#ClubCobalt – July 1, 2017
It's November 16th and, as is the case most nights, the club seems to have its fair share of visitors. The holographic sign brightens up the street and the music can be felt from a few buildings down, thumping rhythmically and growing louder as Yan Sun draws closer. The music grows in volume and then shrinks back to a dull thump when the doors to Club Cobalt open and close and an asari dressed for a night out braves the cold to seek temporary
Yan Sun removes her hands from the pockets of her jacket as she approaches the club. She's taken the time to apply her usual makeup. Her clothes are the same as ever, only partly because the entirety of her possessions fit into one duffel bag. She glances around outside the club for any sign of Jessica, before heading past the asari and through the doors, smiling slightly as the music envelops her in the lobby.
It's a quick and painless process to get inside after a short wait in line. Even for a wednesday the crowd isn't surprising given Freedom Falls' lack of choice when it comes to latenight activities. People line up along the bar awaiting drinks as bodies sway on the dance floor to a particularly aggressive, hard hitting beat. Lights flash to the music, giving the illusion that everything is moving in slow-motion. Jessica is nowhere to be seen,
Yan Sun steps into the club after brushing the snow from her boots and shedding her winter clothes. Her eye lights up as she recieves a message from Jessica, and for a brief moment she stands frozen in place as she reads it, no doubt looking rather foolish to any onlooker. She swipes a hand across her left arm, and the holo-projectors come to life, manifesting into a keyboard as she types up her response, all the while looking
Nope. No Jessica. However, Yan Sun's sudden spin positions her perfectly to clash with the asari returning from her call outside. She's now far too focused on sending a message to pay attention to where she's walking and bumps right into Yan Sun.
Yan Sun lets out a startled noise that turns into a pained wince as her forehead slams against the asari's and she stumbles backward. Failing to regain her balance she falls flailing to the floor, kicking at the asari's shin in the process.
The asari's immediate reaction is to jolt back and reach for her own head as it collides with Yan Sun's, dropping her omni-tool to the floor with a grunt halfway between pained and surprised. "I'm so-..." she begins to apologize instinctively when she's kicked in the shin. The asari loses her balance and, were it not for a passing turian, would probably be tumbling to the floor right beside Yan Sun. The scene gathers the attention of those
nearby and a man hurries to Yan Sun's side, offering a hand to help her up. Yan Sun's omni-tool beeps and flashes once again. If the music were only slightly lower, the sound of hysterical laughter would be audible.
Yan Sun scrambles back to her feet, brushing off the man's help with an incoherent but thankfully inaudible mumble. Her face is red with embarassment as she looks around, trying to get her bearings. She looks at the asari with a wince and quickly snatches her omni-tool off the floor, holding it out for her. Jessica's amused message lingers unread in the corner of her vision.
The asari looks similarly embarassed. She accepts the omni-tool with a sheepish grin and quickly turns to thank the turian and send him on his way. The man Yan Sun brushes off simply shrugs and returns to what he was doing, which was nursing a drink at the bar counter nearby. "I'm so sorry!" the asari pleads, stepping in close as she struggles to be heard over the music. She runs a hand along her ornate, traditional asari dress in an attempt
Yan Sun holds out a hand in an apologetic gesture, shaking her head. "No, n-.. yeah, I'm fine." She says, touching her lip with her other hand and grimacing as she spots a bit of blood on her fingertips. She must have bitten her lip when she fell. "It was my fault. I'm-... I'm sorry, I should've been paying more attention. You okay?" she says, hoping she's loud enough to be heard.
The asari nods a few times, glancing down to make sure her rather restricting dress hasn't torn. "I'm fine!" she announces over the thumping of the music once her concern over her outfit has passed. Her focus finally back on Yan Sun, she seems to notice the blood. "You're bleeding!" she points out, "Are you sure you're alright!? Maybe-..." she glances around a bit, "...Let me help you get cleaned up! The bathrooms are right over there!" She
places one hand on Yan Sun's shoulder and then points past the bar with her hand containing her omni-tool.
Yan Sun glances in the direction indicated, wincing again at the sting as she sucks on her lip in an attempt to keep any blood from escaping. "No, that's-... that's not necessary, I can take care of it." she says, having to wipe some away with the back of her hand as she has to stop sucking to speak.
The asari winces once again, a flash of guilt crossing her face. "Alright-... umm... If you're sure..." she says. She glances towards the tables around the dance floor, giving a quick gesture towards one where a turian and two asari are seated. "I'm really sorry about that!" she continues, "How about you stop by our table later and I'll get you a drink? It's the least I can do!"
Yan Sun turns back to the asari and flashes a smile, which is slightly undercut by her now swollen lower lip. "Seriously, it wasn-..." she lets out a sigh, not particularly keen on spending all night arguing who's fault it was. "Yeah, sure." she says with a nod, her gaze darting over to Jessica's message, which causes her to look towards the upper level with eyebrows furrowed in annoyance.
The asari gives a big bright smile, pleased to clear things up without any hard feelings before she rushes off to return to her friends. Jessica can be seen along the railing of the second floor of the club, swaying rhytmically to the music with a glass in one hand, the club's lightshow only illuminating every other movement. As she catches Yan Sun's eye, she raises her free hand to flip her off and then leans over to press a kiss against her
middle finger. She sets her glass against the railing and leans up against it as she pulls her omni-tool back out and begins typing once again, glancing between her omni-tool interface and Yan Sun.
Yan Sun gives the asari a defeated wave as she heads off and then looks back up at Jessica, making a snarling grimace and briefly extending her own middle finger before she starts to make her way through the crowd. She reads the new message and then starts typing a reponse with her left hand, fingers dancing across her palm. She keeps her eyes on the people in front of her, typing by memory.
Jessica continues to split her attention between her omni-tool and Yan Sun as she makes her way through the club. A proud grin crosses her features as she reads the message and the glowing interface dissipates. She picks her glass back up and resumes her restrained, solo dancing. She's dressed in her typical attire. White tanktop, cargo pants and a pair of beat up old sneakers. Tonight, however, she's wearing her good cargo pants.
This is evident by the lack of fraying along the bottom of the pantlegs. She has a long-sleeved grey shirt tossed over her shoulder, long since removed as a night of dancing caught up with her.
Yan Sun eventually makes her way to the top part of the club, approaching Jessica with an unamused look on her face. "You're really, really suck, you know that?" she calls out after slipping past a dancing clubgoer. She's snatched up a paper napkin somewhere along the way, and is holding it to her lips as she scowls at Jessica.
Jessica pauses her subdued dancing as Yan Sun approaches and the current song comes to an end. "Mmm? You are mad with me because you are a fool!?" she asks with a grin, leaning in close to be heard. "Is not my fault you can not walk ten steps without hitting something!" If the smell of alcohol on her breath doesn't make it clear, the glazed over look in her good eye should get the point across pretty clearly: She's had more than a
Yan Sun grimaces slightly at the smell when Jessica leans in close. "You did that on purpose! The asari wouldn't stop apologizing!" She tries to snatch the drink from Jessica's hand and inspect it. "Having fun without me, asshole?"
The second level's dance floor has a number of club-employed scantily-clad asari who fall right back into the beat as the next song starts up, dancing away for onlookers. Jessica's drink has a strong odor. Someone with knowledge on the subject would find it instantly identifiable as batarian in origin.
Jessica is briefly distracted by the dancing asari, but frowns as her drink is snatched away. "This is a problem?" she challenges as she steps in closer, "Then why you didn't come with me!?" She wraps a hand around Yan Sun's grip on the drink and brings it up to her lips, rather than trying to wrestle the glass away, and takes a long sip.
Yan Sun scrunches her nose as she smells the drink. "Gah... what is this stuff?!" she exclaims. As Jessica drinks from the glass she pulls it away after only a brief sip. "Uh... you didn't invite me. You don't exactly let me know what you're up to..." she says, the paper napkin lowered to avoid obscuring her speech. She glances down briefly at the bloodstain.
Jessica's frown returns as the drink is pulled away. "Is good. Try it!" A grin crosses her lips and she presses up against Yan Sun, pushing Yan Sun up against the railing and resting her hands atop it. "Since when do you need to be invited to follow me around like a lost little kitty cat, mmm?" Her body sways back and forth as the new song picks up.
Yan Sun shoots the drink another glance and shakes her head, placing it as far away as she can on the railing before Jessica pushes her back. She raises an eyebrow, seeming both a little amused and put off. "I don't follow you around!" she exclaims loudly, wincing as she forgets to take her swollen lip into account. Her hand shoots up to it, slipping between her and Jessica.
Jessica gives an amused, condescending snicker. "No? So you are just on Aite for the weather, yes?" she asks, confident of the answer. She lifts her right hand off the railing and, using her index and middle finger, slowly walks them up Yan Sun's left arm, the uneven burns causing a slight scratching with each touch. "Face it, kitty cat. You. Belong. To me." To punctuate her point as her hand reaches Yan Sun's shoulder, she lifts her
Yan Sun furrows her eyebrows at Jessica's comment, an annoyed mumble all that escapes her before her expression melts into a goofy almost-smile as she glances at the fingers travelling up her arm. Jessica's final comment and the poke of her nose causes a slightly flustered look and an inaudible grumble. "...maybe I should just go talk to that asari and you can keep dancing on your own... she offered me a drink, you know!"
Jessica cocks an eyebrow, looking quite unamused by the suggestion. Her hand right hands comes back down to the railing and her gaze moves over the railing, causing her to practically lean over Yan Sun's right shoulder to scan the crowd for the asari. "Orrrr I am thinking maybe I should go and have a talk with her about touching other people's property." she suggests playfully.
Yan Sun offers no immediate comeback, instead tilting her head to press a kiss against Jessica's neck as she leans in, hiding the faint, embarassed grin that returns to her face in the process. She immediately regrets the kiss, flinching slightly from a brief stab of pain, but it doesn't distract her for long as she starts to move slightly side to side in tune with the music, unable to do much more as she's still pinned against the
railing. "Look who's jealous..." she eventually says with a giggle that goes unheard under the beat.
Jessica leans against the kiss, briefly closing her eyes before she gives up on her hopeless attempt at picking the asari out of the crowd. Her attention returns to Yan Sun, her good eye scanning over her features until she spots the bloodied lip as her body meets Yan Sun's movements in a gentle sway. "I do not get jealous." she says confidently as she leans in and presses an uncharacteristically soft kiss against Yan Sun's lips. Her
true intentions are revealed, however, when she bites down on Yan Sun's lip, giving it a brief, soft tug before pulling away again with a snicker.
Yan Sun briefly closes her eyes in reponse to the kiss, only to have them shoot open when Jessica bites down, causing her to let out a gasp, blinking repeatedly as her eyes water. She shoves Jessica almost reflexively, a bit harder than intended due to the pain. "哎唷! 奸仔-fuck-oww..."
Jessica stumbles backwards a few steps and brings a hand up to her mouth to suppress her chuckling, barely able to get a, "Don't act like you don't love it!" out before her laughter takes over. The distance created between them as she stumbles back allows the music to drown the laughter out completely. Jessica takes this opportunity to raise her arms and thrash from side-to-side rhytmically as she does a little turn to the music.
Yan Sun daps her lip with the napkin, a mildly irritated frown taking the place of pain in her face as she leans back against the railing. It doesn't last long, however, and it's not long before a smile is tugging at the non-swollen corner of her lips as she watches Jessica dance, settling for swaying in tune with the music, herself, as she nurses her wound.
Jessica continues to dance by herself for a few more moments before turning back to Yan Sun with a big grin. Left unattended, she swoops back for her drink before returning to Yan Sun, each step in tune to the music and accompanied by head bobbing. Never one to respect physical boundaries, she presses right back up against Yan Sun's right side, her own left hand against the railing as she cradles her drink in her right. "I am going to
tell them at work that I will be leaving Aite soon!" she announces, leaning in so close to Yan Sun's ear that her breath can be felt. She glances out over the railing as she takes a sip of her drink, pretending to be preoccupied with all of the dancers before looking back to Yan Sun and adding non-chalantly, "You-... uhh... You still want me to come with, yes?"
Yan Sun lets her hand drop, and studies Jessica for a moment before nodding with a small grin. "Yeah. Of course." she says, her response almost drowned out by the noise of the club. Her gaze darts over to the drink, and she leans towards the glass, mirroring Jessica's earlier move in order to steal the last of the liquid. "You've had enough." she says, quickly followed by hissing and grimacing as she quickly learns batarian drinks
Jessica doesn't bother reacting to the confirmation, lest it call more attention to her own insecurities, instead she just returns to nodding her head to the beat. Her attention is brought back to Yan Sun when she steals her drink and her shoulders rise and fall as she has another laugh at the reaction the drink gets. "Is good, yes?" she asks. Her head swivels from side to side as she looks for an employee to wave over, "I will get
Yan Sun leans back against the railing, traces of pain lingering on her face as she nurses her now-stinging lip. "Uh, yeah, think I'm gonna skip the drinks for now..." she says. After another ill-advised prod she looks up as the song shifts to something she's actually familiar with - a definite rarity out here in the Terminus. She pushes off from the railing and grabs Jessica's left wrist, pulling at it. "Let's just dance! I like
this song!" she calls out, already starting to move, her implants seeming to react either to the music or to her movements as they glow brighter and start to pulse.
Jessica's drunken mind seems easily distracted as she appears to immediately forget about the drinks when she's tugged towards Yan Sun. She quickly ditches the empty glass back on the railing before joining Yan Sun. A big, drunken grin crosses her lips as the lightshow begins, but it takes her a moment to fall in tune with the unfamiliar song. "What is this?" she calls out.
Yan Sun 's dancing quickly starts to grow more enthusiastic, and as usual there's an inexblicable lack of her usual clumsiness. "This is Earth music! European, I think!" she calls out before moving closer, her hand going to Jessica's shoulder, and briefly up her neck before letting go and spinning around as she heads a bit further out onto the dancefloor. "The clubs back home used to play this all the time a couple of years ago!"
Jessica's hands move to Yan Sun's side as she approaches and she presses her forehead against Yan Sun's until she pulls away. As Yan Sun gives some background on the song, Jessica furrows her brow and nods a few times upon hearing that it was popular on Earth. "Mmm. Yes, I recognize this!" she lies, putting a false sense of confidence into her movements, which are quite clearly off the beat, to reinforce the lie as she dances along
behind Yan Sun onto the dance floor. Though once they reach the dance floor most of her attention is on Yan Sun, once again in awe at the fact that she hasn't faceplanted. Or perhaps expecting it to happen.
Yan Sun lets out a snicker as she notices Jessica's struggle, clearly not buying the lie. She smiles as she pushes back against her, still facing away as she her shoulders and hips move to the beat. She glances back over her left shoulder, flashing a smile. "You are such a bad liar!" she exclaims with another laugh.
Jessica brings her right hand to Yan Sun's hip and slides it across to her right thigh, leaving it to rest there as her left hand snakes around Yan Sun's midsection and settles on her stomach. "What are you talking about!?" she asks, planting her face in the right side crook of Yan Sun's neck as her body matches Yan Sun's movements, dancing right up against her and keeping her held close. "I am a great liar!" she snickers, perhaps
Yan Sun presses back against Jessica, her dancing softening a bit. She reaches back with her right hand, running it across the back of Jessica's shaved head. "Right, right! Because that's how we met, right? You had me and everyone else fooled with your super-convincing Alliance soldier story! I remember!" she says with a laugh.
Jessica lets out a displeased grunt, not particularly used to being on this side of the teasing. She nips at Yan Sun's neck with her teeth, giving her a slight pinch in retalliation. "Fuck you! It worked before...." she says in barely a mutter. Though, as Kirill's story revealed, it also failed before. "You just ruined my story!"
Yan Sun seems to be quite enjoying the turning of the tables for once, although the bite causes her to squirm and momentarily lose her rythm, only remaining in place because of Jessica's arms. Her hand leaves the back of her head and she looks out across the dancefloor as she gets back into her dancing, arms moving higher. "I see through you!" she pushes. "Trying to impress me?"
Jessica scoffs loudly. "Impressyou?" she asks, continuing to move to the rhythm. "You are forgetting, kitty cat... I do not need to impress you. I am already having you wrapped around my finger." she taunts. Shameless as usual, she raises her head and presses a kiss against Yan Sun's ear, dragging her tongue along the rim with little care about whether or not she's making a spectacle, for the sake of pushing Yan Sun's buttons.
Yan Sun 's dancing stutters slightly, and she shoots a few quick, embarassed glances at the nearest clubgoers. quickly leaving Jessica meeting only hair. Her retort disappears into an, under the music inaudible, mumble.
Jessica's right hand slides back and forth across Yan Sun's thigh, eager to capitalize on her discomfort. "What is the matter, mmm? I thought you know this song?" she whispers into her ear with an amused grin and a drunken chuckle.
Yan Sun tries to keep up her dancing at first, but soon ends up only fidgeting in Jessica's grasp. "混賬-我憎死你-唔妥..." she mutters, reaching for her hand and slipping her fingers between Jessica's to move it up to join her left at her midsection. "You are-... ugh."
Jessica continues to snicker to herself and intertwines her fingers with Yan Sun's. "I am what?" she asks, though her attempt at being confrontational is undercut by her continued amusement over Yan Sun's discomfort, "Mmm?"
Yan Sun places both of her arms over Jessica's and squeezes her hand, giving up on the dancing as she turns her head back to the right, eyeing Jessica. "You're the most frustrating person I've ever met." she says with a small grin, uneven due to her swollen lip.
Jessica tightens her grip around Yan Sun's waist, giving her a firm squeeze. "Mmm. Then I am good at what I do." she brags as she meets Yan Sun's gaze. Her own hips continue to sway to the music, seemingly unconcerned with the fact that Yan Sun has stopped dancing.
Yan Sun leans back against Jessica. She slowly but surely starts to move in tune with the music again, albeit only faintly, perhaps spurred by Jessica's refusal to stop. She seems quite content to simply dance in silence, closing her eyes for the moment as she focuses on the thumping of the music and on Jessica's movements behind her.
Jessica falls silent as well, allowing her head to rest against Yan Sun's as they sway together to the music. The lights, the music, and the drunken haze do wonders to keep her mind occupied. It isn't until the song ends that she releases her grip on Yan Sun and backs away with a few deep breaths as she wipes at her forehead with the grey shirt over her shoulder. "Mmm. I think I am going to like Earth music." she decides.
Yan Sun makes her way past Jessica, back to the railing as the song ends, brushing the hair from her face and propping herself up with her arms as she looks out across the club. "It's not all that different, honestly. Not the club stuff, anyway. Less variety, I guess. Not a lot of alien music..." She can't keep herself from poking her lip again, and predictably it causes a slight wince and immediate regret.
Jessica sucks a deep breath in through her nose as she follows Yan Sun back to the railing and leans against it on the left of Yan Sun. She falls silent for a few moments as Yan Sun speaks before looking her way. "What are we going to do when we get to Earth?" she asks, holding Yan Sun's gaze. Every now and then she cranes her neck a bit more so she can actually see Yan Sun, given that she's to the right of Jessica. It's a subtle,
practiced movement to avoid drawing attention to the fact that she can't actually see out of her right eye.
Yan Sun glances Jessica's way. "I, uh..." she begins, before looking out across the club once more. "I don't know. I figured I'd... show you my city, I guess. Where I'm from. It's only fair, no? I don't know how long we wanna stay, but... it's not like we have to figure that out now. If... there's somewhere else you want to go on Earth, we could..." she pauses briefly after mentioning the last part, leaving the obvious implication
unsaid. "Of course, travel might be a bit tricky, depending." She shrugs. "ANd when we wanna leave, we leave... right? Not... sure where to, but... yeah."
Jessica's gaze moves back out to the crowd, the implication not exactly missing her. "I don't think I want to go-..." she trails off with a deep sigh, not even wanting to say it out loud after all of the long, excited conversations she and her brother had about their home, "...There..." she decides before shaking her head and adding in a mutter, "...It doesn't matter." It's probably just the alcohol allowing her to even acknowledge
that the thought entered her mind, but she seems to catch herself quickly enough and, refusing to dwell on that for even a moment longer than necessary, takes another deep breath and shifts in place against the railing as she switches gears. "We go. We do lots of parties. We fuck on our third planet! And then we leave when there is nothing else there for us and find somewhere new." she lays the plan out with a stern nod.
