#Miner'sRespite – January 19, 2014

Renala is seated at a booth nearby the bar, as usual. She has a nearly empty glass of brandy on the table before her. She is wearing a dark-blue top, which shows a little skin below the neck, but not much.

Steve enters the Respite from the front door. He's wearing his hardsuit without a helmet, and his weapon is holstered on his thigh. He's carrying a small dufflebag at his side. Spotting Renala as he moves through the bar, he makes a beeline to her booth. "Hey Ren." he says, tossing the dufflebag into the seat across from the asari, "What's up?"

Renala looks up at Steve as he approaches. "I got the job!" she says, a grin forming on her lips. "It's the same for you, I hope?"

Steve sighs and reaches for Renala's empty glass. "Sounds like a celebratory drink is in order. Let me get you a refill." he says, forcing a smile as he dodges the question, assuming his silence will be enough of an answer, "What's your drink of choice?" he asks.

Renala looks at him with a tilted head, her smile fading. "Oh, you didn't?" she says. "Wouldn't be right to celebrate, then, I think."

Steve shakes his head. "I haven't heard anything one way or another. No news is good news?" he asks with a shrug, "But either way... This is good news for you." he continues, his smile widening into something a bit more genuine, "Really. Let me get you a drink."

Renala leans back. "Can't say no to a free drink now, can I?" she says followed by a smirk. "Another glass of brandy would be nice."

Steve nods. "Brandy it is." he says. He gives his bag another quick pushing, forcing it deeper into the booth and against the wall. "Be right back with that." he adds before heading for the bar.

Renala nods, and waits at the booth for Steve to return, glancing towards the bar occasionally.

Steve returns a few minutes later and sets Renala's glass back in front of her, filled to the brim, "Here ya go." he says and sets a glass of his own across from the asari and slides into the booth. "So when did you find out?" he asks, a smile still present.

Renala returns the smile. "Thanks," she says. "I heard from them earlier today. Appearently they're expecting great things from me." She chuckles before adding, "No pressure."

Steve snickers before taking a sip of his drink, "Don't worry about it. You're great at what you do, Ren. You're going to blow them away."

Renala picks up her drink. "The people back in that mine didn't really have top notch security," she says. "So, I haven't really put my programs to the test yet." She sips her drink.

Steve shrugs and sets his glass back down. "You're smart, Ren. You'll adapt. Stop doubting yourself." he says, giving a quick nod, "You're going to do fine. You deserve this." he assures.

Renala can't help but smirk. "And so do you, Steve," she says. "I'd feel a lot more at ease there if you also got the job." She takes a long sip of her brandy. "I'll keep my word, though, and have a talk to Wolfe... hopefully he'll reconsider if I put in a good word."

Steve sighs and his smile fades away. "Don't worry about it, Ren. Really. I appreciate it, but I'd feel terrible if you lost this opportunity on account of me." he says, shaking his head, "No... I'll be fine. If I don't get the job, there will always be another."

Renala tilts her head for a moment, then sighs. "Alright, if you say so," she says. "We're going to have a party when I get my first pay, though. On my tab, of course." A chuckle escape her.

Steve raises his glass as his smile returns, "Well I'll certainly drink to that." he says, taking a long sip from his drink. He settles into his seat, looking a bit more relaxed than he did initially, "Sorry I had to run out on you the other night, by the way. You manage to get anything out of Iressa? Seemed like something was bothering her."

Renala shakes her head. "No, but I had to leave shortly after you did," she says, "but it's obvious something's up with her." She grows thoughtful for a few seconds before adding, "I think I heard the krogan's voice when I went to make food two days ago, and he didn't sound very happy if you ask me."

Steve nods slowly, looking a bit distant for a moment. "I didn't want to mention it, but I've passed by their room a few times while they were going at it pretty loudly. I just hope everything is alright..." he sighs.

Renala | "So do I;" she says. "To be heonst, I was surprised when I found out they shared a room." She takes a small sip of her drink. "Krogan are territorial beings, which is a poor trait for a roommate."

Steve shrugs and tilts his head to the side, "I was under the impression they may be more than just roommates." he says, "But that's their business. Just wonder what could've happened to cause such a rift between them..."

Renala shakes her head. "I don't know, either," she says, "I can't hear them from my room, so I don't even know when it started."

Steve shakes his head, unsure of what else to say on the matter. "I guess there's not a whole lot to do. It's her business, I'm sure she's handling it however she sees fit."

Renala sips her drink. "Yeah, but I feel bad for sitting by when there's obviosuly something going on," she says. "But I suppose I can talk with her next time I see her."

Steve taps his fingers against the side of his glass absently, "Good luck... You shouldn't be surprised if she doesn't want to talk about it, though... It's a pretty touchy subject." he says and raises his glass to his lips.

Renala sighs. "I know, but there's no harm in trying, right?" she says. "Anyway," she tries to change the subject, "what have you been up to, Steve?" A curious glance towards the bag follows.

Steve follows her glance and instinctively puts a hand over the bag. "Had to make a trip to Adrasteia." he says, shaking his head, "Definitely happy to be back." he adds with a chuckle, "That place is somethin' else."

Renala looks thoughtful for a moment. "I can't remember that name off the top of my head," she admits, even if she has a feeling she should have. "What did you do there, if you don't mind me asking?"

Steve raises an eyebrow. "Can't remember that name?" he asks, with a mock look of shock on his face, "Of our fabulous capital?" he scoffs but quickly begins to chuckle, "I don't blame you. The place is quite a shit hole." He unzips the bag and lifts a small pill bottle from it. From her position, Renala may be able to see numerous similar bottles in the dufflebag, "Difficult to get my hands on the stuff out here. I've got a contact in the city that's able to supply me with it, but like I said, that place isn't somewhere you want to visit. Getting a nice supply means I don't have to go back for a while. And after what happened..." he sighs, "Well... I was getting a little low."

Renala nods. "Oh... right, kind of knew I've heard the name before," she says before noticing the pill-boxes. "Oh... I hope that didn't set you back too much, since I can't imagine it being cheap if it's difficult to get ahold of."

Steve tosses the bottle of pills back into the bag and zips it closed. After giving a quick glance around the Respite, he rests his gaze back on the bag for a moment. "It's not cheap." he says with a slight shrug, "But it's a necessary evil."

Renala | "Oh," she says. "I can help you if you run low, given my job goes--" A too familiar chirping from her omni-tool interrupts her and she offers an apologetic smile. "I think I've got to get going."

Steve chuckles and waves a hand dismissively, "No need to be sorry. Go talk to your daughter." he says with a smile, "And don't worry about all this." he adds, patting the bag at his side, "I've got it taken care of."

Renala nods. "I'll see you around then, Steve," she says, a smile still present. She downs the rest of her brandy, causing her to have to clear her throat a little. She makes her way out of the booth, picking up the glass.

Steve raises a hand, giving a quick wave, "Talk to you later, Ren." he says. He takes a short sip of his drink before calling out to Renala, "And congratulations on the job!" he shouts, drawing a little attention from some of the other patrons.

Renala finds herself glancing around, a chucke escaping her. "Thank you," she says, somewhat louder than conversational volume, but there's still a smile on her face. She heads for the second floor, stopping by the bar on the way to pay for her first drink and leave the empty glass.
