#Miner'sRespite – August 29, 2015
Victoria walks down the stairs to go into the bar area. Wearing her normal white t-shirt and long pants. She walks up to the bar and takes a seat.
Steve is standing behind the bar, leaning against the wall beside the door to the back hallway. He takes a sip from the glass of water in his hands and gives a nod to Victoria as she makes her appearance. "Look what the varren dragged in." he says with the raise of an eyebrow.
Victoria smiles at Va'ynna "If I order my usual drink, do you come with it?" She said in a joking manner. She then looks at Steve "Um excuse me but I dragged the varren in."
Va'ynna grins for a moment, but shakes her head. "Not... now," she says before going off to get the bottles.
Steve rolls his eyes. "Ya ever taste somethin' that's so sweet ya feel like ya can't keep it down?" he asks. "And then ya just start gaggin'? 'Fore long you've painted your guts all over the bathroom wall? Well-..." he holds his glass of water by the brim and uses his index finger to point at Victoria, then at Va'ynna, "That's the two of you. So damn sweet ya make me wanna hurl." He
Va'ynna crouches down to pick up the bottles. "Then don't watch," she mutters, looking a bit hurt by what he said about them. She returns with them and begins mixing the drink.
Victoria looks at Steve with a grin "Don't worry Steve, I am sure there is someone out there, that is as much as an ass as you." She pauses "Actually, don't go looking. Don't think I could handle two of you."
Steve sniffs loudly as he gives a shrug. "Watchin' is my job." he reminds the asari, "Unfortunately." He takes another sip of his drink and leans heavily against the doorframe, "I don't know where you've gone and gotten that impression of me, darlin'." He steps away from the doorway and moves to refill his glass, "I hear what all of you folks say. The looks ya give me." he gives a
shrug as he starts the tap, "But it's a bunch of hypocrisy. You realize that, right?" He doesn't particularly seem upset by the conversation. As a matter of fact, he seems to be in a better mood than usual.
Va'ynna pours the rum and coke into an ice-filled glass and puts it on the counter before Victoria, though remains quiet.
Victoria shrugs "Well, sometimes we need ass holes. So do what you want, I ain't gonna tell ya to stop being yourself."
Steve gives Vicky a half-hearted thumbs up as he finishes filling his glass. "What have I done to get on your bad side so quickly?" he asks, "I can't remember doin' a single thing to give you this impression of me. This about back on that ship?" He takes a step back from the counter and cocks his head to the side.
Steve gives another shrug. "Fair enough. I just worry about you folks." he says, giving a glance between Victoria and Va'ynna. "We work with a whole lot of people to seem to draw a strange line between who they are, and what they do. You start doin' that shit and you set yourself on a dangerous road. Seen it tear tighter crews than this apart." He gives a nod towards a nearby booth,
"You hear about ol' Monroe? Just about turned Jason into an omni-kebab yesterday. This stuff starts to play on the mind after a while. Ya gotta know where ya stand."
"Wait, why the heck did Monroe try to do that for?" She asked, having hearing about this for the first time.
Steve shakes his head and takes another sip of his water. "Finally cracked, I guess. If it wasn't for Ren, he prolly would've gotten 'im, too. It's all this flip-floppin', ya know? We're hired guns. Yet Jason's got everybody drinkin' the apple cider. Believin' we're doin' the 'right thing'. That's dangerous territory. Somethin' goes wrong like that and-..." he holds his glass between
his thumb and index finger and pantomimes a ball exploding outward with his hands, "...sometimes a switch just flips. I like Monroe. Hopefully he manages to pack it in and get his shit together. With Jason at the head, I somehow doubt it, though."
Victoria shrugs "I just guess, time will tell. But it seems like things are falling apart after that last job."
Steve waves the woman's suggestion off, "It was fallin' apart long before that last job. People were just too blind to see it. We're a bunch of criminals out in the Terminus, and he's sellin' a good story." He puts his hand up, palms outward as he pauses, "Now, don't get me wrong. I like the guy. Well, I think he's got good intentions, anyway. He believes the product he's sellin'. He
believes he's doin' the right thing. And that's likely to get us all killed. I mean, look at you!" he sweeps a hand towards Vicky, "Pirate. Ran your own crew. Probably had people shittin' their pants at the mention of ya. Yet back on that ship, you risked your life for a group of rugrats that we don't even know." He folds his arms across his chest, resting his glass against the inner
crook of his elbow with a smug expression on his face, "What would've happened if they were infected? Could've got you. Which would've put everyone else in even more danger. Where'd that come from? Doesn't sound like the actions of a fierce pirate to me."
Victoria does not say a word, the reminder of what she was. She just simply takes a sip of her drink and looks at the bar top.
Steve sighs loudly as his comments get no response. He rolls his shoulders. "All I'm sayin' is I don't wanna see any more of ours dead. Includin' Jason. If you feel he's makin' a bad decision, call him out on it. Remember why we do this. It's a job. We're not bodies lookin' to toss ourselves on a sword for someone elses crusade." He unfolds his arms and takes another sip from his
glass. "Just think about it." he adds before taking a step towards the door. He looks between Vicky and Va'ynna, raising his voice so he can be heard by both, "Now, you two have yourselves a nice evenin'." He points at Vicky, "Don't keep her out too late, she's got work in the mornin'." he teases before backing through the doorway and turning on his heels.
Victoria has a little chuckle at the last part of it, but still thinking about what he said. "Can't promise that."
Va'ynna walks back once Steve leaves, and takes Victoria's hand without saying a word. She hasn't overheard the conversation, but saw that Steve must have said something unpleasant.
Victoria looks up in surprise to see that Va'ynna has taken her hand, she smiles at the asari "I am glad I have you."
Va'ynna smiles slightly, but it eventually fades. "Is... Redrock's people... not working together?" she asks in a murmur.
Victoria shrugs "I don't know. Apparently, Steve thinks Redrock is falling apart." Squeezes Va'ynna's hand "But lets not worry about that now."
Va'ynna squeezes her hand in turn before letting go. "I... I'll ask... Jason about it, then," she says, followed by a pause. "What have you been up to... today?"
Va'ynna sighs. "I... wish i could say that one day... soon," she says. "Managing... this place with what little I can do... is... time consuming."
Va'ynna hums thoughtfully. "How... much do you know about serving drinks?" she asks in a lowered voice.
Va'ynna smiles, and steps back. "It's... pretty quiet right now," she says and walks over to a terminal, starting to type on it. "I'll show you."
Victoria hops up and walks around the bar to where Va'ynna is. "Think this is my first time behind the bar."
Va'ynna nods. "I'll keep this terminal logged on," she says, lowering her voice. "It... should be straightforward after a little bit. You click here to put something on a tab, usually the VI guesses who made the order, but... it shouldn't be hard to point out who when it's... not many around. You click here to set up a room." She gestures at the screen while talking. She reaches to the back of the bar and drags a datapad into view,
and enabling it. It has a searchable list of documents, with the front page giving examples on generic orders. "If you're... unsure about a drink, look it up here," she whispers. She steps aside to let her get to the terminal. "I'll serve... orders while you get... familiar with this."
Victoria nods at Va'ynna and looks at the terminal "Alright, I can do this no problem. I can fly ships and shuttles, this can't be to hard." She says to herself.
Va'ynna wraps an arm over her shoulder. "Good." She's thoughtful for a moment, wondering if she forgot something. "Never say room numbers... out loud, just... send them like the terminal is set up to do," she says, "and if... anyone asks for a room number to see someone, confirm it with... the guest first."
Victoria nods "Alright, gotcha. Stranger danger and all that. Now is that all?" Vicky asked wondering if that was all.
Va'ynna leans in to kiss her on the cheek, but decides against it, seeming a little embarassed. She let's go off her. "That's all... I think," she says. "Take your time." She walks off towards another part of the bar, as a patron was getting impatient.
