Va'ynna is standing behind the bar this early afternoon, being too nice to say no when Kanaya asked for her to take over for a moment.

Jackie pokes her head in the front door to the establishment. From the guide of the town she'd read on the extranet, this place was a bar and hotel. Though, it was anyone's guess if those guides were still accurate. It sounded and smelled enough like a bar, however. She listened carefully for any nearby voices, her dog patiently sitting next to her, attatched to

a leash on a harness. Jackie herself was dressed in a leather jacket, jeans and a t-shirt, very simple clothing. She didn't go inside yet because she wasn't sure of the bar's policy on pets. She figured it would be best to wait for a nearby voice she could get the attention of before making a decision. "Excuse me," She says, hearing someone nearby. "Do you

know this place's policy on pets?" She asks the disembodied voice she believed had stopped to regard her. She gestures to her dog at her side. "Just want to know if Tracer should be tied up outside or not."

Mendez stomps his way towards the Respite, not paying the woman outside much mind until she begins to address him as he reaches for the door. He's dressed in a pair of grey jogging pants, white running shoes, and a tight long-sleeved white shirt that's practically plastered to him from the sweat of his daily jog. He glances over the woman and her dog, his eyes resting on the latter.

"No idea. Might wanna go inside and ask." he grunts as he taps the interface and politely stands aside so the woman can enter, "Probably not a good idea to leave a dog out here alone either way."

Jackie nods politely, not quite focusing on the person speaking. "Thanks." She reaches out to find a pole, before tying up the dog's leash, leaning down to pet the dog, quietly reassuring it she'll be back. Her omni tool lights up as she steps inside without the dog, and she holds it out in front of her as she walks, seeming fairly sure footed. She finds the bar

, taking a seat and speaking in the direction of the voice behind the counter. "Hello, I have my dog tied up outside, but for future reference, does this bar allow pets?" She chuckles softly. "She kinda gets depressed when I leave her outside."

Mendez studies the woman's strange behavior, taking a few moments before he's able to put two-and-two together. Once she ties up her dog and heads inside, he begins to follow her in. He casts a quick glance back over his shoulder at the dog and gives a roll of his eyes. He can't leave the little shit out here alone. He mutters under his breath and steps back outside. Folding his arms

across his chest, he leans against the doorframe, hoping the woman will quickly get the information she's looking for. He stares the dog down, a scowl etched into his face.

Va'ynna raises an eyebrow at first as she's usually not talked to directly unless by someone she knew. She walks over to her, offering a small smile (oblivious to the fact that won't communicate). "I... don't think we have allowed that before," she says, "but... we've only had... one person bring their pet in, and... that was a dangerous animal." Va'ynna is prone to second-guessing her words, mostly in beginnings of sentences and clauses.

Jackie chuckles, unaware of the fact that Tracer is now locked in an epic scowl-off with a man outside. "Oh, no no, she won't hurt anyone who isn't giving me trouble. She's a sweetheart, promise." She nods with a smile. "But, it's your call, you work here after all."

Mendez taps his foot and leans over to glance through the door with a loud sigh as he spots the woman sitting on a stool. "If she doesn't hurry back, you're on your own." he says, scooting slightly closer to the dog. He reaches out idly and pats the dog on the head.

Va'ynna hums thoughtfully, looking towards the exit. "What is she like?" she asks. "I mean, is she... quiet and thought of as harmless by... other people?"

Jackie nods with a smile. "Oh absolutely. She's a guide dog, so she's predictable and obedient. She'll just sit at my feet the whole time I'm here." Tracer stares up at the human attempting to pet her. She reluctantly accepts the pets, staring warily up at him the entire time.

Mendez frowns as he scratches the dog behind the ears. "How the hell did you find your way all the way out here?" he asks aloud, "Who brings a dog to the Terminus Systems? And why wo-...." he slowly trails off, scoffing loudly, "And now I'm talking to a fucking dog..."

Va'ynna nods. "I... suppose that's fine, if she's... guiding you," she says with a tilted head, too polite to ask the obvious question. "The bar is... usually quiet around this time, but... you should be careful with her if you come here in the evening."

Jackie smiles and nods. "I will, thanks." She stands up and makes her way out to the exit, this time not needing the help of her omni tool, simply tracing her fingers along tables as she goes. When she gets outside Tracer barks at her, apperantly bored of her current conversation. "Yeah yeah." She says, rolling her eyes. "You can come in with me." She starts

untying the dog's leash, ventually noticing the presance of someone else on the street. "Oh, hello," She says, taking up the leash and turning her attention to the other person. "Were you looking after her? It's not really nessicary, she's capable and knows to bark for me if anything goes wrong." She smiles softly. "Though it was kind of you. Can I get you a

drink to say thank you?"

Mendez furrows his brow. "Wha-... no! I wasn't-..." he stammers, reaching back to scratch the back of his neck. Caught. "Just-... Had a dog like this when I was a kid." he says with a nod. "Well. Different color." he adds as he studies the dog. "...And breed..." he shrugs, "And-... Okay, it was nothing like her. Suppose I just hadn't realized how long it's been since I've seen a dog.

Wild." He leans down and gives the dog a quick set of scratches under the chin before standing up straight once more, "I'll take you up on that drink."

Va'ynna looks at her curiously while leaving, waiting for her to bring whatever she just let someone bring inside without checking with her employer.

Jackie chuckles. "Yeah, dogs really aren't common outside of human settlements." She gently pats the husky on the head. "Luckily Tracer's a born explorer." She steps back into the bar, letting Tracer lead the way. She takes a seat, the dog, as she had promised, curling up next to her feet. "I'll take a beer. Not fussed about what kind, just whatever you have

that's not expensive and won't kill me. And ah..." She looks back in the direction of the approaching footsteps. "What's your poison?"

Mendez follows the woman inside. Once they reach the bar, he gives the dog another pat, a tiny smirk tugging at his lips as he lifts himself onto a stool. "Beer is fine. Whatever." he grunts.

Va'ynna looks at the dog with a sigh of relief while they're entering, happy that it was more adorable than dangerous looking. "We have that," she says with a nod, finding two glasses and walks over to the tap nearby. "Any preferences on type of beer? Like,... light beer?"

Jackie shrugs. "Dunno, guess heavy as opposed to light." She turns to her new drinking companion, her eyes still not focusing on anything. "Jackie, by the way, Jackie Grey. Good to meet you." She smiles, holding a hand out in his general direction for him to shake. "I'm pretty new round town. I'll get my bearings soon enough."

Va'ynna begins pouring the first glass of beer. "I'm Va'ynna," she says with a smile. "It's... nice to meet you too."

Mendez reaches out and grasps the woman's hand, giving it a firm shake and quickly releasing. "Mendez." he says plainly before glancing towards Va'ynna, "Whatever you've got on tap. Really, I don't care." He leans his elbows on the counter and leans forward a bit as he refocuses his attention back on his new aquantance. "You sure this is the right place for you?" he asks, looking her

over, "On account of your-... condition...?" He does his best not to sound offensive, but he's not exactly the cuddliest of teddy bears, so it most likely comes out sounding a bit insensitive.

Jackie nods to the bartender. "Hi Va'yenna, sorry, didn't mean to ignore you over there." She says with a smile. "Pleasure." She turns her head back at the human, mentally filing his voice away with his name. "Heh, well yeah, but there aren't really a lot of places in the galaxy that treat blind folk all that well." She says with a grin, clearly not bothered by

Mendez's... less than PC language. "Certainly not where I'm from. Blind orphans in big cities on earth don't really get happy childhoods. At least this place isn't as loud as the city."

Va'ynna nods, and simply pours a second glass of the same kind of beer. She walks over to them and puts a glass before each one of Mendez first and then her. "It's no... problem," she says. "Oh, I... didn't know you were blind." She taps the side of her glass with the back of her index finger. "I... put the glass here."

Mendez gives a grunt of affirmation. "So you just packed up your dog and boarded the next ship out to the Terminus?" he asks, "...Why? What can you get out here that you couldn't on Earth? Aside from 'shot'?" He reaches out and pulls his beer closer before taking a sip.

Jackie grimaces slightly at the asari's assistance. "Thanks. I heard it when you put it down." She says, a slight bit of edge in her voice. Her hand slides along the bar until it finds the glass, bringing it to her lips to drink it. "You can get shot just fine on Earth." She retorts simply. "Besides, I figure, if I'm a little out of the ordinary, I'd rather be

somewhere where people have already dealt with unordinary things." She sips her beer, purring at the taste. "Besides, figured it was time for a change of view, huh?" She asks, chuckling a little at her own joke.

Va'ynna frowns. "I'm... sorry," she says, looking a little bit embarrased, and takes a step back.

Mendez frowns, "But you can't see." he says, "The view is irrelev-..." He rolls his eyes as it dawns on him that she was obviously joking. "Just-... be carefuly." he offers, "People may not find you 'out of the ordinary' out here. But they won't hesitate to take advantage of your condition. Cruel as it may sound, it's just the way of things for most people out here. They won't see a

friendly woman with a cute dog. They'll see an opportunity."

Jackie frowns a little at the asari's response. "Sorry, didn't mean to snap at you. Thanks for the beer." She says. She chuckles a little at the human's concern. "Wow. You remind me exactly of a friend back in Cape Town." She says with a grin. "And don't worry, I'm not a friendly woman with a cute dog. I'm a smart woman with a guard dog." Her omni tool buzzes, a

with a few quick taps a message speaks into her ear. "Ah, sorry to cut this short, but I gotta run." She downs the last half of her beer before setting a credit chit on the bar. "Enjoy your beer Mendez, good meeting you both." She says, before letting her dog lead her out of the bar.

Mendez puts his hands up. "Bu-..." He grunts and rotates on his stool to study the woman as she leaves, worried she may very well just walk into a wall on her way out. "Be careful!" he calls out, "Remember what I said!"

Va'ynna tilts her head at her sudden departure, and takes the credit chit.. "See you," she manages to say before she's out of earshot.

Mendez turns back around and looks over his glass. After a few moments, he seems to come to a decision and nods to himself. "Free beer is good beer."

Va'ynna looks at the man, seeming a little intimidated. "Are you... going off world with... the agency soon, too?" she asks.

Mendez raises an eyebrow and straightens up on the stool a bit. He gives a shake of his head. "I don't believe so, no. Although it could be a last minute decision. I don't bother asking too many questions. If they need me, they'll let me know."

Va'ynna nods. "I... was just curious," she says. "Almost... everyone I know are going, and I worry that... Jason won't be at his best with his... new arms."

Mendez brings his glass to his lips once more before setting it back down on the counter. "Jason knows what he's capable of. If he says he's good to go, all we can do is trust that he's good to go."

That... won't stop me from worrying about him, and... his team.

Va'ynna fidgets a bit. "I... know he's working on getting... adjusted to his new arms, though."

Mendez frowns a bit as he studies the bartender. "What's your deal?" he asks before elaborating, "You good friends with him or something? Seem awfully concerned for him to just be a customer."

He's... a good friend, yes. I've known him since... the day after I arrived.

Mendez gives a slow nod. "Suppose that makes more sense, then." he says taking another long sip of his drink. He gives a glance back at the door momentarily, "Suppose I should probably get back out there. Was only planning on grabbing a glass of water and then getting back to my routine, but you can't pass up free beer."

Va'ynna nods. "Mhm," she says. "I... don't ptend to pass up free drinks, either, unless... I'm working."

Mendez lifts his glass one more time and tilts it back, slugging the last half of the drink. He lets out a deep breath as he sets the glass back down and uses the sleeve of his shirt to wipe his mouth. "Cute dog." he mutters.

Yes, she... is. I... don't think I've seen that... kind of animal before. How... dangerous are they?

Mendez puts his hand up, holding it open in front of his face, palm towards the counter, and tilts it back and forth. "Eh... Depends. Breed. How they're raised. Individual personalities. It varies from dog to dog. That one seemed friendly enough."

Va'ynna nods. "I'll... need to talk to Kanaya about that," she says. "I don't think we have... a policy for guide animals." She pauses, fidgeting a bit with her hands. "I... don't want... the krogan that comes here sometimes to think it's okay to bring his... varren. That one looks... anything but friendly."

Mendez gives a snort as he stands from his stool. "Dogs? Alright. Varren? Not so much." he says, sliding his hand across the counter to push the glass back towards Va'ynna. "I'm gonna get back to my jog." he says with a nod towards the exit, "Take care."

Va'ynna takes the glass with a nod. "You take care, too," she says with a tiny smile before taking the other glass and moving them to a tray below the counter.

Mendez stomps off towards the exit, stopping just outside to have a quick stretch before heading off on his way in a jog.

Va'ynna remains behind the bar for another fifteen minutes before Kanaya comes back to take over. After a short chat about the dog, she makes her way upstairs.
