#Miner'sRespite – August 17, 2013

Darsk stops by the bar on his way out, briefly speaking with the bartender

Victoria walks into the Respite and straight up to the bar "Bartender, get me a rum and coke please."

Darsk turns to Victoria warily. "There sure are a lot of humans here, aren't there?"

Victoria shrugs "I don't know. I only just bloody got here."

That makes two of us.

What brought you here?

Victoria looks at the Krogan as her drink arrives "I did not have a choice in the matter. Lets just say work sent me here."

Darsk still hasn't let his guard down. He silently considers her words

And just what kind of work might that be... if you don't mind my asking?

Victoria takes a quick sip of her drink "Well it is bloody nothing now. Since they fired me."

Steve bounds down the stairs two at a time, a spring in his step that wasn't there the day before. After scanning the room for familiar faces and coming up empty, he makes his way to the bar, taking a stool beside the krogan. "Just a coffee." he says with a smile as the bartender approaches.

Darsk starts at the sudden activity, the returns to his drink in agitation.

Great. Another human.

Steve cocks his head upon hearing the krogans remark. "There's plenty of other seats, friend." he offers with a smirk.

Victoria "Krogan way or the highway." She comments

Darsk is not amused. "I'm comfortable here."

Steve chuckles to himself and takes a sip of his coffee as it's set before him. "Yeah? Then I suppose you'll have to deal with the company." he says, smug smirk plastered across his face.

Darsk growls quietely, but returns to his drink.

Victoria gives a little chuckle at the attitude of the human towards the krogan.

Something funny, human?

Steve nods to himself, clearly pleased with the reaction, and returns his focus to his cup of coffee.

Victoria "Maybe, would that be a problem with a big strong krogan such as yourself?" She said in a rather bland not caring tone.

You're lucky it isn't. I doubt most krogan would have let the conversation last this long.

I don't make a habit of picking fights with human females.

Victoria looks at her drink and rolls her eyes and takes a quick sip "Well then I am sorry." She said in a sarcastic tone, one that would hard to fully realise if they never heard it before.

On second thought, maybe I will take another seat.

Steve pivots in his stool, leaning an elbow against the counter. "Let me give you a bit of advice, friend. I've never met you. I don't have a problem with you. I don't know what your issue is with me, but you don't go to a human colony and start a fight with the natives. It's just not a smart move." he says, gesturing animatedly as he speaks, "Now how about we give this another shot and put all that behind us?"

Victoria nods at the human male "He is right, it is not smart coming to a human colony and complaining about the natives."

Darsk snorts. "A human colony? This colony declared independance from the Council long before humanity left their home system."

It's not humans I have a problem with. It's human money. Human corporations, human Systems Alliance. It all adds up to the Council.

Well, you can go live in the Terminus then. No Council there.

I can hardly believe this. Have you checked a map lately?

Victoria | "Wait.... You are telling me we are not in Council space?" She looked somewhat surprised.

Darsk continues ranting. "The Alliance had a chance at finally giving the Hierarchy what they deserved. Instead, they simply replaced them as the Council's newest pet!"

Victoria | "Wait, wait, wait, so you are telling me we are still in Terminus space?" She was more interested in that than anything else.

Steve sighs and swivels further, facing the krogan fully. "Look, buddy. I don't care what your opinion about my kind are. Just take a look around you." he says, gesturing towards the rest of the room, "If you came to pick a fight with humans... Then you're behind enemy lines."

And I thought I'd be free from the Council on an independent Terminus colony...

Free? What is it you're looking for freedom to do? As far as I can see, all you've tried to do is insult someone you've never met.

My people were castrated by a tyrannical out of control alien bureaucracy, and you ignorant yokels haven't the nerve to question me about freedom?

Darsk storms back to room

Steve watches as Darsk rushes back up the stairs. "I'd say that went well... Better than most krogan encounters."

I should have looked at the map before those bastards kicked me off my ship....

Steve stares at the peculiar woman for a moment. "Sounds like there's a story somewhere in there."

Victoria looks at the man "Get me drunk enough and I might tell you. That and I might try something else."

Steve shakes his head with a sigh, "Doesn't sound like that interesting of a story, sweetheart."

Victoria shrugs "I bet it is better than yours."

Iressa descends the stairs into the lower floor, looking around the room with a strange expression on her face. Quickly she spots a patron whose presense seems to answer a question in her mind, and approaches him. "I hate to bother you, really, but you didn't happen to see a Krogan stamping around, did you?"

Steve begins to respond to the human before being hastily cut off by an unfamiliar patron. "A krogan?" he asks, swiveling in his seat to face the woman, "Yeah... Just missed him. Big grumpy fella."

Iressa carefully inspects the bar for damage before turning back to the human. "He didn't... hurt anyone, did he? I don't want him causing trouble that might get us thrown out." She rubs the back of her neck, looking genuinely embarrassed.

Victoria goes back to drinking her drink

Steve glances down, inspecting himself. He wipes at his shirt, acting as if he's dusting himself off. "I think I'll live." he says, offering a genuine smile, "Nah... He was just running his mouth. Nothing serious. Friend of yours?"

Iressa lets out a breath. "That's good, I know he's never been the biggest fan of humans. In hindsight, this probably wasn't the best place to land." With a sigh, she takes a place at the counter. "Friend? Ahh... sure." She answers with a dismissive smile.

Steve nods in response to the insinuation. "Might be a good idea to keep an eye on that one. He seemed dead set on kicking up dirt."

Iressa nods as well, settling on the stool. "Always sound advice with him. At any rate, sorry for the trouble."

Steve begins fiddling with his coffee cup, rotating it in place as he speaks, "Nothing to be sorry for..." he says, "What's his deal anyways?"

Victoria continues to sip at her drink until it is gone

Iressa shrugs, "He's a Krogan, it's how they are, I suppose. I hired him for security, not public relations." Peering past Steve, she finally notices the other patron. "Am I interrupting?"

Victoria looks at the asari and shakes her head "Not at all"

Steve raises an eyebrow as curiosity gets the best of him. "Security? Security from what? " he asks before realizing he may have crossed the line. "If you don't mind me asking, of course." he adds.

Iressa looks almost confused that he needs to ask such a question. "The Terminus systems don't always host the friendliest of planets, you know. I figure if there's a threat just around the corner, a giant bipedal tank wielding a shotgun may come in handy." Her smile fades into a frown as she considers that statement. "On second thought, that makes it sound like he's a meat shield. We're partners, you see."

Victoria hears that and turns suddenly "Wait you are banging a krogan?!?!"

Iressa stutters in shock, eyes growing wide. "Wait, n-no. I mean, I might, but- I meant business! Business partners!" She averts her gaze, hoping to hide the fairly obvious embarrassment.

Steve shakes his head. "Don't pay her any mind... Think she's had a bit too much to drink." he says. "I just meant... The Terminus systems bring in a certain crowd. Typically those too stupid to worry about security, or those who have been around long enough to know it won't do much good. So what is it that brings you out this way?"

Iressa grumbles a little to herself, "Clearly too much." Turning her attention back to the male human, she smiles a knowing smile. "I don't believe you understand. Other travellors don't frighten me much, they're not the ones I'm worried about. I'm here for the native biota, it's my job. I don't know about this planet, but I've enounctered wildlife not afraid to take a charge at you. It's always good to have someone watching your back in a encounter like that. But that's awfully boring. Say, I have some time to kill, what brings you here?"

Steve snorts loudly upon hearing the asari's comment about the local wildlife. "Trust me... I know all too well about the critters around here..." he says, shaking his head. He takes a moment to contemplate her question before continuing, "Nothing too exciting. Woke up one day and decided I wasn't where I wanted to be in life. This place seemed as good a place as any to start over, ya know? Supposed to be plenty of opportunities..." he sighs deeply, "At least that's what I've been told..."

Iressa cocks her head just a bit, "Is that not correct? As a matter of fact, a saw a job listing not too long ago for a salvage mission up in the mountains. Is work that scarce?"

Could be worse. You could have been thrown off your own ship and left here with nothing.

Steve chuckles and shakes his head. "I was on that job. It was a waste of fucking time." he says, still a bit irate over the whole ordeal.

Iressa looks in surprise at the other patron, "That's what happened to you, I take it? Sounds... unfortunate." She remarks, her sympathic tone hardly passable as genuine.

Victoria | "My own damn ship, after years of being the boss of that thing. They just throw me off and with nothing to show for it." She ordered herself another rum and coke "Bastards."

Steve drums his fingertips against the counter and glances at the human. "Sounds rough." he says with an eyeroll, his tone monotone and devoid of emotion.

Iressa looks skeptically at her, resting one arm more comfortably on the counter. "Just threw you off, huh? Totally unprovoked?"

Victoria looks at the asari "When you are in my type of work, the asshole who wants your job either kills you or gets the crew against you and throws you off the ship." She just shook her head "I always paid them on time and made sure no unnecessary risks were taken."

Steve leans forward against the counter, propping his head up with his hand. "I'm not buying it. You're saying they just suddenly decided to launch a coup? Completely out of the blue?"

Iressa considers this a moment, "Well, even if that's true, you knew the risks. It's that type of work, after all. You said it yourself. As a matter of fact, it sounds like you could have ascended ranks through the same conduct."

Victoria | "When the bastard who led the coup, wanted to bang me and I kept on telling him no. Then giving him and any others the hardest jobs to do for being a complete dick or ass. Then they often like a change of leadership." Her facial expression gave a look that she was telling the truth. She turns her attention to the asari "A very close friend gave me that ship, and I was her first mate for years. And I never thought about betraying her."

Renala descends the staircase, looking around the place for any familiar faces. She does spot Steve, and maes her way over to the bar. "Morning, Steve," she nods to him before taking a seat, not wishing to interrupt the conversation. She looks over the menu screens.

Steve sighs, feeling slightly guilty for mocking the woman earlier. "You're not gonna find any solutions in the bottom of a bottle." he says, "You need to get your act together and figure out how to get your ship back. Or let it go and move on." Upon Renala's arrival, his smile returns. "Well look who it is. You sure made off in a hurry yesterday."

Renala | "Yeah, sorry about that," she says. "I did come back, but you've already left by then." She waves over a bartender and orders a small sandwich and a cup of 'normal' coffee.

Iressa slumps just a bit in her seat, looking like the human next to her feels. "He makes a valid point, you know." When the other asari arrives, she takes a moment to note how long she's been sitting and chatting, deciding she ought to return to the grumpy Krogan surely awaiting her in their room upstairs. With a nod of her head to the other patrons, she slips up the stairs and out of sight.

Victoria go back to her drink, since chasing a ship that is in space with very little creds is impossible.

Steve returns the nod without realizing he had failed to even learn the asari's name until it was too late.

Steve rotates on his stool to face Renala, "So, any luck with finding more work?"

Renala looks at the other asari for a moment, then shakes her head as she returns her attention to Steve. "I've been looking, but I couldn't find the open positions at the IT firm on their extranet site," she says, "and I spent much of the time yesterday trying to fix the guns I picked up during the job."

At least one of us was productive. I slept... All day. So did you have any luck with the weapons?

Renala thinks for a moment. "No, I know how to maintain one of the pistols, but not repairing it, and I don't really have replacement parts," she says. "I think I'll take it to Bob's shop before I make it worse."

Steve raises an eyebrow. "Bob's shop?"

Victoria continues sipping her drink

Renala nods. "Crazy Bob's Armory," she recites the sign that was atop the store's entrance. "Ran by a very... enthusiastic volus. That's where I bought the pistol I brought with me on that job."

Does he handle hardsuits? Mine could use a good refurbishing. I did the best I could, but it's far from my field of expertise.

Renala | "He sells hard-suits at least," Renala says. "As for whether he can repair them, you'd better ask him. His store's not too hard to find. Just look for a logo with a krogan holding a hammer and a... I think it's a grenade launcher." She glances towards the bartender, but it seems her order is not done yet.

Steve finishes off his coffee with one last swig. "I'll check into it. It's been years since I've had any real work done on mine, it's practically falling apart. You mind taking a trip over there with me some time?"

Renala | "I won't mind," she says with a faint smile. "Just send me a message when you want to go." Her coffee is delivered, but the sandwich is still not made. She picks up the cup and takes a tiny tentative sip of the very hot liquid.

Steve slides his cup across the counter to the bartender for a refill. "So..." he says, leaning forward to look at the human past Renala, "You doin' alright? Haven't drowned in that bottle yet, have you?" he asks with a smirk.

Renala looks at the human woman beside her, following Steve's gaze.

"No, I ain't doing alright. The one thing I truly had, gone. I have very little credits and the bastards left after they thrown me off the ship." She takes a sip of her drink "And sorry if you think I am bitching too much, but at the moment I don't care."

Steve leans back as his refill is brought to him. "You'll figure it out... Just give it time." he says, turning his attention back to Renala. "So... I never asked... Why Aite? There's plenty of opportunity all over the Terminus systems. What made you settle on Aite?" he asks, genuinely interested in the answer.

Renala thinks for a moment. "After figuring out the matron's life didn't really work out for me, I kinda wanted to go back. Sort of a mid-life crisis going on, I guess," she says followed by a shrug, not a hundred percent serious in her last sentence if the tone's anything to go by. "I also sought a place where I could settle down at some point. This little town on Aite seemed like that kind of place."

Victoria just shakes her head not really listening to the others and not really happy with her current status, she continues to drink

Steve nods slowly. "I can understand that, I guess... Just seems like not many people would consider a place like this as a good choice for 'settling down'." he says, rotating his cup absently, "Not unless they had nowhere else to go, anyways."

Renala takes another tiny sip of her coffee. "I wanted the possiblity to settle down, but also to take a break from the matron stage, so to say," she says. "That sounded like a good idea at the time... now I miss the stability and the certain future." Her sandwich is delivered around the time she finishes speaking.

What's keeping you from going back?

Steve takes a short sip of his coffee and quickly resumes fiddling with his cup.

Renala | "Don't get me wrong, I still want to see how things turn out for me here," she says as she picks up her coffee cup. "I won't give up yet."

Steve smiles and nods. "Good to hear. I'd hate to see you go..." he says, standing from his stool, "But unfortunately, I do have to get going for a bit... Few things to take care of right now."

Renala nods as she places her cup on the counter. "I'll see you around, Steve."

Steve nods, "See ya, Ren." As he passes the drunk human, he pats her on the shoulder. "Try not to get yourself killed." he says before heading back to his room.

Victoria grumbles something that cannot be really heard

Renala stands up and takes her breakfast, and then moves over to a booth to eat it in silence.

Victoria put her head on the top of the bar top, and grumbles some more the only noticeable words being bloody bastards.

Renala finishes eating a couple of minutes later, and heads by the bar to pay for heself before making her way upstairs to her room.

Victoria checks how much credits she has, and ask the bartender how much for a room. Doing some fast adding work, she has enough for a few nights. She pays for her drinks and a room for a few nights. Then heads up stairs to a room.
