Steve chuckles a bit and shakes his head. "A realist? Maybe. I think I've just been around the scum of the galaxy long enough to see how things really work... I didn't want to see you getting mixed up in all of this, but I didn't have anyone else to call... So thanks. Just be careful, cuz this back you're watchin'? It's got a whole lot of targets on it."

Renala nods. "That's part of the job, though," she says. "Even with Redrock Agency and their ideals."

Steve sighs and nods. "Ain't that the truth..." He remains quiet for a moment before looking over at Renala, "I'd appreciate it if this didn't get back to Wolfe and the others. My past is my past, and I'd like to keep it that way, ya know? Don't need them poking around in my business."

Renala raises an eyebrow. "Why the hell would I mention this to anybody?" she says. "I would be happy if none of this crap was traced back to either of us."

Fair point. I don't think we've got much to worry about, though. Wildlife will take care of those two. Can't imagine they've been around Freedom Falls long, so I doubt their disappearance will even be noticed by anyone other than whoever they're workin' for.

They're the last people we'd want following the trail, though.

Renala keeps piloting the car, glancing around now and then.

Maybe. Maybe not. They wouldn't be here if they didn't have reason to suspect I'm around. Losing two people ain't something to shake a stick at. They're pretty financially-minded and, like I said, there ain't no money to be made off of me. If they see this lil' manhunt of theirs as a net loss...

Steve gives a shrug. "Maybe they pack up and move on..." He chews his lower lip for a moment before adding, "But that's probably just wishful thinkin'..."

Renala frowns. "Or they want the losses to count for something," she says. "We'll find out eventually, I suppose."

It's possible. Like I said. I made quite a stir on my way out. Pointedly. Tried to make sure that they knew that comin' after me probably wasn't gonna be good for their health... Looks like a few of 'em may be dumb enough to see it as a challenge.

Try not to make me steal any more cars in a hurry, though.

Renala chuckles.

Steve frowns. "This definitely wasn't what I had in mind when I got up this morning and thought about what I was gonna spend my day doin'." he says. He nods towards a small hilly clearing in the distance. "May as well set 'er down over there. As good a' place as any."

Renala nods and turns the car towards the clearing. "Neither what I had in mind for after work," she says.

Make sure you keep your eyes open. You see anyone out of place at the Respite over the next few days, shoot me a message.

Renala descends the car onto a spot on the clearing. "I'll do that," she says, "but you've got the best view of the place." She opens the doors and canopy.

Steve grabs ahold of the side of the car and hops out. "Can't be there all the time, though. I'm gonna go through the security footage and see if those two have shown their faces at all over the past month, though. Maybe get an idea of how long they've been around."

Renala steps out of the car after shutting it off, and enables her omni-tool. "Wouldn't they have followed you out already if they've been there before?" she asks. She is tapping on her omni-tool while walking around the car to scan for transmissions.

Steve gives a shrug. "Maybe. Maybe not. May have needed to confirm with their superiors. If that's the case, then it means they know where I am, and they'll probably be taking another shot. I'm hoping it was just a bit of hubris on their part, though. Hopefully we'll know more after you get some time with the omni-tool."

Renala stops at the side of the car and crouches down. "I wouldn't bet everything on those smashed-up things having anything recoverable," she says. "Looks like it has a transmitter of some sort, but it's hard to tell what it's transmitting."

Steve puts his hands on his hips and watches as Renala studies the car. "Any way to find out and put a stop to it?"

Renala gets down to all fours while moving her omni-tool around. She taps on it and runs a program. "I can," she says and taps in a command. "And done. There's no telling what the receiving end did with the data, though... so we better get going."

Well, if this is the vehicle's last known location, then we should probably move it now that the tracker's turned off before we hike back to town, right? No sense in leaving any bread crumbs to follow.

Tell ya what, you start heading back into town. I'll take the vehicle out a bit farther, just to be safe.

Renala frowns. "I don't know crap about the wildlife around these parts, though."

Steve gives a bit of a shrug and gestures to the car. "Suit yourself. I ain't gonna turn down some more company." he says before hopping back into the passenger's seat. "Let's take 'er out another quarter mile or so. If they decide to come lookin' for their car, they'll probably just figure you disabled the tracker when they come up empty handed at the vehicle's last known location,

I'd wager."

Renala hops into the driver's seat. "I hope they've got a fucking good insurance," she says, "or a company crazy enough to insure anything out here." She closes the canopy and doors and starts the car, and a moment later, they're in the air again.

Not our problem. That's the law of the Terminus, right? If you can't protect your shit, it wasn't really yours to begin with. You were just holdin' it til' someone else came along to take it from ya.

Renala nods. "True," she says, "but a few tens of thousands isn't just something they'd write off without an investigation. And if anyone saw me..." She turns the car and speeds off towards the north-east.

Steve raises an eyebrow as he ponders on it. "So... You want me to handle her? If you think she's gonna be a problem..."

Renala shakes her head. "That's probably a bad idea," she says. "The woman who ran out after me was... Atana's mother, and any harm that come to her would get the agency picking up the leads I'm sure." She sighs. "Just my bad luck the first and best vehicle I could find in a hurry was outside her apartment."

Ata-... That skittish little shit at the bar? You jacked her mom's ride?

Steve blinks at Renala a few times before bursting into laughter. "Shit, Ren... You are a fuckin' trip..."

Renala chuckles nerviously. "I had no fucking idea where she lived," she says. "I've met her before, though, so if she saw my face, then... shit."

Steve rubs at his forehead, but an amused smirk still sits across his face. "Well then let's hope she didn't... May not wanna be seen around her geared up. Might want to consider getting it repainted, just to avoid the issue entirely. It's a little bit pricey, but I got ya into this. I'll compensate you for it..."

Renala nods. "I have the next three days off if I'm not mistaken," she says, "and I can wait until I get to work before I put on my armor."

Your choice. If you decide to get it repainted, just sent me the bill. Last thing we need is this leading to even more issues with Redrock... We've got enough on our plate where they're regarded.

Fair enough. I'll see to getting it repainted, but the omni-tools are first priority.

Renala keeps dirivng forward, waiting for Steve to indicate where to drop off the car. "Jason's probably going to ask why I got it repainted, though. Not sure if he'll buy that 'I like that color better'." She chuckles.

Steve nods over towards an area dotted with some trees and tall grass. "Should be able to break sightline of the car by sitting it down over there." he says before addressing her statement, "I think Wolfe has enough on his mind right now to worry about the color of someone's gear. I doubt he'll even notice."

Renala turns towards the indicated spot. "And I don't think T'Rea has ever seen me in my gear," she says. She sets the car down on that spot and opens the doors.

Steve wastes no time hopping out and looking over the area. "Yeah... This should work." he says, satisfied with the location and the cover it provides. "Hope you're not afraid of a bit of walking."

Renala hops out after him and closes the door. "I'm tired, though, since I've been up all night," she says, "but I should be fine." She enables her omni-tool and shuts down the car and locks it.

It takes the pair a good hour or so to hike back to town. It's still morning, but people are out on the streets once more and most of Freedom Falls' stores are open at this point.

As the pair re-enter town, an asari leaving a clothing shop begins to scrutinize them, her eyes dancing over Steve for an abnormal amount of time before she smiles and bows her head to the passing pair. "Good morning." she says before heading on her way.

Steve locks eyes with the asari and holds her stare for a few moments before returning the nod and muttering a "Mornin'..." as he passes by.

Renala has taken off her helmet to draw slightly less attention to herself. "Morning," she responds back in a groggy voice.

Steve glances back over his shoulder as they continue down the street. "Well..." he begins, turning his attention frontward once more, "...Was plannin' on doing some grocery shopping this morning before all that went to hell. Suppose I should take care of that. You make sure and send me a message if you're able to get anything off the omni-tool, alright?"

Renala nods. "Just don't expect hearing anything from me until far into the afternoon," she says followed by a chuckle. She doesn't seem to care about the asari greeting them.

Not a problem. I'll be on duty tonight, so I shouldn't need to worry about them gettin' to me without me seein' 'em comin'.

I'll see you down at the bar, then.

Steve gives a nod and nudges Renala with his elbow before splitting off from her side and heading towards his destination. "Take care, Ren." he calls out.

Renala offers a small wave. "You too," she calls back before continuing on her way back to the Respite.

A human male exiting the Respite nearly bumps into Renala due to his focus on his omni-tool. "Oh shit... Sorry." he says with a sheepish grin as he looks up at the asari from whatever he was typing, "These things can get ya into a lot of trouble." he jokes with a shrug.

Says the one not looking where they're going.

Renala snorts and continues in without paying further attention to the man.

The man, feeling sleighted after his good natured apology was ignored, mutters 'What a bitch..." under his breath as he continues on his way, nearly bumping into another person a little further down the block as he continues to poke away at his omni-tool interface.

Renala doesn't check on him, intent on getting to her room for some much needed sleep.
