Barry walks through the main door, still scruffy looking. It looks like he cleaned his jumpsuit recently, as its not AS dirty as it normally is. He looks towards the bartender and smiles. "Usual, friend!" he says as he sits down.
#Miner'sRespite – July 19, 2014
Aylena nods, having picked out three glasses on seeing his approach. "On it," she says as she starts pouring the beer. "Another good day at work, huh?" She places the first glass on the counter before him before getting to the others.
Barry nods, taking off his hard hat and setting it down on the bar. "Always," he says with his winning smile. "And, eh... sorry about the other night. Bit of the old beer-goggles situation." he sheepishly rubs the back of his neck.
Aylena can't help but grin. "'Beer-goggles'?" she chuckles. "Don't worry about it. If I took offence to that, I'd have been out of here long ago." She finishes pouring the other glasses and hands to him.
Barry takes the glass and gives her a nod. "Thank goodness..." he says. "Its been eating at me. Thought I'd made a bit of a whoopsie." he gives her a friendly smile and swigs his beer. "Mm... that's the good stuff."
Aylena glances around to make sure none are requesting service before looking back at him. "I've been young, too, you know," she says. "There were still suitless quarians around, but still..."
Barry raises an eyebrow and chuckles. "That must've been a sight." he says and sips his drink. "And as for being young, we all were. We won't all look as good as you though. You're a little old for me, but you're cute after only a few drink-" he stops himself short. "I'm about to say something I'll regret."
Damien treds through the main door, his armour now completely dyed over in a blue digital pattern, the insignia of the Blue Suns removed in its entirety. His visor hums a light blue, before he reaches up and unseals the full face helm, tucking it under his arm and running a hand through his hair. He moves to the counter, perching himself upon a stool and placing the helm on the counter.
Barry looks down the counter at Damien, looking over his armour. "Nice suit," he comments. Barry's wearing a dirty blue jumpsuit with a heavy toolbelt. The insignia on the shoulder is of Atlas Mining Corp.
Renala makes her way down the stairs, looking around the place. She notices Barry, and makes her way across the room towards the bar. The asari's clad simply, a short-sleeved simple dark green top showing some skin below her neck, but only the faintest bit of cleavage. She takes the second seat on Barry's left and looks towards him. "Hey... Barry, was it?"
Damien turns and nods to the man, smirking softly. He turns back to the counter and waits quietly for the bartender.
Barry spins on his seat, hearing the voice of a familiar Asari. He grins and gives her a nod, followed by his best smile. "Good evenin, Renala!" he says. "Yep, Barry. Nice to see people around here remember me!"
Aylena places a hand on her forehead, but an amused expression is clear on the rest of her face. "Oh, Goddess," she mutters, but moves over to Damien. "Good afternoon," she says, appearing much more composed. "Are you finding the room alright?"
Damien nods lightly. "Yes, comfortable. Though I have a feeling I'll have to find more permanent lodgings soon." He chuckles, tapping his arm absentmindedly.
Renala returns the smiles. "And you remembered me," she says. "I'm barely down here..." She looks around for the bartender, giving a small wave before looking back at him. "How's it going?"
Aylena nods. "Not a bad idea, that's for sure," she says. "Some demand you're working somewhere around here, though. Anyway, can I get you anything?"
Barry swigs his beer and lets out a light hearted laugh. "Renala, I barely see another soul during the day before I come here, so I make it a point to remember each one I do meet." He puts his glass down and tilts his head. "Eh, I guess you could say things are going the same they always do. Not much different in my day to day routine."
Aylena picks out a glass. "Sure," she says as she makes her way over to the beer tap, returning with a full pint-glass a few seconds later. "So, did you check out Redrock Agency?"
Damien nods, placing the required amount of credits on the counter. "Yep, sent an application form in an' all that." He sips at the beer before speaking again. "Going to see if I can't meet the boss-lady sooner rather than later so I can start getting some coin in. This armour dye wasn't cheap."
Renala nods. "I was hoping to find a less... action-filled job when I got here, too," she says. "There wasn't many jobs in software development to find, and I had kind of grown attached to this place." A sheepish smile follows.
Barry smiles, looking around the bar. "I think working in a hotel and bar is alright. Its a way to make a living on a small colony, y'know?" he says after sipping his drink. "As for action-filled, there's not much out on the rigs that I consider action. Never gets boring though, always something to do, keep your mind going. Unless everything's running smoothly." He then puts his hand in his pocket and pulls out a small data pad. "Then I find a good crossword."
Aylena nods. "Pays well, I've heard," she says. "Don't take my word for it, though, even if a few of them are staying upstairs permanently."
Damien chuckles lightly, taking a deeper drink from his beer. He sighs contently and casts a gaze to the loud man and his companion.
Renala signals for the bartender once more before turning back to him. "I work for Redrock, I think I told you. Most of my work is reading docs and reverse engineering pieces of tech, but I've had more close calls on the job than I'm comfortable with."
Barry blinks and nods. "Right, right..." he scratches his head. "Long day in the sun. Brain's a little frazzled." He says with a smile. "I went to Redrock the day after I last talked to you about helping with the medi-gel dispensers in the suits, but they turned me away. I guess coming in in a dirty jumpsuit wasn't a good idea..."
Renala tils her head. "Medi-gel; I don't follow," she says. "Are you sure that was me you were talking to?"
Barry scratches his beard and sighs. "I... to be honest, I don't know..." he says, losing his smile. "I've, uh... not really been sleeping very well, y'know?" he painfully admits. It was hard for him to let his guard down, but Renala seemed nice enough. "Only thing keeping me sane is the rigs, I reckon."
Renala frowns. "Lots of reasons for that out here, I suppose." Aylena comes around to serve her and she asks for a small glass of beer, receiving a half-pint a moment later.
Barry nods slowly. "I dunno... just laying up at night asking myself 'is it worth it?'. I mean, I love my job, but... I don't really have much else going on, y'know? Just the same old thing day in, day out. I go to work, I come back. Tide comes in, tide goes out." he sighs and hangs his head slightly.
Renala hums thoughtfully. "I had a few decades of that," she says. "I had a bondmate and a little one to come home to, though." She picks up her glass. "Didn't work for me in the long run, but that's besides the point."
Barry nods slowly and sips his beer. He gets a little smirk and nods. "Yeah, having someone to go home to would be nice." he says, then chuckles. "haven't really met many women appropriate for me around here though."
Renala smiles slightly. "A stable job like that would help you in the long run, though," she says, "when you finally find someone, I mean. I feel bad for my kid every time I know I won't be able to answer her calls."
Barry nods slowly. "Yeah, I suppose... doesn't really let me meet many people though." He gives a quick laugh, then sighs, looking at Renala again. "I'm sorry to hear that, about your child. I don't really know much about asari, but living that long must make things hard."
Damien finishes off his drink and places the empty glass down. He dons his helm and nods to the bartender before leaving the establishment.
Renala lets out a small smirk. "Thankfully she's staying with her mother, but I don't visit her too seldomly. It'll be around half a century before her mother would let her come all the way out here."
Barry smirks and finishes his beer. "Half a century..." he says, followed by a small amused chuckle. "I'll be a very old man by then."
Renala nods. "Yeah, I know," she says. "Not that I've been able to take care of her here, either. I never know how long jobs with Redrock is going to take, and my ex would kill me if I left the kid home alone."
Barry nods and sighs. "Must be tough though," he says, scratching his beard. "I don't think I'll know anything about that for at least a few years though. Not in a position to have any of my own kids. Not yet."
Renala sips her drink. "I don't think I'll be having any more anytime soon. Not as long as I work for Redrock, at least. I'll be lucky if I see the day Aeyna grows up to live on her own."
Barry puts a hand on Renala's shoulder and gives her a friendly shake. "Hey, everything will turn out good, alright?" he says with a friendly smile. "Your daughter will grow up to be a good woman, and you'll see her again."
Renala looks thoughtful for a moment, then returns the smile. "I have no doubt she will," she says. "I hope I'll live to see it, but, well... that last job went to hell and back."
Barry nods with a friendly smile, sure that everything will turn out right. "What was your last job, if I may ask?" he asks.
Renala looks away, staring at the wall for a moment. "An asteroid mining rig had gone dark," she says, looking back at him with a slightly grim expression. "It was a fucking nightmare, nothing anyone of us could have expected."
Barry remembers that they've talked about it before. He winces a little, realising he's just made her relive memories she probably wanted to forget. "I'm sorry..." he says, giving her a friendly pat on the shoulder. "My job here has been my... third mining job now." He says, trying to change the subject. "One on earth, then one in the middle of nowhere on Mars."
Renala nods, though she's quiet for a few seconds. "Earth's your homeworld, right? I think I've heard of Mars, but I'm not sure," she says. "Mind if I ask what--" A call notifiaction on her omni-tool interrupts her and she briefly checks the 'screen'. "Sorry, I've got to get going," she says. "It was nice seeing you again, Barry."
Barry stands up and offers the asari a hug. "We'll have to finish this chat soon!" he says with his friendly smile. "You have a good evening, yeah?"
Renala stands up in turn and winds her arms around him in a hug. "You too," she says with a small smile. "I'll see you."
Barry gives her a short, but tight hug before letting her go. "Soon, I hope." he says and puts some credits on the bar. "Hey, Aylena, I'm gonna head out!" he calls over with a wave, then taps the credits. "This should cover my tab, right?"
Aylena makes her way over and picks the chits up, checking it against the screen of the nearest terminal. "Sure, that should cover it," she says. "Have a nice day."
