Va'ynna is sitting on the booth nearby the bar, for herself. The asari's clad in a dark-gray dress with green trims, the same she wore when running errands. She's looking at her omni-tool, a little inattentive to her sorroundings.
#Miner'sRespite – August 4, 2014
Jason steps through the door, wearing his hardsuit, and makes his way straight towards the bar, looking for whoever is on duty.
Aylena is typing on a terminal as she notices the familiar man approaches. She taps on it twice more before making her way over to greet him. Despite being evening, it's a fair bit slower than it used to be just a few days ago. "Hello, Wolfe," she says. "What can I do for you?"
Jason glances around distantly towards the back door, as if he's looking for someone or something, and sighs to himself. "Hey Aylena..." he says, "I heard about what happened... Steve filed a report with us. Sorry about all that. I was hoping to speak to V. Is she working today?"
Aylena frowns. "We were spared most of the action," she says, "but I've had enough work cleaning up this mess, ontop all else going on." She pauses, then gestures to her left. "Va'ynna is in a booth over there," she says. "It's a slow night, so she's on call."
Jason raps his fingertips against the counter with a sigh, "At least nobody in here was hurt." he says and gives Aylena a parting nod before moving towards the indicated booth. He stops just short of the table. "Hey V..." he says tentatively.
Va'ynna jumps a little at being addressed, probably due to being in her own little world. Her omni-tool dissipates quickly and she looks up to him. "Hey," she says. "How... are you?" Her voice is a little flat, and she show signs of tiredness.
Jason lays a hand flat on the table and slides into the seat across from her. "Not too bad." he says with a smile, "A bit tired. Had a lot of paperwork to deal with today." He shifts in his seat, attempting to get comfortable, "How about you?" he asks, "Heard things got pretty loud over here..."
Va'ynna looks at the table. "Mhm," she hums faintly. "I heard shooting..., I...," she says, keeping her voice low. "Then one of them was in... the garage. It was.... I was afraid." She winds her hand around an empty glass on the table before her before looking back at him, but she doesn't continue.
Jason nods a few times to himself and lowers his gaze to the table. "Of course you were. That's a scary situation." He returns his gaze to the asari, "Nothing wrong with being afraid. It's a normal reaction to something like that. Hell, I'm afraid every time we go out on a job. Nothing to be ashamed of."
Va'ynna is quiet for a few seconds, thinking. "I know, but I.... It could have gone worse... and I would have been helpless," she says before glancing at the glass. "I... also saw one of them. When... D'Inea and Briggs escorted her."
Jason | "The asari?" he asks, "From the sound of Briggs report, it seems like she was somewhat of a victim." He goes quiet for a moment, unsure of whether he should inform her of the rest. He sighs and sits back in his seat, "Apparently it had some sort of connection to Rellis." he says, "The salarian from-... the disturbance here."
Va'ynna frowns. "I... heard them say that name," she mutters, "but... I forgot that was... him." She lowers her gaze again, opening her mouth to speak, but no words come out and she closes it again.
Jason leans foreward, resting his forearms against the table. "Hey." he says, "Don't worry about it. We're not gonna let anything bad happen to you, V."
Va'ynna closes her eyes for a brief moment, then nods. "D'Inea told me... that four others also.. helped," she says. "Even... if it's not their job." A tiny smile shows up on her face.
Jason smirks. "Yeah... Steve mentioned that a few other employees of ours were here when it went down. Not gonna lie." he says with a slight chuckle, "I'm a little proud. Happy to see that they're willing to step up and help when they can. That's why I do this." he gives a short shrug, looking somewhat embarassed at his own pride, "But don't worry... Freedom Falls is our home, and you're family now. Redrock isn't going to let anything happen to family."
Va'ynna looks down at the table, looking a little unsure. "I... I don't..... Thank you," she says. "It.... It means a lot to me." She moves a hand up to wipe beneath the eyes.
But... I still think it might be a good idea to get you familiar with a weapon. Just to be safe, ya know? How about we make a trip out to the shooting range soon?
Va'ynna raises her brows. "But... I... I...," she begins, feeling a little conflicted. "Yeah, I... suppose I should, but... there... there will be armed people there... shooting."
Jason raises a brow and nods slowly. "Shooting-... at targets." he corrects, "And I'll be right there with you. You have nothing to worry about." he assures the asari, punctuating it with a smile.
Va'ynna smiles sheepishly. "i... I suppose I can come with you someday," she says. "I heard.... D'Inea is looking to hire... someone else soon, too, so... um, maybe I'll have more free time."
Really? That'll be nice. Does she already have someone in mind, or is she going to be taking applications?
Va'ynna looks thoughtful for a second. "I don't think she has... time for that; applications and interviews, I mean." she says. "As for who's on her mind... um, she didn't tell me much about her, other than she's a quarian staying here."
Va'ynna nods. "There's... only one staying here," she says, "but yeah... we don't see many of them. I didn't know... anything about serving them. If our water is safe, and... things like that."
Jason | "Yeah, our shit will fuck them up pretty fiercely. I've known a few quarians." he says with a shrug and a goofy smile before adding, "Their women can't get enough of me." with a stupid wink. "Was always stressful getting together food and drinks for big get-togethers. Post-it notes help."
Va'ynna tilts her head, but can't help but smirk for a moment. "I can... understand food, since you really have to be... careful preparing it separate from levo food," she says, "but... we have designated shelf space for... dextro drinks, and I... always double check when serving it."
Jason glances back towards the bar with a nod. "Yeah, having it all separated nice and neat like that probably keeps it simple. But when you've got a bunch of assholes drunk and pouring their own drinks?" he shakes his head, "Just a recipe for disaster."
Oh... I didn't think of that. I... usually don't work at the bar when there's a lot of... drunk people around.
Well, it's not like they'd be pouring their own drinks here anyway... That's what they've got you for!
Va'ynna smiles slightly. "We do have some," she says, "but most of our guests ordering food are levo. A dextro order can... slow things down if we have a group ordering food, though." Her omni-tool interrupts her before she can say any more and she glances at the projection, muting the notification. "I... didn't expect she'd call so soon," she mutters before looking up at him. "I'm sorry, but I have to go."
Jason frowns. "Sure, sure... Leave me here all alone." he groans, but a smile follows. "Alright, V. You take care. We'll talk more later about getting you down to the range."
Va'ynna stands up from her seat, picking up the empty glass. "Thank you.... I... appreciate you coming here," she says. "I'll see you again."
Jason gives the asari a nod as he climbs out of the booth. "Don't mention it." he says, "Just wanted to make sure you were okay."
Va'ynna fidgets a bit. "Thank you," she repeats before making her way over to the bar, exchanging a few words with Aylena before making her way up to her room.
