Renala enters the Respite, bringing two travel bags with her. She's dressed in her typical brown leather jacket, halfway zipped up over a plain green top. She looks around the place before making her way over to the bar. She places the bags down by the bar stool before sitting down.
#Miner'sRespite – June 4, 2014
Alex is sitting at the bar, the hood of her jacket placed over her head. She looks up once the asari sits down, and squints at her.
Renala notices the human looking at her, and recognizes her after a few seconds. "Alex?" she asks, somewhat uncertain. A bartender, Aylena, comes around to serve her, and she just asks for a beer.
Alex blinks and nods. "Renala, right?" Alex rubs at her eyes, then holds the back of her hands against her neck.
Renala nods, and gets up from her seat. Bringing her bags, she moves over to the seat beside the human. "How are you doing?" she says.
Renala returns the smile. "I'm fine... I went back to Thessia for a while, spent time with my daughter, trying to forget about that hellhole."
Renala nods. "Yeah, but I'm divorced with the kid's mother since a year ago," she says. "Me and the kid are still talking, though." The bartender comes around and places Renala's beer on the counter infront of her before moving on to the next patron.
Renala chuckles. "Of course you are," she says. "Her name is Aeyna," She picks up her glass and takes a sip of it. "It'll be half a century, at least, before her mother would let her come visit me here."
Alex nods, and begins to kick her legs back and forth. "Nice name." She frowns. "That's a long time.."
Renala smiles, and pats her shoulder. "Don't worry, kid, I'm just glad to know you're alright," she says. "That was probably the worst first-impression one could ever have of that profession."
Alex smiles back. "You too." She sighs and looks down at her hands, "But I.. I don't think that place turned me away from, y'know that profession. I mean like.." Alex hums. "I don't know.. I'm weird."
Renala frowns. "Things don't just return to normal after an involving job," she says. "It normally doesn't get as... nightmare inducing as that, though. But yeah, there's something about it that have so many asari leave as soon as their mothers let them." She sips her beer. "Your truly included."
Alex nods thoughtfully, "That makes sense. In a weird way." She laughs a bit, "My mom would probably kill me if she found out about this."
Renala can't help but grin. "Oh, yeah, I can see that. Things are still not all good between me and mine," she says. "They weren't happy when I wanted to explore the galaxy."
Renala nods. "Yeah, that's good of them," she says. "I could put my skills to good use when I came back to settle down for my matron years."
Renala thinks for a moment, taking a long sip of her beer. "An asari life has three stages," she begins. "They are biological, sure, but don't dictate completely. Matron is in the middle, starting around age three-hundred-and-fifty, but could be a lot earlier. Matrons typically settle down and start families, but not all of us do."
Renala | "Matriarch," she says. "You'll be lucky to see one of them out of asari space, though. We don't have actual politicians back on Thessia, but if a Matriarch has an opinion on a matter, we'll be stupid to argue it."
Renala shrugs. "I can't complain about it," she says, "but there's probably millions who do for their own reasons." She takes another long sip of her glass. "I don't care much for politics, though."
Alex nods. "Most people don't.." She lays her head on the bar counter. "Politics give me headaches."
Renala chuckles, but a sound notification on her omni-tool interrupts her. "Well, I've got to get going," she says. "It was good seeing you again, Alex." She drinks the remainder of her half-pint of beer and stands up.
Renala returns the smile as she picks up her bags, and walks over to where Aylena is, and checks in. Afterwards, she makes her way upstairs to her room.
