Ehanis is sitting at the bar, almost done eating some kind of wrap. There's a plate and a glass of water on the counter infront of her. The asari is dressed in a short-sleeved modest green shirt, and dark-gray pants that don't sit too tightly on her.
#Miner'sRespite – August 21, 2014
Shyva'Nahl shuffles down the stairs with a content sigh, looking to get a glass of juice before her shift starts. She immediately spots a familiar asari and scoots on over, then sits down beside her. "I know y-you." she says in a sing-songy voice.
Miles looks up to see the sign of Miner's Respite, looks down to his omnitool, looks up again and approaches the entrance, taking the surroundings in.
Miles enters the establishment noting the bar, thinking "seems likely place", looks around gauging the local clientele, wonders if there is a notice board or terminal nearby
The day is still young, so there's not many people around in the Respite. A dark-purple quite tall asari stands behind the bar, not serving anyone at the time. There's no terminals or notice boards inside, but there's screens on the far wall (behind the bar) with the menus and so on.
Ehanis looks over at the quarian, a small smile showing up. "Hey, hey," she says. "How's it going?" She seems a little under the weather, which is to expect.
Shyva'Nahl tilts her head at the asari, crossing one leg over the other as she sits, the tight suit pulled against her supple hips and thighs. "I'm o-okay, b-but are you?" she asks, looking Ehanis over.
Ehanis places her wrap down on her plate. "Yeah, yeah," she says. "Just... may have hit the booze way too hard yesterday. And fast." She glances towards Va'ynna who's out of their earshot. "Good thing she stopped me from having more of it."
The menu is nothing fancy, and contains mostly adaptations of human foods, staying true to its root despite the asari ownership... or maybe just pandering ot the human majority. There's a drinks menu, too, which is a lot more varied, although imported alcohol is a little steeper in price.
Ehanis nods. "It sure was," she says. "I could have taken it slower, though. Batarian ale is like an express ticket to drunk-land."
Shyva'Nahl giggles and nods. "Of c-course. Its w-why I don't d-drink." she says, hoping Va'ynna would get to her soon. "I t-take it you w-weren't drinking alone though?"
Va'ynna looks a little unsure at first, before glancing at a terminal. "Um, we do have that," she says, making her way off to look for the bottle, although it's not one she remembers the location of.
Miles turns around leaning on the bar, awaiting his drink, and taking in the surroundings. He listens to the chatter, and wonders if there is a conventient booth free.
Ehanis nods, again. "Where would be the fun in that?" she says. "Yeah, I was drinking with a friend. A turian merc that needed to get a stick out of her ass, and I knew no better medicine." She moves up a hand to her forehead as she feels the headache.
Shyva'Nahl gives a light giggle and looks up and down the bar. Still no Va'ynna. Soon though! "So, d-did it w-work?" she asks.
Most of the booths are free, even those in the corners. They're large enough to room six people. There's none close enough to be within earshot of the two speaking, though.
Va'ynna returns with the bottle and pours it into a pint-sized glass. "Here," she places it infront of him. "Is there anything else I can get for you?"
Miles turns, looks down, "no" he hesitates in true Salarian fashion and adds belatedly a kindly "thank you".
Ehanis giggles, and nods. "Maybe too well," she says. "I'm hoping we can work together. Maybe that Redrock bunch has room for two of us."
Shyva'Nahl nods and smiles. "I h-hope so." she puts a hand on Ehanis's shoulder and smiles. "I'm h-happy you're m-making friends! A-And its good t-to see you again!"
Miles tilts his head. Looks around and returning to greet the Asari's face says "New in town, time to get acclimatised".
Miles says "Engineer, most Mass Effect drives, Quantum Entanglement Communicators, Drones." he takes out a small spherical device and moves to pick up his drink.
Shyva'Nahl gives an excited hop. "Oh! I f-found a j-job here!" she says. "I'm a-actually on a t-trial right now, but I t-think its going well."
Va'ynna nods. "I've... been there, but I'm not sure if I ever got to aclimitising," she says. "There's, um, an expedition that might need... people like you. I don't really know."
Miles cocks his head, pauses, postures thinking, looks at the device, and back at the Asari. "Details?" he asks nonchalantly, as though expecting a datafile.
Ehanis winds a hand over the quarian's shoulders and gives her a squeeze. "That's great!" she says, moving a hand to cover her forehead as another headache spike occurs at her exclamation. "I hope you get the job when it's over."
Va'ynna taps on the terminal, sending over what little details there are about the ExoGeni expedition to the salarian. She then looks at the small spherical device. "Um, can I... ask what that is?"
Shyva'Nahl nods at the asari and smiles broadly. "Y-Yeah, me too. I'm a-also hoping it w-will give me free r-room and board." she explains, sounding rather excited. "A-And w-with my girlfriend... t-things are looking up!"
Vaden enters the Respite, taking a brief look around before heading up to the bar. He looks at the others, unsure if he's interrupting, and so, remaining silent. He's wearing his usual off-duty outfit, which another salarian might recognize as rather antique in style.
Ehanis smiles. "Good to hear," she says. "What about your girlfriend, doesn't she have a place you can stay at?"
Miles tapping his Omni-tool, says "Will read, response imminent". He then takes his drink and retires within earshot of the bar.
Va'ynna tilts her head, but stays her question as he seems to hide the object. She glances around to see if anyone else needs service, and notices Vaden, and thus makes her way over to him; not aware that the quarian would like to order something as well. "Hey," she says with a tiny smile. "Anything I can get you?"
Shyva'Nahl drums a finger on the bar, then looks up at Va'ynna. "H-Hey Vee. C-can I h-have one of t-those Turian f-fruit juices please?" she asks her new co-worker, then looks at Ehanis. "M-Mhm, n-near here apparently. I h-haven't been there yet."
Vaden is about to place an order when he's interrupted by the quarian, causing him to go quiet again.
Shyva'Nahl tried to catch her attention as she walks past her towards Vaden. She didn't mean to be rude!
Ehanis nods. "You'll always have a couch to crash on at my place, but with the taxi back and forth, it won't be any cheaper."
Shyva'Nahl chuckles and shakes her head at the asari. "Thank y-you, but Zaan has alread a-assured me t-that I c-can stay with her if t-things go south."
Va'ynna nods and heads over to take the bottle, making her way to Shyva with it. "Here," she says. "Sorry, I should have... asked when you got here." She then makes her way over to Vaden again, looking a little embarrased.
Shyva'Nahl blinks and shakes her head. "Oh, its o-okay, I..." she looks at Vaden, realising she'd just interrupted his order. "Oh... Oh! I'm s-sorry, s-sir..." she mumbles, curling up a little.
Ehanis gives the quarian a reassuring squeeze. "I'm glad to hear you're got everything covered," she says with a smile. "I was worried for you when I left." She picks up her wrap and takes another bite of it.
Vaden nods at the quarian with a brief smile before turning to Va'ynna. "Would like some..." His gaze wanders around for a bit, with a thoughtful expression. "...fruit juice?"
Shyva'Nahl looks back to Ehanis and nods. "T-Things... g-got really bad f-for the first few days..."
Va'ynna makes her way over to where the soft drinks and non-alcoholic mixers usually are, and picks out a small bottle of orange juice, and makes her way over to him again and presents it. "Is that... okay?"
Renala enters the Respite, apparently having been out in town rather than upstairs as she's said. She is about to beeline for the bar when she spots the familiar salarian, Vaden, and takes the seat beside him. "What's up?" she asks as she takes the seat beside him. She's dressed in a blue top beneath her typical brown leather jacket.
Ehanis frowns. "I think you told me," she says. "Some shooting, right? Wish I could have been here and kicked their ass!"
Vaden nods at the asari. "Thank you, Va'ynna." He is about to leave the bar when Renala arrives. "Oh. Was about to message you, actually." He glances over his shoulder at the others and then heads towards the nearest booth.
Shyva'Nahl nods. "Y-Yeah, there was a s-shooting outside, t-then I w-was almost mugged..." she mumbles, shaking and pulling herself up into a little ball. "B-But t-then Zaan saved me. S-She's been by m-my side ever since."
Miles shifts slightly to angle away from the people at the bar, tapping on his omni-tool brings up a spherical hologram that unfolds like a flower, Miles begins redefining some parameters.
Renala gets up, as well, not ordering anything. "Sorry, I went out shopping with the kid we picked up," she says. "Some relative of her showed up. She had a funny way of saying thank you."
Ehanis nods. "Yeah, I think you told me about that, too," she says. "She sounds like a great person, though." She hums thoughtfully. "I met my roommate that way, actually, and we've been besties for thirty years."
Shyva'Nahl smiles brightly at the asari. "T-That's a-about Zaan's age." she says, then covers her mas in shock. "P-Please d-don't tell her I said that..." she mumbles then clears her throat. "A-Anyway, she's r-really n-nice and k-kind. S-She's an exile t-though, so I h-haven't told my parents..."
Miles sips on his Thessian Temple, relishing its refreshing taste for a moment, and resumes tapping away, while remaining aware of his surroundings, wonders whether there are any visible electronic surveillance devices in the room.
Renala slips into the booth on the oppsoite seat from Vaden. "Philip found her on that place we raided on the last job," she says. "I have no fucking idea what they've had her there for, but I didn't think of asking her."
There are two cameras watching over this part of the Respite, a very advanced model if the salarian is informed of this tech. They stick out a little from the rest of the interior, but they're not big.
Gregorij comes down the stairs, again without Anna. He makes his way towards the bar, stopping halfway and grabbing hold of a chair to steady himself while he winces, eyes closing.
Ehanis giggles. "I'll keep shut about it, promise," she says. "Exile?" the asari then asks. "What would a nice and kind person do to deserve that?"
Miles recognises the look of worry, turning towards the bartender, he smiles, the hologram vanishes as he raises his hands. He stands finishes his drink and approaches the bar once again.
Renala considers the question for a few seconds. "No idea," she says. "I just know that Philip found her, and that she was snatched from Thessia."
Shyva'Nahl wrings her hands nervously. "S-She... s-she wanted to help b-boost our immunities, b-but she didn't ask her patients' concent." She mumbles, explaining her actions. "H-Her methods d-didn't seem unsafe, b-but I guess it w-was the principle? S-She tells m-me that she's learnt her lesson and I c-can see that she did it f-for the right reasons."
Vaden nods. "Good you found her. Lucky." He glances briefly at the salarian at the bar before looking back to Renala.
Va'ynna glances towards Gregorij during his approach, but returns her gaze to the salarian. Seeing the hologram gone, her shoulders drops a bit as she relaxes again.
"Ships cramped, difficult maintenance positions, experimental drone, non lethal" he smiles. "Fruit juice" he pauses "please".
Gregorij lets go of the chair with a faint groan, starting to move towards the bar once again. He almost shoves his way past Miles, putting both his arms on the counter with his head lowered, causing black hair to fall in front of his face. Both hair and beard is longer than he usually keeps it, giving a rather unkempt impression.
Ehanis frowns. "Isn't a good thing? Helping your immune system?" she says. "I don't know shit about quarian politics, though."
Shyva'Nahl nods and sighs. "It is, b-but not t-telling your p-patients that y-you're injecting t-them with s-stuff is b-bad."
Miles looks at the unkempt man, blinks, returns to the barkeeper and says "something for him" and offers payment.
Renala nods. "It's what I'd want to happen if someone found my Aeyna like that," she says. "Anyway, what was it you wanted to talk about?"
Va'ynna makes a beeline for where she found the drink for the other salarian, and returns with a similar small bottle of orange juice. "This, right?" she places the bottle on the counter before glancing towards Gregorij.
Vaden doesn't seem to keen on actually starting to talk, sipping his glass of juice again, gaze wandering around the bar before settling on the table. "Do... you still think about... the asteroid?"
Miles nods to the bartender. Says "Exo-skeletal suit, excellent idea." picks up his drink with zest and returns to his former seat where he starts working on his inspiration.
Renala is quiet fora few seconds, then nods. "A little," she says. "It makes it hard to sleep, but I can push it aside while keeping busy most of the day."
Miles looks up at the bartender. Sighs, and points to the man that breezed past him. Shrugs and returns to his project. Muttering jovially.
Gregorij stands leaned against the bar in silence for a little while before saying "Vodka." in a weary tone, not looking up. While waiting for the drink he starts fumbling around the many pockets of his jacket, eventually producing a pill bottle. He shakes a few into an unsteady hand and then puts the palm to his mouth, swallowing them.
Miles looks at the scene, wondering in particular if there is an empty booth within earshot of the Salarian.
Va'ynna takes the payment before going off to find the bottle of vodka, returning with it and putting a glass on the counter before Gregorij. She charges the cost of it and the salarian's drink, and keeps what remains under the counter. "The... um, salarian there paid for your drink," she says, gesturing towards Miles. She pours a glass from the bottle and puts it on the counter beside it.
Vaden shifts a bit in his seat and looks up at Renala. "I can't. Constantly reminded." He lifts his stump slightly as his gaze falls again. "When looking down. When trying to open cabinet, type on omni-tool... I am reminded. And I see them. Crawling. Running. Writhing. Boils, tubes, twisted faces... all of it."
Renala frowns, her expression souring as she thinks back to the mission. "Sorry to hear that," she says, "but I understand. I thought... we all thought we had lost you. I'm glad I was wrong, but... it couldn't have been easy for you down there."
Shyva'Nahl nods in confirmation. "I t-think so. T-The admirals didn't s-see kindly on it." She gives a little sigh. "I f-forgive her t-though. It seems her heart w-was in the right place." She looks at Ehanis sucking some juice into her straw. "Um... y-you should p-probably meet her a-and have h-her explain. I m-may have it wrong..."
Gregorij doesn't aknowledge the salarian's actions. After putting the lid back on his pill bottle he stows it away and then simply grabs his glass, sipping it with a grunt.
Miles wonders how many salarians he has seen in Freedom Falls and how many are in the Miner's Respite. As he does so, he keeps his head buried in his latest 'project', picks up his drink and nochalantly moves to the vacant booth that he had identified.
Vaden nods a few times, still looking down. "Should... should be over it by now. But... I can't." He blinks and then sips his drink, seeming a bit shaken just from talking about it.
There's no shame in that. I sought professional help on Thessia after it, but I still have trouble sleeping with lights off.
Va'ynna takes a step back, but keeps quiet as she looks around the bar to see if anyone else want to order anything.
Ehanis nods. "There's many people out here with a spotty past," she says, "So, what else have you been up to?"
Miles takes in the attire of the young Salarian, and attempts do draw deductions, while he sits down in the nearby booth, he returns to his project, and sips on his drink.
Shyva'Nahl sighs and nods in agreement with Ehanis, then shrugs. "N-Not much, really. W-Working, d-drawing, h-hanging out w-with Zaan... nothing i-interesting."
Gregorij moves into the seat left empty by Miles, sipping his drink again. He doesn't lift his gaze.
Renala nods. "Or at least pretended to," she says. "I'm not sure if that really helped, though. I spent time with my little one, every day, and I just... had to put it off my mind since I couldn't tell her about it."
Vaden nods. "I... called home. Afterwards. They... don't believe me. Thought I was making up stories..."
Ehanis giggles. "I'm going to get you drunk one day," she says. "One day." She picks up her food again, and eats the remainder of it.
Renala frowns. "I don't blame them," she says. "I think we would have thought the same if we heard it, if only as wishful thinking."
Shyva'Nahl blushes and shakes her head more. "P-Please don't... Z-Zaan's already t-threatening me w-with it..."
Vaden sits in silence for a while. "Suppose you are right." He says eventually, not adding anything else. He sips his glass of juice without saying anything further.
Renala leans back in her seat. "Just give it time," she says. "When they get your arm fixed up." She raises her brows before adding, "Speaking of, did you have a chat with Jason?"
Vaden seems relieved by the change of subject, nodding. "Yes. He said Redrock will take care of it. You were right about him."
Ehanis moves up a hand and pats her back. "Just messing with you," she says, "but you should at least try it."
Ehanis thinks for a moment. "I met her when I was going to retrieve the bag I left behind," she says. "She was with some secuirty group that wanted to make a name for themselves in town, but that apparently didn't work out and she stayed behind when they packed up and left."
Shyva'Nahl nods slowly. "Mmmhm. Sounds l-like she n-needed that d-drink." she mumbles. "Y-you two going t-to hang out again?"
Vaden nods yet again. "Thank you... for being a friend. I don't have many here." He smiles at the asari.
Ehanis nods. "Probably," she says. "I'm hoping we get a decent merc job together. Though, she has a stick up her ass about drinking with colleagues."
Shyva'Nahl smiles brightly. "W-Well, that's good. M-Maybe she'll make a-an exception b-because y-you were friends first?"
Miles looks at the results of his research on companies needing highly qualified mass effect/communications/drone engineers
Renala returns the smile. "I'm glad you consider me as such, Vaden," she says. "I haven't been that good of a friend to anyone recently, spending almost all day working on my tech projects."
Ehanis snorts. "She's a turian, a real one, they tend to stick to their guns," she says, "but she won't be in charge anymore, so maybe that'll be different."
Shyva'Nahl nods and smiles. "Well, I h-hope you t-two get the job." she says and checks her omnitool. "H-Hey, I h-have to get to work. It w-was nice seeing you again!" she reaches over and wraps her arms aroud Ehanis_Tioran. "D-Don't be a stranger!"
Ehanis returns the hug, giving the quarian a squeeze. "Nice seeing you too!" she says with a grin. "And I won't. I'm getting you drunk someday." She grits her teeth as her headache intensifies a little. "And you're hearing that from someone paying the price for it."
Shyva'Nahl giggles and nods. "Fine. You a-and Z-Zaan can both g-get me drunk s-some day." she says before getting up. "S-See you later!" She toddles off to find her washbucket and equipement ebfore getting to work.
Renala nods. "I'm working on seeing what went wrong when I tried giving a couple mechs a timeout on the last job," she says. "I need to find a way for them to stop listening for any signals afterwards."
Ehanis nods. "See you," she responds in kind before turning back the counter, occasionally sipping the glass of water.
Miles rises from table, turns to the next booth "Maintenance subroutines power down all sensor imputs bar the administrator ID - simple and effective." He turns and wanders off to the bar.
Miles taps on his omnitool and his profile flashes across the Extranet to ExoGeni Personnel department
Miles arrives at the bar, gives the bartender his empty glass, pauses, says "thank you... helpful information".
Renala raises an eyebrow at the other salarian, but he's off to the bar before she can give a response. "I don't think that works," she mutters. "They're pretty easy to remove."
Va'ynna smiles slightly. "I... don't know about the company, though," she says. "I just... um, kept up to date on what's going on."
Vaden looks over his shoulder, confused about the random piece of advice. Upon noticing the leaving salarian he returns his gaze to Renala. "Odd..."
Miles blinks, looks down, and back at the bartender, and says "Information of interest. More eyes better than one pair..."
Miles taps on his Omni tool, and returns his profile back through the channel that he received the information on the ExoGeni corporation.
Renala nods in agreement. "He's been moving around since I got here. Must have trouble sitting still or something like that." She chuckles.
Va'ynna tilts her head. "So, um, what... was the purpose of this thing you had?" she says. "If I may ask."
Vaden smirks. "Not surprised. This place is not very... stimulating." He says, gesturing around the Respite. "Prefer being home with a good book."
Miles takes his helmet, fiddles a little, points to it and then to his head, wondering whether helmets were allowed indoors.
Renala chuckles. "I find being down here relaxing," she says. "My room's a mess right now with the mech I'm fixing up and testing my work on." She pauses and shrugs. "I should probably get around to finding a better place to live. Maybe I could afford to buy a fully functioning one to test it on instead."
Va'ynna nods, although much of this went past her. "Oh... okay," she says. "You shouldn't... have it fly in here, though."
Vaden seems to ponder something for a moment. "Am looking for new roommate." He says, after a bit. "Last one... destroyed my chainmail." He looks a bit sad at the thought of his chainmail torn to pieces.
Miles blinks. Smiles and nods. Raises his hand in a wave, places his helmet on connecting a couple of connectors, a slight start-up whirr of scrubbers and systems and Miles leaves the Inn.
Vaden blinks, apparently not having considered that the mention of a chainmail might seem odd. "Oh. Right. Yes. Own a few replicas. Hobby..."
Renala frowns. "A batarian and a drunk?" she says. "Yeah, definitely not roommate material. Have you looked at places you can afford on your own?"
I've tried looking, too. There's not many places for sale in town that's meant for one person. I've been planning to find a place with Steve, but just never got to it.
Vaden responds. "Steve? He seems-..." The salarian is interrupted by his beeping omni-tool. After reading he lets out a sigh. "Sorry. Have to go." He says before getting out of the booth, leaving a half-empty glass behind as he leaves rather urgently.
Renala nods. "See you around, Vaden," she says with a small smile, before watching him leave. She remains in the booth, however.
