Skythix walked around the table with her glass to stand next to Jason on the side with his good arm, facing the same way he was. She understood the acceptance of death. It was pretty standard game that most turians knew how dangerous the things they did were but always ran head first into it. Of course no one wanted to die. It would go against what it meant to be a living being but

there were ways to live without being alive. "Trust me you're fine. Even if you are a vile man." She said jokingly. Her head was angled down towards the glass in her hand but her eyes were focused on the man she was shoulder to shoulder with. "Something to do would be wonderful, wouldn't it? Something to break the monotony."

Jason takes another long sip of his drink as the turian speaks. Once she's finished, he sets it on the table beside him and rests his hand on his leg, giving a short chuckle at her joke. "Have you had a look around town?" he asks, "I mean, it may not be the Citadel, but it's not too bad. A trip down to the market district is a good way to spend the day. I head out that way with V

sometimes-..." he shakes his head, realizing she would have no idea who that is, "...Va'ynna. The bartender. You should come with us. See what Freedom Falls has to offer."

Skythix chuckled lightly. "I don't think anything can even come close to the Citadel. I had a bunch of shore leaves there and it's probably my favorite place in the galaxy." She missed that station probably more than she missed home although there was a special natural aspect that it just couldn't replicate perfectly. "I went outside the city limits once. It..." She paused and felt

herself get warmer. "Didn't go so well." She reached over to grab the bottle of brandy to pour herself some more. Spirits was that an embarrassing day. "I encountered a woman with a YMIR mech on the edge of the forest who befriended the robot. It was the most ridiculous thing I'd ever seen. It would have been plenty funny if she didn't draw a gun on me then." Her face turned angrier.

Should have just shot her and then her stupid robot and done the galaxy a favor.

Jason raises an eyebrow. "Befriended the robot...?" he repeats, "How the fuck do you befriend an YMIR mech?" His confusion turns into a chuckle, "See? That's what I'm talking about! You don't come across shit like that in Council space." he continues, almost sounding as if it was an endorsement for Aite. "Bit of advice, though: I wouldn't go too far outside of Freedom Falls. This

planet is pretty much a free-for-all. It's a miracle that this town has managed to dodge the gunfire for this long."

Skythix let out a sigh and drank more from her fresh pour. "I can take care of myself. She or the mech wouldn't have been much of a threat." She paused. "But yeah, I'm definitely not going back out there alone. I'm just glad I had my rifle with me." She then knocked her shoulder into his with a look of disbelief. "What do you mean dodged gunfire? Wasn't there a shooting downstairs

not too long ago? I mean sure, it wasn't a targetted attack but something tells me you turn ten years old on Aite and you're handed a gun and told to go nuts." She tried to say the last part straight but it ended up dissolving into laughter. She took another healthy draught from her glass. Spirits, it had been a long while since she actually had fun drinking with someone else and a

human no less.

Jason puts his hand up, palm outward, "Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Freedom Falls is the safest place in the galaxy, either." he admits, "But from what I've seen so far, it's definitely the safest on this rock. Bandits. Raiders. Pirates. Slavers. Gangs. They don't seem to be a part of everyday life here like they are elsewhere." He goes to take another sip of his beer but frowns

once he realizes it's empty and tosses it at the trash bin. It hits the rim and falls to the floor. "...Need my good arm back." he mutters with a sigh as he readies a fresh bottle in the same manner as the previous, "Point is, you can make a life here. That's more than I would say about the rest of this planet."

Skythix waved her hand back and forth at Jason. "Yeah yeah, I've seen that picture at least ten times tonight; Aite is dangerous but still pretty cool. That about right?" It seemed to be a repeating theme so far tonight, lots of talk with no action. "I wouldn't mind taking you up on that offer of browsing around Freedom Falls but what about tonight?" She asked with a hopeful twinkle in

her eye as she leaned closer to Jason. "I'm fresh out of the military, joined a merc gang far out in the terminus, and am getting drunk with a one armed ex-Alliance human. When does my real initiation into your insane world begin?" Her face and voice looked equal amounts teasing and hopeful.

Jason gives the turian a playful nudge in the shoulder with the bottom of his bottle. "We're not a gang." he corrects, "PMC is the term you're looking for." He gives a slight shrug and slides further onto the table, lifting his legs off the ground. "Don't mean to kill the fun, but I think I've got more than enough on my plate right now without running around town tonight." he says, giving an

apologetic tilt of his head, "Besides, Doc would probably kill me if she found out I was out and about. She's mad enough that I'm not laying in some bed down at the clinic." he mutters.

Skythix huffed out a laugh and shook her head when he bumped her. "Whatever helps you sleep at night." She shifted her weight against the edge of the table and looked around the slightly cleaner mess of a room. She'd have to agree that at least it was a lot better than an infirmary bed. She shrugged again and gave Jason a half grin. "Oh come on. I'm pretty sure you're allowed to walk

around the town. You lost an arm not a leg." She used her one boot to kick Jason's foot gently. "Besides, how much could you possibly have on your plate that you agreed to have some drinks with me. You've already given me your night, why not go out and have a little fun?" She tempted him, poking a talon at his chest. "I promise to have you back by your bedtime." She flashed a toothy

grin close to his face.

Jason seems to consider it for a few moments and opens his mouth to speak, but merely closes it and shakes his head. "I really shouldn't..." he says as he hops off the table and sets his beer down. He straightens up his posture and places his hand on the turian's shoulder, giving it a bit of a pat, "I appreciate the offer, though. There's just a lot going on right now." he continues

with a sigh, his demeanor changing a bit as everything else seems to set in. "As soon as I've got everything straightened out I'm gonna take you up on that offer, though." he adds, forcing a smirk.

Skythix let out a long sigh when Jason denied her. She brought herself to match the human's posture out of reflex when she realized that she wasn't going to get her way. Shortly after he pat her shoulder, she fell back into an indignant posture that had a hand on her hip with it cocked out to the side. She made a light growling sound from her throat and her mandibles fluttered for a

moment. Her eyes wandered over to his missing limb before looking back at him. "You're no fun." But she couldn't blame him considering she didn't really know anything about his schedule or how his injury actually felt. "I'll hold you to that you know." She raised a browplate at him and narrowed her eyes in a threatening posture.

Jason mutters a "Yeah, yeah..." as he wanders over towards the desk and begins to rifle through one of the drawers, "I'll have you know I'm plenty of fun. A fuckload of fun!" He pulls a small pill bottle out of the drawer and pops the cap off with his thumb. After dumping a few into his mouth without counting, he sets down the pills and makes his way back over to the table, "Just so

happens that you joined up at a bad time when it comes to 'fun'." he mumbles through a mouth full of pills, gesturing abstractly with his hand. He reaches over and grabs his beer to wash the pills down.

Skythix raised a hand when Jason threw back so many pills with a surprised look on her face but ultimately digressed. She wasn't about to make the doctor's lecture that she'd gotten hundreds of times before that she was sure he'd gotten as well. "Yeah, a fuckton of fun at the bottom of pill and beer bottles." She scoffed which leaded into a laugh. She capped the rest of the brandy that

she didn't finish and drank the rest of her glass that was filled before. "You really want fun you should have seen our company after a mission. Anyone on the off shift was plastered and even then most of them were sneaking off with each other into any private crevice they could find." She raised her brow plates one in emphasis. "Not that there's plenty of other ways to have fun." She

walked around the table, tracing the tip of her talon over the other scratches left by Jason's attempts to open bottles one handed.

Jason slugs back a large portion of his beer and sets the bottle back down with a snicker, "Sound like my kind of people..." He retakes his seat atop the table-throne, "Used to be how it was for us. Had this little shit hole on Omega we'd hit pretty much every night, job or no job. Dancing. Drinking. It was a blast." he says with a sigh, his smile widening as the memories come flooding

back, "Was back before we were calling ourselves 'Redrock'. I don't know-..." he continues with a shrug, "Maybe I've just grown a bit more bitter over time. Shit just keeps piling up, one thing after another." He goes quiet for a moment, glancing over at his beer, "But I'm still fun." he insists with a smirk.

Skythix shuffled back over to where Jason was sitting and shook her head at him. "You're too young to be this cynical." She raised her hand pat the side of his face twice. She couldn't tell human ages that well yet but she was pretty sure he was at least under fourty. "Let someone else handle some things from time to time, yeah? That way you don't have to shoulder everything yourself."

She leaned her back against the table just next to his leg where he sat. "I know I'm new here but I have just as much experience if not more than most of these pups on this planet." She turned her head to grin wide at him.

Jason scrunches up his nose and blinks a couple times as his face is patted. "Yeah well... Most people haven't seen half the shit I've seen..." he mutters under his breath. "All of this Redrock business is just new for me." he admits, "I mean, I've been in this position for a while now, but when it comes right down to it I'm not a paper pusher. Bills. Dealing with clients. Setting up

jobs. Ordering equipment..." he scoffs. "It's a lot to take in. I'm just doing the best I can right now. Vasquez always handled that stuff." he admits, giving another glance towards the photo, "I handled things in the field."

Skythix | Skythix's eyes wandered around after Jason admitted to witnessing the awfulness the galaxy had to offer. She understood to a point. Maybe not as close or as in depth as dealing with it all directly but she's dealt with the aftermath. Rescuing people off of a batarian slaver ship was something you'd never forget. "I did my service, two years training and fifteen years of actual

tours and jobs. You've seen it all in my file. Trust me, sometimes all you need to do is ask for a little help." She turned her head back at him and pat him on the leg for a reassuring touch. Maybe it was easier for her just because she had higher ups to fall back on for certain things but she had done her fair share of paperwork too. She ended up following his gaze to where the photo

frame was about his mate. "Tell me about her." She asked in a gentle tone.

Jason glances at the turian's hand for a moment before focusing back on the photo. His smile returns and he gives a nod, "Kind. Happy. Generous. Amazing sense of humor." he says, turning his focus back on Skythix. He bursts out into laughter after a moment, "Those are definitely not words I'd use to describe her. She's a psychopath. Toughest, meanest, ass-kickingest-...." he squints

a bit as he wonders if that's actually a thing, "...person I've ever met. No matter how hard things got, she always persevered. She was one of a kind." He catches himself and clears his throat, "Is one of a kind."

Skythix brought her hand back and fiddled with the talon on her thumb with her other hand while listening to Jason. She was looking down at her hands and imagining if she had ever known anyone like that before. Her shoulders shook with a quiet laugh. "She sounds more like a soldier than a lover." She turned her head to expose a sullen look to her features. "I guess that's what makes

her so great though, huh? Almost sounds turian..." She muttered the last part mostly to herself. She suddenly wished she had kept drinking enough to just fall asleep to but her biotic metabolism wouldn't allow it unless she went at it heavily. "How'd you two meet?"

Jason gives a chuckle at the comparison to a turian, "Soldier through-and-through. Guess she had a soft spot for me, though. Can't really blame her, I'm fuckin' adorable." he jokes. He settles into place a bit as he considers her question. "I worked for her on a security job." he finally says, "Sparks were flying immediately'." he admits, furrowing his brow for a moment, "As a matter

of fact, I think she hit me during one of our first conversations." He lets out a loud laugh and gives a shake of his head, "I don't know. Most people probably thought we were just too different... I think we balanced each other out nicely." He stares across the room at the photo and his smile slowly begins to fade away, "She's gone."

Skythix was smiling along with the story as it unfolded. It was nice to hear such a lovely tale of two people coming together even if it was a rough beginning. However, the pause in his story was a point where should could almost physically feel the mood changing without even having to look at him. She turned her head slowly when he finished speaking, her mandibles drooped down in a

frown. "What do you mean 'gone'?" She was almost afraid to ask but just the way he said it made her guess that maybe she was missing and not her first thought of her untimely demise.

Jason raises his shoulders and lets them drop. "Gone." he repeats. "Guessing it's not exactly a secret that our last job didn't go so well.." he says before reaching across his chest to pat his damaged shoulder, "We lost a few of ours that day. Three more of us were seriously wounded, including myself. And Vasq-..." He pauses and goes quiet for a few moments, deciding how to proceed

with his story. Unsure of how much to divulge, he finally just nods, "She was taken. And as soon as I get this taken care of, I'm going to get her back." he says sternly, rubbing his hand up and down his shoulder.

Skythix bristled at hearing the fate of Vasquez. The fact that a fellow soldier was being held behind enemy lines and they weren't doing everything in their power to get them back made her sick to her stomach. Why in the spirits name were they drinking at a time like this? She turned fully to face him and planted her hands on either side of his sitting position on the table with a

slam. "I refuse to allow someone of my squad to be held behind enemy lines, least of all the mate of my leader." Her eyes burned with passion and determination. She returned to stand perfectly straight and rigid, her military persona taking over. "I don't care if it's credits, time, or power but if there is even a sliver of my potential that isn't being used to help rescue Vasquez at

this time then you can consider me wasted." She placed her hands behind her back and looked Jason dead in the eyes. "With all due respect sir if you don't utilize everything you have in your grasp then what's the point?" Maybe she was just pegging for a reaction at this point?

Jason leans back on his remaining hand as the turian turns to face him. Her reaction catches him a bit off-guard, though he can't help but smile at her determination... at least until the insinuation that he wasn't already doing everything he could. He furrows his brow and pushes off the table with his hand to stand toe-to-toe with the turian. "If you think for one moment that I'm

not doing everything I can to get her back, then you're out of your fucking mind." he says. His tone isn't aggressive, just... sad. Maybe even a bit hurt. He steps away from the turian, putting his back to her as he moves towards the desk once more, "I've reached out to every information broker I could make contact with. I took a loan from the wife of a dead friend just to keep

everything afloat. It's not as simple as picking up a gun and shooting a few motherfuckers. If it was, believe me, arm-or-no-arm, it would be done already." he sighs and rests his hand against the desk. "I've got a lead. I'm just waiting for the information to come through. Until then, I'm stuck here. Waiting." He glances back over his shoulder at the turian, "I don't even know if she's

alive..."

Skythix felt a little ashamed that she pressumed that he wasn't doing his best but the fact that she was only finding out about all of this now was clear that he still wasn't utilizing her. She remained at her height, not backing down from him but also no challenging him, just accepting. She returned to a casual stance to seem less threatening. "I might not be an information broker,

Wolfe, but I'm still more than a body to fire a gun. I'm sure you're doing everything you can but there has to be something I could be doing to help. I already feel like I'm not doing much and now that I know that there's so much more to be done... Well, I want a part of it. Yes, I'm turian. Yes, I'm primarily military but I didn't become a lieutenant for nothing. Give me things to

go on. Let me help." She practically begged him. She had been so antsy since she got to Aite since she felt like she no longer had a sense of direction. She reached out and grabbed both of his shoulders and held tightly. "She's alive, Jason. She has to be and we're going to get her back."

Jason lowers his gaze to the ground and shakes his head. "Skythix..." he says with a sigh, "If I told you the shit we've been through, you'd think I was a nutjob. Just-... please, trust that I'm doing everything that can be done and as soon as something comes from it that we can act on, we will." He reaches up and rubs at his forehead. "Please." he repeats, sounding somewhat defeated.

Skythix continued to hold onto his shoulders, eyes passing back and forth between his own. She could see the exhaustion and the strain on his body and spirit. Even if they had been to hell and back, you always looked after your own and until she was confirmed dead, Vasquez was still alive and waiting for them. She ended up pulling him close into an embrace. "We'll find her." She spoke

gently, her thin frame squeezing the human to hopefully resonate the spirit of the pact within him.

Jason stares distantly over the turian's shoulder. He reaches around her and gives her a soft pat on the back. "I-.... Thank you..." he says. He quickly breaks away from the embrace and wipes at his eyes, "I'm sorry... It's just been a long month... But before you just go and sign yourself up for this, you need to know what you're getting involved with. Ilyna is helping me run things

until we get Vasquez back, but she had to make a trip to the Citadel on some business. As soon as she gets back, we'll all have a sit down and fill you in." He lets out a deep sigh, "I hope you've got your tinfoil hat ready, though, because it's a doozy..."

Skythix placed a more gentle hand on the human's cheek when he wiped the tears from his eyes. "Don't be sorry. I'm sure you're stressed out beyond belief." She said softly, quickly taking her hand back. She shook her head minutely. "I was ready to lay down my life to protect the people who were a part of my family back on the ships. You're all just my new family and I have no intention

of seeing it come to harm. If you think you're going to drive me away with something crazy then you clearly don't know me very well." She said with a warm smile and a small chuckle. She walked past him and picked up the brandy bottle he had brought up for him. "I'll take this back down for you. Why don't you get some sleep and you can fill me in on all the details tomorrow?"

Jason remains in place and continues to stare off distantly. "Yeah... That sounds like a plan." he sighs. After a short pause, he glances over at the turian, "Really. Thank you." he says simply.

Skythix had a sad look to her face when Jason looked at her. She hated seeing someone hurt like that inside. Nevertheless, her frown slowly changed to a smile as she walked towards the door of his room. "Take care, Jason." She said quietly before turning around and heading out of the room.

Halisi sits alone in a booth in the Respite, pouring over paperwork, as is usually the case. She's taken to doing some of her work in the inn lately, perhaps to escape the stress of the hospital. The usual cup of coffee is placed amid paper documents and datapads. (Tyranniac)

Gregorij is seated in a dark corner booth, watching the muted news broadcast displayed on one of the Respite's screens. He's nursing a whiskey and looks even more unkempt than usual, his beard uneaven and his eyes weary. Anna, his disability mech, is with him, but her right arm hangs limp, apparently broken, and her lights flicker occasionally. (Tyranniac)
