Va'ynna is sitting in the booth nearest the bar on the bartender's right. There's an empty glass on the table before her and a datapad in her hand, though no plate. She's in her usual dark-red dress. Reading on the datapad, she is not very attentive to her surroundings.
#Miner'sRespite – January 3, 2014
Jason marches into the Respite in his usual garb, a blue and white hardsuit, and spots Va'ynna from the door. Approaching the booth with a smirk, he drops a datapad onto the table. "Evening V." he says, "Let me get myself a drink, be right back." he adds, inviting himself to join the asari.
Va'ynna turns her gaze sharply towards Jason, raising her brows. The startled asari managed to not drop her datapad, however. "Hey, Jason," she says with a sheepish smile. "Could you get me one too when you're up there... please?"
Jason gives another nod and slaps a hand on the table. "You got it." he says as he continues over to the bar and places his orders.
Va'ynna tilts her head for a moment, her smile still there. She remains in the booth, reading a bit more of her datapad before shutting it off and placing it on the table. Va'ynna glances towards the bar now and then, though.
Jason returns a minute or two later and slides a beer in front of Va'ynna. Setting his own drink across from her, he slides into the booth. "So what's new with you, V?" he says with a rather cheerful demeanor.
Va'ynna thinks for a moment. "Um, not that much," she says. "I'm still learning things around here to be less of a dead-weight." She reaches for the beer and wraps a hand around it, her other still resting on the frame of her datapad. "Oh, and thanks," she says with a nod towards the drink.
Jason pulls his own datapad in front of himself. "Don't mention it." he says, giving a quick glance over the datapad, "Things are coming together quite nicely on my end." he continues, looking up from the datapad with a big grin, "Things are still barebones right now, but we hired a few promising employees. Enough to keep up with the long-term contracts we've picked up, at least. We're a long way from being properly staffed, though... But more and more applications are coming in every day."
Va'ynna nods. "Oh, it's going that well already?" she says with a smile. "That's great." A sip of her drink follows before she ask. "What kind of people are applying?"
Jason gives a shrug, "Going well enough. We probably should've handled things the other way. We were reaching out to secure contracts before we even had a staff, so now we're rushing around playing catch-up. But yeah... I'd say 'well' is a good word to describe it." he says, his smile widening, "As for the types of people we're getting... I'm sure you can guess how it goes in this business. People from all walks of life. I think we've managed to pick up a few reliable folks, though. It's easy to cross the line in this field, so we're trying to make sure we put together a team we can trust to tow that line. A couple are a little rough around the edges, but I trust 'em." he says before taking a sip from his drink.
Va'ynna nods, again. "Probably a bad idea for me to work there, then?" she says. "I'm scared of going to a shooting range alone, even." She picks up her glass and takes a small sip of it. "Um, uh, why did you look for contracts before people?" Va'ynna assks with a slight tilt of her head.
Jason swipes at the datapad a few times and pushes it aside for the moment, "Well... It costs credits to hire a staff. We weren't sure just how quickly we'd be able to secure contracts, so hiring and paying a bunch of people that we might not have jobs for just wasn't in the budget. Things just took off a bit quicker than we anticipated. Not really a bad problem to have." he chuckles, "We're getting a handle on it, though." He takes another swig from his drink and clears his throat, "And you wouldn't be in any danger working at the office. We'd set you up with your own desk and everything. You'd never even see any action. But if you're intent on learning how to shoot," he shrugs, "You could tag along for some of our outings. Planning on taking the team down to the firing range sometime soon."
Va'ynna looks thoughtful for a brief moment, then a small smile crosses her lips. "I'd love to," she says. "Tess said we could go together sometime, too, but I haven't met her since that." She pauses, brining her drink up to her lips. "I'm ridiculously terrible at it, though, but that's why those places exist, right?"
Jason nods, smirk still firmly in place, "If things pan out right, she'll be joining us. Would love to have her on the team. She put in her application, but I still need to get her down to the office to talk a few things over. But there's definitely a spot with her name on it."
Va'ynna nods. "Oh, she did?" she says. "She applied to work in the office, right? ...Or am I misremembering something from when I first met her?"
Jason shakes his head, "I sure as hell hope she's not looking for an office position. I'd like to have her out in the field. But going by her application, I'd say she's looking for a combat role. I'll have to see when she stops by, though." he takes another sip of his drink. "So, you enjoying it here? The job, I mean. They treating you right?"
Va'ynna nods. "It's well enough," she says. "I'm still in training, so the boss won't let me take the more hectic shifts yet, and... my pay's still kinda low." She sips her drink.
Jason removes a small card from his hardsuit and sets it on the table. he places a finger on it and slides it across the table, staring at Va'ynna with a smile. "Just saying~" he sings as the card stops just in front of the asari. It's the exact same card he previously gave her, advertising his company.
Va'ynna takes the card with a nod, a small smirk visible. "Thanks," she says, "but I can't just walk away from my job like that." She glances down at the card. "My contract lasts through training," she says before looking up at Jason, "but after that, I think I can quit." She moves a hand up to scratch the side of her outermost crest.
Jason nods a few times, "I'm just kidding anyways... Well, mostly." he says with a chuckle, "If this place suits you, then stick it out. But just keep me in mind. We're really going to need to start filling out office positions soon. Right now, me and the boss-lady are pretty much trading shifts. We have enough contracts for nearly around-the-clock work for our field agents. Requires someone to be in the office in case of any... Complications. Right now it's pretty much a clusterfuck." he shrugs, "But we're managing."
Va'ynna smiles, looking at the card again. "Don't get me wrong... I'll consider it when I have to renew the contract," she begins, "but it's too early for me to tell if I'll like this job. I haven't had any late-evening shifts out front--" Her omni-tool's chirp interrupts her, and she shuts it without even looking, frowning. "Oh, I almost forgot. I've got to get back on work," she says. "I'll be in the kitchen, though, so I don't think you'll see me at the bar much."
Jason gives another nod and raises his glass, slugging a large portion down. "Take care of yourself, V." he says, "I'll see you around."
