#Offworld – August 20, 2015
Ilyna stops beside the car, and gestures for her to climb in. "I'll teach you one day, sweetie," she says, taking the driver's seat.
Li almost immediatly lights up with a smile again, and climbs into the car. She seems quite excited to go back into the air again.
Ilyna returns the smile, and closes the door once the girl is seated. The car ascends a few meters into the air before speeding forward, joining up with the sparse traffic. Ilyna seems a bit deep in thought as she navigates.
Ilyna doesn't fly the car too high up as she proceeds forward. Their destination is almost on the other side of the ring. "It's nice, isn't it?" she says, keeping her eyes on the airspace infront of her. "I only ever knew one person who actually lived here."
Li is pressed against the window, looking down at the buildings and parks below. "You can live here?"
Ilyna nods. "Yes, and some do," she says. "Even if I could... afford it, I would much rather live under a real sky."
Ilyna chuckles. "It's just very convincing," she says. "You remember the arms sticking out of the ring? The sky can't be seen from those."
Li slumps back into her seat. "I don't want to live where there is no sky..." She seems a bit unsettled by the idea.
Ilyna is quiet while she steers the car under one of the hallway bridges that go across the ring. "Me neither," she says. "It took me so long to get used to when I first visited my aunt who lives out on one of those arms."
Ilyna nods. "Space stations?" she says. "Many, but most of them are for people working there, like above a dangerous planet. None of them are this big, though."
Ilyna hums thoughtfully. "The protheans," she says. "They're... a people that was around a very long time ago, long before my kind found this station more than two thousand years ago." She turns the car to the side when a parking lot comes into view, and pilots towards it.
Ilyna frowns. "They were extinct... I mean, gone," she says. "I don't think anyone know what happened to them. This place was empty when the asari found it." The car turns and slows down to a halt before it starts descending onto a parking lot.
Li goes quiet at this information, remaining so for some time before asking: "Do you think they'll be mad people live here when they come back?"
Ilyna nods. "I... suppose so," she says. "I know I would be if I left for a long time and someone just... took my home." She sets the car down on the ground, and opens the doors. "I don't know how long they've been gone, but... it could be thousands, maybe tens of thousands of years. That's a long time."
Ilyna grins, and climbs out of the car. "I'm not," she says. "I don't think anyone can get that old." She walks over to pick up a small travel bag from the back seat of the car.
Li seems a bit disappointed at this. "Oh..." She climbs out of the car, looking around in every direction.
Ilyna closes the car and walks over to an interface beside it. "I'm going to pay for renting the car, and then we're going." She puts down the bag and enables her omni-tool and taps on it. After a second, the interface shows a message and Ilyna shuts off her omni-tool again.
Ilyna smiles slightly as she picks up her bag. "Home," she says. "We have a long two flights ahead of us." She pats her shoulder and starts walking towards the nearest entrance.
