#Miner'sRespite – August 27, 2014

Sioria walks into the bar, wearing her full armour, her rifle collapsing on her back. She takes off her helmet and tilts her head from side to side, feeling the satisfying click in her neck. The turian makes her way towards the bar, keen for a small drink.

Va'ynna is currently tending the bar. She makes her way over to the turian arriving. "Hello," she says. "What can I get you?"

Sioria puts her T-visored helmet down on the bar and takes a seat. "Just a water." she says. "Not drinking anything hard for... ever." she says, shaking her head.

Va'ynna can't help but smirk. She finds a glass of water and starts pouring it. "You two... really had a lot," she says, putting the glass on the counter, "but... you were still asking for more."

Sioria groans, holding her head in her palm as she grabs the water. "Don't remind me..." she mutters. "I'm still feeling it."

Ehanis arrives just outside the front door, stepping out the sky-car taxi after paying the rather costly fare. The asari's dressed in a modest red top with a gray skirt going just below her knees and a purse hanging over her shoulder. Ehanis makes her way into the Respite and closes the distance to the bar in a brisk pace at the sight of the turian. "How are you doing?" she says afte taking a seat beside her. "Some mild asari brandy, please," she orders from Va'ynna before returning her gaze at the turian.

Sioria brings her head off her hand and looks at Ehanis. "Still head-achy, but feeling better after seeing you." she says with a smirk. Corny as fuck, exactly how she intended. "You?"

Ehanis shrugs. "I'm fine," she says. "But I think I'll get a job before I get wasted like that again." She didn't seem too affected by it anymore.

Sioria smirks and sips her water. "Sounds like a plan." she says, looking the asari over. "Any leads on those Redrock guys?"

Va'ynna nods and moves over to get the bottle, returning with it just a few seconds later. She pours a glass. "They... had an attack on their base yesterday," she says. "They may not... recruit new people right now, but... you could probably ask if you run into any of them here."

Sioria perks up at that. "They were? Who by?"

Ehanis frowns. "I saw their place on my way here," she says. "Looked pretty beaten up."

Va'ynna considers it for a bit, then shakes her head. "I... don't know," she says. "No one of them was seriously hurt, though." She pours the other asari's drink and puts it on the counter before her.

Sioria hums. "Guess they aren't looking for replacements." she murmers, sipping her water again. "That's a shame."

Ehanis takes the drink with an appreciative nod. "Maybe it means they need more people to keep their place from getting any more entrances."

Sioria chuckles and looks at Ehanis. "Guess we gotta find some Red Rockers then." she says. "Before they find someone we're better than."

Va'ynna frowns, and makes her way over to serve another patron.

Ehanis nods. "I'm thinking of walking up there later to see if anyone's home," she says. "I don't believe they'll just leave the place alone looking like that."

Sioria frowns a little. "I'd better come with you." she says. "I don't think they'll place nice with someone just walking up right after an attack."

Good point. They seem like the biggest actor in town, so being mistaken for a looter, or the enemy, would be a pretty bad first impression.

Sioria nods. "Yep." she says, then looks at Va'Ynna. "Wonder if she has the details for any of the Red Rock guys that hang out around here.

Ehanis glances towards the bartender. "I guess," she says, "but I doubt she's allowed to give it out."

Sioria hmmms and shakes her head. "Guess not..." she mutters and finishes her drink. "How'd your day go? Yesterday I mean. Take it easy?"

Ehanis shakes her head. "Nope," she says. "I couldn't just sit still, so I went here to get lunch, and had a little chat with another friend." She picks up the drink and takes a little sip. "Then I ran into my sister as I was about to call for a taxi home."

Sioria smiles, sipping her drink. "Sounds like a nice day. Fairly productive." she says. "I spent about all day watching mindless TV."

My sister was angry, though. She didn't know I moved here, and I didn't know she went here to visit someone. I was just laying low in case something from Omega was looking for me. I doubt it, but I wanted to make sure.

Sioria nods in understanding. "I see..." she mutters. "I hope you made it up to her. Made plans to hang out?"

Ehanis nods. "Yeah, I went out for a walk with her," she says. "She don't like that I run with mercs, and have tried to get me out of it ever since she got back into my life."

Sioria nods slowly. "Well, if it's what you like doing, keep doing it." she says. "Your sister won't like it but its not her life. What does she do?"

She's been in the military twice as long as I've lived, then ran with mercs for a short time when she left.

Ehanis takes a sip of her drink. "My time as a merc would be short too if I had the jobs she took," she frowns. "Some of it is horror vid stuff."

Miles steps into the Miner's Respite, and takes his helmet off. He looks around the room, taking in the scene, before he makes his way over to the bar.

Sioria winces a little and shakes her head. "I, uh... I don't wanna know." she says in regards to that last bit. "Never liked horror vids. Can't stand 'em. Doesn't mean I'm not a good fighter though. Adrenaline tends to drown that stuff out."

Miles takes a barstool and sits down

I shouldn't have asked, either. At least I know what to stay the fuck away from. Colonies that drop out of contact or when a squad of elites does, are good red flags.

Ehanis sighs. "At least none of that was to be found on Omega. Jobs there were blunt and to the point for the most part."

Va'ynna walks over to the salarian. "Hey," she says. "What... can I get you today?"

Miles smiles "water, effervescent..." he pauses "please".

Sioria smirks, finishing her water. "So the jist of it is, don't go into the unknown. If the employer is holding something back, don't do it."

Va'ynna nods and walks over to get a small bottle of the same type he had last time. "So, um, how are you?" she places the bottle on the counter before him.

Ehanis shrugs. "I never trusted an employer," she says, "and I expected nothing more than credits on job complete. I've ditched security jobs more than once because the employer lied about who they've pissed of."

Miles cocks his head slightly, and responds "Corrected, exercised, slightly bored, content" he pauses "apologies, the other day, was presumptive, imprudent..." he nibbles on his lip, showing the standard Salarian difficulty at admitting a mistake.

Sioria nods, running her finger along the lip of her glass. "Sounds about right." she says. "Good choice. Hell, I'm sure some people get offered a lot of creds to go against lying employers."

Worse are those that hold onto the pay, but I can't think of anything that unites a bunch of distrusting strangers than that.

Va'ynna frowns. "You... were only going to help him, right?" she says, remembering the salarian running up to him. "But, um, what happened at the table?"

Sioria chuckles. "Withholding pay's a dangerous game to play." she says, then pets her side-arm. "They withhold, you shoot 'em and help yourself." The turian grins, putting her hands back on the bar. "Don't deserve to hang on to it, even in their cold, dead hands."

Miles laughs, "misinterpretation of deduction, gave an idea for a project. Man stumbling, in pain, deduced (incorrectly) man physically incapacitated. Idea, solution, servo-assist exoskeleton. Good project, idle hands, went to work. Completed leg structure in record 6.1942 hours planet standard... Imprudent to test in Bar, wanted to check femur length correct for subject. Servo calibration incorrect, entered as percentage increase of input. Bad idea. Hence, disruption."

Ehanis nods. "Exactly," she says, "but most realize their mistake before it comes to that."

Sioria shrugs. "Sucks to be them." she says with a warm smile. "So, anyway... wanna get some lunch or something? Head to the shooting range?"

Vasquez enters the Respite. She's still wearing her Ariake Tech armor (covered in concrete dust), and is carrying a large duffel bag. The Confetti Maker is on her back. She makes her way up to the bar with a weary look on her face, armor clanking against itself and the bag. Upon reaching the counter she puts he bag down and leans both hands against it.

Va'ynna nods, more than half of it going way over her head. "The table... had no serious damage, but... please do not test things like that in here from now on, okay?" she says. She takes a step to the side and turns towards the new arrival. "Hello,... what can I do for you?"

Miles smiles and nods, he picks up his glass and drinks the contents with relish.

Ehanis looks thoughtful for a short moment. "Maybe lunch later," she says, "but shooting range sounds great. Hopefully I can borrow a gun there."

Sioria pulls out her side-arm and holds it out to Ehanis, grip pointed at her. "Or you could borrow mine. Cheaper." she says.

Vasquez lets out a sigh, taking a moment to just lean against the bar before looking up at Va'ynna. "Well... I need a room, to start with."

Ehanis nods, and takes the gun with a small smile. "Just remind me to give it back," she says before stuffing it into her purse. "Thanks!"

Sioria smirks. "Oh, I will." she says, putting creds on the bar. Her drink was free, but Ehanis' probably wasn't. "Shall we?" she asks, standing up and picking up her T-visored helmet.

Va'ynna nods, and types into a terminal. "You're... the chief for Redrock, right?" she says. "A miss T'Rea told me you would be coming yesterday. I... assume you want a larger room?"

Miles blinks, and looks at the man sitting near him.

Ehanis raises a brow as she overhears the conversation down the bar, and downs her drink. "Yeah, let's get going," she stands up, dropping a credit chit with approximately the amount she owes according to the drink menu.

Vasquez nods. "Yeah... big room. Twin bed. Somewhere defensible. And a secure extranet connection." Her gaze lingers on Va'ynna thoughtfully, but is interrupted by blinking as her tiredness gets the better of her.

Sioria has already put down enough creds to pay for Ehanis' drink. She puts her helmet on then picks up the asari's creds and hands it back to her, before heading to the door. "Drinks are on me." she says through the metalic filters on her helmet.

Ehanis smiles. "Aw, you didn't have to," she takes the credits and put them back in her purse before following the turian out.

"My treat." she says as she leaves, pulling the rifle off her back and letting it extend in her hands. Just in case.

Va'ynna raises a brow. "I, um, don't know about how our... extranet connection works," she says, "but we have had no security breaches on our doors upstairs."

Vasquez scratches the back of her head with a grunt. "Just... ask someone who knows, then. Give me the room for now. I need to get things set up."

Miles turns to the lady sat nearby, and says "Secure extranet connection, quantum encryption, can do"

Va'ynna nods. "You can... talk to D'Inea when she is out here," she says. "She knows about the tech here." She types some more into the terminal. "How many nights would you like to stay here? It's 300 a night, 1,350 for five."

Vasquez lets out a loud sigh upon hearing the prices. She appears to ignore the salarian for now. "Well... my home blew up. So it's probably gonna be a while. Any chance we could talk about a discount?"

Va'ynna glances at the terminal. "That's... not my place to decide," she says, "but I can set you up to pay later and you and Ms D'Inea can figure out something."

Vasquez nods. "Thank you." She looks at the asari for a moment. "Have we met?"

Miles brings up his omnitool and programmes a delay send message, containing his profile to the head of Redrock Agency. He drains his glass, and pays for his purchase.

Miles waves his hand, and makes his way out.

Va'ynna tilts her head. "I... um, have seen you here before," she says reluctantly, "but I don't think we met." She finishes up with the terminal and Vasquez would get the room number and digital key on her omni-tool.

Vasquez looks a bit uncomfortable upon realizing that there's only one time she could be referring to. "Oh. You were-...? Right... didn't come off too great, did?"

Va'ynna nods. "You didn't seem to be well, no," she says, "but you've also had two glasses of batarian ale."

Vasquez nods a few times. "Yeah... there's a reason I don't drink. Normally." She offers an apologetic smile and then grabs her bag, heading off towards the stairs.

Va'ynna returns the smile. "I'll see you," she says as the woman heads off towards the stair, but keeps an eye on her in case she might need help.

Vasquez seems to be managing well enough, heading up the stairs with a tired grunt. Her limp is quite noticable however.

Va'ynna watches her until she's gotten up the stairs, looking a little worried. Another customer signalsfor her, however, taking her attention away from the chief; and she makes her way over to him.
