#RedrockAgency – December 20, 2015
Ilyna arrives by sky-car taxi along with Li, as Ehanis would not be persuaded to watch her for the first few hours while she settled into her office. She pays the turian taxi driver and the doors open. She is wearing her typical modest kind of casual dress, and a backpack.
Renala is in her office, and has not been seen leaving for the night the day before, or outside the office during the night. If asked yesterday, she would say she was staying a bit longer to oversee a slow installation process.
Li waves at the taxi driver and hops out of the vehicle. She looks around curiously, eventually ending up staring at the snow-capped mountains, lit by the morning sun.
Ilyna puts on the backpack and climbs out after Li. "Here we are," she says. She looks a little nervous despite her best effort to hide it. The taxi closes the doors and takes off a few seconds later.
Li flinches slightly as the taxi takes off. Her gaze then moves to the building. "Is this where you work?"
Ilyna nods. "Mhm," she says. "I think Vasquez or Jason is going to show us around today. I have barely seen any of it." She gestures towards the door and starts walking. "Let's go."
The lobby door is locked, but it unlocks and slides open upon Ilyna touching the haptic interface. The lobby is empty,, but the lights flicker on a moment after the door has opened.
Ilyna enters the lobby once the door is open, and looks around. Seeing none, she starts walking towards the hallway. She looks a little bit nervous.
The hallway is dark aside from what little light is flowing through from the lobby, but as they step into it the lights here start to turn on as well. The space is empty.
Ilyna gestures towards her office door before proceeding through the hallway, deciding not to interrupt the others right away.
Li seems reluctant to enter the hallway until all the lights are on, but then goes with Ilyna towards the door in question. There's a light thumping as someone walks on the floor above.
Ilyna glances up at the sound, but doesn't act on it in any way. She reaches her office door and tries to open it.
The door to Ilyna's office slides open, and the lights turn on, showing the room - an bare office containing a desk with a built-in terminal hooked up to the base mainframe - and little else. Not even a chair.
Ilyna raises a brow at the lack of a chair to sit on, but enters the office regardless. She walks over to the desk, and puts her backpack against it.
Li shoots a glance up at the ceiling - and the stairs, but then follows into the office, looking around. "This room looks sad." she states matter-of-factly.
Li nods in agreement as she walks around the room, looking curiously. She disappears under the desk to take a look at the underside of it, and then appears on the other side.
Ilyna sits down on the edge of the desk, looking around the room. "Find anything interesting under the desk?" she asks.
Ilyna nods. "We should probably not touch those," she says. "Monroe or T'Iavay... would probably get mad if it's not how they left it."
Ilyna enables her omni-tool, and sends a very brief message to both Jason and Vasquez informing them that she's at her office.
Ilyna hops off the desk. "I've let them know we're here," she says, shutting off her omni-tool's display. "Let's take a look around while we wait for them."
Li follows after. She looks curiously down the dark side-branch of the corridor that leads towards the hangar, and then her gaze darts to the stairs.
Vasquez appears in the stairs as they start to make their way up. On her way down she's humming and brushing her hair, which is wet, likely from a recent shower. She startles upon noticing Ilyna and Li, grabbing the brush as if holding a combat knife. She's wearing her usual cargo pants and tank top.
Adam brings the motorbike to a stop outside of the Redrock building. He's dressed in a white and black motorcycle jacket with matching trousers and black boots. He pulls off his corsair helmet and gazes at the building. "Not bad," he mutters quietly as he powers down the bike. He slips off the bike and pulls open the storage box,
Vasquez 's gaze darts around the bottom of the stairs. She clears her throat and lowers the brush. "Right. Of course." She says, looking rather awkward. "T'Rea, uh..." she looks at Li. "Kid."
Adam attaches the holster and gun to his thigh, then promptly locks the storage compartment. Adam sharply turns and strides over to the lobby doors, pausing once reaching them. He checks to see if the doors are open. If not, he would look for an intercom.
Adam presses the button for requesting access. He links his gloved hands behind his back and waits, looking over the building once more.
Ilyna nods. "I didn't mean to wake you up... if I did," she says and starts descending the stairs again.
Vasquez shakes her head, descending along with them. "Huh? Oh, no, I was just taking a shower... you, uh... showing her your workplace?" Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs she takes out a hairband from a pocket, starting to tie her hair up into her usual ponytail.
The notification for someone requesting access to the building would appear on the holo-interface in the mainframe room since the VI is not yet operational.
The lobby is fairly unremarkable, although the newly constructed building looks fresh and clean. There is the reception counter, and a waiting area with a few seats and plants. The corridor leads on down into the base proper. The conversation between Vasquez and Ilyna can likely be heard, if faintly.
Ilyna nods, again. "Yeah," she says. "Though, like I said, I'll be taking her to work every day for now."
Vasquez nods in return, offering Li a tentative smile before returning her focus to Ilyna. "She can stay in the break room upstairs, should be some things to do there - a TV at least."
Adam hums as he walks towards the voices. He checks himself a few paces on though, realising that it may not be a good idea if he, an armed stranger, started wandering through the headquarters. He clears his throat and calls down the corridor instead. "Hello?"
Ilyna looks towards the entrance. "That sounds great," she says. "It looks like someone wants your help, though, so we can check out the break room while you attend to him."
Vasquez walks past Ilyna, putting on a professional expression and stuffing the hairbrush into a pocket. "Who are you?"
Adam had turned around to look around the lobby again. At Vasquez's words, he pivots smartly on the spot. "Adam Barclay, ma'am. I'm Damien's brother," he replies in a crisp manner. His hands are clasped neatly behind his back and he stands with his feet roughly shoulder length apart. "May I enquire as to who you are, ma'am?"
Vasquez raises an eyebrow. "I'm Chief Vasquez. I run Redrock." She heads closer, stopping by one of the doors in the corridor. "Let's talk in my office." She says, before heading inside. Once out of Adam's sight she hurries her pace to reach her desk and take a seat, producing a handgun from one of the drawers and holstering it on her hip - not comfortable talking without a weapon.
Adam nods. "Of course." He follows her into her office, hearing the audible opening of a draw. He walks in, noting how she has already flown behind her desk and sat down. He takes a seat opposite, his back ramrod straight and hands folded in his lap. "Did I come at a bad time, Chief?" He asks.
Well... normally we don't allow armed strangers to roam around our base. But anyway, I assume you're here about your brother? I've been informed of his disappearance, but you should know I was away at the time.
Adam nods. "I apologise for the weapon, ma'am," he says. "And yes, my visit here today is related to my brothers disappearance. But I'm not here to parcel out the blame." He smiles reassuringly, though it is clear he is still quite troubled by the whole ordeal despite his best attempt at hiding it.
Adam clears his throat and continues. "I'm actually here to offer my services in his stead until he returns." He smiles slightly. "For free."
Adam chuckles faintly. "I know, that's probably not what you were expecting to hear. Allow me to explain. As I understand it, you are down a man and most of you returned from a mission which ended up with the vast majority in hospital." He rigidly maintains eye contact as he speaks, folding his arms across his chest. "So from the looks of things, you could use
Ilyna looks around the hallway once she reaches the second floor, looking for any indication of where the break room is.
I'm already employed by another company. I'm afraid I can't go into too much detail about my duties with them except that I am contracted to maintain their interests whenever I can. As I see it, working alongside Redrock... Or for you, however you want to put it, works perfectly.
Adam quirks an eyebrow. "You'll keep it in mind? No questions, no checking credentials, nothing?" Now it's his turn to look sceptical. "Either you are really desperate for help or you've already made up your mind and the answer is no."
Vasquez takes on an apologetic smile. "As I said, I'll keep your offer in mind, and get back to you later. Now, if that's all I have some work to do."
The break room is large, and features, among other things, a large TV and sofa, several tables, a bookshelf full of books, computer terminals and an air hockey table.
Adam inwardly curses. What did he expect, walking unannounced into their building. He smiles thinly and nods. "Of course. I apologise for both my intrusion and rudeness. I shouldn't have been so presumptuous," he says as he stands. "Enjoy the rest of your day, ma'am." He turns and begins to walks out of the office.
Ilyna raises her brows, looking quite impressed as she looks around the break room. "Not bad," she mutters. She then approaches the sofa.
Vasquez keeps her gaze on Adam as he makes his way out of the office, studying him thoughtfully. She says nothing as he leaves.
Adam exits into the lobby, rubbing his eyes tiredly. He sighs and walks over to the doors and palms the interface, not checking whether it is unlocked or not.
Adam exits Redrock and walks straight over to his bike, returning the weapon into the storage compartment and retrieving his helmet in the process. He pulls it on and hops onto his bike. He activates his omni-tool and his bike roars to life. He types in a single message and sends it, before gunning the throttle and speeding away.
