#Miner'sRespite – July 30, 2014

Ehanis is sitting at the bar, reading something on her omni-tool. There is an nearly empty glass of batarian ale on the counter before her. She is wearing a blue top held up by shoulder straps, showing a fair bit of skin below the neck, although not much of a cleavage; and a skirt like yesterday.

Va'ynna is currently tending the bar, although it's a typical slow afternoon. She looks a little tired, though.

Shyva'Nahl shuffles down from above with a little sniff, before making her way over to the bar. She's shaking more than normal, made evident after she sits down at the bar. "A-Afternoon..." she mumbles to Ehanis

Ehanis looks over at the quarian sitting beside her with a tiny smile, although it fades shortly after. "What's wrong?" she says, noting the mumble and the quarian shaking like she misadjusted the cooling in her suit. She switches off her omni-tool's projection.

Shyva'Nahl lets out a long sigh. "A-Another panic attack..." she mumbles, feeling pained to admit it. "T-They've... become f-frequent..."

Ehanis frowns, patting the quarian's shoulder. "I told you to focus on getting a job," she says, "not worry about not getting one in time."

Shyva'Nahl jumps at the touch, not expecting it, but quickly calms. "I d-did. I've s-sent fifty a-applications s-since I g-got here." She looks at Ehanis and sighs. "I w-was panicking a-about my f-family. I m-miss them."

Ehanis can't help but grin at the reaction her pat had, before it fades with a sigh. "They don't let you call home?" she asks. "That's... weird."

Shyva'Nahl shakes her head. "T-There's no problem w-with calling, but its the d-distance of the fleet to any c-com bouys that's the problem." she says, letting out another sigh. "I c-couldn't get any p-pings from the f-fleet from any b-bouys."

Ehanis thinks for a moment. "Maybe they were traveling between systems?" she says. "Or just standing out of range... or something." She picks up her drink and sips the remainder of it.

Shyva'Nahl rests her elbows on the bar and takes a deep breath before shaking her head. "Its n-not that I'm w-worried about an a-attack. The Quarian f-fleet is the biggest in t-the universe, t-they're bound to be safe. I j-just miss my p-parents is all." She lowers her head into her open hands and winces. "I'm s-so pathetic..."

Ehanis pats the quarian's back. "Aww," she begins. "That's not pathetic. They probably miss you, too." She glances at her glass, considering another, but decides against it.

Shyva'Nahl takes another deep breath and chokes back a sob. "I t-think I need a hug..." she mumbles with a sniff.

Ehanis hums thoughtfully. "I... may have one I can spare," she says, putting the empty glass down and turning towards the quarian. A small smile creeps up.

Shyva'Nahl grabs Ehanis and hugs her tightly. Her mic is muted, but her body language easily shows off a few sobs as she holds the asari. She definitely needed the hug.

Ehanis winds her arms around Shyva, sighing. "It'll all be fine," she murmurs, rubbing the quarian's back a little. For a brief moment, uncertainty colors her facial expression -- as if she's silently asking 'what have I gotten myself into?' --, but the quarian will not be able to see that.

Shyva'Nahl soon breaks the hug and sniffs. "T-Thank you." she mumbles, leaning on the bar again. "I n-needed that. Y-You're a good friend."

Ehanis smiles at the quarian, patting her shoulder once more. "So, have you been outside yet?" she asks, trying to change the subject.

Shyva'Nahl sheepishly shakes her head. "N-No, I've b-been so focused on g-getting a job..."

Ehanis grins. "You really should," she says. "Since it sounds like you've applied everywhere by now."

Just go directly to the street I talked about, and you should be safe.

Shyva'Nahl looks at the door and begins shaking again. "A-Are you sure?" she asks, her voice shaking.

Ehanis nods. "I've been around the Terminus," she says, "even to Omega. I can't guarantee everyone walking them are good people, but I know an unsafe street when I see one. Besides, the stores have security."

Shyva'Nahl nods slowly. "I... m-might take a look..." she murmers, looking back at Ehanis. "W-Will you g-give me a tour m-maybe? I mean, its o-okay if you're busy and all..."

I usually go out once or twice a day, anyway, so I can come by your room some morning and ask if you'll come with me.

Ehanis smiles. "I'd be lying if I said I was busy. I still don't have a job."

Shyva'Nahl nods with a happy smile. "T-Things are b-better with f-friends, right?" she asks.

Ehanis hums thoughtfully. "That depends," she says. "If you're to a catch a vid, go out to eat or have a few drinks, sure. But if you're out to buy stuff, then it's best to bring like-minded people... or patient ones." She chuckles.

Shyva'Nahl nods slowly, learning all sorts of new things. "Ooh, o-okay. W-Well, I'm a p-patient k-kind of girl." she says with a smile. "At l-least, for s-stuff that's n-not extremely important."

Ehanis grins. "We'll see about that," she says in a joking tone. "At least you're not a salarian, going out shopping with one of them can be... testing."

Shyva'Nahl tilts her head at the asari. "I've n-never met a Salarian before." she says, then smiles. "I t-take it they're v-very impatient?"

Ehanis nods. "And with good reason," she says. "They're fast thinkers, but they're also short-lived." She smiles sheepishly before adding, "and, well, we can sometimes act like we have all the time in the world."

Shyva'Nahl prods Ehanis's shoulder. "W-Well, y-you do. A-Asari live to a thousand, d-don't they?" she asks with a giggle. "H-How long do S-Salarians live?"

Ehanis | "Around forty years," she begins. "And yes, we can live past the thousand-year-mark, but none of us take it for granted. Well, maybe those who play it safe and stay in Council Space."

Shyva'Nahl blinks and hums. "I l-live twice a-as long as a Salarian t-then." she says. "b-But I c-can't say I'm jealous of a-asari. A t-thousand years t-to do what you want..."

Ehanis frowns. "There's disadvantages of it, too," she says. "Namely most of you not living as long." Her tone didn't impy she took it too heavily.

Shyva'Nahl nods slowly. "Mmm... lose f-friends in t-the blink of a-an eye?"

Ehanis shrugs. "No, not like that," she says. "We just don't really think that far into the future about people. What's the point in worrying about the end of things, anyawy?"

Shyva'Nahl tilts her head from side to side, considering this. "I s-suppose that's a g-good way of l-looking at it..." she mutters. "T-Though for u-us its f-fairly straight f-forward. 'Born on the s-ship, wo-work on the ship, d-die on the ship."

Ehanis nods. "I'm a merc, so I can't really worry about what I'll do in my matron years, let alone the matriarch years," she says. "Well, unless I survive until I'm three-hundred."

Shyva'Nahl smiles and puts a hand on Ehanis' shoulder. "I'm s-sure you'll l-live p-past three-hundred."

Damien walks into the inn, donned in his casual gear. He pulls the collar up around his neck and takes a seat in a free booth, rubbing the stubble on his chin.

Ehanis shrugs, again. "That's two-hundred years from now," she says. "A long time, even for us, and especially out here."

Shyva'Nahl nods, pulling her hand back. "Y-Yes, I'll b-be long g-gone by then." she says with a bit of a sigh. "S-Still, e-eighty to a h-hundred years is a l-long time."

Damien taps on his omni-tool, quietly listening to the near by conversation.

Va'ynna notices Damien, and recognizes him by the time he takes a seat, but she remains where she. Respite generally doesn't offer table service unless one from a group asks for it.

Damien flips through some settings absentmindedly. He powers it down and looks around the inn, eyes resting on Va'ynna. He smiles and gives her a small wave, before standing up and moving over to the counter. "Hey," he says, still smiling.

Ehanis nods. "Certainly is," she says. "I don't worry about it, though, as I said."

Shyva'Nahl nods, then looks out the door again. "S-So what k-kind of stores a-are on that street you m-mentioned?" she looks herself over. "I'm n-not sure I'd g-get much use out o-of a clothes store..."

Va'ynna steps towards the counter. "Hey, Monroe," she says, returning the smile. "Would you like a beer today... too?"

Damien shakes his head. "No thanks, just a water."

Ehanis can't help but giggle. "I can get carried away in one," she says, "so I can try to walk past them when I'm with you."

Others? I think I summed it up yesterday. There's what you'll need, mostly. Electronics, clothes, drinks, food, groceries..., and other things.

Va'ynna nods and pours water from the tap within her reach into a glass before placing it before him. "So, um, how are you?"

Shyva'Nahl nods. "Electonics m-might interest me, b-but d-don't worry about s-skipping stores. I k-kind of l-like learning a-about other c-cultures. W-Why not see a-asari fashion?"

Damien nods his thanks and sips it before answering. "I'm good, thanks for asking. How about you? Enjoyed your vid-thing?"

Va'ynna nods. "Mhm," she says. "I still have much left, but... I should probably have... quit earlier." She looks a little embarrased, and a bit tired.

Ehanis hums thoughtfully. "There's a little of everything there," she says, "which I expect on a world like this. Moslty human fashion, it seems. I'm thinking of getting something with shields to be safe, but that tends to cost."

Damien chuckles, tapping the side of his glass. "At least you didn't watch the whole thing. Doubt you would've been in otherwise."

Shyva'Nahl nods vigerously. "Y-Yes, shields, d-definitely. D-Don't want to catch a s-stray thermal hit."

Va'ynna nods, a grin visible for a moment. "Yeah, I would... probably have passed out," she says. "So, um, have you... gotten a job with Redrock?"

Damien shakes his head, a slightly disheartened look crossing his features. "Not yet," he says. "I'll give it another day to see if my application is approved. If not, I'll head over there and enquire in person."

Ehanis chuckles at the quarian's reaction, but her omni-tool interrupts her before she can respond. After looking at the caller, she mutes the notification and turns back to the quarian. "I thought I'd just use it to get a heads up in case there's a shootout," she says. "I'd really stand out if I went out in full combat gear here." She stands up and sighs. "I've got to take this," she says. "I'll see you around!"

Shyva'Nahl nods and gets up too. "O-Okay. I'll s-see you t-tomorrow." and with that she smiles at the asari before scooting back upstairs.

Va'ynna moves up a hand to cover her mouth, a little ashamed to find it amusing. "Sounds like... Jason," she says. "I've heard... he's not good at answering his... messages quickly."

Ehanis watches the quarian leave before making her way over to a booth out of the bar's earshot to take the call.

Damien shrugs, taking a large gulp of his drink. "Eh, could be worse. Though if I don't get in, I'll have to start thinking about other lines of employment."

Va'ynna nods. "I didn't have... much luck when I looked for jobs after getting here," she says, "but... I'm not qualified for much."

Ahh, c'mon. I'm sure you have some skills other than bartending. I mean, didn't you originally aim on joining Redrock?

Va'ynna nods, again. "He offered to let me work... as a receptionist," she says. "I... don't think I'd be able to, but... he must have thought so." She glances around in case anyone's waving for her.

Huh. Didn't like the idea of it?

I would be taking calls..., and talking on behalf of a company.. offering a service I don't know anything about.

Touché.

Damien sips at his water, setting the glass down on the counter. "So you took bartending instead."

Va'ynna looks down for a moment. "Mhm," she mutters before looking up. "D'Inea... offered me a job here when she... took over, and was patient with me."

Patient? Others aren't?

I... wasn't qualified to do the job here, at all.

Va'ynna looks a little unsure. "I don't... know about others out here, but I haven't worked at a bar before."

Ah. Fair enough. Well, if it means anything, I think you do a great job.

Damien smiles.

Va'ynna returns the smile. "It... means a lot to hear," she says. "I... prefer to work in the kitchen, though, which I do most nights."

Jesus, you seem to rarely stop working.

Damien chuckles, finishing off his drink.

Va'ynna tilts her head, at first. "Um, who's Jesus?" she asks before answering the question, "Mhm, I... usually have all afternoon off, but D'Inea has been busy lately."

Damien arches his brow and shakes his head. "Don't worry about it." He taps the counter for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, I remember you saying. Why doesn't she get more help?"

Va'ynna looks down for a moment, thinking. "She... said she has more pressing matters," she says. "I don't know... much about the management here, even if I talk with her every day."

Damien nods slowly, though he frowns slightly. "Still... You shouldn't be overworked."

No, but... I'll do what I have to do.

Va'ynna frowns. "I can't just... leave."

I never suggested it. Still, you shouldn't be left to handle pretty much everything. I mean, fuck, where the hell is the guy who is supposed to guard this place?

Va'ynna glances towards the doorway. "He's... in his office," she says. "It has video feeds of the bar, so he'll come out if he's needed."

Hmm... fair enough. Sorry.

Va'ynna frowns. "Don't... worry about me," she says. "I... wouldn't have gone outside, anyway, and I... don't really have much to occupy my free time with."

Damien nods lightly, resting his elbows on the counter. "Well, except watch abysmally long vids." He smirks.

Va'ynna nods. "Yeah, that," she says with a small smile. "At least... I don't need to find a new vid often."

Damien chuckles. "Well, don't you have friends to go out with? Well, besides Jason."

Va'ynna closes her eyes for a moment, considering it before looking back at him. "Yes, but I barely see them anymore," she says, sounding a little saddened. "Jason hasn't been himself since that last job, and he's not been here often."

Sorry to hear that.

Damien gives an apologetic shrug.

I'm fine... I'm too, uh, afraid to go outside anyway,

Damien frowns, slightly intrigued. "Why?"

Va'ynna sighs. "I... don't feel safe outside," she says, "after I was... almost shot in here. I, uh, feel safer in here with security around."

Damien looks down at the counter, rubbing his arm. "Shit, what happened?"

Va'ynna looks towards the exit, seeming distant for a few seconds as she remembers every detail of the encounter. "Someone who's... been in here very often just got up and...," she takes a deep breath, "she aimed her pistol at me and... fired. Someone after her life distracted her, so she...," deep breath, "missed just barely." She closes her eyes and wipes the small tear build-up as the memories were overwhelming to her. "Sorry," she mutters.

Damien looks up, a concerned frown creasing his brow. He seems unsure of what to do, so he simply leans over and lightly touches her shoulder, smiling faintly. "No worries, okay?" He removes his hand, placing it back on the counter.

Va'ynna nods slightly, taking a deep breath. "Yeah," she says. "It's... been half a year now. I know it's... pathetic, but I'm just.... I just don't have it in me to go outside on my own."

Hey, some things are hard to get over. You'll do it eventually.

I hope so.

Va'ynna notices another patron signaling for her and she makes her way to serve him. After pouring a glass of beer, she returns back to where Damien is.

You will. I'm sure of it.

Jason enters the Respite with a little more pep in his step than the previous few visits. He's back in his blue-and-white hardsuit with a Phalanx holstered on his right thigh. As he approaches the bar, he raises an arm and gives Va'ynna a slight wave. "Evening, V." he says, plopping down on a stool beside the stranger she's speaking to, "The usual."

Damien looks to the man, arching an eyebrow breifly. He turns back to his glass, falling quiet.

Va'ynna nods. "I have to," she says, but before she continues, she notices Jason approaching the bar; and a small smile creeps up. "Hey Jason," she says before making her way off to find the bottles.

So... you're Jason.

Jason raises an eyebrow as he examines the man beside him. "I am." he says with a hint of curiosity in his voice, "And you are?"

Damien speaks without turning, simply turning the empty glass in his hands. "Monroe. Damien Monroe. I sent an application to Redrock."

Va'ynna returns with the two bottles a moment later, and mixes the drink in a glass filled with ice. She smiles slightly, but keeps quiet as she places the glass on the counter before him.

Jason smiles slightly and extends a hand towards the man. "Nice to meet you, Damien." he says, "How's that working out for you? Hear anything back yet?"

Damien turns and politely shakes Jason's hand, but shakes his head. "'Fraid not. Not a damn peep."

Jason winces slightly as he withdraws his hand. "Don't... Uhh-... Don't take it personally." he says as he reaches for his drink, "We've got a lot on our plate right now. Vasquez-... the person in charge of hiring new employees wears a whole lot of hats. She handles just about all of our major day-to-day business. I'm sure she probably just hasn't gotten around to it yet." He takes a generous sip of his drink and gives Va'ynna a satisfied nod. "What sort of position are you interested in, anyway?"

Damien ponders for a moment, before answering. "Well, I specialise in offensive combat engineering. So something along those lines."

Jason nods a couple times as he listens to Damien. "I'm operating on an empty stomach, V. How about some chips or something?" he requests before turning back to Damien. "Combat engineer..." he repeats, moreso to inform the man that he was actually listening, "I take it you can handle a weapon? Any sort of formal training? Ex-military?" he asks.

Damien reaches into his jacket and sets down his M-6 Carnifex. On the side is engraved a small symbol, the insignia of the Bluesuns. "Mercenary groups. This," he says, tapping the insignia. "Being the main one."

Va'ynna nods. "Right away," she says as she walks a bit down the bar. She crouches and picks out a 100g-ish bag of salted chips from a shelf low on the counter. When the asari is about to return, the pistol catches her eyes and she stays where she is.

Damien inwardly curses himself and snatches the pistol, sliding it back in.

Jason bites his lower lip as he eyes the insignia. "Blue Suns." he says, stating the obvious with a sigh, "Can't say I'm the biggest fan. Had my fair share of run-ins with 'em." he admits. A small smile creeps up as he recalls a particular quarian, but it quickly disappears, "Guess we've all got a past, though. So long as you don't come with any extra baggage, it shouldn't be an issue."

Damien nods, casting a quick look at Va'ynna, then back to Jason. "None that will cause problems. And my days of the suns are behind me," he says. "Omega was... not too much fun in some regards."

Va'ynna smiles sheepishly as she makes her way over to them and places the bag on the counter by Jason. "That's... what you asked for, right?" she says. "Not the side dish, I mean."

Jason begins to respond to Damien as Va'ynna returns. He faces her with a smile and scoops up the bag. "On point as always, V." he says. He tears the bag open as he gives Damien a nod. "Omega can be a tough place to get by. Has its own set of rules." he says, "But it's not all bad. Met some good people there. Some lifelong friends."

Damien smiles faintly as some memories take place in his mind. "Yeah, me too." He shakes his head slightly and refocuses on the now. "But my time there has come to a close for now."

Va'ynna smiles slightly, but she keeps out of their conversation.

Jason nods in agreement, "I hear that." He glances up towards Va'ynna once again, his smile widening, "Plenty of good people here, too." He pops a chip into his mouth before continuing, chewing as he speaks without giving it too much thought, "Like V here. Galaxy-renowned bartender extraordinaire." he teases playfully.

Damien looks at Va'ynna, smiling lightly. "Yeah. Good people. Well, person so far. She's the only one to talk to me really."

Va'ynna blushes, barely visible given her skin color. "I... I... I'm not-," she says. "Uh, I mean, thank you." She looks a little embarrased.

Jason chuckles to himself. "One day I'm gonna steal her away from Aylena, though. Get her working for Redrock." He raises an eyebrow in thought for a moment, "Wonder how that'd go over with Vasquez?" he ponders out loud, "Official Redrock bartender..." he says with a smirk.

Damien quietly waits, simply looking at Jason with a raised eyebrow.

Va'ynna brings up a hand to cover her mouth as she stifles a giggle, looking a little amused. "Uh..., you have a bar there?" she asks with a tilted head.

Jason rolls his shoulders, giving a slight shrug. "What constitutes as a bar, really? I've got a desk full of booze. You sit on the other side of that desk pouring me drinks all day and bam," he claps his gauntlets together, "insta-bar."

Va'ynna raises an eyebrow at first, but she couldn't help but laugh as she envisioned the idea. "Um, but... what about when you're working?"

Jason snorts loudly, "I'm touched, V. You actually think I get work done." he jokes. He turns back to Damien with a smirk still plastered to his face, "I'll mention the application to my better half. We're pretty shorthanded at the moment, so I'm sure she'll want to get in touch with you. Should have a few jobs coming up soon, too. So your timing couldn't have been better."

Damien bows his head slightly, a small smile creeping on his face. "Good to hear. I'm starting to run low on credits and would rather not lose my room here."

Va'ynna brings up a hand to scratch the back of her neck. "Oh," she says in response to his joke, possibly taking him seriously. Seeing another patron signal for her, she makes her way down the bar.

Jason tosses another chip into his mouth and glances down towards the customer signalling Va'ynna. "So how long have you been in town?" he asks, attempting to both make idle chit-chat and learn a bit more about a potential co-worker.

Damien rubs his chin in thought. "A week or two now. Been exploring really and getting my armour sorted."

Jason looks away from Va'ynna and nods to himself. "Any specific reason?" he asks, "I mean-... Why here? Kind of a backwater place in the ass-end of the galaxy." he says with a smirk.

Va'ynna exchanges a few words with the turian patron before picking out a tray and making her way off to find a bottle. She returns a bit later with it and puts it on the tray before getting to the other orders he had.

Shit man... a series of unfortunate events and bad judgements.

Damien laughs loudly, shaking his head.

Jason puts up one hand and gives it a shake, "Say no more. I'm not gonna pry." he says, "Freedom Falls isn't the worst place you could've ran off to. It's pretty quiet out here, all things considered. Quieter than the rest of this planet, that's for sure."

Damien nods his thanks. "Appreciated," he says. "So, if it's quiet, why do you need a mercenary group?"

Va'ynna pours three glasses of beer and places it on the tray, which the turian brings to the table where a few other militiamen sit. Va'ynna glances around before making her way over to where Jason and Damien is, but she keeps quiet to not interrupt them.

Jason smiles and tilts his head to the side. "Haven't done your research, have ya?" he asks with a bit of a chuckle, "Aite has been in turmoil for quite some time now. There's more than enough work for an organization like ours. But this town-..." he arbitrarily taps a gauntleted hand against the counter, "...seems to have dodged most of the power-struggle that's going on out there. We also provide standard day-to-day security for a few places around town. Nothing fancy, but it never hurts to have an armed presence around in case the 'wrong element' finds its way into town."

Damien frowns for a fraction of a second, before moving to his more neutral face. "Fair enough. As I said, I haven't been here long and haven't really left this area."

Jason pops another chip into his mouth and crunches loudly. He swallows hard as he turns his attention towards Va'ynna. "What time are you getting out of here tonight, V?" he asks.

Um..., an hour before midnight, unless D'Inea let me leave early today, too.

Jason sighs, "Damn... What about tomorr-..." he pauses for a moment and furrows his brow, "Do you actually get days off!?"

Va'ynna shakes her head, lowering it for a moment. "I... don't," she says. "I... I could ask D'Inea."

Damien frowns.

Jason stares at Va'ynna for a few seconds before shaking his head. "Talk to her." he sighs, "Free up some time. You work your ass off, you deserve a day to relax. Besides... I have a little shopping to do, could use some company."

Va'ynna nods. "I'll try," she says. "I don't think I'll get a day off, but a few hours... shouldn't be too much to ask, I suppose."

Damien remains expressionless for the moment, simply listening to the discourse.

Jason smiles, "Good." he says, giving a quick glance around the bar, "It'll be good to get you out of here for a while." He raises an eyebrow, "Have you-... Have you actually left since Ilyna took you shopping?" he asks tentatively.

Va'ynna lowers her head, looking a little ashamed. "N-no," she admits. "I get free meals here, and have the room upstairs, so... I haven't needed to."

Damien 's omni-tool beeps and he frowns at it. He looks at the caller and his eye twitches for a moment. He rises from his stool and dips his head curtly. "Excuse me, I have to... take this." He turns and heads to his room.

Jason turns towards Damien and gives a nod. He raises a hand to wave him off. "Like I said, I'll talk to Vasquez about the app. Expect to hear something back soon." he assures the man before turning his attention back to Va'ynna. "V..." he begins, a look of slight disappointment on his face, "I know what you went through must've been rough. But you can't spend the rest of your life locked up in here, ya know?" he says. A small smile creeps up as he adds, "Hell, that probably won't even be possible. You'd end up outliving this place."

Va'ynna frowns. "I know, but... um, I just... haven't needed to," she says. "I have worked almost all day recently, too."

Jason continues munching his chips idly, "Well, it doesn't matter, cuz sometime this week you're coming with me, okay? We're gonna head down to the market, cuz I've got something I need to pick up."

Va'ynna nods. "If D'Inea lets me," she says. "So, um, what are you going to pick up?" She glances around to see if anyone wants anything, but none seem to be signaling for her.

Jason looks sets down his chips and wraps his hand around his glass. He stares at the drink for a moment before looking back up at Va'ynna. "There's a metalworker down by the markets." he says with a shrug, "I ordered a few things. Thought it might help me-... deal with everything, ya know? Anyway, she sent me a message. Said my order is ready to be picked up." He takes a quick sip of his drink.

Va'ynna tilts her head, but she refrains from inquiring further. "Oh, I'll do my best to get time off," she says. "Would... the afternoon be best? I... don't think I want to go out at night."

Jason nods a few times, "Yeah, that works." he says, "What about you? Is there anything you need while we're out? Figure it might be a good opportunity to pick up anything you're out of." he shrugs, "Deoderant or something? Can't have you stinking, might start running off custo-..." he stops abruptly and raises an eyebrow, "Do asari sweat? Is that a thing?"

Va'ynna notices a patron signaling for her and make her way off to serve him, just ordering a beer. She returns to Jason afterwards. "We do sell toiletries here," she says. "So... I don't need to go out for that." She pauses, humming thoughtfully. "If there's any place I can get my simulsim viewer repaired... I wouldn't have to borrow Briggs' anymore."

Yeah, I'm sure there's a place somewhere around here that can take care of it. Speaking of Briggs, how has he been?

Jason glances past Va'ynna towards the door behind the counter. "Everything been alright with him? No-... Issues?"

Va'ynna looks thoughtful for a moment, but nods faintly. "Yeah, it's alright," she says. "I don't think... he enjoys his work, though."

What makes you think that...?

Va'ynna looks around. "It's... uneventful," she says. "I'm... happy about that, but I think he finds it boring. He even...," she fidgets, unsure if to continue, "said that Aylena is wasting her credits on security."

Jason sighs and shakes his head, looking a bit frustrated. "He didn't say that to her did he?" he asks, "I'm gonna have to talk to him... Can't have him losing business for us."

Va'ynna shakes her head. "No," she says, looking a little nervous. "Don't... tell him. D'Inea doesn't know he said it."

Jason takes a deep breath and remains quiet for a few moments. Finally, he nods, "Sorry... I wouldn't do anything to sell you out like that, but I can't have him going around saying stuff like that, ya know?" he takes another swig of his drink, emptying the glass, "Just-... Let me know if he keeps it up, okay? I promise I won't get you in any trouble."

Va'ynna sighs, relieved. "Thank... you," she says. "I just... didn't think he deserved that after letting me borrow his sim-viewer." She pauses, glancing towards the door. "And... I... don't think D'Inea would end the contract."

Jason reaches into a compartment on his hardsuit. "I hope not. This place may not see much action, but it doesn't take much. Just takes one bad night for things to get out of hand, ya know? I'd hate for something else to happen while you were on duty if nobody was here to help." he says as he produces a credit chit and slides it across the table towards Va'ynna for the chips and drink, as well as a nice-sized tip, "But don't worry about that. We're gonna make sure that doesn't happen." he assures her.

Va'ynna takes the credit chit and charges his tab, and shakes her head as she places the chit back on the counter. "Thank you," she says with a smile. "I appreciate the security here. I... really do."

Jason slides the chit back into his hardsuit compartment and gives Va'ynna a wink, "Don't mention it, V. You're my friend. I'm not gonna let anything happen to you." He stands from his barstool and reaches out to his sides, giving a quick stretch, "But I should probably get back to the agency. See about getting that time off, alright? I'll check in with you tomorrow."

Va'ynna returns the smile. "I will," she says, glancing at the terminal. "Maybe I get my usual time off,... before she gave me extra shifts."

I'll see you again.

Jason gives a nod, "See you tomorrow, V." he says before turning on his heels and making his way towards the exit.

Va'ynna remains there until Aylena takes over, Va'ynna working in the kitchen for the remainder of the evening.
