#Miner'sRespite – January 21, 2014

Va'ynna is sitting alone in a booth near the bar, reading something on a datapad without paying much attention to her surroundings. She's wearing a dark-green shirt, much like the other day, but it doesn't really hug her features too weel. There's a glass of water on the table before her.

Zaylus ambles into the Respite, a noticeably wide grin on his face. He's taking no care to mind his own, meandering through the tables and people before coming up on a place at the bar. Leaning forward against the counter, he gives a sweeping glance at the number of patrons and employees present, and when his gaze passes over the deep purple asari, his grin fades slightly only to widen again even more. With sure steps he approaches her booth, placing one hand on the table and leaning in with a cocky smile. "Hey sweetheart, remember me?"

Va'ynna gasps, dropping the datapad, but catches it as the edge of it impacts with the table. The purple on her cheeks deepen for a moment as she looks at the turian. "Hey," she says. "I... I think I do. Zay...lus, right?"

Zaylus gives the asari a wink. "Right you are, darling." He says, sliding in across from her in the booth. "Or should I say, 'little Miss Va'ynna'?" he adds with a chuckle, resting his forearms on the table and leaning in. The turian lets a few moments pass as he watches her with a slight tilt of his head, probably making the asari somewhat uncomfortable in his gaze. "So..." He breaks the silence, leaning back in his seat and folding his arms. "How has my very favorite bartender been lately?"

Va'ynna brings up a hand to her neck, not being very subtle about it. "I've been alright," she says. "I... had to-. It's been a bad few days, but it's getting better." She moves the aforementioned hand to her glass, and takes a small sip of the water. The asari shuts off the datapad and lays it flat on the table.

Zaylus appears vaguely concerned, but still much to animated and showy to be completely genuine. "Someone around here messing with you?" He asks, vigorously scanning the patrons with squinted, accusatory eyes. When nothing in particular catches his attention, the turian swivels back to gaze at Va'ynna. "Anything I can do to make it better, let me know. No one scares me, babe." He assures her, still mostly just stroking his ego.

Va'ynna tilts her head. "Not... even a krogan?" she asks, the last word barely above a whisper as if the uttering alone would summon one. "Anyway, it's over now." She tries to make eye-contact, but averts it soon after, looking at some point past the turian. "What's... up with you, Zaylus?" In part curiosity, in part trying to change topic.

Zaylus seems to ponder. "A krogan? Hm... maybe." He says thoughtfully, shaking his head after a moment to bring himself back to the conversation. His grin widens once again and he places his hands back on the table, seemingly unable to keep still. "Just signed on with an up-and-coming freelance agency." He says, trying to seem fairly nonchalant about this acomplishment. "Yeah, they couldn't wait to have me on-board." The turian brags shamelessly.

Va'ynna smiles, her left hand digging in a pocket on a purse on the seat beside her. "Cong...ratulations, right?" she says uncertainly as she places one of the cards she got from Jason on the table. "Is it with this agency? It's the only one I know of."

Zaylus peers down at the business card. "Uhh..." He trails off, reaching into a crevice in his armor and unfolding the little wad of paper in it. He takes a moment to look between them before shoving his own card back in its safe place. "Yeah, that's the one." He nods, "You remember that... human." He says, adding a touch of malice at the very end. "This better be worth having to put up with that jackass for a while." He mutters, patting the card in his armor. "So tell me about these krogan troubles." He quickly returns to the previous subject, seeming genuinely interested.

Va'ynna sighs, glancing towards the staircase with what could possibly be interpeted as fear. "I... I don't think I should be talking about this," she murmurs as she returns her gaze to the turian, averting it a little. "One's living in the room beside me."

Zaylus follows her gaze and frowns. "What, you mean that one wandering around upstairs? Yeah, I've seen him!" He says, toning down the showiness but remaining just a touch louder than normal conversational volume. "I saw him sort of standing around in the hall, just last night! Weird fella." He shakes his head, reaching up to rub on one of his shoulders. "He's not bothering you, is he?" Zaylus asks once again, his tone turning serious, "I know he's a krogan, but that doesn't scare me. Not if he's messin' with my girl."

Va'ynna shoots another glance there before shaking her head slightly. "No, no, no," she says, almost defensively. "He is.... I haven't met any krogan before," she adds in a lowered voice. "They...they... scare me." Va'ynna looks a little ashamed of that, even if it's nothing to be ashamed of.

Zaylus gives his head a slight tilt, unsure of how to respond. After a moment's deliberation, he reaches over, offering a hand low over the table. "Don't look so down, sweetheart. Krogan aren't the friendliest beasts in the galaxy." He chuckles lightly before quickly adding, "Unlike your guy Zaylus here." The turian gives gives her a genuine smile, continuing to offer an outstretched hand resting against the tabletop.

Va'ynna looks down at his hand, concern written all over her face as she considers the talons for a moment. She inches her right hand, which already lied on the table, towards him; stopping near his hand, but not out of his reach. "As... as long as I avoid him," Va'ynna looks up at Zaylus. "I think I'll be fine. Not sure if-.... No."

Zaylus appears confused, "Something else on your mind?" He asks, glancing down at her hand for a moment before returning his attention to her. "I'm sure the big guy has no intentions of coming for you. Right?" He adds, leaving his hand where it lies for now.

Va'ynna sighs, glancing towards her hand once, which doesn't move. "No, I don't... well, maybe; depends," she says. "I... may have-. I don't want to talk about it. Please?" She glances towards the staircase once again, growing uncomfortable giving this matter more thought.

Zaylus quietly nods, pulling his hand back into his lap without contacting hers. "Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry." He murmurs, uncharacteristically low. The turian settles back in his seat, averting his gaze in what can only be assumed is guilt. "Anything... else happen while I was busy?" He slowly asks, not wanting to let an awkward silence persist or have to just having get up and leave.

Va'ynna retracts her hand in turn, too, a small frown visible. "No... not really, my shifts aren't very eventful," she says, a little more comfortable with this subject. "I'm a little worried about later shifts, which I will get after my training." She picks up her glass and downs most of it.

Zaylus returns his gaze to the asari. "Why are you worried about later shifts?" He asks in a rather normal tone of voice, keeping his hands resting in his lap.

Va'ynna looks towards the bar for a moment. "I'm not... good with people," she says, surprised that wasn't obvious, but she looks ashamed nonetheless. "Those shifts look stressful. And I... wouldn't be able to really stop and talk if... you or someone else I knew stopped by."

Zaylus frowns slightly, "Maybe spending time on those shifts might make it easier to deal with people." He shrugs, not often one for giving advice. "It's a shame you'd be too busy to stop and chat. Right? I'm not usually so horrible to you." He grins, tapping his palm with one talon.

Va'ynna thinks for a bit. "Mhmm," she says. "I like having time to chat with... the few friends I have. We'll see. I don't think I won't be able to take some of the earlier shifts again." Her omni-tool interrupts her and she frowns, standing up from her seat. "Oh, I got to get to work," she says. "I won't be at the bar, so I'll... see you later, I hope." She puts her datapad and card in the bag and zips it shut.

Zaylus nods, "Sure thing, Va'ynna. I'll be seeing you." He says, standing up in turn. "Maybe I'll catch you again when you're off." He offers hopefully.

Va'ynna picks up the bag, and gets out of the booth. She stands there for a a few seconds before giving a little wave, "Bye." She makes her way to the bar to the area beyond the door behind it.

Zaylus returns the little wave, holding it even after she's turned away. After lingering a few moments, he heads upstairs to turn in for the night.
