface for a few moments before allowing it to dissipate. "Alright, Renala," he says with a smirk as he stands from his seat, "You should be hearing from me soon." He gathers his cup and plate and drops them off at the counter on his way to the stairs leading to the second floor.
Renala | "See you there, Steve," Renala said with a nod of goodbye before he left. She sips the last of her glass and stands up as well just a few moments after. She makes her way over to the bar and assumes the seat next to the quarian. "Fera'Sel, right?" she says, to make sure she remembered the quarian correctly. "Don't mind if I sit here, no?" She looks at the food menu screen for a moment to see what to get for breakfast.
Fera'Sel turns around to face the bar once more when the asari sits down. "It's fine with me." She thinks for a moment. "...Renala, right?"
Renala nods, smiling slightly. "I haven't seen you in the last few days," she says. "Been looking for work, I'm guessing?" She waves down the bartender and orders a simple sandwich, and a glass of juice and a cup of coffee to go with it.
Fera'Sel sighs and grabs the bottle that's placed in front of her. With her other hand, she throws down a credit chit. "Yeah, but no one's returned my applications yet. I decided to take it easy for the rest of the day."
Renala frowns, knowing how quarians are generally looked upon. "They're likely biding their time to see how many they get to choose from," she says. "If the people I've met is any indication, this place sees its fair share of newcomers." The coffee and juice is delivered shortly after, but her sandwich is still not done.
Fera'Sel shrugs and takes a sip from her drink. She stares off into nothing for several moments after moving the bottle from her face before speaking once more. "That's not the first possibility I would've thought of, but it makes sense too."
Renala | "I assumed so too," Renala says, "but it doesn't hurt to not guess the worst case first now and then." She picks up her cup of coffee and takes a small cautious sip of the hot, not very good-tasting, drink. "I'm going to check if there's anything for me over at the mine today or tomorrow."
Fera'Sel takes another sip from the glass. "Let me know what you find. It's worth a shot for me too. Keelah..." She shakes her head at the idea and leans against the bar counter.
Renala looks at her with a tilted head, putting a hand on her upper arm. "Everything alright, Fera?" she says, not really able to see much outward expression from the quarian (tiredness, etc…), and is thus left to guess.
Fera'Sel shakes her head and straightens her back again. "Yeah, just had a thought about myself doing a manual labor job for twelve hours a day. I'm not exactly thrilled about the idea."
Renala nods and retracts her hand, picking up her coffee again. "Well, I'm hoping the mine's got more to it than that," she says. "That's why I'm going up there to take a look."
Fera'Sel nods in understanding before taking a drink from the bottle. She taps her gloved fingers on the table and turns her head to face the asari. "I hope so too. I haven't been to a place like this before."
Renala | "I'm not sure if I have, either," Renala says, "but I don't remember half of the places I've stayed at." She picks up the juice and takes a tentative sip of it.
Fera'Sel chuckles softly. "Must be nice being an asari, huh? You get to live a lot longer than any of the rest of us do."
Renala | "Eh, it has its ups and downs," Renala shrugs, glancing to see if her sandwich is coming up; it's not. "The lifespan's not perfect, even how easy it is to see it as that."
Renala nods. "Well, anyway," she begins. "If you're around, and it's okay for Steve, you could tag along when we go check out what the mine's got to offer."
Fera'Sel nods and takes the straw out of her bottle before slipping it back into her compartment. After sealing the bottle, she brings out the omni-tool to her left arm. "I'm sending over my omni-tool contact info now. Let me know if or when, and then I'll see if I'm able to tag along. Nice meeting you again, Renala."
Renala smiles at the quarian and enables her omni-tool's interface. "Likewise, Fera'Sel," she replies. "I'll send mine, as well." She taps on the interface, transmitting the necessary information. "I hope to see you there, then."
Fera'Sel nods in understanding and grabs the bottle. She moves towards the bar's entrance without a word and slips out of sight.
