#Hospital – September 6, 2015
Leah is stood just outside of Halisi's office. She's cleaned herself up somewhat in the washroom since 'taking care of business', but her eyes are quite puffy and it's clear that she's been doing a lot of crying. Her face is devoid of any makeup between crying and cleaning herself up as best as she could. Her entire posture is different. Her usual confidence and demeanor are replaced with
Halisi enters the hospital in a rush, taking a quick look around the waiting room before heading towards her office. She slows down upon noticing Leah. "Where have you been?!"
Leah slowly shakes her head, but doesn't even bother raising her head to look Halisi in the eyes. "He said-... He said you were keeping him here against his will. He told me not to trust you..." she says sadly. The past couple hours have been spent going over her story. Piecing it together. It's sloppy, but she's in far too low of a spot to particularly care. Her voice comes out softly,
barely above a whisper, "I knew it was ridiculous. I just thought if maybe-..." she slumps her shoulders, "...maybe I 'helped' him... I could talk him down. Help him realize this was all in his head..."
Halisi blinks. "What?! What did-... you took him out of here? Where-..." She stops herself as she starts to notice just how broken up Leah seems to be. Her eyes widen. "What happened?"
Leah brings one hand up to her forehead, raising her other to try and stop Halisi from speaking. "Everything was fine at first... He was ranting and raving about you, but-... He was calm. When he started talking about getting out of here-..." she pauses to elaborate, "...Out of Freedom Falls. Off Aite. I tried to talk him down. I-... Maybe I came on too strong. I tried to get him to
understand that it wasn't real. Whatever he was thinking, it was just in his head-..." she begins to break again as tears run down her face. She stops speaking and quickly attempts to collect herself. After a few moments she continues, "He attacked me, Halisi. I tried to stop him, but I didn't want to hurt him. When I tried to restrain him with my biotics, he overloaded my implant and ran.
I-..." she clenches her eyes shut, leaning back heavily against the wall, "...I don't know where he is."
Halisi practically shouts "What?! He-... he ran off?! Damn it! We-... we have to find him before he gets off-world! He's not stable!"
Leah slowly shakes her head. "I went to the spaceport. I looked for him, Halisi... He's smart. He knows what he's doing. Do you really think we have a chance at finding him...?" she asks, a sob escaping, "I'm afraid we won't be able to find him unless he wants to be found..."
Halisi slams her fist against the wall, letting out an uncharacteristic cry of frustration. "Fuck! ...why? I told you he needed to stay here. Why did you-..." Her shoulders drop with a heavy sigh. "You were trying to help. Like me..."
Leah lowers her gaze to the floor silently and wipes at her cheek with the palm of her hand. The outburst doesn't even startle her. She's borderline catatonic at this point. "I just wanted him to be okay. I never wanted any of this to happen-..." she says, just as much to herself as to Halisi.
Halisi puts a hand to her own mouth, staring off down the corridor in thought. "I can't believe this... I knew he wasn't well, but... I didn't think... maybe he'll come to his senses. Come back."
Halisi seems about to ask say something when she glances at Leah. She stops herself and looks closer at her. "Leah, I... I'm so sorry. I know you were close. That... you didn't expect him to just run away. To... attack." She tries to put a hand on the woman's shoulder.
Leah flinches at the woman's touch. "I'll be okay." she says with a small nod, "I just-..." She finally raises her head and makes eye contact with Halisi. She gives a shrug as she blinks away a few more tears, "I know it probably sounds stupid to you, but I don't have many friends. He's important to me, Halisi." she says, nearly stuttering into a 'was important'. "I don't want to lose
Halisi is quite clearly affected by Leah's pain, a saddened frown forming as she studies the woman. "I-... I didn't realize he's... that important to you." She sighs. "He's unstable. Dangerous even. It's not on you. If he doesn't want our help we can't force it on him..." She hesitates for a moment before gently trying to pull Leah into a soft hug.
Leah allows herself to be pulled into the hug, but she doesn't return the gesture. She merely stares over the woman's shoulder. "I'm sorry..." she mutters.
Halisi keeps the hug for a while, stroking Leah's back in an attempt to comfort her. "You did what you could... you tried to help. He... just didn't want any help." She lets go off the hug, keeping both hands on Leah's shoulders. "And you don't have to be without friends here, alright?" She tries to force a smile, but it doesn't manifest, leaving only concerned silver eyes observing her.
Leah nods along as Halisi speaks, her movements barely noticeable. "Thank you, but I think I just want to be alone right now..." she admits, tilting her head apologetically.
Halisi nods in return, letting go of Leah with another worried look. "Al-.. alright. But... if you want to talk, send me a message, alright? You're not alone. And... I'll talk to some people, see if I can find anything out about where he went."
Leah quickly begins to stomp off down the hallway as soon as Halisi has said her piece, barely responsive towards the woman aside from a few more short nods.
Halisi belatedly reaches out as if to stop Leah, clearly not feeling like her words got through. She sighs, glancing at her one more time before she disappears into the waiting room. The doctor looks up at the ceiling running a hand through her hair in thought, face still fraught with concern over both Leah and Damien. She eventually steps into her office.
