Vasquez is quite obviously still not very comfortable with the prospect of an ex-cultist child being in Ilyna's care. She nods faintly. "Yes, that... would be best. Our line of work is not well-suited for that."

Ilyna nods. "And we can't do our job without sometimes becoming a target," she says. "It's just that I don't know anyone I would trust enough to take care of her... that doesn't already work here."

Vasquez furrows her eyebrows. After a moment's consideration she shakes her head. "Can't really help you there... everyone I know on this planet is in Redrock. But it's rare for everyone to be working at once, so maybe that's not a problem."

My sister is looking after her now while I'm here, but I don't think the Miner's Respite would appreciate their only security guard not being able to focus on her job.

Vasquez nods, a bit distantly. She glances at one of her screens. "I'm still getting caught up on the changes while I was gone... is Steve not running security at the Respite anymore?"

Ilyna considers it for a moment. "I haven't kept up since we returned, either," she says, "but I think Ehanis is just stepping in for him until he recovers."

He should be able to handle security duty soon enough. Not as straining as field work, and, well, Briggs is likely to demand to come back as soon as he can.

Ilyna nods. "Understood," she says. "Are there any other contracts Ehanis could handle once Briggs is back?"

Vasquez shakes her head. "Not right now... but I'm looking into expanding our security contracts, so something may come up." She adds, with a slight smile "I'll be sure to keep her in mind for future jobs."

Ilyna returns the smile. "All I ask is that you don't send her on any jobs off-world," she says. "She can hold her own in a fight, but she does lack formal training."

Vasquez glances at the screen again and then leans back in her seat. "You're not to keen on her getting into combat, huh?" Before Ilyna has a chance to respond she adds: "Uh... you wanna sit down?"

Ilyna gives a sheepish smile and takes the seat. "There's a difference between getting into combat and the waking nightmares we so often run into on our jobs off world."

Vasquez goes quiet, tensing up a little bit. She briefly moves her right hand to the pistol holstered on her hip, touching it to make sure it's there and then letting out a breath, nodding to herself. "Yeah... yeah, I-... no one else should have to face what we've faced. I'd like to hope none of us will again... but that didn't work out so well last time..." She closes her eyes. Taking

another deep breath. Fingers are brushing against the pistol again. No sign of drawing it - probably just for comfort.

Ilyna frowns. "Sorry, I... shouldn't have brought that up," she says. "We should focus on finding jobs that doesn't involve traveling off-world."

Vasquez nods several times, looking past Ilyna as she opens her eyes. After a few more breaths she focuses on the asari again. "I-... yeah... we... we'll see. A lot of the more lucrative work is off-world. We'll see..." She repeats, sounding a bit distant.

Ilyna nods. "I can understand that, but that reward comes with more risk," she says. "At the very least, we could have those we'd send off-world go through more serious training as a team... instead of hoping they do that on their own in their spare time."

Vasquez nods more sharply in respond. "Yes. We need to make sure the teams we send out are functional. Making sure everyone has trained together is something we've neglected for too long."

Ilyna glances at the door. "What kind of training can we do here?" she asks. "I... haven't had the chance to look around here yet."

Vasquez raises an eyebrow. "Not much, honestly. I think we're better off organizing a training mission in the wilds outside town. I've started making some plans. Could be a good step towards making sure everyone can work together. We... we need to build team unity. And... I'd like to hope I can regain the trust of our people."

Ilyna nods. "I hadn't thought about using the wilderness," she says, trying to avoid the more serious subject. "It's a big world with few people, but what if someone else misunderstands what we're doing out there?"

Vasquez shakes her head. "It'll be fine, just need to clear it with the militia and all that first. I'm thinking we'll stay within Freedom Falls juristiction."

Ilyna gives a slight smile. "That's good," she says. "I would love to participate, but... you should prioritize those that are fit to take on a contract."

Vasquez smirks slightly and leans forward, putting her hands on the desk. "Already know I can count on you to work well with our people. Hell, you're really the only one aside from Jason I'd trust to lead a mission." The mere mention of Jason's name is enough to cause her hand to graviate towards the ring again.

Ilyna chuckles. "I've gotten the impression you two don't have a lot of trust in the others," she says. "Jason outright admitted that when he asked me to lead the Tanner job...., though he had asked T'Iavay before coming to me."

Vasquez shrugs faintly. "Takes a while to earn trust in our business. Incidents like the one with Teratus doesn't help..."

Ilyna frowns. "I knew something was wrong with her, but... I left it to her to talk with Dr. Halisi about it," she says, and is about to continue when she stops herself and instead adds, "You should talk to her about it, though."

Yes, I intend to have a word with her now that she's out of the hospital. I haven't decided yet she can stay with Redrock, but at the very least she's unsuited for field work.

Ilyna nods slowly. "I understand," she says. "She did follow orders on the mission, though."

Vasquez scoffs. "Yeah, well, that doesn't really help if she ends up breaking someone's back in a biotic freakout."

Ilyna frowns. "I hope you and her can come to an understanding, then," she says, looking a little uncomfortable. "Was there anything else you wanted to talk about?"

Vasquez considers the question for a moment and then shakes her head. "No, not right now. I'll call you if I need any help getting things sorted."

Ilyna nods. "I was thinking of coming in tomorrow morning to get settled and oriented," she says, "so that's all out of the way as soon as possible."

Sounds like a plan.

Ilyna stands up. "I saw my name on the door in the end of the hall," she says. "I take it that it's ready for me to move in there?"

Yeah, all prepped.

Ilyna nods. "I'll see you tomorrow, then," she says with a small smile.

Vasquez nods in return, relaxing a bit and turning her attention to her screen.

Ilyna turns around and heads out through the door. Once in the hallway, she looks towards her office to see if the door is unlocked.

It is.

Ilyna decides to instead check it out tomorrow and heads out of the building, nodding to the receptionist that's probably still asleep on the way out.
