Jessica reaches out, palms pressed together as her hands slide between the holograms between her and Yan Sun. She pulls her hands apart, pushing the displays away to give her a clear line of sight on Yan Sun. "Fifty-thousand credits!" she says, as if it's the most credits she's ever seen. "I've never seen so many zeros in my account!" she confirms. "We can buy whatever we want, kitty cat!"
#YanSun'sRoom – May 16, 2016
Yan Sun 's gaze turns to Jessica as her holograms are brushed aside, and she smirks, seemingly amused by her enthusiasm for the sum. "Yeah, not too bad I guess. Have any plans for-..." she raises an eyebrow. "We...?"
Jessica frowns and folds her arms across her chest, straightening up slightly. "Not too bad? Really? Oh, so sorry, I forget you are a big shot engineer, mmm? Fifty-thousand credits is just chump change for you and your glamorous Earth lifestyle, mmm?" She rolls her eyes. "Yes... we. But I can see that you don't need my credits, so maybe more for me." She swings her legs back over the side of the bed, feeling somewhat
Yan Sun looks both offended and ashamed, some part of what Jessica said clearly having struck a nerve. She gains a frown of her own and reaches down to turn her holographic gadget off before scooting closer. "Come on, I-... I didn't mean it like that. It's-... I think it's great... that you'll be able to afford to do what you want."
Jessica looks off towards the wall, purposely avoiding Yan Sun's gaze. "I've never had this much credits before..." she admits, "Maybe it's nothing for you. But for me? This is a lot. This is life changing. Maybe you don't know what it's like to just-... struggle everyday, mmm? But I do. So make your judgements. Go ahead and laugh it up at the poor, ignorant backwater planet trash..." she says, her voice getting softer
Yan Sun winces as Jessica goes on, her shame becoming obvious. "No, that's not-..." she let's out a sigh. "I don't think that. That's the absolute opposite of what I think. You think there aren't people that struggle on Earth? There are..." she crawls over to sit next to Jessica. "...and there's also a lot of rich assholes that do absolutely nothing to help." She hesitates for a moment, wringing her hands in her lap before
adding: "I did what I could to help. Back in Hong Kong. Re-distributed money to the people that needed it, right? My skills made me... well suited for that kind of work."
Jessica gives Yan Sun a sidelong glance. "Re-distribu-..." she pauses, her scowl slowly changing back into a grin, "...You're a thief, kitty cat!? Mmmm!?" She rotates in place, bringing one leg back atop the bed as she scoots right up against Yan Sun, "So that's why you're so good at breaking in to everything, mmm!? But you're so-... so-..." she leans her head back and looks Yan Sun up and down. "You know... clumsy.
Really clumsy. You would make a terrible thief." she says, suddenly looking as though she's having trouble believing it.
Yan Sun starts to blush, looking increasingly embarassed as Jessica goes on. She keeps her gaze on her hands, which are still fidgeting. "Well, yeah, I-... I wasn't alone. There were a lot of us. I handled the tech. People with a lot of money have a lot of security, right?" She glances at Jessica to gauge her reaction, turning a bit to face her. "I... did a lot of stuff. Disabling security, siphoning money, digging up secrets,
sabotage... To take all the assholes with the money and power down a peg, you know?" she shrugs slightly, still looking embarassed. "We wanted to change the world. Or... at least our city."
Jessica continues to study Yan Sun silently. "Mmm. And yet-... here you are." she says, giving a quick look about the room, "...Far from your city, mmm?" She looks quite amused, seemingly still waiting to decide if she even believes Yan Sun's story, "So I take it that means things didn't go too well in the end? Eh, they never go well forever, do they? On a long enough timeline, things always go to shit..."
Yan Sun gains a frown, and gives a shrug as her gaze falls to the floor. "Something like that..." she mumbles.
Jessica nods slowly, Yan Sun's reaction enough to convince her that the story is most likely true enough. "I know all about what can happen when you fuck with the wealthys' pride..." she grunts, but quickly shifts gears, "...So does this mean you're loaded? A fuck ton of credits siphoned into some secure account somewhere?"
Yan Sun looks up at Jessica, glaring slightly, but if fades soon. "It wasn't like that. I never kept much. If I need credits I find a way to get them..."
Jessica leans back, resting the palms of her hands against the bed to keep her upright. "Taking a bunch of credits from some assholes who look down on the rest of the galaxy sounds like 'a way to get them' to me..." she mutters, "...So... So what went wrong? Did you steal from the wrong asshole?" she asks tentatively. "It sounds like you wouldn't be out here if something hadn't went wrong...." she adds with a shrug,
Yan Sun shifts a bit, pulling one leg up into the bed as she turns to her side to look at Jessica. "Things just... went bad." she says, sounding almost bitter as her gaze darts away briefly. When she looks back to Jessica she smiles faintly, pulling her other leg up as well and sitting cross legged again. "But I came out here by choice. Like I said. I wanted to see the galaxy."
Jessica gives another slow nod. "They always go bad when credits are involved... But-..." she hesitates, partially due to being unsure of how Yan Sun will respond, and in part due to being surprised that she's genuinely curious to hear the answer, "...what about your family? Do they know...?"
Yan Sun scowls, looking out across the room. "Couldn't care less if they know." she mutters without elaboration.
