#Miner'sRespite – October 26, 2014
Renala is sitting in a booth near the bar, reading something on her omni-tool. An empty plate and a half-empty glass of beer is on the table before her. She's dressed as usual, a dark-blue somewhat modest top with a leather jacket over.
Zaylus steps lightly into the Respite, giving short glaces to either side but mainly looking straight forward. Especially alert guests might've noticed him outside for several minute beforehand, intensely observing one patron in particular. The turian steps quickly across the floor, hand wavering over his sidearm. There is intense purpose in his stride, but as he nears the opposite
wall his demeanor shifts, and a hard expression gives way to familiar congeniality. His raised hand drops back to his side, and his pace slows. "Renala." He greets normally, almost relieved. "Renala." He mutters again, quietly.
Renala has been too caught up with her reading to notice the turian before he greets her, surprising her. She looks up at the turian, staring at him, before she recognizes him. "Gru-- Zaylus?" she says. "Where the hell have you been?" She lets her omni-tool's projection dissipate.
Zaylus looks over his shoulder once, sighing. "Got myself in a bit of trouble." He replies honestly, figuring someone else in his line of work would be able to sympathize. "Couldn't get back to Aite until now." He says before quickly adding, "I hardly recognized you."
Renala gestures towards the opposite side. "You as well, but I don't know all that many turians around here," she says. "So, what chased you off the rock, if I can pry?"
Zaylus | "The past." He chuckles dryly once before his expression reverts to indifferent alertness. He takes the offered seat across from the asari, but how he sits so near to the edge implies he doesn't intend to speak for long. "Old connections, you know. Apparently still had some issues with me." He explains slowly, peering around the bar. "It was a long fucking time trying to get
Renala nods. "Now that's a place I don't plan on going again," she says. "Had some exciting times there, though, I can't deny that." She pauses, thinking for a few seconds. "But you're not relaxing," she points out in a slightly lower voice. "You think they followed you here?"
Zaylus taps his talons against the table, clearly trying to pay attention. His gaze begins to wander again, but quickly snaps back to the asari. Her obversation validates some paranoia and the turian begins to think out loud in a lowered voice. "Not all of them." He says, "Just the two. Just those two." He clears his throat gruffly in an attempt to silence himself. "No, no. It's
difficult to be sure. They're very... generic looking. Everyone looks like them to me." He says, neglecting to mention how close he had come to taking the asari's head by mistake. "How is Redrock?" He questions, not bothering with any kind of smooth transition.
Renala frowns. "A bit of a mess right now," she says. "We had a job that went well enough, but we may have made some enemies. I'm not sure how that's going. I haven't been kept in the loop since I began working on the data we grabbed."
Zaylus nods, seeming thoughtful. "I stopped by the building not long ago. I assume that mess had something to do with these new enemies?" He asks expectantly, leaning in a touch.
Renala chuckles. "Jasper, Leah and Mendez got there in time to corner them, though, and Vasquez finished them off without even asking them to back down. Even the wall was no cover for her gun."
Zaylus chuckles lightly in response, leaning back in the booth. "I see you all handled it without a problem. Though I've heard Wolfe is boarding around here because of it." He says, recalling something Va`ynna had said. "And you? Still sticking around?"
Renala nods. "Yeah, been working on getting the encryption cracked on the data we grabbed," she says. She hears her omni-tool beep and checks the message quickly, but dismisses it without a word. "Not much else going on for me, I'm afraid. I should probably prod them about an update on the situation soon."
Zaylus nods, his gaze once again beginning to drift. The turian straightens up again after feeling himself become lax, nearly jumping up as he rises from his seat. "Sorry, I forgot I didn't even mean to come in today. Got some other things to attend to while I'm out this way." He says quickly, leaning back on his heels. Not sure how to go about a goodbye, he simply says. "I'll see
Renala raises her hand slightly to stop him. "Hey, talk to Jason about it, okay?" she says. "We're a team at Redrock. We look out for the people at our side; remember?"
Zaylus stops at her hand. He appears struck by the asari's words, but nods quietly. "I'll...I'll talk to him soon, I know I should. For a lot of reasons." He starts to turn, but hesitates. "I appreciate it, really." He replies sincerely, giving her a small smile. "Goodbye, Renala."
Renala returns the smile. "Take care, Zaylus," she says. She drinks up the remainder of her drink in one go and makes her way over to the bar.
Zaylus slips out of the Respite, peering either way before heading off down the street at a fast pace.
Ehanis is sitting at the bar, exchanging a few words with Renala with a gesture towards the exit door. Like earlier tonight, Ehanis is dressed in dark blue top and nondescript pants. Renala then makes her way off to assist Mendez at the hospital.
Jason descends the staircase in a pair of black cargo pants, black boots, and a white short sleeved t-shirt. As he nears the bottom of the stairs, he spots Renala heading off and thinks about calling out after her, but decides against it. Instead, he looks over the bar for any indication as to who Ehanis might be.
Ehanis raises a hand in a wave as she looks towards the human man, Va'ynna standing just on the other side of the bar may be how she could tell it was him.
Jason gives the asari a nod and makes his way over to her. He scratches at the back of his neck and glances over the room at all the other patrons suspiciously before taking a seat beside Ehanis. "Hey V." he says with a smile, "The usual." He turns to face Ehanis and extends a hand towards her, "Jason Wolfe. Nice to meet you. Your sister told me a bit about you."
Ehanis takes his hand. "Good to meet you too, finally," she says. "I've heard the stories my sis had to tell about the jobs with you guys, some of which makes me question why I'm here right now." She doesn't sound all that serious about the last part.
Jason chuckles to himself. " 'Fraid things haven't changed all that much, either. It's a pretty rough time for us right now. We're definitely hurting to get more hands on deck, but you should know what you're getting yourself into." he sighs. He gives another glance around the room before continuing, "We're currently butting heads with some people that seem to have deep pockets. Not
the safest time to be a Redrock employee, that's for sure. I can't go into much more detail than that, but know that if you're signed on, you're walking into a heated situation."
Va'ynna moves over to find the bottles, which she knew almost instantly where were. She returns with the and mixes his drink into an ice-filled glass before handing it to him. Va'ynna remains quiet, however, to let the others talk. She seems a little tired, but her being here hours after her usual shift ends might explain that. (Ehanis_Tioran)
Ehanis nods. "I've lived on Omega for three decades," she says. "I wouldn't be here if I couldn't handle a heated situation. And it sounds like action!" She picks up her nearly empty glass of some asari brandy. "And you're good people, I trust sis on that one. I'd rather be on your side than on the wrong end of your guns if I choose the wrong guys to work for."
A lilac-colored asari in casual clothing further down the bar casts a glance at the two talking, but she's barely out of earshot of them. (Ehanis_Tioran)
Jason gives Va'ynna an appreciative nod and takes a sip of his drink. "We're currently having work done on our headquarters, so operations are a little slow at the moment. But we've got a few jobs lined up for the near future. Is all your experience freelance, or do you have any formal training?" he asks, unable to recall if Ilyna had mentioned, "I mean, don't get me wrong... If it
were up to me, your sister's recommendation would be more than enough to earn you a spot on the team. But the fact is, it's not just up to me. I'm willing to go to bat for you, but it would be nice to have some info on your qualifications to grease the wheels a bit."
Ehanis nods. "All freelance," she says. "I'm a good biotic, know how to throw and warp. I'm good enough with stasis fields, and I'm not that bad with a gun." She pauses. "The amazing barriers don't run in this side of her family, though. I have to disappoint you there," she says in a less serious tone, even if there's some truth to it. She takes a sip of her drink.
Jason smirks and nods. "Fair enough. What about baggage? Anything we should know about before associating Redrock Agency with you? I know how easy it is to make enemies on Omega..."
Ehanis considers the question for a moment. "Nah, I've stayed out of the big gangs' business on Omega," she says. "Not saying I've always been lucky, but I'm not on the run from anyone right now. I only packed up because something big was brewing and me and my roomie didn't want to be in the middle of it."
Jason raises an eyebrow. "Something 'big'?" he asks, "You mean the plague? I heard that things were bad... I'd be lying if I said it didn't worry me. I've got a few people back on Omega... Hope they're alright..."
Yeah, the plague. I think there's something else too, since the gangs seem more on edge. Well, more than usual. Eclipse has a few enemies, and I lived on their turf, so it was high time to leave that station behind.
Ehanis takes a long sip of her drink. "Anyway, as I said, I don't have any enemies that would put your group in danger."
Jason nods a couple times. "Can't say I blame you. Best to stay out of their way. I'm not exactly at the top of the Blue Suns 'most liked people' list myself..." he sighs. "Anyway, I don't see any reason why Vasquez wouldn't welcome some more help. Send over your contact info and give it a few days and I'll talk it over with her myself."
Ehanis enables her omni-tool. "Seems my sister's good at finding friends on their shit-list, huh?" she jokes before sending over her contact information. "They and Eclipse weren't even around when I first went to Omega, that's how fast they've grown."
Jason removes his omni-tool from a pocket in his cargo pants and activates it. After confirming the information has been received, he places the devices back in his pocket.
Well, to be fair, it's not exactly hard to piss 'em off. Ya know, for one of the biggest merc operations out there, they sure are an angry bunch.
Ehanis nods. "Yeah, but you must have done something serious to piss them off, right? Not gonna ask, of course," she says. "And I expect your agency aren't planning on going up against them either, am I right?"
Jason snorts loudly and shakes his head. "Well... Mistakes might've been made. But I'd say the blame lies somewhere between me and them. Miscommunication and all that..." he says with a shrug, "There's some people that I need to settle up with on their payroll... But I keep my personal issues personal. Wouldn't drag the agency into that mess..."
Ehanis takes a sipt of her drink, and glances towards a clock on the menu screen. "I'm sorry to cut this short, Mr. Wolfe," she says, "but I've got a cab to catch in a few minutes if I don't want to spend a hundred creds getting home tonight."
Jason 's smirk returns and he gives a nod. "Not a problem, Ehanis. Like I said, it might take a few days, but I'll be sure to either get back to you myself, or Vasquez will get back to you. It was nice finally meeting you."
Ehanis drinks the remainder of the glass before getting up. "You too," she says with a smile. "I'm looking forward to it. And meeting the rest of the bunch when I get the job." She tosses a credit chit on the counter. "See you."
Jason raises an arm to wave her off before returning his attention to his drink and taking a large sip.
