Ilyna enters the rec room, looking for Li. It's the evening of the same day Vasquez told her about the mission, around the time Ilyna usually picks her up to go home. She seems deep in thought.
Li is watching a certain varren documentary, currently describing how their hunting methods adapt to the prey of different worlds. She instantly gains a guilty look on her face as she notices that Ilyna is in the room.
Ilyna sighs, although a tiny smile is tugging at her lips. "Li," she says. "What did I say about that documentary?" She starts walking towards the couch, casting a few glances around for the remote control.
Ilyna sits down on the couch beside her and grabs the remote control. "I think you do know," she says before hitting pause.
Ilyna chuckles. "I don't tell you that you can't watch this to be mean to you," she says. She sighs, and it takes a couple seconds before she speaks again. "Li, there is... something I have to tell you," she continues. "Jason... is going away on a job, and Vasquez asked that I go with him to make sure he doesn't get hurt."
Li immediately gains a worried frown, tilting her head as she looks up at Ilyna. "You're leaving...?"
Ilyna nods, but she doesn't give an immediate verbal response. She doesn't look very happy about it, either.
Ilyna frowns. "I... can't take you with me," she says. "It's a research expedition, which means a long boring travel, and a cramped ship." She pauses. "It only takes fourteen days, though, and then I'll come right back, I promise."
Li does not react very well to Ilyna's phrasing of the time it will take. "Fourteen?! But that's so many!" she exclaims, the worry growing stronger.
Ilyna reaches out and tries to pull Li into a hug. "Space travel takes a long time," she says. "I'm sorry, I... didn't know about this until earlier today."
Li returns the hug, hands grabbing a hold of Ilyna's shirt and refusing to let go. "I don't wanna be alone..."
Ilyna holds her tightly. "You're not going to be alone, sweetie," she says with a smile. "You will be staying here for a few days, where Vasquez and Renala T'Iavay can take care of you, then Ehanis will take you to our place for the rest of the time."
Li lets go of the hug, still looking worried, and curls into a ball, putting her head in Ilyna's lap. This causes her hair to fall all over her face. She tries to blow it out of the way with limited success. "Pfuh! Pfft! Psth!"
Ilyna looks down, trying to move the hair out of the way in a gentle manner. "What about Renala?" she asks. "Have you met her?" Ilyna didn't know, because she rarely saw the matron outside her office.
Ilyna gives a small smile. "I think you'll get along with her," she says, then asks, "Do you know where her office is?"
Ilyna again brushes the hair aside. "From my office, it's left from the crossing and the last door to your left before the hangar," she says. "You know where the hangar is, right? That's the big room with the shuttle."
