#RedrockAgency – January 17, 2019

Vasquez lets out a quiet snicker, briefly pausing her packing. "Sounds like you have it all figured out." she comments. The idea that bringing firearms on their honeymoon might be considered strange doesn't even register to her. She's certainly not leaving her M-4 behind. If there's one thing that the last few years have taught her its that only an idiot thinks that potential threats take the day off just because you do. After

finishing with part of her packing she heads over to grab the pants she left on the couch backrest, starting to step into them.

Jason gives a small, confident shrug of his shoulders, entirely unaware of the essentials he has completely forgotten. Boxers. Socks. Everyday shoes. Hair products. "One of us has to have their shit together, right?" he teases through a dumb grin as he watches Vasquez dress.

Vasquez pulls the the sturdy military-style pants up, buttoning them before looking up at Jason. "Uh-huh..." she says through growing amusement. She watches him for a moment before shaking her head with a smirk, heading over to the dresser to grab the hairdryer there, bending down to let her hair fall before flipping it on, the whine of the motor filling the room and momentarily drowing out any hope of conversation.

Jason remains seated on the backrest of the couch, lopsided smirk remaining. As he watches Vasquez, his mind begins to wander, thoughts shifting to the past few years. To all of the close calls. To the ups and downs (Which consist of far more downs than ups). To their previous conversation about getting out of this life and the sheer terror that accompanied it which hasn't lessened in the days since. But this is the way it's

supposed to be. Getting ready for a trip. Spending time together. Being a normal couple- whatever that means- and living a normal life. Together. She deserves a normal life. He might be a broken mess, but he knows that much. He finds himself just studying her from across the room, dumb smile spread across his face.

Vasquez continues her hairdrying, unaware of Jason's contemplation. Standing tall again, and leaning back, free hand shaking her hair as she tries to get at that stubborn dampness amid the roots. Only as she finishes and turns the machine off does she notice Jason's gaze, a small smile crossing her lips. "Yes?" she says, raising an eyebrow as she puts the hairdryer back on the dresser, turning away for the moment to open the top

drower, looking around the inside for a hairtie.

Jason seems to snap out of his thoughts when Vasquez' attention settles back on him, causing him to give a small shake of his head, smile remaining. "Nothing." he says fondly, shifting against the couch. "What? I can't look at my wife?" he asks, grin growing as he continues to throw that word around just to hear it aloud. "Who I'm married to?" he adds, as if that needed to be clarified.

Vasquez remains turned to toward the dresser, letting out an amused snort as her smile grows. Hearing those words haven't gotten old yet, and it's a good reminder. She grabs a hairtie and pockets it before looking taking her hairbrush, turning back toward Jason as she brushes her hair. "Hasn't really sunk in yet." she admits, lowering the brush as she finishes. "Almost feels like I dreamt the whole wedding. I guess everything that

happened-..." she trails off, a frown crossing her face as her gaze falls away. So much for going 15 minutes without thinking about it. The whiplash of going from the happiest day of her life to a week of helpless, stomach-churning dread. Of sleepless nights spent trying and failing not to wonder if their first night as husband and wife would also be the last. If Jason's last memory of her would be a shouting and a glare.

If the nightmare that had haunted them both since the day they met would finally overtake them. "Sorry." she sighs with a shake of her head, forcing a half-hearted, fragile smile into place. "I think-... I think you're right. It's... gonna be good to have some time for ourselves." she admits, and it's true, despite lingering guilt at taking time off. The thought causes the faint smile to become a bit more genuine, but a

far messier mix of emotions shines through in her eyes. "Make this feel real."

Jason gives a small snicker as she begins to speak. When she trails off and apologizes his gaze lowers and he gives a furrow of his brow, shaking his head to let her know that she has nothing to apologize for. It's not like he's had any easier of a time keeping his mind off of everything that transpired after the wedding. He's just better at hiding it. Better at not letting it show. Or maybe he's just better in drowning it at the

bottom of a bottle. "Yeah..." he agrees softly with her final statement, lifting his head to meet her gaze once more as a soft smile returns to his face. "It-..." he draws in a breath, nodding a couple of times, "...It's gonna be nice."

Vasquez ' energy seems to have been drained a bit, and she walks up to Jason, standing between his legs and putting her hands on his neck, pulling him closer into a half-seated embrace. Just thinking about the past weeks makes her feel the need to get close. To remind herself that he's really there. She doesn't really say anything as she rests her chin on his head, just standing there for a moment.

Jason shifts slightly, widening his stance to keep from sliding off the backrest as he brings his arms around Vasquez in turn, his hands coming together on her lower back. She's usually not the most expressive person, so her getting all touchy feely makes it pretty clear just how much everything has shaken her. A fact that causes some sadness to creep into his smile. He falls silent, merely appreciating the closeness of the

moment. Appreciating the fact that nothing requires his attention. Appreciating that... he's home. "...Guess I should probably get a quick work out in and start getting ready for tomorrow." he eventually says, his reluctance to break the embrace apparent in his voice.

Vasquez pulls back enough to look him over as Jason speaks, remaining where she is. "Sounds like a plan." she says, a faint smile manifesting as she studies his face, thumb running up and down his neck. "I'm gonna finish packing and head down to my office for a bit, give everything another look over. Make sure we're good to go." she says with a nod towards the door, her voice remaining soft despite her shift to practical matters.

She lingers for a moment longer, no more eager to step away, but eventually she does, leaning down for a quick kiss before slipping out of Jason's grasp, starting to tie her hair up as she turns towards the bed.

Jason's smirk returns as Vasquez leans in for a kiss, hands briefly following her body as she pulls away. "Yeah..." he says, continuing to study her as she goes back to work. Strange to consider just how far they've come. From a right hook onboard the Evening Star to... a honeymoon? The thought causes his smirk to widen and he shakes his head to himself, hands moving back to the couch to give himself a little push to climb back to

his feet. The ache that shoots across his ribs goes ignored. It hurts. It's probably gonna keep hurting for a good while. But it's a nice reminder that he's alive. Against all odds, he's alive and back with the woman he loves. Yeah. A little pain is a small price to pay.
