#Miner'sRespite – April 16, 2015
Pip has parked the truck around the corner from the Respite, leaving her coat draped across the seat. She steps into the Respite, tipping up her cap as she takes note of the bar
Shyva'Nahl slips out as well and shuffles to Pip's side, giving her a little nudge. "H-Hope you h-have a plan on getting home, Pippy." she says. "Drinking and driving's bad, mkay?"
Aylena is busy talking to Va'ynna who has shown up for work a few hours ago. They're near the door behind the bar, not speaking loud enough for patrons to overhead.
Pip pauses and looks at Shyva sheepishly. "I, uh, actually didn't think of that," she admits. "I'll improvise."
Shyva'Nahl nods and chuckles. "A-Already looking after you." she says, taking her hand and walking towards the inn. "W-We call taxis for inebriated customers all t-the time, w-won't be a problem."
Shyva'Nahl looks back at Pip. "A-Anything over o-one standard drink is illegal. I d-don't want you to get caught for drinking and driving."
Pip blinks. "This place has law enforcement?" She asks. She ponders for a minute, before chuckling. "The Militia? Those bozos?"
Shyva'Nahl nods and chuckles a little. "Y-Yeah, but I still wouldn't risk pissing them off." she says. "N-Not worth it."
Aylena walks over to the bar. "They're not law enforcement, exactly," she says, "which also doesn't hold them back if they truly don't like you." She pauses. "Anyway, what I can get you two?"
Shyva'Nahl smiles and walks up to the bar with Pip. "J-Just the usual j-juice please." she says with a smile, then between Pip and Aylena. "C-can I start a tab, please? D-does my employee discount still apply?"
Pip sniffs and doesn't respond to the remark about the militia. "What kind of beer do you have?" She asks.
Aylena finds a datapad, taps on it a few times, and hands it over. It is a full drinks menu with more than one page. It currently displays the beer sorts and their prices which are mostly in the 10-20cr range with a few outliers in either direction. "Mostly local brands," she says. "Human companies to be specific. You make up the majority around here, and few of you trust any other species to brew it right."
Pip takes the datapad and shifts through the drinks, tapping her chin in thought. "I think... I'll just take the whiskey I had before," she says, though she pauses for a moment. She casts a sidelong look at Shyva with a small smile. "Uh, the cheaper one, thanks."
Shyva'Nahl blushes a little and looks down, not saying anything. She's still embarassed about that one.
Aylena nods and goes to get the bottles, returning a moment later. She pours a glass of the Whiskey before handing it to Pip, and the juice bottle to the quarian. "Was there anything else?" The asari moves over to the terminal to write it down on the tab.
Shyva'Nahl inserts her 'emergency induction port' (see: Super swirly twirly straw) into her helmet then into the juice. she takes a small sip and smiles. "Mm. Lovely." she says, then nudges Pip. "T-That's Aylena, my boss. B-Be nice."
Pip chuckles. "I figured that out," she smirks as she takes a moderate gulp from her drink. "Ah, that hits the spot."
Shyva'Nahl smiles and leans into Pip. "G-Good." she says. "W-When you're here... it'd help a lot to be respectful and s-stuff towards the staff. It'll be better in the long run if things go well for us."
Pip wraps an arm around Shyva's shoulders and smile confidently. "Alright, I swear that I'll be well behaved around the Respite," she declares.
Shyva'Nahl grins. "G-Good." she says, then jabs her back. "A-And don't make a mess! Like I s-said before, I'm the one that keeps this p-place sparkling."
Pip grins cheekily. "But if I don't," she points out perhaps not too seriously. "Then you'll be out of a job!"
Shyva'Nahl blinks. "T-That's... really n-not a good thing..." she mumbles. "I k-know there's a 'dirty g-girl' joke in here somewhere..."
Pip winks and nods sagely. "You said it, not me," she says, taking another sip from her drink. "The real question is if it's true or not?"
Shyva'Nahl smirks and nudges her. "Is it?" she asks. "Y-You dodged my question earlier on p-pretty well, m-maybe you aren't."
Shyva'Nahl chuckles and sips her drink. "G-Gonna dodge again?" she asks. "Or are you g-gonna tell me what y-you like?"
Pip looks at the quarian in a slightly skeptical manner. "Dodging for now," she says. "I'd prefer to tell you not in a bar."
Shyva'Nahl chuckles and reaches around Pip to squeeze her waist. "F-Fair enough." she says. "T-Thanks for b-bringing me out t-tonight."
Pip smiles warmly, pulling Shyva towards her. "My pleasure," she says, finishing off her drink. "Been here barely a week and now look at me!"
Shyva'Nahl can't help but laugh as she sips on her purple fruit juice. The liquid inside swirls and twirls through her loopy straw before reaching her mask. "I've b-been here... a month? T-Two? A while now. L-Look at me!"
Shyva'Nahl blinks and tilts her head. "Y-You okay?" she asks, clocking the warmth in her smile fading.
Va'ynna emerges from the door to the back as soon as Pip waves down a bartender, and she walks over to them. She is a little nervous as she steps outside, but shakes that off quickly enough and a small smile shows up. She's in a dark red dress.
Pip looks up at Va'ynna and smiles, pushing the glass towards her. "I'll have another whiskey, please," she says.
Va'ynna picks up the whiskey bottle placed under the counter and takes the glass. She pours it, and puts the glass on the counter.
Pip nods her thanks, tipping most of its contents back as soon as she takes the glass. She places the glass down, a slight blush coming to her cheeks from the alcohol. Eventually, she responds. "I'm fine, Shyva," she says, giving the quarian's hand a gentle squeeze. "I'll... Tell you in private. Not here."
Shyva'Nahl nods and squeezes back. "O-Okay." she says before sipping her drink. "H-Hey, h-how long have you been here? A week, right?" the quarian asks. "Y-You from Earth?"
Pip nods, spinning the glass on the counter. "Yeah, I am," she says with a nod. "It was a shithole. At least where I was born, anyway."
Aylena walks out the door behind the bar, and takes a left turn before she's out of view and the door behind her close.
Shyva'Nahl nods as she finishes her juice. The straw makes a little gurgling noise as it empties. "W-Where on earth are y-you from?" she asks, looking her in the eyes now.
Pip returns the courtesy as she speaks. "England. In a county called Lincolnshire," she explains. "Mostly agriculture, but I was born in a seaside town. It sucked, but I wasn't there long." She pauses and finishes off her drink. "We moved to a city, further north."
Shyva'Nahl nods as she listens. "B-Big city?" she asks. "N-Never seen a s-sea before. That couldn't h-have been that bad."
Pip nods. "Big," she says. "And the sea was appalling, at least there. Dirty and full of junk. I honestly preferred the city. I learnt a lot there."
Shyva'Nahl hmmms and looks down the bar. She sees Va'ynna was with a patron so she waits. "N-Never even seen a BIG city!" she says, then chuckles. "I've o-only ever see freedom falls."
Pip smiles and waves her hand idly. "If you're rich or middle class, you're fine," she says with a smidgen of heat. "If you were poor, like my family, it isn't so kind."
Shyva'Nahl nods and goes back to listening intently. "I s-see... w-which is why you l-lived on the street for a w-while?" she asks.
Dad lost his job, mum couldn't find work, we lost the house. Luckily, dad found work eventually... With a gang.
Shyva'Nahl lets out a little gasp as she listens. No wonder Pip became a thief. She understood a lot more now.
Pip continues her tale. "And we stayed there. Shit, I learnt how to read and write with them. The gang's boss, no less."
Pip laughs. "I loved it! I didn't work as a factory worker or as some damned prostitute," she says with a faint drunken slur.
Shyva'Nahl blinks and chuckles a little. "I'm g-glad you didn't." she says, giving her a squeeze. "M-Means I d-don't have to share you."
I had a bigger family. I learnt how to take apart a vehicle and put it back together blindfolded! I can- ahhh, you're sweet.
Shyva'Nahl giggles and blushes a little. "I t-try." she says. "S-So they taught you to be a mechanic?"
Pip shrugs. "Well, 'mechanic' is the legal term," she admits, now in full swing. "I CAN fix anything! I also can hack, alter, rig and other things related to electronics and mechanics...".
Shyva'Nahl smiles widely behind her mask. "T-Then finding a job should be e-easy around here." she says. "At l-least, with t-those skills it should, de-depending on where you go."
Pip leans against Shyva, waving for another drink. "I s'pose," she says. "But I prefer to work alone. Freelancer is what I am!"
Shyva'Nahl gives Pip a squeeze. "Sounds like a g-good idea." she says. "W-Work for yourself, c-contract work... stuff like that?" She then tilts her head. "A-Are you sure you should h-have another?"
Shyva'Nahl strokes her side and nods a little. "Yes, b-but... I t-think y-you might be a little further than... t-tipsy."
Pip snorts and giggles. "Probably," she says as she bats her eyelashes at the quarian. "Okay okay okay, tw- three more!"
Shyva'Nahl shakes her head. "O-One more." she says, then taps her nose. "D-Don't want a hangover, do you?"
Va'ynna takes the glass and the bottle and tilts her head. "I think... I may misunderstand, so... to be clear," she says, looking at the quarian. "Is the... single for you, or changing her order?"
Shyva'Nahl shakes her head. "Nope, single for her. I t-think she's getting just a little ahead of herself." she gives the human a little nudge.
Va'ynna smiles slightly. "A single for now," she says, pouring the glass and putting it on the counter in front of her. "Ask... again if you'd like another glass."
Va'ynna brings up her hand to her mouth as she stifles a giggle, and she looks at the quarian with a sympathetic tilt of her head. She then gets waved down by another customer, and makes her way over to them.
Shyva'Nahl nods at Va'ynna to acknowledge it, then looks back to Pip, raising an eyebrow. "One o-our first date?" she asks. "Well, p-predate?"
Shyva'Nahl sighs and rolls her eyes with a smile. "I guess y-you cant drive... a-and money's tight..." she murmers. "F-Fine. But just for one n-night."
Shyva'Nahl can't help but giggle slightly at the nuzzling, even if she can't really feel it. "Y-You are so gone." she says.
Shyva'Nahl chuckles and waves Va'ynna over. "After a gl-glass of water. I've read it makes hangovers better."
Pip sticks her tongue out at Shyva and pokes her gently on the mask. "I bet you five credits I won't," she says with drunken bravado.
Shyva'Nahl raises an eyebrow. "F-Five whole c-creds, huh? High roller." she says, then nods. "Deal."
Shyva'Nahl looks at Va'ynna. "Hey Va'ynna, can we get my tab?" she asks. "I t-think this lovely lady is just about ready for bed."
Va'ynna nods and walks over to the terminal, and taps on it a few times. "There's... nothing on it," she says, "there's three glasses of whiskey on hers, though."
Shyva'Nahl blinks and looks at her empty juice glass. She decided to ask Aylena about that tomorrow. "D-Don't worry, I've got this." she says, glancing at Pip and handing her credit chit over to Va'ynna.
Pip gives Shyva a slightly annoyed look, but it disappears almost instantly and is replaced with a small smile. "Thanks, babe," she says.
Pip smiles and stands up, grabbing the last glass and downing it in one. She places it back on the counter and grunts, shaking her head which makes her ponytail whip around. "Deal," she says
Va'ynna types on the terminal and the tab is cleared, giggling a bit. She doesn't say anything, though, and glances both ways to see if anyone needs anything.
Va'ynna tilts her head for a moment, then nods. "Not out here, though," she says. "This was... just because D'Inea needed me... to step in for her for... about an hour."
Shyva'Nahl nods and smiles. "T-Then I'll see you tomorrow." she says. "Have a g-good evening!" She takes Pip's hand and leads her towards the stairs.
Shyva'Nahl walks along beside Pip towards the stairs, then up them. "Watch your s-step." she mumbles as they walk. "a-almost there."
Pip still has enough of her senses to walk up stairs... Unsteadily. She giggles again and looks up at Shyva. "I need t-to walk behind you more often," she laughs.
Shyva'Nahl blinks and looks back, unsure about what she means, then realises she's probably talking about her butt. She blushes and lets out a little squeak. "O-Oh y-you..."
Shyva'Nahl snickers and giggles at Pip, making sure to have a firm grip on her hand. "I-If you say so!"
Shyva'Nahl shakes her head as they walk down the hall. "Almost." she says. A few seconds later they arrive outside her door. "N-Now we are." She inputs her passcode and the door clicks open. "Its not much, but... its home."
