#Passenger – April 22, 2016
Korio is sitting atop his bunk in his undersuit. He casts a glance upward at the announcement and nods softly to himself. "That is good news, indeed."
Victoria 's voice can be heard over the speakers all throughout the ship: "The RSV Saint Lucia is now departing. All injured passengers are to report to the medbay for treatment. Healthy passengers should return to their quarters until we have entered FTL." A moment later there the muffled roar of the ship thrusters starting can be heard, and the entire ship starts to shake as it behins to ascend up into the atmosphere.
Jason is seated in the passenger's quarters, atop his bed with his back to the wall. Now out of his armor, he's back in black fatigues and a white shirt.
Most of the research team are in their beds sleeping, although most of those that weren't part of the away team are in the lab, performing initial studies of their findings.
Jason has a datapad beside him on the bed, but he's just staring right through it. Unable to focus, he just decides to shut it off and toss it aside with a sigh.
Harmonia enters the passenger quarters with a tired look on her face, heading straight for her bed and lying down on her back with a heavy sigh.
Jason passes a glance to Harmonia as she makes her arrival. He considers flipping her off and rubbing the fact that Redrock kept her crew alive in her face. He opens his mouth, his lips doing everything in their power to form the word 'Biiiitch'. But, much to his own dismay, all that comes out is, "How are you holding up?"
Harmonia sits up with a groan. "Me? I'm fine... lots of work clearing up the camp. Shame we had to leave a lot of stuff behind, but... should be worth it in the end." she says with a shrug. "From what I hear you had it worse though." She leans forward, still seated on the edge of the bed, and extends a hand to Jason with a serious look on her face. "Thanks for bringing everyone back safe. I wasn't sure about your team, and
Tarkus continues taking off his armor plating, the pieces that had been taken off have been thrown to his side on the bed.
Jason gives a lopsided grin as he reaches out to accept Harmonia's handshake. "Don't mention it. My team might not look like much-..." he pointedly passes a glance back towards Tarkus and winks at him, "...But they're good at what they do." He pulls his hand back and looks towards the woman once more. "I shouldn't have lost my temper with you back there. I was frustrated, the conditions
weren't exactly favorable, and-..." he shrugs, "...Well, I'm sorry. I'm glad everything worked out."
Harmonia nods as she pulls her own hand back. "So am I. I worked with your boss once, you know. Figured she'd be on this mission, actually... she was calling up a bunch of people in the company before takeoff, asking question. Last experience with the company wasn't very good, was it?"
Tarkus was now waiting for Harmonia to move before he throw an armor plate at Jason, but since she did not move he kept it at the ready.
Jason gives a smirk at the mention of Vasquez, although it quickly fades once she moves on to the Evening Star. "...No. It wasn't." he says grimly followed by a sigh, "That was how we met, actually. I was a part of the security team..." He trails off before giving a shake of his head and forcing his smile back into place, "She had some things come up. Had to back out at the last minute,
Harmonia raises an eyebrow. "Hm. Well, I'll be passing on the word that Redrock did a solid job under difficult conditions. ExoGeni values external contractors for riskier ventures, although I'll admit it's because of Syranis' recommendation that you were brought on for this job. She seemed very confident in your team's abilities..."
Jason doesn't particularly brighten at the possibility of handling more ExoGeni work, but he remains polite, giving a nod and a smile at the information. "We appreciate it." he says, shifting back into his previous spot against the wall, "So... You said you worked with Li-... Vasquez before? How'd you two get along?"
Harmonia nods, moving back further into her bunk so that she can lean against the wall. "Yeah. Well, I'd say. She was a professional. It was only for a few jobs though."
Jason gives a quick snicker and nods his head. "Yeah... That's one way to put it... She's one of the best soldiers I've ever met, that's for sure. There's nobody else I'd rather be working with." He lets out a sigh, looking to change the subject before he gets too gushy, "So, Syranis recommended us, you said? Huh. Can't say we've had much interaction with her or her people..."
Yan Sun enters the passenger quarters with a distracted look on her face. Her gaze is on the floor as she heads to her bunk and she ends up walking right into Tarkus' legs, stumbling back as she swats at them. "去死!"
Harmonia raises an eyebrow. "...really? Hmh. That's-..." she glances over at Yan Sun as she hears the cursing.
Tarkus could not move his legs away in time to have Yan Sun miss them. As she swats at his legs "Sorry about that, did not mean to be in the way."
Yan Sun shoots Tarkus an apologetic look. "Sorry." she mumbles before climbing up into her bunk, laying down with a sigh and staring up at the ceiling.
Harmonia seems confused by Jason's nickname, but doesn't mention it. "I'm surprised to hear you say that... the Matriarch was quite adamant that your team be used for this expedition."
Jason gives a couple of shrugs. "I'm happy to hear that... But I couldn't tell ya why. We've handled a bit of trouble around town back home, so maybe that's why." he muses aloud, "She knows we get shit done."
Harmonia studies Jason for a moment with furrowed eyebrows, but eventually gives a light shrug as she climbs out of the bunk. "Maybe." she says before heading over to her locker, starting to remove her researcher's uniform.
Jason seems satisfied enough by that answer, giving another shrug before settling back against the wall. He contemplates reaching for his datapad again, but decides against it.
Harmonia returns to bed once she's down to her undergarments, climbing in with a yawn and falling asleep almost immediately after pulling up the blanket. It doesn't take long for her usual snoring to begin.
Yan Sun 's eye lights up as she continues to look up above, her gaze clearly focused on whatever she's browsing through via her ocular interface.
Jessica eventually returns to the passenger's quarters after finishing her meal. As she steps inside, her eyes instantly snap to Harmonia and her snoring. "Oh. If I snore, you kick me. But it's okay for-..." She trails off, a frown crossing her face. She stomps over to Harmonia's bunk, grabs her covers and yanks them off before rolling them into a ball and tossing them across the room. "You are the one who is snoring now.
Stop it." she says, leaning right over Harmonia. She doesn't bother sticking around. She quickly starts off towards her locker.
Yan Sun is still staring into the ceiling, or rather past it as she continues to look at something unseen. Sleep doesn't come as easy as she had expected when they first arrived back at the ship. Her focus is interrupted temporarily as she hears Jessica, and she listens for a while for more speech, her eyes not moving.
Jessica seems quite disappointed by the fact that Harmonia didn't wake up. She begins to get ready for sleep, putting her hat and pants into her locker and quickly changing into a pair of sweatpants to sleep in, not wanting to remain undressed in front of anyone for any longer than required. She kicks her shoes up against her locker and makes her way over to Yan Sun's bunk. "Scoot your ass, kitty cat. I'm coming up." she
Yan Sun seems surprised as Jessica starts to climb into the bunk, but she obliges and scoots over, blinking away the light in her eye and glancing briefly to the side to look as she comes up.
Jessica lifts the blanket and slips underneath it, kicking at it a bit to get settled. "For days I froze my ass off on that snowball, No more. Figure I'll be nice and let you keep me warm tonight." she shrugs, settling onto Yan Sun's pillow.
Yan Sun looks uncertain at first, seeming like she's going to say something, but her expression quickly softens. She turns over to her side and wraps her left arm around Jessica, scooting in closer without saying anything.
Jessica stares away from Yan Sun, keeping her voice low as to not disturb anyone else. "What was that about, kitty cat?" she whispers eventually, "Your strange.... run off without so much as a 'goodbye'? Mmmm? It was-.... weird."
Yan Sun buries her face in the side of Jessica's neck, just lying next to her in silence for a while as she contemplates her answer. After a little while she says "Nothing..." with a quiet sigh. After a moment's hesitation she adds: "...you... figured out where you're going yet?"
Jessica shrugs her shoulders, leaning back into Yan Sun. "No..." she says simply, "...Any place is better than Aite, though." She slides a hand up under the pillow and settles against it, "I can worry about that once I'm back home. Mmmm?" She allows the silence to take over once more, but after a short pause, returns right back to it. "It didn't seem like nothing..." she mutters, "...Just saying."
Yan Sun seems content to spoon Jessica in silence, reaching for her hand with the arm she has wrapped around her. At the final comment she lets out another sigh, moving her head back a bit and staring at the back of Jessica's head in the dark. "I care about you." she says quietly. "Whether you want me to or not..."
Jessica lets out a low snicker. "You think you care about me, kitty cat..." she corrects, "...But you hardly know me. Trust me, if you got to know me, you wouldn't like me very much." She doesn't seem particularly bothered by that thought. She interlocks her fingers with Yan Sun's. "I like you. But we're on a fucking ship out in the middle of space... How could I not like you right now, yes? I'm sure if we
returned to Aite and spent another week or two around one another, I'd want you to drop dead, and you would try to get faaaaar away from me." she says with another chuckle, slicing her free hand through the air as she finishes her sentence..
Yan Sun withdraws her hand from Jessica's, an uncomfortable look crossing her face as she continues to stare at her neck. "My bad..." she says in a discouraged tone. "...should've known better I guess." There's a bit of an edge to her voice in the last comment, and she rolls over, staring off at the sleeping turian in the next bunk over and putting a hand under the pillow.
Jessica frowns, but remains fixed on whatever it is she's staring distantly at. "What is that supposed to mean? Urrrg... You're making my head hurt, kitty cat. What is all of this about? Just-... out with it." she says with an exasperated sigh.
Yan Sun continues to lie with her back towards Jessica, staring out into the dark. She considers saying something but instead just frowns, remaining silent.
Jessica uses her foot to nudge Yan Sun's leg. "Mmmm?" Then she does it a second time. "Out with it." she repeats as she prods a third time, "Don't make this all awkward." She sighs and rolls over onto her other side to face Yan Sun's back. She pokes her fingertip into Yan Sun's back as a smirk crosses her lips. "Does the kitty cat have a crush?" she sings.
Yan Sun shifts as her leg is repeatedly nudged, but says nothing. The poke and the question that follows it elicits an uncomfortable expression. "What if she did...?" she mumbles quietly, still staring in Tarkus' general direction.
Jessica frowns, gaining an uncomfortable expression of her own as she continues to stare at Yan Sun's back. "Then-.... You-..." she sighs as she fails to come up with a response, she shrugs, the movement small, but given their close proximity, Yan Sun would be able to feel it. "Then-... Then I don't know..." she mutters, "Why does this have to be complicated? We could have a few more days together. You could go back to your
life, I go back to mine, and we both have stories to tell, yes? You can tell everyone about the Adrasteian trash that you banged-..." she pokes Yan Sun in the back again with her fingertip, "...in the elevator. And I can tell stories of the sweet, kind, cute technician with the fun arm that I corrupted. Mmm?" She lets out a low chuckle as she presses her forehead against the back of Yan Sun's head. "I meant what I
said, kitty cat. If you spent any more time with me, you would get tired of my shit..." she whispers.
Yan Sun 's frown deepens at first as she listens to Jessica, but in the end she can't help but gain a tiny, slightly sad smile, her expression softening. She lets out another sigh and reaches back with her right hand, gently grabbing Jessica's before she's poked again, and guiding it to wrap around her as she leans back closer. "Okay... fine... let's enjoy a few more days together." she says softly, her conviction questionable but
Jessica nods a couple times, forcing a smile. "Mmm. Sounds good." she says softly, scooting right up against Yan Sun and squeezing her tightly, making sure there's no room between them. She presses her lips against the back of Yan Sun's neck, giving her a quick, soft kiss. "....Thank you."
Yan Sun squeezes Jessica's hand, keeping her own over hers. She closes her eyes and a faint, but genuine, content smile spreads across her lips as she does her best to forget about what happens when their trip is over, focusing instead on the comforting feeling of Jessica's embrace as she drifts off into sleep, leaving her worries for another time.
Jessica remains awake for quite some time after Yan Sun falls asleep, unable to sleep after their conversation, but she continues to hold her closely throughout the night.
