#RedrockAgency – February 18, 2015
Jason | After a few minutes, a shuttle begins to approach the building. Vasquez would be able to recognize it as their secondary pillaged shuttle. It slowly sets down about thirty yards away, and Jason hops out of it.
Vasquez is sitting on a piece of collapsed concrete that has not yet been removed. She's wearing a plain black t-shirt and a pair of simple pants, her hair not tied into a ponytail for once. Her back is turned to the grounds where the Redrock building used to stand, and she's looking out through the chainlink fence at the mountains upstream. When the shuttle passes over head she glances
Jason takes his time approaching Vasquez, looking over the rubble of their building as he walks. Once he's a few feet behind her, he looks over the serene scene of the mountains. He puts his hands on his hips and takes it all in for a moment. The beautiful sky. The vast expanse of wilderness beyond their plot of land. Seems no better time for him to step up beside Vasquez and say:
Vasquez looks over her shoulder as a faint smile spreads across her face. "That's one way to put it." She hops a bit to the side, gesturing for Jason to take a seat.
Jason plops down beside her on the chunk of concrete and leans against Vasquez. "Nice out here, though. Worth the effort to rebuild." he says. After a moment he sighs, "I was worried about you." he says softly, trying not to come across as too critical.
Jason nods a couple times to himself, a small crooked smile crossing his lips. "Good... Really, that's great. It's nice seeing you out here. Seeing all... this. You work yourself to death most of the time." He sighs once again and kind of gives a shrug, "I guess what I want to say is... You don't have to. You can take a moment to relax. Let some of the burden fall on me once in a
Vasquez ' gaze falls to the ground. She looks rather thoughtful, remaining silent for a while before responding. "Are you sure we should rebuild? Is it worth it? I'm... not sure anymore."
Jason narrows his eyes on Vasquez for a short time as he ponders the question. "I'm not following. What is it you're asking, Linda?"
I just-... we keep failing. Again. And again. And again. I'm sick of getting shot up. Sick of... fighting. Maybe we should just... stop. Leave.
Jason looks a bit taken aback. "I-... I thought this was our dream." he gestures towards the building of rubble, "I mean, I know it's not perfect. But it's ours. And we're not failing. We're struggling, but we're still making it. Rellis is out of our lives. I dealt with him." he says, counting it on a finger as if he's tallying things, "I've already got a team out on a job." he adds,
raising another finger, "You're back on your feet." he raises a third finger, "This..." he looks over at the building, "This is just... Concrete and metal. It can be rebuilt. It's nothing." He goes quiet for a few moments before adding, "But... I want you to be happy. If this isn't what you want. You just say it. You can take a step back from it all. We'll get a piece of land just
outside of Freedom Falls. You can do whatever it is you want to do, I'm behind you a hundred percent. I can handle all-... this." he gestures towards the building once more.
Vasquez graps Jason's hand in hers, and brings it down from his gesturing, to rest between them. She looks at him with a sigh. "Jason, I-... I couldn't just leave all this to you... that's not right. We were going to do this together. Build something lasting." She squeezes his hand and turns her gaze to the snow-capped mountain once more.
Jason bites his lower lip for a few moments, "What would we do?" he asks, not exactly explicit in what he's referring to, "I mean, if not this? What would we do? Where would we go?"
I... don't know. I've spent my whole life fighting, ever since I left Mars... it's what I'm good at. I just wonder... if there's anything else for me.
Jason gives her hand a squeeze and leans over, planting a small kiss on the side of her head. "You don't need to fight anymore, Linda. I can handle this. Find whatever it is you're looking for, and I'll be right beside you the entire way. I just want you to be happy."
Vasquez regains her smile, she looks at him once more, meeting his gaze in silence for a while before wrapping an arm around him giving him a soft kiss. "I love you, Jason. I know I'm a pain sometimes, but... I do. We'll figure this out. I... I have a good feeling about the future."
