#RedrockAgency – August 14, 2018
The team has only recently returned when Vasquez stomps into the conference room with a less than cheerful look on her face, her eyebrows furrowing as she looks to Mian. The newly acquired datapad sits collapsed in her back pocket.
Mian is asleep when the team returns from their mission, but with the table for a pillow and cuffs behind her back, it cannot be a comfortable rest. There's not much else she can do right now than stare at the wall or sleep. Aside from a comment here and there, and a question about when she's let out, she hasn't done anything.
Tank steps aside as Vasquez approaches, hovering nearby behind Mian. While curious what they found, now's hardly the time to ask.
Vasquez grunts as she notices that Mian is asleep, delivering a kick to the leg of her chair in order to jostle her awake.
Mian jolts awake. "Wh-what?" She doesn't stay groggy and confused for long, as she's used to having to be ready for a fight straight out of bed. That doesn't mean she's happy about being woken up like that. She looks up at Vasquez, groaning, "What do you want?"
Vasquez crosses her arms as she looks down at the asari, frown etched firmly into her face. "Sala Piros. What does that name mean to you?"
Mian looks almost wistful for a moment as she considers the name. "Ehanis told me about her after coming home morning after a night out with some maiden-whelp she met at the Respite," she says. "Dangerous. Strong as fuck biotic. Maybe coming to Freedom Falls. Sounds like a fight I wouldn't want to miss, so I kept a picture around to know what to look for."
Vasquez raises an eyebrow. "A fight you-..." she shakes her head. "Whatever." she sighs, pulling the datapad out of her pocket and expanding it until the display activates. "So you're saying this is yours?" she asks, holding it out in front of Mian.
Mian glares at the datapad, then Vasquez. "Yeah, and I want it back when we're done," she demands before sighing. Mian doesn't see the point in this when it comes to the brat running away, but she has no reason not to keep quiet about it. "Ehanis was supposed to take the disc to you before going to the drell planet," she says, "but big surprise: she forgot. I had enough time to buy that thing and make a copy
Vasquez offers Mian a not-so-friendly smile as she collapses the datapad again. She leans against the conference table as she looks down at the asari. "I couldn't give less of a shit about what you want right now." she says, briefly widening her smile before dropping it. "How about you tell me why it was lying open when my people got to your place?"
Mian shrugs, which looks a bit awkward due to the cuffs. "I didn't bother to close it?" she suggests. "I'm not a fucking salarian, I can't keep track of every little thing."
Vasquez brings a hand up to her temple, rubbing it with a quiet sigh. "And it was open why...?" she asks as she stares at the floor for a moment.
Mian scoffs, staring at Vasquez for a few moments. "I looked at the picture," she says. "Wouldn't want me attacking an innocent because I forgot if there two dots or three on her cheek, do we?"
Vasquez stares Mian down for a moment, not particularly amused. "So you think she's coming here... and you're planning to attack her? Why?"
Mian sighs. "What's with the dumb questions?" she asks. "Of course I am. I'll watch her for a bit to see if it looks like she's about to snatch the people Ehanis said she's looking for." She shrugs again. "I don't need a great reason to fight, I wasn't even with the militia when I fought on your side on the spaceport roof."
Vasquez seems increasingly baffled - and impatient - with Mian. "Your sense of self-preservation could use some work." she says while pushing off from the table and looking over to Tank. "We're keeping her overnight. I'll see about finding someone to relieve you in a few."
Mian grunts. "Don't lecture me on self-preservation," she says. "Ehanis survived on Omega because of me." And maybe vice versa, but that doesn't serve her point.
