Kanaya walks down the hallway, stopping by the door into the bar, looking out to check if Briggs is there. She is wearing a green tanktop and dark-blue jeans.

Steve is not by the bar.

Kanaya proceeds down the hallway and knocks on the door to the security office.

Steve taps the interface a few moments later, causing the door to slide open. "Oh, hey-..." he pauses for a moment, attempting to get the asari's name correct "...Kanaya, right? What can I do for ya?" (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya steps back as the door opens. "I just wanted to get away from the paperwork, and I said we were going to have a litte chat," she says. "Have you got time for that?"

Steve shrugs and glances back towards his terminal. "Absolutely." he says, taking a couple steps back and seating himself on the edge of his desk. He uses his boot to turn his chair around and slide it over in the direction of Kanaya. "Can't guarantee ya I'll have much to say that would interest ya, but I'll do the best that I can to answer any questions. Aylena didn't exactly keep me in the loop on things around here. I'm just security."

Kanaya follows into the room. "That makes two of us," she says with a sigh. "I had no clue she had set up shop out here until I was asked to come run this place." She stops the chair and sits down on it, looking over the office. "What kind of people do you deal with out here?"

Steve sets his hands down beside him, palms flat against the desk. "All kinds, I suppose. We don't get too much trouble. Freedom Falls is pretty quiet compared to the rest of this planet. But you get a lot of seedier types. Lot of folks head out this way runnin' from trouble of some sort." he nods, "So... What's your relation to Aylena?" he asks, unable to recall if it was ever mentioned, "Couldn't help but notice the last name

Kanaya nods. "I see," she says. "And she's my mother. I haven't talked with her all that much in the last... ten years or so, and I didn't hear a single peep for a year before now."

Steve eyes widen a bit. "Mother? Oh-... I was assumin' sister... Something like that. Not that it's any of my business." he adds with a shrug, "So any idea how long you'll be runnin' this show for?" (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya laughs. "I don't know if you're flattering her, or vice versa," she jokes, then shakes her head. "And nope, I didn't have a chance to ask questions."

Steve gives a quick chuckle. "That's a shame." He leans forward a bit, furrowing his brow, "Do you have any idea what this is even all about?" he asks, seeming genuinely curious, "Would be nice to know what's goin' on with her. 'Specially if there's any chance that it could bring trouble back to the Respite." (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya thinks for a moment. "I don't, but it's apparently severe enough to not reach out to me directly," she says. "I'll keep you guys informed if I get word from her that concerns security, or when she returns."

Steve nods a few times, "That's all I ask. Anything I should keep an eye out for, or anything like that." he nods once more, "Now, like I said before, the agency sometimes sends out someone to cover for me when they've got me on assignment. I've got a gig comin' up sometime soon, so I cant' guarantee you how much longer I'll be around for. But someone will be here to cover for me." (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya nods. "I'll trust that whoever that is will tell you if something interesting happens, then," she says. "I can count on that, right?"

Steve gives a nod, despite not even knowing who will be filling in. "Absolutely. I'm sure they'll bring me up to date as soon as I get back." (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya | "What's the name of the agency?" she asks. "I haven't had to time to look through any paperwork that doesn't need a response yet."

Steve furrows his brow. "Oh... Right." he says, clearing his throat, "Redrock Agency. We've got an office out at the northwestern edge of town. It's undergoing repairs right now, but a few of our people are stayin' here. Including the head honcho, Wolfe." he informs the asari, "Guessin' he could prolly answer any questions." (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya nods. "Thanks," she says. "I'll pay him a visit when I've gotten the paperwork under control, then. I'm probably going to bother Ennik to do the rest of it tonight." A soft laugh follows.

Steve chuckles along with her, his demeanor seems to have eased up a bit. "That your assistant?" he asks. (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya shakes her head. "He's family," she says. "I've barely been out of asari space, except for the Citadel, so I knew I couldn't come all the way out here alone." She raises her brows for a moment, and adds, "No offense intended."

Steve brings his hands up, palms towards the asari. "None taken." he says with a smirk, "It's smart. Things can get rough out here. Best to have a way to protect yourself, too. You might wanna consider pickin' up a firearm if ya haven't already." (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya nods. "I'll keep that in mind," she says. "Is there anywhere in town to practice with one? It's a very long time since i even touched a gun."

Steve puffs out his cheeks and lets out a deep breath, a crease in his brow as he thinks on the question. "Militia has a shootin' range, I think." he offers. "Hell, if that ain't your thing, you could prolly just head outside of town and set up a few targets on your own. Ain't nothin' around." (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya frowns. "That sounds like a dangerous misunderstanding just waiting to happen," she says. "I think I'll check out the militia's place."

Steve gives a shrug. "Ain't ever been there myself. Can't vouch for the quality. There's a few places in town to pick up some simple hardware, though. Nothin' too extravagant. I can send ya the addresses it ya want." (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya smiles. "I'd appreciate that," she says. "I'm curious, though, where do you and your Redrock Agency buddies practice?"

Steve chuckles and shakes his head. "We don't." he admits, "Supposedly that's gonna be changin' soon. But so far, it's more of a 'handle your own trainin' on your own time' sorta operation. Guess he expects us to keep ourselves sharp on our own dime." (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya chuckles. "And I'm guessing you're all diligently doing just that?" she asks, not sounding too serious.

Steve straightens up and rolls his shoulders. He reaches over with his left hand to squeeze his right bicep. "Oh, yeah! You know it." he says with an adamant nod. After a moment, his posture relaxes and he looks over at the asari with a chuckle. "Fuck no." he admits. (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya smirks. "I'm not going to tell your boss, promise," she says. "My extended family has a lot of military, though, so you might want to keep quiet about it if mom sends another clueless relative to run this show."

Steve smirks and gives a nod of his head. "Rest assured, trainin' or not, I'm at the top of my game. You folks are in good hands here. Honest." (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya nods. "I'll trust you guys," she says. "Mom is usually very picky when hiring people."

Steve allows a quick snort to escape. 'A handful of inept mercs. A bartender that cries if the wind blows the wrong way. Yep, really picky.' he thinks to himself, but bites his tongue. "Works for me." he says plainly. (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya raises an eyebrow. "You don't get along with the staff here?" she asks, considering his reaction.

Steve leans back slightly, folding his arms across his chest. "Me?" he asks, biding for time, "Naw, I get along fine with 'em. They're a good bunch. No issues so far." (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya nods, not entirely believing it. "That's good," she says, and stands up. "I don't think I should steal anymore of your time if you're supposed to be keeping me safe." She grins and pushes the chair towards the desk. "I know it's early to say," she says, "but I think I'll like it here."

Steve stops the chair from rolling too far by putting his boot out in front of it. "Welcome to Freedom Falls." he says with a grin before giving a polite nod to Kanata. (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya nods. "Thanks," she says. "Take care." She walks over to the door and opens it.

Steve follows the asari to the door. "Not a problem." he says, closing the door once she's exited the room. He lets out a bit of a sigh and returns to his desk. (Jason_Wolfe)

Kanaya returns to her own office, and gets back to work.
