#Miner'sRespite – July 14, 2014

Barry pushes his way through the door, just coming off a hard day's work on the rig. He makes his way to the bar and sits down, waving at the bartender. "The usual!" he calls over, getting comfortable on the chair and taking his hard hat off, leaving it on the bar.

Steve is seated at the bar with his back to the counter, leaning his elbows against it. He eyes Barry as the man approaches the bar, giving him a stern nod before his eyes shift back towards the entrance. In full-hardsuit, his knee jumps impatiently.

Aylena nods, already reaching for three glasses before he said his order. "Another good day at work?" she asks while pouring the first glass.

Barry smiles and nods at the other gentleman before looking at Aylena. "You know it, Aylena." he says with a wink. "Every day on the rig's a good day."

Renala makes her way down the stairs, dressed in her usual way. She spots Steve as she reaches the bottom of the staircase, and makes her way towards him. "Hey," she says, taking the seat beside him. "How's it going?" She nods to Barry after that.

Aylena finishes pouring the glasses and places them before him. "Good to hear," she says. "Isn't it risky to run a rig on this rock?"

Barry nods back at Renala with a smile as his beers arrive. "Evening, Renala." He says before turning his attention back to the barkeep. "Very. Between the wildlife, corporate espionage and sabotage, and the pretty bad weather out there, it's tough." He smiles even wider. "But that's why they hire only the toughest of engineers." He picks up his first beer and takes a hearty swig. "ooooh that hit the spot..."

Steve nearly hops off the stool as he spots Renala. "The fuck have you been!?" he snaps. He gives a quick look towards Barry and Aylena. Realizing he may have been a bit louder than intended, he bites his lower lip. "I thought-... Nobody knew where you were." he continues, lowering his voice.

Barry flashes a frown at Steve, thinking Renala might be in trouble, but the other guy didn't seem agressive. He looks back at Aylena, smiling.

Gregorij is sitting in a booth by himself (aside from Anna, of course). He has a drink in hand and appears to be listening to Anna, who's reading something for him.

Aylena nods. "Even running a place like this is dangerous," she says. "At least Aite is blunt about it, unlike some other world I could name." She glances around in case anyone is signaling for her, but turns her gaze back to Barry.

Renala frowns, thinking for a few seconds. "Home," she says. "I'm sorry. I meant to tell you, but I had to get away. I still can't look at a doorway the same, for Goddess' sake." Her voice is slightly lowered, and not very agressive.

Barry smiles and takes another sip of his beer. "Yeah, that's why we have security mechs." he says with a chuckle. "I don't know much about 'em though. Robotics isn't my major, but I could probably fix one given enough time and the tools." He looks around the bar, sipping his beer again. "You guys got a guard or something around here?"

Aylena gestures to Steve. "Yeah, he's watching the place," she says. "Mechs make some customers uneasy from my experience... especially after that disaster on the Citadel a few years back. I can see them working well in a mine, though."

Gregorij glances towards the bar as he overhears some of the conversation. He shoots a glare at Aylena and then takes a long sip from his drink.

Steve lowers his gaze towards the floor. After a moment, he nods a few times. "It's just-... First Zaylus disappeared, then you went missing. There's been no news on Rellis since we returned..." he shakes his head, "Not that anyone at Redrock is saying shit anyway. Since we got back, everyone just went quiet."

Aylena adds, "Armed mechs," as she notices the human's glare.

Barry nods in agreement, giving the asari a big smile. "Yep, but its not really a mine. My rig drills straight down." he says, sipping his beer. He lkooks over at Steve and looks him over. "Yeah, he looks like he could kick some arse if the worst came to worst." He finishes his beer and moves onto the next one. "But yeah, the mechs just patrol where they need to, but we got regular guards too." he sips his new beer. "Gotta say, I feel really safe when I'm on my rig."

Renala sighs, remaining quiet for a few seconds. "I hope that's good news," she says. "Since the friend we made in here didn't come back for us, maybe they took care of him?"

Steve gives a shrug and leans back against the counter. "Maybe... Like I said, there hasn't been a particularly strong flow of information coming my way since you left." He glances over at the asari and a short smile crosses his face for the first time in a while, "I'm glad you're alright, though."

Aylena chuckles. "Thankfully I don't need that much security," she says. "I have enough trouble keeping this business going as it is. Long-term, I mean."

Barry smiles and raises his pint. "And I intend to help by drinking my fill here." he says and swigs his drink. "The least I could do." He puts the glass down and runs a hand through his hair. "Do you feel safe here?" he asks. "That's the most important bit. If you feel safe, I'm sure the pub will last forever."

Gregorij returns to listening to Anna's reading. "...have confirmed that they have the correct location. His sources were unable to confirm her status. Extraction is considered too high-risk."

Renala returns the smile, and places a hand on his shoulder. "You too, Steve. Sorry, I should have said something," she says. "I haven't heard anything from Redrock either, aside from payment."

Steve shakes his head. "Nothing to be sorry about.. I get it. You had your reasons." He takes a drink of his water and nods, "Yeah, it's not my place to question it. As long as they keep paying me on time, I'll keep showing up for work." he says. "So... Home?" he probes.

Aylena nods. "Yes," she says. "Or maybe not. It's when you feel safe everything goes to hell the next second.... Safe enough, I guess."

Renala nods. "I was on Thessia. My ex let me stay at their place," she answers. "I couldn't tell my kid what happened out there, though, but she understood I didn't want to talk about it... after a while."

Steve shifts uneasily. "Oh... Guess it was probably nice to spend some time with the little one, huh?" he asks, "You and the ex able to get along?"

Barry smirks. "Not in my experience." he says, smiling. "But don't worry. I'll keep ya safe. Even if I can only smack the bad guys over the head with my trusty wrench." He says, then laughs heartily.

Aylena can't help but laugh. "Let's hope it doesn't come to that," she says. "Bar brawls are bad for business." She's still smiling, though.

Barry chuckles and nods in agreement, finsihing his second beer. "So how're your day been, Aylena?" he asks, starting his third pint. The big guy was feeling a bit of a buzz coming on.

Gregorij has emptied his drink, and looks at it in silence for a while before having a quick word with Anna. The mech soon gets up and starts moving towards the bar.

Renala lets out a small smile. "Yeah, kind of," she says. "I think she realises that I wouldn't just disappear when she kicked me out." She pauses. "The girl was a little unhappy about me disappearing for six-seven days without much notice, even though I told her not to worry."

Doesn't work that way, Ren. People are gonna worry about you whether you want them to or not. Especially when you just up and disappear.

Steve drills a hole through Renala with his stare as he stresses his last sentence, but his smile quickly returns.

Aylena thinks for a moment. "It's been slow," she says. "I don't mind it much, though. We're a little understaffed at the moment."

Barry smiles broadly, sipping his beer. "So you've got a little extra time on yer hands?" he asks, politely enough. For a big, rugged manly man that is.

Renala | "I know, I know," she sighs. "I wish I had some more warning on that job, but the girl would worry about a krogan if she knew one."

Anna reaches the bar, grabbing it with its left hand while waving her right to get Aylena's attention. Its expressions is the polite smile that seems to be the default for the model.

Steve chuckles to himself. As the mech approaches the bar, Steve glances at it awkwardly. "Those things weird me out..." he says as he stares at Anna.

Aylena shakes her head. "Unfortunately, no," she says. "Once Atana takes over out here, I've got paperwork that needs doing. Getting the best deals on supplies here.... It's a volatile market to put it mildly." She notices the mech waving. "Give me a moment," she says to Barry before walking over to serve her. "What can I do for you?"

Barry nods, listening. "That's a shame..." he says, swigging his beer. "Yeah, sure." he says, waiting for her to come back.

Renala glances at the mech before looking back at him. "Reminds me I have some docs on the Hahne-Kedar stuff I've yet to read up on," she says in a low voice.

Steve continues to watch the mech. "Hmmm?" he hums, "What kind of 'stuff'?"

Anna lowers her arm. "Greg would like some Terra Novan vodka. He heard you were supposed to have some."

Aylena hums thoughtfully before glancing at the nearest terminal. "He were right, then," she says with a faint smile. "Bottle or glass? Or both?"

Anna seems to stop to process briefly. "Both."

Combat mechs.

Steve nods and manages to pull his attention away from the mech. "Could be useful out in the field."

Aylena nods before making her way along the back wall, looking over several bottles before finding the correct one. She places the bottle on the counter -- it's about 1.15l/40oz in volume --, and picks out a glass.

Barry watches Aylena do her thing, finishing his third pint. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't a little drunk.

Anna grabs the glass and bottle. "Thank you, Aylena. We will pay it with the fee for the room, as usual." She turns around to head back towards Gregorij.

Renala | "Yeah, it is," she says. "Especially if some asshole sicks an YMIR on us. I'd settle for shutting one off, of course, but... flipping the friend-foe table may be possible."

Steve snorts loudly, "If we ever see any action again..." he says, "I'm beginning to think this is it for us. Security and bouncing. That last job really seemed to take the wind out of Jason's sails."

Aylena smiles. "You're welcome," she says before making her way back to just across the counter for Barry. "Anything else I can get you?"

Barry shakes his head, sitting back. "Its high time I left, anyway. Gotta hit the sack soon." He then smiles. "But before I go... I think you're cute. You should be cute with me for an evening, and see how it goes." he says, looking a little hopeful. Did he just ask her out? I think... I think he did. He's a little drunk, which probably helps.

Renala nods. "I wouldn't blame him," she says. "He seemed to have been hit the hardest by the shit we saw on that rock." She thinks for a moment. "Maybe we should pay them a visit some day and check on them?"

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. At the very least, it can't hurt to see where the company we're working for stands, right? I mean, don't get me wrong, this gig doesn't pay too bad for what it requires, but I'd like a real paycheck every now and then.

Aylena raises her brows, staring at him for a few seconds in disbelief. "Goddess. You're joking, aren't you?" she says, remaining quiet for a bit before reluctantly adding, "I'm a few years short of seven centuries...."

Renala nods. "Yeah, but I'm kinda enjoying the downtime," she says, but her omni-tool interrupts her before she can say anything more. "Oh, I've got to get going."

Barry squints a little. "I may be a little drunk..." he says with a smile. "Guess that goes to show you still look pretty good." he says, then facepalms. "I've probably just made a fool of myself, haven't I?" He can't help but laugh though. Even he found it funny.

Aylena chuckles. "Don't worry about it," she says with a smile before she sees another patron signaling for her, and she makes her way over.

Steve gives a few short nods. "Yeah, no worries... I should probably get back in the office anyway." he sighs. "Just-... Don't go disappearing on me again." he says, giving the asari a smirk before standing from his stool and making his way back towards his office.

Barry chuckles, smoothing his hair back again. "Oh Barry, you silly man..." he says, leaving a few creds on the bare. "Off to bed with you before you do something you'll regret..." he picks up his helmet and makes his way for the door.

Renala holds up her omni-tool to mute the repeating notification. "I'll do my best," she says with a smile before standing up. "I promise." Shen then makes her way up to her room.

Anna sits down with Gregorij again, putting the drink down for him and then going into its default mode of just sitting in silence.

Barry skedaddles out of the bar.

Gregorij has downed a some of his drink and is staring distantly at the empty glass.
