#Miner'sRespite – November 11, 2016
Yan Sun is lying in bed in light blue top and underwear, covers pulled up as she watches the TV. She seems close to falling asleep. On the screen is some kind of slow paced sci-fi movie that appears to be about a mysterious probe of unknown origin on a path towards Thessia. It's not entirely unusual for Yan Sun to be awake at this hour. She was always a night owl and she's been adapting in part to Jessica's schedule. Still,
Jessica opens the door to their room unannounced. She steps inside dressed in her (stolen) Enforcer hardsuit, sans helmet which is replaced by her beat up old cap, and lets out a deep sigh, happy to be done with another boring shift at the dam. She passes a glance towards the screen, but doesn't bother looking in Yan Sun's direction yet, assuming she's probably fast asleep by now and has just passed out with the TV on again. She
closes the door and starts towards the desk. As she plops down in the seat, she leans over to begin removing her boot and catches sight of Yan Sun. "What are you doing up still, mmm?" she asks.
Yan Sun lets out a drawn out, but quiet yawn as she scoots up into a sitting position, blinking. "Hey... didn't really feel like sleeping yet. How was work? Is the dam still standing?" she asks with a small, tired grin as she grimaces to clear her head.
Jessica gives a tired snicker and shrugs her shoulders, struggling with one of her boots for a moment before finally kicking it off. "For now." she says as she moves on to her other boot. "Is-... Gah..." she grunts as the other boot gives her a bit of trouble, too. "Stupid-..." she mutters as she finally manages to get it off. She sits back in the seat, deciding on taking a moment to rest after the long walk home before moving on
to the rest of her gear. "Is soooooo boring..." she says, looking back to the screen as she attempts to figure out what Yan Sun was watching. "There is not even anybody to ever shoot. Just sit and wait. Sit and wait. Sit and blahblahblah...."
Yan Sun observes Jessica's epic struggle against her boots with an amused look. The current scene in the movie is a drawn-out shot of the droplet-shaped onyx probe travelling through space, barely visible expect in the stars that it block from view. The only sound is a subdued but menacing score. She snickers at the final comment. "Maybe I'll visit again sometime soon... distract you a bit. I know to bring food now!"
Jessica lets the scene on TV play out as she idly rotates back and forth in the seat. She gives a tired snicker to Yan Sun's comment, which is interrupted by a yawn she quickly brings a hand up to suppress. "Mmm. I am never opposed to a little... distraction." she says with a grin as she removes the Predator pistol from her thigh. She sets the safety, removes the thermal clip, and places them both on the desk. A fairly recent
habit. It wasn't too long ago that she would have just chucked the weapon on the desk haphazardly, thermal clip and all with little care for whether or not the safety was engaged. She sets her cap over the gun and climbs to her feet with a grunt. She begins makes short work of her gauntlets, setting them on the desk beside her cap before making her way across the room towards the bathroom door, loosening her armor plating
as she goes. Once she nears the door, she stops and places a hand on the wall, leaning back a bit to watch the screen idly, seemingly too interested to head into the bathroom right away. "What are you watching?" she finally asks, brow furrowed.
Yan Sun glances back at the screen. "Oh. Vacuum Point. It's good." She looks back to Jessica, furrowing her eyebrows. "Did you want to watch? I could pause." The scene switches to a small fleet of asari vessels approaching the mysterious vessel. Only now does it become clear just how massive it is, the asari ships like specks of light against the enveloping darkness of the huge thing, slowly continuing on its path through
space. The asari attempt hailing it, but gain no response, and soon there is talk of attempting other means of communication.
Jessica gives a shake of her head. "No, is fine." she decides plainly, though she remains in place or a moment longer, staring at the screen in silence. Finally with a sigh, she steps back and enters the bathroom. A number of moments pass and the sound of her armor plating clanging against the bathroom floor can be heard through the open door, followed by the sound of her case opening as she puts her things away. The corner of the
bathroom has become the home for her armor crate, tucked away. A few more minutes go by before the sound of the sink faucet is heard briefly, followed by bare feet on the bathroom floor. She reappears dressed in a white tanktop and pajama pants. Despite the progress she has made in feeling comfortable about the way she looks around Yan Sun, she still seems to occasionally cling to the idea of covering up. Or maybe it's
Yan Sun goes back to watching the movie while Jessica changes, although she's only half-paying attention now. When she re-emerges she lowers the volume of the TV, smiling as she turns to look at her. She tilts her head slightly and studies her for a moment, clearly pondering something. Soon she pulls the covers away from the spot next to her to give room for Jessica.
Jessica steps over to the bed and climbs in beside Yan Sun. As soon as she slides her legs under the blankets, she sits with her back against the wall and folds her arms across her stomache, hugging the blankets to get warm as she stares at the screen. "Stupid fucking walk is too looong." she complains. "Is so cold outside it feels like my bones are ice." She grips the blanket somewhat tighter and glances over to Yan Sun, giving
a brief chatter of her teeth for emphasis. "They should give me a car or something. To get back and forth." she decides.
Yan Sun furrows her eyebrows. "I didn't know you had to walk..." she says, scooting closer to Jessica and placing her right hand on the woman's right arm, running it up and down the cold skin while her left hand searches out the hand to grasp. "Brrr... you're freezing!" she exclaims, shuffling the covers around and cuddling up against her to share body heat.
Jessica cocks an eyebrow as Yan Sun snuggles up to her. For a brief moment, she gains a look of discomfort before she seems to realize something. "Oooooh. I get it..." she says, tilting to her side as she reaches across and her hand moves to Yan Sun's side, cold fingertips sliding up under the bottom of her shirt. "This is why you waited up for me, mmm?" she asks, resting her hand just above Yan Sun's hip.
Yan Sun manages to contain her initial instict to jump out of the bed to just squirming as Jessica's ice-cold hand touches her waist. "Gnah!" she exclaims loudly, quickly reaching for Jessica's hand with one of her own and cupping it, moving it from her waist to her chin, warming it between her throat and her own hand. She remains cuddled up to the cold woman, leaning slightly against her with a small smile on her face, quite
obviously more interested in just lying there. On the TV the asari ships are now attempting light-based communication with the dark droplet, with little luck. In fact, the lights don't even seem to illuminate the shadowy shape, as if the material that covers it absorbs all the light without reflecting it.
Jessica snickers at the reaction and, in typical Jessica fashion, sees it as an opportunity to inflict more torment on Yan Sun rather than to cuddle up. She slides her other ice-cube-posing-as-a-hand beneath the blanket and places it just above Yan Sun's knee and gives it a squeeze before wrapping it to the underside of her leg. "What's the matter, mmm?" she teases, "Why you a-... Why are you squirming, kitty cat?"
Yan Sun is less successful in restraining herself this time as she kicks her leg wildly and rolling away from Jessica with a yelp, most likely accidentally swatting fairly hard at her face as she does. She ends up tangled in the bedsheets and slamming into the wall a little bit. "青蛙操的流氓!"
Jessica releases her grip on Yan Sun as she is swatted squarely in the face. "Gah! You fucker!" she cries out as her vision fades in that way it tends to do when you're hit hard in the bridge of your nose, shutting her good eye tightly and bringing a hand up to her face to rub at her nose. "Wha-... Why are you running away, mmm!?" she continues, turning over onto her knees as she crawls after the woman to corner her against the
wall. "Is it because you know I am going to kick your ass!?" she threatens, "You think I am just going to let you get away!? You take the blankets with you!" She sits back on her feet and winces as she looks down at Yan Sun, bringing her hand up once more to rub at her nose with the palm of her hand. "Fuck! That hurt, you idiot!" she says, though there's a faint chuckle among it. "Gah. It made my eyes go black!" she
groans, wiggling her nose and blinking hard for a moment before quietly correcting herself, "...Eye...."
Yan Sun lets out a quick "Sorry!", looking briefly concerned before Jessica's behavior reassures her that she's more or less fine. "I'm not running away!" she exclaims, but the second 'Fuck' causes a quiet snicker. "Sorry..." she repeats, gaining an awkward grin, simultaneously looking amused and a little guilty. She reaches out for Jessica's face with her left hand. On the TV the asari ships are still attempting communication,
all in vain as the music grows more sinister, although with the volume turned down its barely audible over their talk.
Jessica frowns and swats Yan Sun's hand away. "You hit me!" she snaps back. She reaches for the blankets tangled all around Yan Sun and begins pulling at them in an attempt at unraveling them. "And tried to steal all of the covers!" she continues. "Just wait! You are not sorry now, but you will be!" she threatens.
Yan Sun remains in place as Jessica untangles the blankets and reclaims them, only shifting a little to make it easier for her. All the while she continues to look at Jessica, her grin fading into a faint smile as a dozen different thoughts push their way back into her head. She doesn't say anything.
Jessica jerks the blankets away, scrunching them into a wad and pulling them onto her lap to stake her claim. As her gaze rests on Yan Sun once more, her expression shifts into a frown. "Why are you staring at me like that, mmm? You weirdo." she says. She blinks a couple of times and tosses the wadded up blankets at Yan Sun's face.
Yan Sun seems about to offer a response when she gets a wad of blankest thrown in her face. She hisses and swats it away. "Stop it!" she exclaims between laughs. She grabs the gathered blankets for herself and studies Jessica for a moment longer, her smile slowly fading. She seems briefly indecisive, but after a moment she answers the question: "I'm... just happy you've stayed here, with me. I hope you are too." Her tone is
soft, and little hesitant. She continues to look at the woman in front of her, suddenly feeling rather exposed as she waits for her reaction, pulling the ball of blankets a little closer to her chest.
Jessica snickers at Yan Sun's predicament. But once she finishes speaking, Jessica sucks in a deep breath through her nose, giving a roll of her eyes at the implicated question. She places one hand on Yan Sun's leg to keep her balance as she leans forward. "You. Are. Soooo...." she begins, looking from eye-to-eye as she her face nears Yan Sun's. "Stupid!" she suddenly says, giving Yan Sun a slap on the cheek. It's not exactly
a soft slap, but it's not intended to do any damage. She quickly falls back into her original position, sitting back on her feet as laughter spills from her. "Now we are even!" she says, her shoulders bouncing with each laugh. Once her laughter calms down, almost as an afterthought, she adds dismissively: "Yes, yes. I am glad I stayed." She shrugs her shoulders, grin still planted on her face, "I guesssss. Even though
Yan Sun focuses on Jessica's good eye as she leans in closer. The slap catches her completely off-guard, and she winces from the relatively light, but unexpected pain, blinking repeteadly as she tears up a little and brinking a hand up to cover her now rosy cheek. "...ow." she says with a faint sigh, seeming both a little amused and annoyed. Mostly annoyed, at least when Jessica goes into a laughing fit. "It wasn't on
Jessica leans back, tilting her head to the side as she studies Yan Sun with a cocky grin and keeps herself from tipping backwards by propping herself upright with her palms flat against the bed behind her. Most likely just trying to keep out of slapping distance. "Mmmm. Neither was mine!" she insists with another snicker. "My hand slipped." she adds with a dismissive shrug.
Yan Sun folds her legs beneath her as she shifts to sit on them. Her annoyance fades quickly, and her hands drop to her lap, and it looks like she's going to say something, but instead she strikes in one sudden movement. There is no slap, but instead an inescapably tight hug, both arms wrapped around Jessica's back in an instant, one under her left arm and the other over her right shoulder, with her head on the left shoulder,
Jessica nearly falls backwards as Yan Sun shoots forward, eye going wide as she believes she's about to get socked in the jaw. As Yan Sun's arms wrap around her, she scoffs loudly and gives a brief, quick shrug, having to at least make a show of struggling out of the hug. "Gah..." she grunts as she fails to pry free of the vice grip. But it's not long before she returns to gesture, slowly snaking her arms around Yan Sun, her hands
coming to a rest on the woman's back. After a moment, she leans forward, into the hug, pressing her lips against Yan Sun's right shoulder. No sarcastic comment follows. No sounds of annoyance. She simply remains silent and gives Yan Sun a gentle squeeze.
Yan Sun , relieved not to be rebuffed, smiles, her cheek pressed against Jessica's neck. For a while she just remains like that, but then she starts to soften her grip, but then returns the squeeze before lifting her head and saying, quietly into Jessica's ear: "I know this is hard for you, and weird... but I really do like you. A lot. I hope you understand that. It's okay to let your guard down sometimes. It's okay to let
yourself be happy." She plants another soft kiss, on her shoulder this time, lingering a bit as Kirill's words run through her head once again.
Jessica's body goes slightly more rigid as Yan Sun speaks, but she doesn't pull away. She remains silent for a few moments, her right hand slowly climbing up Yan Sun's back until she hooks it over the woman's shoulder blade. She remains like this for a moment, staring at the wall behind Yan Sun, her only response a soft nod as her mind drifts to somewhere else. "...I know, kitty cat." she finally manages in a whisper. It's a
hollow response, devoid of much feeling. The sort of thing said more for the person hearing it than saying it. She leans back slightly to put a small amount of distance between them, craning her neck to look at Yan Sun as a small smirk crosses her lips. She brings one of her hands back around, cupping Yan Sun's chin and tilting her head a bit to look at her cheek where she slapped her. She snickers and slides her hand up
to the reddened cheek, giving it a quick rub with her palm and another soft, playful slap. Her eye moves from her cheek to her lips and she quickly leans in to give Yan Sun a soft peck. "You are so weird."
Yan Sun seems to accept the answer, at least for the moment. She smiles faintly as she looks back at Jessica. The slap causes her to flinch slightly and furrow her eyebrows, but the kiss causes her smile to return, growing wider. Her gaze darts from point to point on Jessica's face. The final comment elicits a quiet giggle. "Well, yeah... of course I am." she says, leaning in for another kiss. Just as soft, but she doesn't
Jessica returns the kiss with a tenderness unfitting her character and her hand returns to Yan Sun's side, sliding around to her back once again to keep her close. The usual aggression she displays seems to have mostly drained away for now. Whether disarmed by something Yan Sun said, or simply due to the long, boring shift and a walk all across town through the snow, however, is unknown.
Yan Sun is not one to question, and seems quite happy with the unusual reaction. Her left hand slides down Jessica's arm, and over to her waist, her right slipping away from her back and up to her cheek, caressing the burned skin gently as she refuses to pull away from the kiss, nor lean in further, cherishing the unexpected tenderness of the moment. On the TV asari flee in terror as darkness descends on Thessia, dark clouds of
