Nathan has spent the past few hours, after his quick drink with Renala, in the armoury. A rather unsurprising prospect. He has been meticulously going over each and every gun stashed away in here, tweaking and cleaning if need be. Finally satisfied with his work, he starts to head back towards the rec room. He's dressed in a simple olive green shirt, jeans and

trainers.

Ilyna is still sitting in the couch upstairs, watching what entertainment Li had with her. After making sure it's not about face-melting turians or similarly un-child-friendly content, of course. She hasn't said much, but would have appeared thoughtful when she's failed to hide that fact. Ilyna is, like earlier, wearing a black t-shirt and simple blue jeans.

Li is sitting next to Ilyna, watching an animated movie loosely based on turian bronze age mythology after her first request to watch a documentary about varren was presumably rejected by the asari.

Jason enters the rec room with a case of beer in one hand and a plastic bag filled with snacks in the other. "Oh, hey!" he says as he spots Ilyna and Li. "Thought you two would've headed home by now." He moves over to the table and sets the items atop it. "Asajura game is going to start soon. You sticking around for it?" he asks. He's still dressed as he was earlier. Black fatigues,

boots and a white t-shirt, although he now has a brown jacket on, having been out on a snack-run. He hesitates to remove the jacket, still not entirely comfortable with his new arms, but decides Ilyna has seen enough of them for there to be a point in hiding them. He tosses his jacket on the table and begins to unload the bag.

Nathan steps upstairs, maybe entering a minute or two after Jason. He's about to greet everyone... Until he spots Jason's arms. He pauses mid-step and rather unsubtly stares. "Woah."

Ilyna looks towards Li, and opens her mouth as if to say something. No words come out, however. She is about to turn back to the screen again when the door opens. She looks over her shoulder to see Jason, and a small smile creeps up. "We've already had dinner, and I may have forgotten to keep track of time," she says, before turning her gaze back to the child beside her. "What do you think, Li? Do you want to watch the game with

Jason?"

Li nods enthusiastically. "Yes!" She then immediately furrows her eyebrows. "...what's ajurra?"

Jason glances back as the door gives way to Nathan. He tries to play off his discomfort, choosing to believe Ten is just excited by the beer. "Shit, you're working late, too, huh?" he says before immediately catching himself, eyes going wide, "Shoot!" he corrects with a glance towards Li and Ilyna. "Uhhh... Nice work out there today, Ten."

Li giggles but then goes quiet as she notices Nathan, titling her head as she studies him curiously.

Nathan blinks twice and catches himself. Smooth there, Ten. Smooooth. "Well, gotta keep myself busy," he says. He follows his glance, perking an eyebrow and returning the child's curiousity. "Uh, hi kiddo."

Jason tears the top of the case open and pulls out a beer, giving a glance over to Ten and offering the can. "What's asajura!?" he responds to Li, "Really!? Welllllllll you're in for quite a treat, Li! Asajura is-.... Well, they all kind of-.... The goal of the game is-...." he trails off, poking the can of beer towards Ten a bit more. "You're going to love it, Li." he settles on

with a nod.

Ilyna chuckles. "Hello, Tennhausen," she says with a nod towards the man.

Li waves at Nathan, and then looks at Jason in confusion.

Nathan 's eyes brighten at the sight of free beer. He steps over and graciously accepts the can. He smirks at Ilyna and raises the can in greeting. "Nice. First person who hasn't butchered the pronunciation. But still, call me Ten. Easier for everyone involved." He then looks to Jason, rolling his eyes. "You're not one of those Asajura fanatics too, are you boss?"

Jason furrows his brow as he takes out another beer and waves it in Ilyna's direction. "Fanatics? What're you talking about? Not a fan of the game?"

Nathan shrugs. "No offence intended, of course. I haven't ever really watched it, but one of my squad-mates from back in the day was obsessed with it," he explains, popping the tab and taking a sip of the beer. "He just wouldn't stop talking about it. Asajura this, Asajura that. On and on and- ugh, it drove us nuts."

Ilyna smiles. "No, thank you," she says after a glance in Li's direction.

Ilyna nods to Nathan. "Alright, Ten," she says, not interrupting his conversation with Jason further.

Jason gives a shrug to Ilyna. "Suit yourself. More for me." he says with a grin and pops the top of his beer before taking a quick sip as a bit tries to erupt over the brim due to him waving it around. He quickly slurps at it as it runs over the side and then sets the can down. "Eh, wouldn't call myself a fanatic. Good way to waste a few hours, though." he says as he returns to unloading

the bag of snacks. A couple different bags of chips and a large bag of hard candy. A meal for champions! He grabs the bag of candy and underhands it onto the couch.

Nathan hurms. "...good point. Mind if I join?" He asks, already pulling up a chair near to the couch.

Ilyna leans forward and catches the bag of candy before it hits the couch. "Thank you," she says in a joking tone as she doubts it's for her.

Jason gives Ten a nod as he grabs a bag of chips for himself. "Yeah, make yourself at home." he says while crossing the room. "I read your report on the weaponry. Appreciate you putting in the time to take stock of everything." he continues, plopping down on the couch beside Ilyna. He nudges the asari with his elbow. "Don't be stingey!"

Li wastes no time, digging in to the bag of candy as soon as it is within reach. She grimaces happily upon finding and immediately eating a sour gummy krogan.

Nathan flops into the chair and takes a long content sip. He hums and gives Jason a thumbs up. "No problem, boss. It filled up my time nicely. Though I still need to finish cleaning up a few of the rifles. Those pirates are shi- shoddy at maintenance."

Ilyna didn't offer any resistance to Li, placing the bag between her and the child quickly; a few pieces fall out of the bag. "What?" she says, holding her empty hands out in front of her. "I didn't take anything!"

Jason places a boot up on the coffee table in front of them as he puts his hand out. "Toss me the remote, Li. Asajura time!" he says, clamping his fingers open and closed a few times. "So, how are you liking it here so far, Ten? We get a lot of foot traffic. It's the kind of job that's pretty much a revolving door for our types. People come and go, it just comes with the territory.

Think you'll be sticking around?"

Li grabs the remote, attempting to toss it towards Jason. The toss is far off-course, heading more towards his feet than anything.

Ilyna watches the remote's trajectory, but she doesn't pick it up. She then looks towards Nathan, interested to hear his answer.

Nathan sucks on his lower lip for a few moments in thought. "Gotta admit, you guys seem alright. Most of you know what you're doing and I've already had two missions and I haven't even been here for a month yet." He pauses. "But you guys look rather under equipped, at least before you snagged that ship. No offence, of course. Just what I saw is all."

Jason gives a chuckle. "Close enough." he says as he bends forward and scoops up the remote. He pokes at it as he listens to Nathan, browsing through a few channels before finding the pre-game show. He nods a couple times. "You're not wrong." he agrees, "We hit a bit of a wall not too long ago. Had to sell off most of our non-essential equipment to get this place-..." he gestures

around, "...back up and running. It was just a temporary roadblock, though. We're back on our feet and better than ever." he assures the man, even if it isn't particularly true.

Nathan quirks an eyebrow at Jason for a moment as he listens. He then nods, raising his can slightly. "Well, if that's the case, then you might be interested in expanding your air force~" he chimes with a waggle for his brows. "Or... At least improve it."

Ilyna raises an eyebrow at Jason's report on the agency's situation, but remains quiet about it in front of the employee. She looks towards the screen.

Li continues to scrounge for the best pieces of candy while occasionally glancing up at the screen. Nom!

Jason shrugs a bit. "Quite the opposite, actually. For now, at least. We're just not big enough currently to keep a ship staffed. The weaponry and cargo made the job worth it, but the ship itself is probably going back to Vicky. Maybe a time will come when Redrock can afford to maintain that sort of thing, but we're not there yet." He takes a sip of his beer before holding it between

his knees so he can rip open his bag of chips.

Nathan chuckles lightly. "I wasn't on about the ship. I was actually talking about improving or replacing the Kodiak," he says, taking another sip of his beer. He peers at the screen as he awaits Jason's response.

Jason jumps up in his seat, just barely managing to get a hand on his beer before it falls all over, and casts a glance over the backrest towards the door to make sure Jasper isn't nearby. "Shhhhh!" he shushes the man as he lowers back into his seat, "That old man has hearing like you wouldn't believe. If he catches you talking like that, you'd never hear the end of it."

Ilyna listens to their conversation quietly. She reaches into the bag, and takes a piece, which by chance is the kind Li has taken most of. The asari chuckles at hearing about Jasper.

Nathan chuckles, balancing his can on his leg. Though a hand hovers nearby in case it topples. "I have spoken to him about turning the Kodiak into something more... Deadly." He then pauses, biting slightly on his lower lip. "Buuuut, with a few of the right strings pulled, I may be able to get you in contact with someone who could provide something much more...

Versatile. Please stop me if I'm talking out of bounds, boss." He peers over at the sweets, eyeing them hungrily. "Hey, kid? Mind sending one of those my way?"

Jason gives another shrug of his shoulders, bringing the beer to his lips once more. "Kodiaks are expensive, Ten. Really expensive. We got lucky with Jasper, that man can fix just about anything. Allowed us to refurbish what was, essentially, just a hu-..." He pauses and glances at the door once more, lowering his voice as he describes the shuttle, "A hunk of junk. We can't really

afford a new shuttle. Especially since the old one works just fine. As for a few upgrades? Might be something we could work out. Depends on how much we're talking."

Li shoots a curious glance at Nathan and Jason as they discuss the shuttle. Upon request she crawls over Ilyna, and leans over Jason, to hand a piece of liquorice to Nathan, because yuk.

Ilyna looks down at Li upon noticing she crawling over her, and leans back to not get in the way. She takes a bite of the piece of candy she had previously acquired.

Nathan is about to respond, but instead his attention is drawn to the liquorice being offered to him. "Not a fan of the stuff, huh?" He asks her with a smile. He lowers his voice. "Don't worry, neither am I. But thank you." He offers her a friendly smile and a nod before leaning back and returning his attention to him. After taking the offered sweet, of course. "I

hear you boss. Was just a suggestion is all. If you'd like, I can still keep an ear to the ground for any opportunities. I mean... Imagine having an A-61 Mantis Gunship in your arsenal," he says with a low whistle. He leans back and shrugs. "But yeah, that kinda tech isn't cheap, even second hand."

Jason raises an eyebrow at Li's shenanigans and lets out a short chuckle. "Uh huh. Even more expensive to keep maintained." he responds as his attention returns to the screen. "If you can price out some gear with Jasper to equip the shuttle with and compare it with the prices these 'contacts' of yours can offer? Then maybe we can talk. Until then, I'm afraid all I can say is we're on

a budget and I'm not particularly sure how much that budget can allow for shuttle upgrades."

Nathan holds up a hand and waves it slightly. "Yeah, no problem," he says, not pressing the issue any longer.

Ilyna looks back up at the screen, not having much to say about shuttle upgrades. She casts a glance down at Li, chuckling once she realizes the motivation between Li's choice of candy for Nathan.

Jason glances back at Nathan momentarily. "So. You've already met Ilyna here. Believe she handled your interview? Get around to meeting the rest of the crew yet?"

Yeah. Obviously I met those who went on the previous two missions. Plus a guy called Briggs. He's the one who pointed me to you guys, actually.

Jason raises an eyebrow before nodding a couple of times. "So Briggs sent ya our way..." he says, following an approving 'Hmph'. "Well. You've already shown you're willing to put in the work, so I guess I should thank him. Welcome to Redrock, Ten. Just don't expect it to always be so exciting. The brunt of our work comes from security contracts around town."

Ilyna raises an eyebrow at the mention of Briggs, remaining thoughtful for a moment as she tries to remember whether she has even spoken to that man. She doesn't say anything, though.

Nathan grins and takes a sip of his beer. "Pleasure to be here, boss. And don't worry, I know how this kinda gig works. I'll be able to fill my time up," he says with a slight nod.

Li is busy eating candy, paying little attention to the boring grown-up talk.

Jason goes to respond but a big play is shown from last week's game on the pre-game show and he goes quiet as it plays out, punctuating it with a fist pump and a "WHOOO!" which causes some of his beer to spill. "You see that!?"

Ilyna looks down at the diminishing bag of candy with a worried expression. "Li," she says, lowering her voice, moving a hand to block the opening of the candy bag. "Don't you-" she looks towards Jason's sudden outburst with a raised eyebrow before turning her attention back to Li. "Don't you think you're going a little too fast here?"

Nathan watches the screen and frowns. "I, uh, think so?"

...what's happening exactly?

Li shakes her head, unable to speak due to having stuffed her mouth full of candy.

Jason frowns as he realizes he's the only one enthusiastic about the game. "What do you mean what's happening!?" he says, gesturing towards the screen. "She just-... Scored a g-... Made a point...? Did-.... It was awesome!" he says, clearly not really understanding the game himself either. "It was awesome." he repeats, slightly quieter.

Ilyna gives a sheepish smile to Jason. "Sorry, I, uh, I wasn't looking at the screen," she says. The asari grips the bag and places it between herself and Jason, shifting slightly closer to him so that it's not easy to take back the bag.

Nathan leans slowly towards Jason, giving him a scrutinising look. "...do you know what's happening?" He asks in a soft voice, clearly making this situation more dramatic than needs be.

Jason looks towards Nathan with mouth agape, as if he's wildly offended. "Wha-... Of course! I-... They just-...." He frowns and looks back towards the screen. "You wouldn't understand. It's all really technical.... Ya just gotta watch. You get the hang of it." he says, turning slightly red from being called out.

Li frowns, crossing her arms and sulking.

Nathan 's nose crinkles up, a small victorious look gleaming in his eyes. "Sure~" he sings, leaning back into his seat. "Too technical."

Ilyna chuckles at Jason's reaction, but doesn't comment on it. She places a hand on Li's furthest shoulder. "I think you should take a break," she says.

Jason digs a hand into the candy bag and pops one into his mouth before scooping out a second piece of candy and reaching a hand across the backrest, attempting to bypass Ilyna and drop it on Li. "ANYWAY." he begins, "Where have you been staying in town, Ten?" he asks, hoping to take the focus off of his asajura knowledge.

Li continues to sulk, but is mysteriously cheered up after reaching behind the couch for reasons completely unknown. Hmm.

Ilyna leans back in her seat, resting her head against the backrest in an exaggerated effort to block the covert candy distribution.

Nathan wets his lips before replying. "I rented a small apartment out in the centre of town," he says, clearly not seeing the candy distribution. "Pretty sure I'm being ripped off, but it was all I could find."

Jason gives a few nods. "Probably. But, hell, it's better than nothing. I lived in a cramped hotel room above the Respite while the king's men were putting Humpty Dumpty here back together." he says with a gesture around.

Li leans forward, looking at Jason with wide eyes. "Where does the king live?"

Ilyna chuckles, looking at Jason, curious at how he would answer to that.

Nathan stifles a chuckle, also curious to how Jason will respond.

Jason looks over at Li and tilts his head, as if it's obvious. "Well, right here, duh!" he says, rapping a fingertip against the couch. "King of the castle!" he adds, patting himself on the chest.

Li looks skeptical. "I thought kings had crowns..."

And castles.

Nathan points out.

Jason frowns, looking back and forth between Li and Nathan. "This place is my castle!" he says, "And crowns are for nerds." His frown deepens and he takes out another piece of candy and tosses it at Li playfully for questioning his king-like rule! "No respect!"

Ilyna gives Jason a nudge with her elbow. "If you're king," she begins, "and we're all part of this castle. What does that make us? "

Well, we're clearly his subjects. Ilyna is the advisor, I'm the dashing and handsome knight... And you're the jester!

Nathan points to Li with a grin.

Li frowns. "I don't wanna be a jester..." It's unlikely she even knows what a jester is, but damn it, she doesn't like the sound of it!

Jason leans back, looking thoughtful for a few moments before shrugging. "I'm a just king." he finally says with a shrug, "You can all be whatever the fu-...funk you want. Cept Li. You're a dinnosaur." he says, giving a loud growl.

Nathan rolls his eyes and looks to Ilyna. He chuckles and flicks his eyes at Jason.

Ilyna chuckles. "Is a 'dinnosaur' an animal that lives on Earth?" she asks, pronouncing it the same way as Jason.

Li giggles and makes claws with her hands, viciously attacking Ilyna. "Rawr!"

Nathan snorts. "Yeah, about a billion years ago," he says with a chuckle.

Jason gives Ilyna a bunch of nods. "Mmhmm..." he mumbles through a mouth full of potato chips. He grips the bag in his synthetic hand and thrusts it towards Nathan. "Fiercest of animals!"

Nathan takes the fiercely offered bag, his eyes drawn to the synthetic appendage. He snaps his eyes away, opening the bag and plucking a crisp from it. He appraises it for quality and plops it into his mouth, crunching on it.

Ilyna picks her up, offering almost no warning as she does so, and moves her to her lap. "You're saying I've just caught the rarest of fierce animals?" she says with a laugh.

Jason notices the stare and jerks his hand back, giving Nathan the side-eye. "Yes, it happened out in the field. A job went south..." he says with a sigh, glancing down at his arm,"...So you can stop wondering. Shhhhhcrap happens, right?" He glances over at Ilyna, his smirk returning. "A wild tyranosaurus Li!" he exclaims.

Li laughs loudly and then shows her teeth to Jason, growling.

Nathan offers Jason a sheepish look and an apologetic shrug, deciding to nom on some more crisps.

Ilyna wraps her arms around her, securing the catch. "I think I'll keep this one," she says with a playful smile.

Jason waves Nathan's concerns away. "It's fine. Really." he says in a whisper, his smile growing as he chuckles at Ilyna and Li.

Vasquez enters the rec room, staying in the open doorway as she studies the scene in silence, unable to supress a small smile.

Nathan smirks with a mouthful of crisps, his heart warming at the sight. He looks to Jason and nods, making to nudge him slightly. "Weren't judging, boss," he assures.

Li squirms in Ilyna's grip, letting out another rawr and clawing at Jason.

Jason leans back, dodging and weaving in his seat like a boxer as the tiniest dinnosaur swipes at him. "Too slow!" he taunts as a stream of laughter escapes him.

Ilyna smiles, and hazards a quick kiss to the top of the squirming child's head. "Don't be soo tough," she says, looking at Jason. "She might break free eventually, you know." She hasn't yet noticed Vasquez.

Vasquez ' smile fades not long after it appeared, shifting to a sad and contemplative gaze. After a little while she speaks up. "Jason. I need a word."

Nathan laughs warmly. However, the sudden interruption of a new voice halts him. He turns to look at Vasquez, offering the woman a respectful nod.

Jason continues weaving, sticking his tongue out at Li. He glances over at Vasquez as she makes her appearance known. "The queen has arrived!" he cheers, catching a dinnosaur claw to the side of the head due to the distraction. He winces and makes a goofy face at Li as he takes his beer and stands up. "Yeah, sure. What's up?" he asks as he rounds the couch to approach the woman.

Vasquez nods out of the room and then exits, heading towards their bedroom.

Jason glances back at the screen briefly. "Don't steal all the candy, Li!" he calls back playfully before following Vasquez out. A big smile is on his face as he jogs down the hall to catch up to her. "Game is just about to start. You joining us?"

Li settles down a bit when Jason leaves, cuddling up against Ilyna and looking to the screen.

Nathan hums and pops another crisp into his mouth. "Nice guy. Soft for a merc, though." He shrugs. "Not enough like him in this business if you ask me," he says idly to Ilyna.

Vasquez shakes her head, entering the room. "Busy." She seems about to say something, but glances back into the corridor and changes tracks: "Ilyna is really serious about keeping that kid, huh?"

Jason glances back as well. "Mmhmm. Seems that way." he says, returning his gaze back to Vasquez, "She's a good kid."

Ilyna looks up at Vasquez and nods to her. She glances down at Li for a moment before addressing Nathan "I couldn't think of anyone else I would work for," she says. "He cares about the agency, and all of us who work here. Out here, that must be exceptionally rare. "

Nathan smiles kindly. "Yeah, it is," he admits. "...it is." He fall silent and watches the screen for a few moments.

Vasquez lets out a faint sigh. "She seems to like you."

Jason gives a few nods. "Uhhh, yeah." he says, confused by her apparent disapproval. "What's the matter?"

Vasquez shifts slightly. "She was one of the cultists, Jason... you can't tell me that doesn't concern you a little."

Jason sighs and glances back in the direction of the rec room once more. "It did..." he admits with a sigh, "But she's just a kid, Linda. Trust me. If there was something to worry about, we'd have seen it by now surely." He bites his lower lip as he glances back at Vasquez. "Right? Spend an afternoon around her. You'll see."

Vasquez also glances back from where they came, and after a moment she nods faintly, looking a bit uncomfortable. "I... I should. Yeah." She grimaces slightly, and mutters: "I'm not very good with kids..."

Jason tilts his head to the side, a mock expression of shock. "What!? You're like a-... a fluffy, playful, kind, unicorn! I never would've guessed!"

Vasquez lets out a grunt, and closes her eyes for a moment, taking a breath. "But... that's not what I needed to talk about. Look, Jason..." She shifts her weight and then decides to go take a seat on the edge of the bed.

Jason blinks a couple of times, even further confused. He folds his arms across his chest and slowly lumbers further into the room. "Oooookay then~ So what is this about?" he asks, opting to stand in front of her rather than taking a seat beside her. "The sitting makes me inclined to believe this is bad news... I'm gonna stand to even the vibe out."

We've got a new mission. A big one. Enough credits to give us a big boost... to get new equipment, fund training...

Jason furrows his brow, looking even more confused. "Great..." he says suspiciously, "Sooooo what's the problem? You didn't drag me off and do the whole sit-down thing to tell me we're about to finally be able to afford our bills. What's it gonna cost? Gotta sign over our first born? Don't say my right arm, it's too soon for jokes." he teases with a lopsided grin.

Vasquez shifts again, crossing her hands, arms resting against her knees as she looks up at Jason. "You've seen the news reporting on the joint expedition launching from Aite, right? The... Syranis Foundation/ExoGeni expedition...?"

Jason closes his eyes and lets out a deep breath, already knowing where this is going. "You seriously want to work with ExoGeni again?" he asks, remaining calm but by his tone it should be obvious where he stands on the issue.

Vasquez lets out a sigh, having anticipated this response. "Look, Jason... I know what you're thinking, but... this is a huge opportunity for the Agency. And it's not just ExoGeni Corp. Matriarch Syranis personally asked me if Redrock would take on the job of protecting her researchers. She wants us because we're local."

Great. She wants local. She holds power over the entirety of the militia. Good portion of those folks have lived here their entire lives. That's not local enough? We've been here, what? A year? Why can't she just sacrifice a few of them to whatever dark gods ExoGeni is conjuring up this time? Why does it have to be us?

Vasquez looks a bit frustrated. "They're a militia, Jason. Come on. We're perfect for the job. I worked with ExoGeni for years... yes, we got fucked over. But that doesn't mean the whole corporation is like that. I've been in touch with my old contacts in the company. What Nara did has been condemned internally... I trust my contacts, alright?"

Jason quickly moves over to Vasquez' side and plops down beside her. "You were there, Linda. Malicious intent or flatout incompetence, what happened on the Evening Star pointed both of our lives in a direction that we're still recovering from. Is that really something you're willing to risk again? And so soon after-..." he pauses, subconsciously reaching across and rubbing one

of his hands over his synthetic arm, "...After everything that has happened?" His tone is less of frustration and more of concern.

Vasquez nods insistently. "Yes. This is our big chance. We provide security for the expedition. It's a planetary survey and exploration mission. No shady artifacts, no... no fucking monsters. Just an expedition - of a type I have plenty of experience commanding security for."

Jason rolls his eyes. "Right, because if it was an expedition to find a 'shady artifact' that can produce 'fucking monsters' they would've put up a memo about it, right?" He sighs and shakes his head a few times. "Fuck them. They got a whole lot of people killed. They nearly got us killed." He turns to better face the woman at his side and places a hand on her shoulder as he looks

her dead in the eyes, "This is a bad idea, Linda. A really bad idea. 'Fool me once, shame on them' and all that, right? Right?"

Vasquez sighs heavily, lowering her gaze. "A sociopathic expedition leader got people killed. There's a lot of good people in ExoGeni, Jason. I've met a lot of them. Besides, we'll be there to protect the Matriarch's research team."

Jason goes completely silent for an uncomfortable amount of time as he comes to the realization that this is something that's going to happen whether he likes it or not. "Great." he finally says unenthusiastically, followed by a long, deep sigh. "How long is the trip and when does it begin?" he asks, still quite clearly unhappy with this business venture.

Vasquez looks up at Jason again. "Soon. The ship is expected to arrive the day after tomorrow. The expedition is planned to take about two weeks, including transport." Her annoyance fades into a frown, her voice going softer. "You don't need to come, Jason. Nobody would blame you if you'd rather sit this one out."

Jason shakes his head a bunch of times, his expression softening. "No. It's fine. I've got this. Besides, there's a whole lot of shit going on around here. Someone needs to stick around and sort the paperwork over this whole ship fiasco and you know I'm fucking terrible with that shit." he says, forcing a smile as he glances over at Vasquez. "Just keep everything locked down here

and I'll handle the security detail." he nods, quickly trying to disarm any possibility of Vasquez being on that ship.

Vasquez raises an eyebrow. "I-... I'm going. I have have three years of experience with missions like this, Jason. There's no question, I need to be there. I need to make sure our people are safe."

Jason shakes his head. "Let me handle this one, Linda. You've been through a lot lately. You need to rest. Relax. Take some time off. You were kidnapped by a bunch of terrorists for fuck's sake." he says, letting out a humorless chuckle. "I think I've proven I'm capable of keeping the people I care about safe..." he adds, glancing toward the floor.

Vasquez stands up, putting her hands on her hips with an annoyed grunt. "I'm going. It's not up for debate."

Jason looks up at her, placing his hands on her hips as well, atop her own hands. He tugs her a little bit closer and tilts his head to the side with a saddened smile. "Please, Linda..." he pleads, "You know I'm not going to try and tell you what to do. You want to 'make sure our people are safe'." he repeats her words with a slight shrug. "I get that... Just let me make sure you're

safe. Just this once. I know you're more than capable of taking care of yourself. Hell, you're the most capable person I've ever met. It's terrifying." he continues, another humorless chuckle escaping, "But everything we just went through. I don't-... I want to know you're safe."

Vasquez moves her hand around to intertwine her fingers with Jason's, squeezing his cybernetic hands as she moves them to between them, her gaze falling down briefly before meeting his again. "You think there's anything in the whole damn galaxy that's gonna keep me from seeing things through with you?" A faint smirk tugs at the edge of her mouth, and she she pushes her left hand up along

with his right, showing off the ring on her finger. "You know me better than that... and if you're so worried... come along. I don't really want to spend two weeks without you anyway..." She studies him with an uncommon joy in her eyes, a joy that tends to show up when they speak of their engagement, and it seems to drown out the worries about the mission that she so clearly shares with

him.

Jason lets out a quick snort, his smile growing more genuine as she speaks and his focus turns to the ring on her finger. "Well, shit. Since you put it that way..." he responds with a sigh, raising his shoulders and allowin them to slump back down. "I'm in." he says softly, "I spent enough time without you for one lifetime. If we're doing this, it's going to be together." He goes quiet,

simply staring up at Vasquez.

Vasquez cracks a smile, and lets her right hand slide up Jason's arm until it's on his shoulder. "We're going to be okay. Together." She leans in for a kiss, pressing her lips against his and showing no sign of letting go.

Jason snakes his arms around the woman's waist, leaning into the kiss. "Mmhmm..." he mumbles, suddenly seeming far less interested in debating the specifics of the job. As the kiss breaks, he stands back up and deepens his grasp arounds Vasquez, his arms moving the rest of the way around her waist as he envelopes her completely in a hug.

Vasquez smiles brightly, just standing there for a while and looking at him. Eventually the plants another quick kiss and gently breaks out of the hug. "You go catch that game. I need to start preparations for the mission."
