#Miner'sRespite – July 27, 2014

Ehanis enters the Respite from the main entrance, having been out looking around the city. She's wearing a blue short-sleeved top showing not much skin below the neck, and gray pants. A purse hangs over her right shoulder. She makes her way over to the bar and takes a seat, ordering a glass of brandy from Va'ynna who returns with it a moment later.

Shyva'Nahl shuffles down the stairs, having spend the day in her room getting acclimated. The curvy Quarian makes her way towards the bar, reading her omnitool, and sits down. "G-Good afternoon." she mumbles quietly towards Va'ynna. "I-I'd l-like a s-sterile water if y-you have any." She seems to have calmed quite a bit from last night, that's for sure.

Va'ynna frowns, and pours a clean glass from the tap they have beneath the counter. "Um, I... I don't know if it's... safe for quarians," she says, sounding unsure. "It's just... approved for both levo and dextro... to drink." She places the glass on the counter. "Don't," she fidgets a little, "your suit have... filters?"

Shyva'Nahl nods as she looks at the glass, now unsure. "T-They do. B-But if you're n-not sure, I p-probably s-shouldn't." She looks at the racks behind Va'ynna and hums. "I d-don't m-mean to be a b-bother, but d-do you h-have any dextro d-drinks that a-aren't alcoholic?"

Va'ynna hums thoughtfully, tapping on her terminal. "We do," she says. "Again, they may just abide by... tuirian regulations." She brings up a hand to scratch the side of her crest. "I'm... sorry, Nahl," she says, "I don't... know anything about serving quarians."

Shyva'Nahl sighs and nods slowly. "W-We d-do seem r-rare out here..." she mumbles, placing her shakey hands on the bar. "I a-am still thirsty t-though. A-As long a-as they d-don't mess with m-my filters, I'll t-try anything dextro."

Ehanis makes her way over to the quarian and sits down. "Already forgotten about me, huh?" she says, although an amused grin belies her serious tone. She sips her drink before putting the glass down.

Va'ynna nods and makes her way over to the cooled racks, picking out a bottle of some dextro fruit juce. She makes her way back to the counter and places the bottle on it. "Would you like a glass of this?" she says. "Our... dextro selection isn't large."

Shyva'Nahl shakes her head at Va'ynna. "N-No, a gl-glass will not b-" She gets cut off by a high pitched eep as Ehanis sits down next to her. She seems to be startled, but after a few seconds she calms down. "O-Oh... h-hello Ehanis. I d-didn't s-see you..." she mumbles, a little embarressed. She looks back at the bartender and picks up where she left off. "A g-glass will n-not be necessary, t-thank you."

Va'ynna puts up a hand to cover her mouth as a faint giggle escapes her. She takes the glass of water and moves over to pour it back into the sink. "If there's anything else,... please ask," she says, offering a small smile. She isn't really happy with how it went, but she hid it pretty well.

Come on, you people have to recognize each other with visors like that...

Ehanis smiles. "Slept well?"

Shyva'Nahl nods at the woman and takes out a small, sterile, looped straw from a pouch by her side, and slides it into her fruit drink and plugs the import section into her mask's filter. She takes a small sip and mmms. "T-This is n-nice, t-thank you." she says, before looking at Ehanis, slightly confused. "Y-Yes, thank you. W-What do you m-mean, exactly?"

You all go around with these suits on your fleet, right? I don't think I've seen any quarian that didn't hide their face behind it.

Shyva'Nahl blinks a few times. "W-Well, y-yeah. We h-have to." she says, still a little confused. "I'm n-not sure w-what... OH! S-Sorry. I t-think I get w-what you mean. I... w-wasn't paying a-attention t-to who was around r-really..."

Well... you know living on a ship better than I do. Space stations is the closest I've gotten to it.

Ehanis picks up her glass and takes a sip of it. "So, have you seen the town yet?"

Shyva'Nahl nods at Ehanis. "S-Ship living, I-I've found is safe, c-clean, and e-efficient." Then she blinks and shakes her head. "I, u-um... only j-just left my r-room."

I was just out there. Found a decent street for shopping not far from here.

Ehanis takes another sip of her glass. "We would have passed it had we walked all the way here."

Shyva'Nahl tilts her head at the asari. "I... I've n-never been shopping b-before." she says, still visibly shaking a little. "W-What k-kind of shops w-were there? I a-assume there w-were parts stores and s-supplies, s-stuff like that?" she'd usually had her goods assigned to her family in the form of rations, not bought from a store.

Ehanis hums thoughtfully. "That, too, but there's also clothes, groceries, home electronics... guns, armor. A lot of things, really. There are probably other places here with stores, too." She places her glass on the counter before adding, "Better be careful there if you want ot save your money."

Shyva'Nahl nods with a smile. "T-That sounds i-interesting... y-you'll h-have to show me o-one day." she then stops and gives Ehanis a fairly sheepish smile. "T-That is... if y-you'll b-be so kind..." she practically mumbles, feeling she's overstepping her boundries. "And, uh... w-when I h-have a job..."

It's not much of a walk, so I can probably show you around there when you get a job.

Ehanis looks thoughtful for a second before asking, "So, have you found any places to apply to yet?"

Shyva'Nahl opens up her omnitool with a nod. "T-There are a f-few companies a-around here who m-may need my sk-skills." she mumbles, thoughtfully. "B-But none of t-thier recruitment p-pages have a-anything t-that j-jumps o-out at me. T-Then again, I d-doubt they'll outright s-say they'll need s-sanitation w-workers."

Start throwing out applications, then!

Ehanis frowns. "Interviews are no fun, though.... Maybe they're different here than on Illium forty years ago."

Steve steps out through the door behind the counter in his usual gear and takes a moment to stretch before wandering towards the sink. "How's it going?" he asks casually as he passes Va'ynna, attempting to make small talk. He grabs a glass from beneath the counter and begins to inspect it.

Shyva'Nahl blinks. "Illium f-forty years ago?" she asks, then looks at her omnitool. "t-that was twenty y-years before I w-was even born..." She seems a bit perplexed by this information, even though she knew Asari could grow to be stupidly old. "As f-for applications... I s-suppose its w-worth a s-shot." She looks back at Ehanis. "A-Are there any c-companies I s-should try and a-avoid?"

Va'ynna looks over at Steve. "I'm fine," she says. "My simulsim viewer broke... just when I could afford getting a copy of Nekyia Corridor." She picks up a half-empty bottle from the counter. "How about you?" she asks before going to return that bottle to a nearby spot on the racks on the back wall.

Ehanis shakes her head. "I'm new here in town, too, you know," she says. "If it's a store or somewhere else with customers, I suppose you try checking around the 'net what people think of it."

Steve finishes looking over the glass and, satisfied with its cleanliness, slides it under the tap and begins to fill it with water. With a roll of his shoulders, he gives the asari a shrug. "Doin' alright, I guess. Another slow night." he says, glancing up from his glass, "Don't tell Aylena, but if you want my opinion, she's tossing away her credits on security."

Shyva'Nahl nods and looks at her omnitool again. "I w-was thinking m-maybe one of t-the corporations s-set up h-here. Big b-buildings, a l-lot to clean." she explains, then looks at Ehanis. "P-Plenty of s-small spaces t-to hide a-away and think."

Va'ynna frowns. "Um, but... we do need security," she says in a lowered voice, "if... something like what happened before," she fidgets a little, "happens again."

Renala descends the staircase, looking around the floor. Her eyes linger on the quarian and asari for a few seconds before she proceeds towards the bar and takes a seat. It's not often she's seen a quarian around here, afte rall. She's three seats on the quarian's right. "A small glass of beer, please," she says to Va'ynna before looking at Steve, "Hey."

Steve gives another shrug. "I guess... But shit, would be cheaper for Aylena to just wait for it to happen and get a new bartender rather than spend all these credits on security for something that may never occur." he says with a smile before quickly adding, "So what's this about your simulsim?" As Renala takes a seat, he swivels around and shoots a smile her way, "Hey, Ren."

Ehanis raises her brow. "Hide away and think?" she says. "I'm pretty sure they won't let you do that if they're paying you by the hour."

Va'ynna stares at him for a second, looking more than a little hurt. She doesn't give him a response before making her way over to another part of the bar; asking a patron there if they'd like anything else.

Shyva'Nahl nods slowly. "Well, n-no..." she mumbles then sighs. "L-Let m-me put it another w-way... Uuum..." she thinks for a few seconds, trying to think of the right words. "I... like t-to clean things. Th-thoroughly. I-It's w-what I was brought up t-to do. H-Having a l-lot to clean will l-let me t-think, k-keep my m-mind occupied. T-That makes sense, r-right?" she asks, taking a long sip from her juice.

Steve calls after the asari, "I'm just sayin' it'd be cheaper! Not sayin' she should do it!" He gives Renala a glance and chuckles to himself. "That girl is about the most sensitive person I've ever met."

Renala chuckles, giving a small wave towards the bartender as she might not have heard Renala's order. "Yeah," she says. "Haven't you been working with her for a while now?"

Steve takes a sip of his water and sets it on the counter. Giving a short nod, he puts his hands on his hips and looks towards Va'ynna, "Yeah. It's been a while, now. We don't talk too much, though. I get the impression she's not my biggest fan."

Ehanis nods. "That sounds better than hiding from your employer, yeah," she says with a sheepish grin. "It's been too long since I've had a job where I could do that. Can't really be in your own little world when working on Omega."

I bet...

Renala follows his gaze before looking towards him again. "So, how's your work going?"

Shyva'Nahl shrugs, taking another sip of her drink. "I d-don't know m-much about Omega, o-other than its messy a-and dangerous." she says, then glances at her omnitool. "I'll s-send off s-some applications l-later. I h-hope they don't h-hate Quarians..." she lets out a long sigh, then looks at Ehanis. "A-Anyway... E-Ehanis, I d-don't a-actually know a-anything a-about you." She says, perking up with a smile. "T-Tell me a little more a-about you."

Va'ynna makes her way back to the asari matron. "A beer, right, sorry," she says, having heard her order. She moves over to the tap and pours a glass of the beer she remembers serving her last time. "Anything else I can get you?" she asks before placing the glass on the counter infront of her.

Steve gives a sweeping look around the bar and sighs, "About as exciting as it looks." he jokes. He lifts his glass and takes another sip of his water before jutting it towards Shyva`Nahl, "Been some time since we've had one of those in here." he says, "Guess that's somethin'."

Ehanis frowns. "That's a very spot-on description of it. Even more so with the drama stirred up this year." She picks up her drink. "I'm nothing special, though. Just another merc trying to get by out here in the Terminus."

Shyva'Nahl tilts her head. "Y-You're a mercenary?" she asks, then looks Ehanis over. "T-That explains t-the weapons a-and armour, b-but I c-can't see such a p-pretty woman being a m-merc." She then blinks, realising she may have just insulted Ehanis. "I... I d-didn't m-mean that in a... um... bad way?" she punctuates her sentance with a high pitched whine. Its a good thing she's not paying attention to Steve, or she'd be offended.

Renala smiles at the asari as she takes the glass, "I'm fine, thank you." She looks at Steve with a nod. "I thought it was Fera'Sel for a moment when I got here," she says. "I haven't seen her in a long time."

Steve snaps his fingers and points at Renala, "That was her name! It was on the tip of my tongue." he says, "Yeah. Hard to tell 'em apart all covered up like that."

Ehanis just stares the quarian before she breaks out in laughter. "Goddess: Shyva," she says as the laughter dies down. She downs the remainder of her drink before adding, "I've been turned down for jobs before because I didn't look intimidating enough, though."

Shyva'Nahl blushes furiously, not really finding it funny, more embarrassing. "...s-sorry..." she mumbles, very quietly. She certainly isn't a fan of being laughed at.

Va'ynna nods and makes her way over to another part of the bar to serve a patron that's waving to her.

Renala frowns. "I've almost forgotten about her too," she says. "I can't remember if she said anything about it before disappearing on us."

Steve gives a shrug and leans against the counter. "Think it's just in their nature. They're always on the move. I'm sure she's fine."

Ehanis sighs, patting the quarian's shoulder. "Nothing to be sorry about," she says. "I know you didn't mean anything bad about it."

Shyva'Nahl flinches at first, but quickly calms down. "Y-Yes... n-need to think b-before I speak..." she mumbles. "S-So...y-you're from O-Omega?" she asks.

Renala takes a sip of her beer. "I hope so," she says before appearing a little thoughtful. "Oh, I met Jason here a few days ago.... He said they'll have some jobs for us soon."

Ehanis shakes her head. "Nah," she says. "I grew up in Serrice, and in Nos Astra after my mom landed a good job there. I've been to Omega a lot since I was about sixty, though."

Shyva'Nahl blinks several times. "I... d-don't know where any o-of that is..." she admits. "A-And you're over s-sixty?!"

Steve slams a gauntleted hand against the counter in celebration. "Finally! Shit, Ren, I thought I was gonna die of boredom. Any details on what we'll be doing?"

Shyva'Nahl jumps with a loud squeak as someone slams the bar loudly.

Renala glances towards the quarian's reaction before addressing Steve. "He couldn't tell me anything specific," she says, "aside from a job further down the road that's revenge for the fucked up things on the last job."

Ehanis nods at the quarian. She turns her head sharply towards Steve, as well, but offers no further reaction -- other than an amused grin at as she looks back at Shyva. "Yeah, I wouldn't be here if not," she says. "I'm ninety-four."

Steve puts up a hand apologetically towards the quarian as he realizes he's startled her. "Sorry, sorry." He returns his attention to Renala and nods along as she speaks, "Revenge?" he sighs, "Well, shit... There's never much money in revenge. Hope they're not expecting me to put my life on the line out of the goodness of my heart."

Shyva'Nahl blinks several times after calming down a little. "N-Nintey f-four..." she mumbles. "T-That's... o-older than m-my grandparents..." she looks Ehanis over again. "B-But you d-don't look a d-day over t-twenty f-four..." She then shrugs. "A-Asari. I'll n-never understand y-your p-people."

Money is the least of my concerns with it.

Renala takes a long sip of her beer. "I just think that they must be more resourceful than the agency. Doesn't seem like there's any stopping him, though."

Ehanis raised her eyebrow. "Come on, I look nothing like a twenty-four year old," she says followed by a chuckle.

Shyva'Nahl smirks. "W-Well, you l-look v-very young. M-Maybe as y-young as me." She then points up at her mask. "B-But you m-may never know." Her mask obstructs everything but the quarian's glowing eyes and a little bit of her nose.

Steve shakes his head, "If he wants to get himself killed, that's fine with me. So long as he doesn't drag the rest of us with him." he says. He gives a quick look around the bar to make sure everything is going smoothly, "So what about that last job, anyway?" he asks curiously, not seeming too distraught over the event, "If he's out for blood, then I'm guessing that means he knows what all that was about? He tell you what those things were? Aside from ugly as shit, I mean." he jokes, "Never seen anything like that before."

Ehanis sips her drink. "Cheater," she says. "Well, you're an artist aren't you? Couldn't you draw a picture for me so I can see?"

Shyva'Nahl blinks and looks at her omnitool. "I a-already d-do have a f-few... b-but th-they aren't very good..."

Renala shakes her head. "No idea," she says. "He said he's run into them before, though, and that others have, too. I'm not in on it unless they're certain it's not going to be suicide."

Steve nods in agreement. "And pays well. Very well."

Ehanis raises an eyebrow at first before glancing at the quarian's omni-tool arm. "Oh? Can I see them?"

Shyva'Nahl blinks and looks at her omnitool. "Um... o-okay..." she opens her omnitool and navigates through her folders. She eventually opens up a picture of her without her mask or hood, revealing her to be a gorgeous quarian female with soft features, full lips, and beautiful glowing eyes. Its just a self-portrait but it almost looks like a photo, if not for some tell tale brush lines and ever so slight imperfections in the background.

Renala nods. "I still think it's madness, though," she says. "We're not the biggest bunch of mercs around, either, or the most well-trained."

Ehanis raises both her brows. "What the...," she mutters. "You were joking with me earlier, right? When you said you weren't good at it?"

Hell, we barely made it out of that last one. Some of us didn't! He should just count his blessings and move on.

Shyva'Nahl shakes her head. "I c-could do better..." she mumbles, and points to a few of the imperfections. "Easy m-mistakes to m-make and f-fix. It w-wasn't much of a s-serious peice, I j-just enjoyed d-doing it. U-Usually t-the stuff t-that I s-spend more time on is a l-little better." she closes her omnitool. "But I'm n-not t-that great, really."

Yeah.

Renala sighs. "I have things to live for, I want to see my little one grow up. I can't feel responsible, or obliged to fix every fucked up thing going on in this galaxy just because I know about it."

Ehanis grins. "Nonsense," she says followed by a short laugh. "You say you even can do better than that? Come on, just... be proud of your work." Ehanis is no artist in any way, and may not be the best judge of art.

Shyva'Nahl blushes heavily. "U-Um... t-thank you..." she says with a smile. "N-Not many p-people r-really want to look a-at my art. T-The only people I s-show them a-are my parents, m-most others d-don't even know w-what I do." she says, sounding rather happy. "D-Do you h-have any hobbies?"

Steve nods, "Exactly." he sighs, "Guess we'll just have to wait and see what the score is. Whether or not it's worth it." He begins shuffling his glass of water across the counter idly. "So, how have you been holding up since you got back?" he asks tentatively, "Sounded like that last job took a lot out of ya'."

Ehanis hums thoughtfully. "Nah, can't say I have any," she says. "I found biotic training to be fun as a kid... when I didn't screw it up, that is."

Shyva'Nahl stiffles a giggle, imagining Ehanis as a kid, practicing biotics and watching as a biotic bubble pops, then seeing kid Ehanis pout adorably. "T-There must be Something." she says. "S-Something you e-enjoy to pass the t-time, y'know?"

Renala smiles slgihtly. "I'm fine," she says. "Trying to get a Hahne-Kedar mech fixed up so I can see how what weaknesses the security software have. Would be great to know how to shut them off if someone sicks a bunch of them at us." She pauses, sipping her beer. "That job shaked me up pretty bad, true, but I'll manage."

Steve takes a short sip of his water. "If you-..." he winces uncomfortably as he searches for the right words, "I don't know... Need to talk, or something. You know you can talk to me."

Ehanis nods. "Watching a vid, getting drunk, going out to see the city, going for a walk... and so on," she says. "I wouldn't call any of that a hobby, but it passes the time nicely." Her omni-tool interrupts her before the quarian could respond and she stands up after seeing who's calling, someone she'd labeled 'Mi' in her contact list. "Sorry, Shyva," she says as she stands up. "I gotta take this."

Shyva'Nahl nods and smiles. "P-Perhaps t-those s-sort of activities would be more f-fun with friends, n-no?" she asks with a chuckle. "A-Alright. I'll s-see you later t-then. I have a-applications t-to send off." She stands up and quickly gives Ehanis a little hug before scurrying towards the stairs.

Renala | "I'm fine," she says with a sigh, lowering her voice. "Well, mostly. I still have nightmares now and then, and some trouble sleeping."

Ehanis is surpiced at the hug, but pats the quarian's back before moving over to a booth for herself to take the call; although there's no video feed.

That's probably to be expected after everything. Give it some time, I'm sure shit will go back to normal, ya know?

Renala nods. "Mhm," she says. "It was a lot worse when I just came back, so I'll be fine." She downs the remainder of her glass before asking, "How about you? You were there, too."

Steve waves it off and gives a shake of his head, "I'm fine. I mean, it was fucked up, no doubt about that. But I've seen too much 'fucked up' in my life to let that get to me. More curious about what those things were."

Renala frowns. "I'd be more than happy if that's the last I'll ever see of those creatures."

Steve snorts loudly, "Well, that makes two of us." he says. He tilts his head to the side and raises an eyebrow, "So, what have you been doing since you got back to keep your mind off things?"

I've already mentioned that mech, but I've been working on my other projects, as well.

Renala glances at her glass, considering another, but decides against it. "It may look easy when I just hold up my omni-tool and let it work on a door's lock, but there's a lot of work making sure it succeeds most of the time."

Steve raises an eyebrow, "Well, sure. Must be hard on the knuckles when you're pressing all those buttons." he teases, "Nah... I know how it is. The group I ran with before comin' here had a fair share of techies. My crew had a salarian assigned to us." he recalls with a smirk, "Varrok, was his name. Anyway, I didn't get to know him too well, but he always had his eyes glued to that omni-tool. Tweakin' programs and adjusting things."

Renala chuckles. "I can imagine that," she says. "I'm too used to stationary terminals for that, though, unless I have to use my omni-tool like when-." Speaking of, her omni-tool starts a very familiar notification loop, and she mutes it. "Like when I was trying to get it to work on Alex's omni-tool," she continues before standing up. "Sorry, I've got to get going."

Steve gives a nod. "No need to apologize. Go talk to the little one. I should probably get back to doing absolutely nothing anyways." he sighs.

Renala returns the nod. "Have fun," she teases. "I'll see you around." She lingers for a few seconds before making her way upstairs to her room.

Ehanis is still sitting in a booth for herself, talking into her omni-tool.

Steve watches Renala exit up the stairs before giving Va'ynna a sidelong glance. "You still mad at me?" he asks, smiling brightly as he steps towards the asari with his glass of water in hand.

Va'ynna frowns, typing on a terminal for the time being. "No," she says in a lowered voice, glancing towards him. "It just.... I'm fine."

Steve tilts his head to the side. "Ahhh, c'mon. I'm a nice guy, swear!" he says, putting his hands up, palms outward, "I didn't mean nothin' by what I said." He takes a few more steps towards Va'ynna and leans against the counter beside her, "Cross my heart." he adds, pantomiming his words with his hands.

Va'ynna is quiet for a few seconds while she finishes up her work. "I'm sorry," she says, in a lowered voice. "I shouldn't have... reacted like that."

Steve takes a sip of his water and sets down the glass. "I forgive you. Hurt my feelings a bit that you'd think so poorly of me, but I'll get over it." he says, although whether or not he's genuine is up in the air.

You.... I felt worthless.

Va'ynna looks away. She may or may not have taken him seriously.

Steve lays a hand on the asari's shoulder and gives it a pat. "I didn't mean it like that. Besides, you know that's not true. Aylena pays good money to keep you safe."

Va'ynna brings up a hand to wipe below her right eye, before a small smile creeps up. "You're right," she says. "I'm... sorry."

Steve 's smile widens, "Don't be." he says, "So... I can't help but notice you're always working. When do you find time for yourself?"

Va'ynna ponders the question for a few seconds. "It depends," she says. "D'Inea... has been busy lately, but... I usually have most of the afternoon free if there's no rooms to clean."

Steve shifts in place, putting his weight heavily against the bar counter. "And what do you spend your afternoons doing?" he asks, "Enjoying that crazy Freedom Falls nightlife?" he jokes.

Va'ynna raises her brows. "What? Um, no,... I don't think I would had... I been off in the evening," she says before looking towards the exit. "I don't have... much to do. I was... hoping to finally watch Nekyia Corridor, because I could afford it after a... tip I got for carrying someone's baggage."

Steve nods a few times, "Yeah, you were sayin'... But your viewer broke, right?" he asks with a shrug, "Should stop by my room some time. Could borrow mine." he offers.

Va'ynna smiles slightly. "Are... you sure?" she says. "It's... a long vid, so it may be a week before you see it again, or more. I don't know exactly how long it is."

Steve furrows his brow and nods once, "Of course! It's no problem, really. I barely even use the thing." he says, "Just swing by my room tonight. You know which room I'm in, right?"

Va'ynna nods, and her smile widens as she turns to face him fully. "Thank you," she says. "I think I do, but I could just double-check on the terminal. I can... come by when I get off tomorrow afternoon if that's alright? It may be late when I close up in the kitchen."

Yeah, sure. Whenever, as long as I'm around.

Va'ynna nods, again. "I will," she says. She would hug him, and was about to as her arms were lifted an inch or two, but her insecurities cut that short. "I... really appreciate it."

Steve chuckles to himself. "Don't mention it." he says as he glances towards the door. He lifts his glass of water from the counter as he stands up straight. "Well, I guess I should get back to... 'work'." he sighs, "Try to stay out of trouble." he teases.

Va'ynna raises a brow at first, but can't help but let out a giggle. "I'll do my best," she says. She notices a patron has been waving for her a few times now and makes her way over to him.

Steve makes his way towards the door to his office, glancing back at the asari one more time before disappearing through the door.
