#FreedomFalls – September 9, 2014

The shuttle starts towards their destination. It's not nearly as smooth of a ride as the average skycar.

Jason drapes his arm across the back of the seat in an attempt at stretching out, and tugs at the neck of his t-shirt with his other hand. "Still haven't had the opportunity to check out the agency. Sounds like Linda wrapped up our last job, so I'm not really sure what she's got planned yet. We've got another coming up, so considering the credits this repair is costing, I wouldn't be surprised if she wanted us to wrap up that job as well before proceeding with construction."

Ilyna leans back, causing her crests to poke at Jason's arm, but she catches herself and moves her head a bit with a sheepish smile. "What is the next job about?" she asks. "If I may ask about it, of course."

Va'ynna frowns and looks forward, but doesn't say anything.

Jason stares blankly at the seat in front of him for a few moments before finally speaking up, "For ExoGeni..." he says with a sigh, "Some sort of expedition. I'm guessing they need security..." He faces Ilyna, "Linda says the pay is great, and we'll get information about-..." he pauses, "About that 'little issue' we've been tracking down. Believe me, ExoGeni is pretty far down on the list of employers I'd like to work for, but Linda seems to think this is the right choice." He sighs again, not sounding too sure, and reaches up to rub at his forehead.

Ilyna raises an eyebrow. "What?" she says. "Please tell me I'm wrong to compare what I just heard to... the last job for ExoGeni."

Jason shakes his head. "You're not wrong... I don't know any of the details right now, and I certainly wasn't too happy about it when Linda dropped it in my lap but-..." he sighs, "We don't have many options. Information is scarce, and credits are low. Besides, truth-be-told, if ExoGeni is up to their old games, what better place to be than right there on the front lines ready to stop it, right?" he shrugs, "But Linda doesn't seem to think it's anything like that. She has contacts in ExoGeni, apparently..."

Va'ynna glances at them. "Are you... going to join their expedition?" she asks.

Ilyna frowns. "I don't like the sound of that," she says. "I understand, but... do you really want to take the risks? At least it's not a colony losing contact this time, right?"

Jason leans forward and looks past Ilyna to Va'ynna. "I am." he says with a nod before addressing Ilyna, "We're not going to get to the bottom of-... whatever's happening without taking a few risks, Ilyna. I'm not sure about any of the specifics yet, but I'll definitely be bringing a team with me. I'll make sure they're all briefed on our history with the company. Do the best I can to take as many precautions as possible."

Ilyna frowns. "I... I don't know what to say," she says. "If I stay behind, and this goes as badly as it may sound, I don't know if I could forgive myself. And my sister has asked me a lot about your organization after overhearing that I knew Vasquez."

Va'ynna looks a little embarrased for a moment, but stays quiet.

Jason shakes his head a few times. "No, Ilyna. I'm not expecting you to get involved. Really... I don't want to pressure you into something you don't want to be a part of." he says, "We'll figure it out. We have a strong team with a good head on their shoulders. Nothing to worry about."

Ilyna nods. "I know, and I trust your judgment," she says, "but... keep me informed if you learn anything more about it, okay?"

Jason nods in turn, "Of course. As soon as I know something, you'll know something."

So, where is the expedition going?

The shuttle comes to a slow stop. "Alright, here ya are." the driver says intrusively, "Want me to stick around?"

Jason reaches into one of the pockets on his pants and fishes out a credit chit. "Nah, we'll call for pickup when we're done here." he says as he passes the chit to the driver. "I don't have the slightest idea." he responds to Ilyna while opening the passenger's-side door and hopping out, "Linda's still passing messages back and forth and planning it all out."

Va'ynna leaves through the other door and walks around the car to meet up with Jason. "It's... another system in this... cluster if I remember correctly," she says. "A salarian asked for work a while back, so I found that article."

Ilyna leaves the same door as Va'ynna, closing the door behind her before making her way over to the others.

The shuttle stopped just outside of the salarian's repair shop. It looks much the same as before. Through the window, the salarian can be seen hunched over the counter, fiddling with a dissected omni-tool. A few more bits of junk line the walls of the shop. It looks as though nothing has been sold since their previous visit.

Jason raises an eyebrow at Va'ynna. "Really...? What else do you know about the expedition? I didn't even think to look into it, had no idea they'd already released information."

Va'ynna enables her omni-tool and finds and archived article. "Just... that, and what they're looking for," she says after skimming over it. "They're even looking for someone to cook food, but... after what you've said, I think I'll... stay with Miner's Respite."

Jason nods a couple times. "That's probably for the best... ExoGeni isn't exactly a company that comes with my shining star of recommendation." he sighs. He gives a glance down the block towards Mayra's Metalworks, "I've got a little business to take care of." he says, "How about you meet me back here once you're done inside?" he asks, cocking a thumb towards the repair shop.

Ilyna follows Jason's gaze. "I'll stay with Va'ynna, then," she says, "unless you want me to come with you?"

Jason shakes his head. "Nah, I shouldn't be long." he says. He starts off towards the building, tossing a hand up as a half-assed wave.

The shuttle rolls off once everyone has stepped away from it.

Va'ynna walks inside the shop after Jason leaves, looking around, and a little thoughtfully as it didn't seem to have changed much.

Ilyna returns the wave before following the other asari in, looking around the store, she raises an eyebrow for a moment, since the store seems messy.

Salarian looks up from his work as the door opens. "Ah, yes. Ms Atana." he says, glancing between the two asari, "Was slight damage to the Delumcore. Replaced the internal board. Would have been done sooner, but had other work backlogged. I assume by your lack of haste that it wasn't an issue."

Va'ynna approaches the counter. "No issue," she says. "I borrowed one from... a coworker in the meantime." She stops by the counter. "So,... how much do I owe?"

Ilyna waits by the door, quietly observing while the two others talk.

Salarian reaches below the counter and lifts the simulsim viewer onto the countertop. "One-seventy should cover it." he says. "Although, I do have newer models for sale if you would rather upgrade." he adds with the delivery of a salesman, gesturing to a few other viewers conveniently placed atop the end of the counter. "Refurbished by my own hands. Reliable. The Solar 'Core' would be my reccomendation."

Va'ynna shakes her head and enables her omni-tool, preparing to pay the sum. "No, thank you," she says, "I think I'll stick with my own."

Salarian shrugs and reaches out, pulling the Solar 'Core' model closer to him. "Are you sure, Ms Atana? You won't find a product of this quality for the price I'm asking anywhere else." he says, tilting his head slightly.

Va'ynna nods. "I'm sure," she says, just one button away from paying the sum. "I'll keep my own, please."

Salarian nods. "Very well." he says as he brings up his own omni-tool. "One-hundred-seventy credits." he repeats as the holographic interface appears. He waits to accept the transaction.

Va'ynna taps on the interface once more, sending over the 170 credits asked. "There, it should be sent now," she says.

Salarian taps at his omni-tool for a moment before allowing it to dissipate. "Pleasure doing business with you, Ms Atana. Don't forget to tell your friends about me." he says, his salesman pitch returning, "Quick service. Affordable prices." He slides her simulsim viewer across the counter towards her, "Best in Freedom Falls."

Va'ynna takes the bag with a nod. "Thank you," she says, letting her omni-tool's interface shut off. "I'll... consider it." She takes a step back.

Salarian nods in return, "Quite welcome." he says before turning his attention back to the dissectied omni-tool.

Va'ynna turns around and makes her way over to the exit, glancing outside to see if Jason is back.

Jason is standing just outside the store, leaning against the wall with his arms folded across his chest. "Everything go alright?" he asks.

Va'ynna nods, stepping outside the store. "Yeah," she says. "He did try to sell me another instead, though."

Ilyna follows her out, but stays quiet not to interrupt the other two talking.

Jason chuckles to himself. "Guessing he wants to get rid of some of that junk in there. Place is like a hoarders dream."

I guess. It didn't look like much have changed, so maybe people... just come here for repairs.

Jason shrugs, "Probably. If that pays the bills, I guess." He looks over at Ilyna, "Anything you need while we're out?"

Ilyna shakes her head. "Nothing I can think of," she says. "So, where have you been if I may ask?"

Jason smirks. "Good." he says, "Because I may have completely forgot to ask you before calling the shuttle." he says. He gives a glance back towards the metalwork shop and gives a shrug, "Metalworker's shop. Just needed to put in an order." he responds, looking somewhat uncomfortable, "Nothing important."

Ilyna chuckles. "That explains the short notice," she says. "So, where are we headed now?"

Va'ynna raises an eyebrow for a moment, but keeps quiet.

Figure I should get back to the Respite before Linda manages to tear her nose away from that terminal of hers and realize I'm actually gone.

Jason furrows his brow as he realizes the other two may have other plans. "Oh-... But if you two wanted to stay out for a while, you can grab the shuttle. I'll call another for myself. No big deal."

Va'ynna nods. "I suppose I should get back to work," she says. "So that maybe she'll... let me take more time off later today."

Jason smirks. "Uh huh... For your hot date." he teases.

Ilyna raises an eyebrow and glances at Va'ynna, but doesn't pursue the subject. "I'll get another shuttle and visit my sister, then," she says. "But before I go. She'll probably ask me, even how much I disagree with her going on that expediiton: Are you still looking for mercenaries for your next job?"

Va'ynna stares at Jason, her cheeks deepening in color, but the hue goes back to normal as Ilyna change the subject.

Jason sighs, and reaches up to scratch at the back of his neck. "I know it's probably not what you'd like to hear, but we're always looking for more employees, Ilyna... If you want, I can talk to Linda about getting her a spot on the team but-..." he shrugs, "You know how dangerous it could be. If you want to tell her we're all booked up, I'd back you up on it..."

I suppose it's better she works for you instead of... anyone who could potentially oppose you, right? There's no persuading her to get out of that line of work.

Ilyna sighs. "I'll be honest with her, but make sure she's aware of what risks ExoGeni takes."

Jason nods a couple times. "Then I'll pass the word along to Linda. You know that we'll do the best we can to make sure she's safe."

Ilyna nods. "I trust you'll do," she says. "Her name is Ehanis Tioran, so that you'll know it's her. I'll tell her to send you a message if she's interested."

Va'ynna raises an eyebrow. "Oh, she's... your sister?" she says. "I couldn't... guess that. She... and a turian woman has talked about joining the agency."

Jason gives Ilyna a nod and raises her eyebrow at Va'ynna. "She came into the Respite?" he asks, "She hang out there often?"

Va'ynna nods. "A few times,... yeah," she says. "She... stayed there first time she was here, but... she hasn't lived there after she came back after a trip off-world."

If she comes in while I'm still there, try and shoot me a message. If she plans on joining Redrock, I'd like to talk to her.

Ilyna nods. "I'll tell her to," she says, taking a step back. "I suppose I should get going, so I'll see you both."

The shuttle rolls up, stopping right in front of the repair shop. The driver eyes the three standing there.

Jason gives Ilyna a nod. "See you later, Ilyna." he says as he steps towards the shuttle and opens the door, "We'll get together to check out the agency some time in the next week or so if you're up to it." he adds before sliding into the seat behind the driver and scooting down so Va'ynna has room.

Va'ynna smiles slightly. "See you," she says before sliding in and taking the seat vacated by Jason.

Ilyna lifts her hand in a small wave. "I'm up for that, sure," she says, "but I'll probably see you before then." She turns around and starts making her way down the street, bringing up her omni-tool to place a call.

Jason leans forward and instructs the driver on where to take them before settling back into his seat. "Well, that's one thing taken care of." he says.

Va'ynna closes the door. "Can I... know what you ordered?" she says. "From the metalworker, I mean." She fidgets a bit before adding, "I... hope it's... not like last time."

The shuttle lurches forward as it starts towards their destination.

Jason gives a short shake of his head, "No... Nothing like that." he says. He goes quiet for a few moments as he contemplates whether or not to tell her. "Just-... A ring." he says finally with a shrug.

Va'ynna appears thoughtful for a moment. "It's a gift?" she asks, not able to connect it to anything specific with certainty.

Jason nods. "Yeah..." he says, "I'll be able to pick it up in about a week."

Va'ynna nods. "I'll... not tell anyone about it then," she says. "As long as you stopp telling people me going out with a friend is a date," she jokes.

Jason smirks and chuckles a bit, "Not a date. Got it..." he says, "...Just a booty-call."

Va'ynna frowns, and nudges Jason's side. "It's just dinner," she says.

Jason nods a bunch of times, "Oh, of course. Just dinner. Then? A little dessert." he teases. "Bow-chicka-bow-wow."

Va'ynna brings up a hand to her forehead, but looks a litte more amused than she would admit. "I... have no idea what that means," she says, "but I'll just say no."

Jason chuckles with a big grin on his face. "Oh, you know what it means." he insists, wiggling his eyebrows. "So, where is this dinner taking place?" he asks.

She said she... would look into that, since I... don't really go out often enough to know what places are good.

All joking aside, I'm glad you're getting out of that bar. It'll be good for you to make more friends.

Va'ynna nods. "Yeah," she says. "I... hope I can get the time off, though, since evenings can be busy."

The shuttle pulls up in front of the Respite and comes to a full stop.

Jason gives a shrug as he leans forward and passes a credit chit to the driver. "With all the time you put in, it's the least she can do. She owes you this." he says.

Va'ynna opens the door, and steps outside. "I... yeah, she does," she says, "But still, evenings can be hectic, and more than one can manage in the kitchen."

Jason takes the chit back once the driver is done with it and exits the vehicle behind Va'ynna. "If she'd stop working you like an indentured slave and hire a bigger staff, she wouldn't have this problem." he mutters as he continues towards the Respite's front door.

Va'ynna frowns, approaching the door as well. "Yeah, I know," she says. "She did hire someone for cleaning and housekeeping, though, so that's... no longer on me."
