#RedrockAgency – February 26, 2016
Ilyna is sitting at the reception's desk, waiting for the new applicant to show up. She is reading something off of her omni-tool. She did bring Li with her to work despite starting early, and she has left her in the rec room for the duration of the interview. The asari is wearing her usual dark-gray casual dress.
Nathan pulls up on the outside of the agency's building on a rented motorbike. Now, what with this being a mercenary company (sorry, "PMC"), he thought it would be prudent to turn up in his gear and weaponry rather than formal wear. It would show that he isn't half-arsed about this. He hops off and deactivates the bike, letting out a low whistle as he examines the
building. " Nice digs," he comments as he walks into the lobby, glancing around. He reaches up and takes off his helm, smiling over to the asari behind the desk. "Hi there! I'm Nathan Tennhausen, here for an interview?"
Ilyna stands up once she sees someone enter, and returns the smile once he introduces himself. She walks over to him. "I'll be having the interview with you," she says, extending her hand. "I'm Ilyna T'Rea."
Ilyna let's go of his hand. "The pleasure is mine," she says. "My office is just down this hallway, we can talk there." She starts walking down the hallway without checking whether he'll follow
Nathan naturally follows. What else could he do. He curiously looks around, trying to peer into any open doorways and take a look of the building.
Ilyna nods. "Yeah, it's very new," she says. "I moved into my office here not too many days ago." She reaches the office door and hits the interface. It opens to a sparsely furnished corner office with two windows. There is a desk with a terminal ontop, and a datapad. There are two chairs in the room, although both of them are currently behind the desk.
Ilyna walks over to the desk and grabs one of the office chair and adjusts it a little lower. "I haven't had the time to personalize it," she says, before pushing the chair to the side of the desk across from hers. "Take a seat," she says with a glance towards him before moving over to her side of the desk to sit down. The datapad is displaying Nathan's application.
Nathan pulls up the chair and flops into it. He places his helmet on his lap and smiles politely, focusing his full attention on Ilyna.
Ilyna nods, and glances at the datapad. "What can you tell me about where you received your formal training?" she says, focusing on him. "Sandbeck Enforcement Agency, I mean."
Nathan hums and taps the top of his helmet. "Sandbeck was only a small agency, about two hundred people or so, but it was well funded," he explains. "Tanks, gunships, plenty of access to weapons... It was a dream job." He pauses and smiles. "Even had a frigate or two. Every recruit that walked through their door, they wanted trained up to their standards. If you
didn't meet their requirements...". He makes a short sharp whistle and jabs a thumb over his shoulder. "Out you go."
Ilyna raises a brow. "I wouldn't call that small," she says, "but I suppose if they have frigates, they're operating at a very different scale." She nods and casts another glance at the datapad. "I would trust that kind of qualifications. though."
Nathan cants his head. "You wouldn't?" He asks referring to her former statement. "In comparison to the major mercenary companies, that is small. Historically speaking, major PMC's on Earth used to number in the thousands. For example, Pinkerto-" he pauses and coughs, smiling sheepishly. "Uh... Sorry. Rambling. Um, next question?"
Ilyna chuckles. "I suppose it's a matter of perspective," she says before moving on. "Okay, next question.... How would you describe your experience with explosives?"
Nathan grins. "Enlightening." He taps the grenades on his person. "Whilst with Sandbeck, I found how attuned I was to explosive ordnance. I was trained in various ways on using it and even designing my own variations. Breaching, large scale demolition, controlled detonations... You name it, I likely know it." He pauses. "Course, not all situations require
Ilyna nods. "That does sound useful," she says. "Breaching, I mean. I don't think we've had any jobs where leveling an entire building with the ground has been necessary." She pauses for a moment before asking, "Would you be able to instruct another person in using your breaching ordinances in the event a job objective would split the team up?"
Ilyna gives a small smile before nodding again. "You said you design your own explosives," she begins. "What facilities do you use for manufactoring them?"
I think used is the more apt term. Sandbeck had workstations and facilities that allowed for safe testing and experimentation... Suppose that's one of the same actually. Hmm. Anyways, I haven't done any designing for years now.
Ilyna hums thoughtfully. "I understand," she says. "I think there's only technical skills left to discuss, then." She pauses for a brief moment, followed by asking, "Is what's in your application the extent of it, or are you familiar with other areas of tech useful in the field?"
Nathan nods. "As I mentioned, I've been taught some basic electronics skills. Hacking mostly. If need be, I can use a simple overload or sabotage an enemy's weapon." He shrugs lightly. "Though I'll admit I didn't specialise in it or further my understanding of it." He pauses before continuing. "However, I did mention I was trained how to command a tank. And I also
Ilyna nods. "That's fair," she says. "We don't expect that any one of us is able to handle every situation alone." She looks at the datapad again, skimming it from top to bottom to ensure that she hasn't forgotten anything that needs elaboration. "Do you have any questions?" she then asks. "I assume you'd like to know a few things about the agency."
Nathan nods, smiling. "Sure. How long has Redrock been operating? And I take it that the team is professional?"
Ilyna nods. "The agency has been around for almost a year now," she says. "And yes, our team consists of people with a military or mercenary background. While that is unverifiable, they have proven themselves capable in the field."
Nathan nods. "And now for what I'm guessing is the most commonly asked question. Is the pay decent? Is it by mission rates or a regular payment?"
Ilyna hums. "My numbers may not be up to date," she says, "but we do guarantee a six thousand minimum per month if you are not deployed on a mission that pays more than that."
Nathan blinks. "Not bad," he says with an appreciative nod. "How well kitted out is this place? I take it that it has an armoury and workshop to tinker around in?"
