#Miner'sRespite – May 3, 2014

Va'ynna is sitting at the bar, alone, a half-empty glass of water on the counter before her. She's in a dark-green dress.

Halisi enters the Respite and walks over to the bar, standing a few seats away from Va'ynna as she orders a sandwich. She's wearing a colorful, loose-fitting t-shirt and a pair of jeans, looking quite out of place in the frontier town inn. She glances up at whatever's showing on the TV while waiting for her order.

Va'ynna glances over at the new arrival, recognizing her as the woman talking to Jason a few weeks back. She returns her gaze forward after a few seconds and takes another sip of her glass.

Halisi grabs her plate upon recieving it, along with a glass of water. She seems to have noticed Va'ynna's glance as she moves over to the asari and takes a seat next to her. "Hey there." She says with a smile before taking a small bite of her sandwich - although not before assessing it oddly for a moment.

Va'ynna raises her brows momentarily as she's spoken to before looking towards her. "Um, hey," she says, a little nervously. "You, uh, you're a friend of Jason, right?"

Well, I'm his doctor, as of a while back. I can't say we've talked all that much. You seem to spend a lot of time here.

Va'ynna tilts her head. "That's... a good sign, isn't it?" she says, a small smile visible. "I, um, work here," she adds.

Halisi looks curiously at Va'ynna while spending a rather long time chewing her second bite of the sandwich. "Shouldn't you be on the other side of the counter then?"

Va'ynna shakes her head. "Not until my shift starts," she says followed by a sip of her glass. "Unless they need me here earlier, which happens sometimes."

Halisi nods and sips her glass. "Between working for the Redrock Agency and helping out at the town clinic I keep pretty busy. Haven't had a chance to get to know anyone here yet. I'm Halisi. You?" She offers a friendly smile before taking another bite of her food.

Va'ynna is about to lift her hand, but drops the plan as the other woman don't extend hers. "I'm Va'ynna," she says, returning the smile. "Jason offered me to work for Redrock, but I... got a job here."

Halisi raises an eyebrow, taking a while to respond due to chewing. "Really? Didn't know Redrock was looking for a waitress."

Receptionist. I'm.... not sure what the job's all about, or... if I'd be qualified to answer calls for a, uh, mercenary company.

Halisi sips her water while she listens. "Well, as long as you're happy with what you're doing, right? I didn't expect to find myself working for a company like that. But they're legitimate. They did something good in rescuing me and my co-workers from... from those things."

Va'ynna nods. "I know," she says. "They... contained a situation here a few months ago, and I know some of them." She pauses. "What... was that about?" she continues, before quickly adding, "if I may ask?"

Halisi goes silent, taking a while to respond. "The mining team found something... in the asteroid. And then people started getting sick. Then... they turned. Into... these... things. Terrible. I saved a few samples that I've been studying. I think... it's some kind of ancient biological weapon." She glances out at the bar as if worried about someone listening in on them.

Va'ynna titls her head sympathetically. "That's.... I'm sorry to hear that," she says, looking a little nervous. "Jason... he didn't seem to take it well.... Nor did miss T'Iavay when she left."

I never had time to fear them. I was too busy trying to fix them... but nothing I did helped.

Halisi lowers her gaze to her food, looking at it in silence.

Va'ynna frowns. "You... said you brought a sample?" she asks, slightly lowering her voice. "Isn't it," she fidgets nervously, "dangerous?"

Halisi nods. "If not handled properly. But I'm careful. I... I just need to study it more. Need to find out what caused this. I can't let it happen again."

Va'ynna raises an eyebrow. "But...," she says, sounding a little nervous, "What... what if it's not?"

Halisi moves a hand to her forehead and rubs it with a sigh. "I-... I know what I'm doing. Really. But maybe I should destroy the sample. To make sure no one else gets a hold of it."

Va'ynna smiles apologetically. "I'm... I'm sorry," she says, keeping her voice low. "I didn't mean to say that, but something... that killed... so many..." she trails off, taking another sip of her water.

Halisi glances around and moves to the edge of her seat. She has a rather somber expression now. "I should go. I-... nice to meet you, Vanna."

Va'ynna frowns, and nods. "You too, Halisi," she says. "I... hope to see you... again."

Halisi nods and gets up, leaving her half-eaten sandwich behind as she heads out of the Respite.

Va'ynna remains at the bar for about twenty minutes before making her way around the counter and through the door to the staff area.
