#Hospital – November 6, 2015
Another day has passed since the 'incident' with Skythix. Vasquez has been confined to another room while being treated for her concussion. Skythix has been put in a separate room, sedated and with her amp removed.
Zaylus is sitting up in his bed, gaze flickering between the doorway and the others present in the room. He's turning his hands over in front of him, somewhere between anxious and bored.
Li is sitting at the edge of the bed, having been even more reluctant than usual to leave Ilyna's side after the commotion of the day before.
Ilyna is currently typing on her omni-tool, occasionally glancing over at Li. She's been in the bed all day as per doctor's orders.
Vasquez enters the patient room, she's apparently managed to negotiate her way out of wearing a hospital gown, and is instead in her usual white tanktop and cargo pants. She looks around the room, and offers a faint but tired smile upon noticing Ilyna.
Ilyna looks up at Vasquez and returns the smile. "Good evening, Chief," she says. She taps a few times on her omni-tool and the interface disappears.
Vasquez continues to stand near the doorway, she gains a bit of an awkward look and nods to Ilyna. "T'Rea." she says, as if nothing was amiss. "Thank you." She looks to Zaylus and Pip. "All of you, for the extraction."
Pip starts at the sudden voice, blinking the sleep from her eyes. "Guh-wha? Oh... You're, uh, welcome," She says groggily.
Zaylus looks toward the woman, pausing a moment before nodding his response. "Yeah, no problem." He murmurs.
Ilyna tilts her head for a moment before Vasquez speaks. "I'm glad we got there in time," she says. "How are you holding up? I was told you were injuried in yesterday's incident."
Vasquez nods again. "Yes. I'm fine. Got knocked around a bit. Halisi told me that turian is one of ours... I think we might need to review hiring procedures."
Li wraps her arms around Ilyna's upper arm, hiding slightly behind the asari as the strange woman enters.
Zaylus lets out a quiet huff. "She was also on the extraction team." He says pointedly, then quickly lets his tone ease. "Though, you may be entitled to hold your thanks now."
Ilyna frowns. "I talked with Skythix the day before," she says. "Something is troubling her, but I don't want to talk about it behind her back. I did urge her to talk to Dr. Halisi about it, though."
Vasquez glances at Zaylus and Pip, but says nothing to them. She nods faintly at Ilyna's comment. "I'll... consult with the doctor." She takes another look around the room. "You guys got pretty banged up, huh? Is everyone recovering alright?"
Ilyna glances at Li. "It's alright, she's someone I work with; a friend," she says in a lowered voice before looking back at Vasquez. "I'm recovering fine," she replies. "I'm looking forward to being let out of here, though."
Vasquez smirks slightly. "Yeah, I don't blame you..." She leans a little to the side, looking at Li with a raised eyebrow. "Who's this?"
Vasquez offers a faint smile and steps a bit closer to Ilyna's bed. "Hello, Li. I'm Vasquez." She still seems a bit puzzled, her gaze returning to Ilyna once more. "I guess we have some catching up to do. That can wait though." She glances briefly at the others and then continues to the asari. "I wanted to thank you for helping Jason too, while I was... gone." Her focus changes as her gaze
Ilyna gives a small smile. "I assume I'll still be doing that once I'm out?" she says. "I would prefer that over field work, to be honest." She casts a slight glance at Li after speaking.
We can talk about that. I'll definitely need your help. There's a lot of work to be done to get Redrock back into shape.
Vasquez glances to the side, as if looking in the general direction of the building for a moment. "It-... it's looking great, actually." She just barely manages to supress a bright smile, fiddling with her hands in an uncharacteristic manner.
Ilyna nods. "I look forward to seeing it, then," she says. "I do expect a tour, though." She chuckles.
Vasquez nods in return, catching herself fiddling with her hands and ends up putting them behind her back instead, where the ring can't be seen. "I'm sure that can be arranged." She glances at Pip. "It does. I'm... not sure we've met?" She turns to face the fellow human.
Pip smiles. "Pip Summers. I'm a mechanic who just knows which way to hold a gun," she says with a small giggle. "I think Jason only hired me because of Watty."
Vasquez furrows her eyebrows. "I.. see." She looks briefly uncomfortable, and turns back to Ilyna. "Anything else before I go? I should get back to work... wasn't counting on being hospitalized overnight. We'll catch up more when you're out of here."
Ilyna shakes her head. "Nothing that cannot wait," she says. "I'll come by the office as soon as I can."
Vasquez nods. "Good. And... thank you. Again." She holds her gaze on Ilyna for a moment as if to show how serious she is, and then heads out the door after a puzzled glance at Li.
Ilyna raises a hand in a wave as she leaves. "See you," she says. She then looks towards Pip. "Mhm," she simply replies.
Ilyna wraps an arm over her shoulders. "I'm sure she likes you," she says with a smile. "She's just stressed out right now because of work."
Skythix would, upon waking, find herself in a bed in a small room, with no monitoring equipment currently in sight. A TV hangs on the wall and there is a basic armchair by the window. Halisi is standing next to the doorway, observing the turian in silence. She would find that her biotic amp has been removed.
Skythix groans quietly as consciousness comes to her. Where in the spirits name was she? She tried to think more clearly but a pounding headache made it nearly impossible for her to do anything other than focus on trying to make it not hurt her entire body. She opened her green eyes slowly to a sight that she couldn't identify. Was she home? No, this wasn't her bedroom and she was pretty sure
the human standing in the room as well wasn't part of it. Her mind quickly started catching up as she tried to turn towards the figure. "Halisi?" She said with a raspy throat, still coated in sleep.
Halisi nods, studying her patient with a neutral expression. "Skythix. It became necessary to sedate you. It may take a while for your mind to clear."
Skythix | Sedate? A whisper in the back of her mind warned her that that meant she was still in the hospital. She pushed back the fight or flight instinct, not that it would do her any good considering her body felt like jelly. "What happened?" She asked with worry in her voice. She couldn't recall anything from the last twenty four hours.
You panicked. Attacked the Chief. Gave her quite the concussion. I had to sedate you before you hurt anyone else.
Skythix blinked. What did she do? Wait, what chief? She hadn't been with her kebalim in a while. "I-I What?" She said before sitting up onto her elbows to look more clearly at Halisi. A dull throbbing in her side reminded her of the injury she sustained before. "What do you mean I attacked someone?"
Halisi speaks in an even tone, her hands at her sides. "Biotically. You lashed out. I've removed your amplifier so it doesn't happen again. But I'm hoping we can have a calm conversation."
Skythix could feel her heart beating hard in her chest in panic. Her hand unconsciouslly moved to the back of her head but only made it half way before she put it back onto the bed as if she were afraid to confirm it was really gone. She suddenly cringed in pain as her headache flared. It was accompanied by the image of a gun being pointed at her by a figure she only knew as terrifying. She
Halisi nods. "Alright. Now... is there something you'd like to tell me? I've reached out to the Hierarchy for your psychological profile, but they're reluctant to deal with a Terminus Systems doctor."
Skythix couldn't help but let out a huff of a laugh. "Yeah, the Hierarchy isn't going to part with someone like that so easily." She attempted to deflect whatever happened with humor but even she didn't believe herself. Wait why did she want her psych profile? Her face looked crestfallen as she tried to maintain eye contact with the doctor. "I don't know what's there to be said. What exactly
Halisi raises an eyebrow. "You attacked your employer with lethal force-..." She pauses and furrows her eyebrows. "Not that uncommon in the Terminus Systems I suppose, but I'm not under the impression it was deliberate. And then you tried to run away from the hospital..."
Skythix's eyes slowly grew wider and her mandibles drooped as Halisi began to explain what had happened. Had she really done that? "I-I..." She tried to bring the words out but she couldn't even fathom what her memory was slowly bringing back to her. She suddenly started remembering a strong sense of fear and panic. Even now she was recollecting the energy used for her biotics. For some
reason the word's 'plague' and 'torture' were playing back in her head but she couldn't connect why. "If by employer do you mean Jason?"
Halisi shakes her head. "No, Chief Vasquez." She looks a bit puzzled. "Are... you a new addition to Redrock? They co-founded it, Jason and her."
Skythix knew that Jason and Vasquez were together but she didn't know that the woman was actually her superior. She frowned at Halisi. "Yes, I am. I remember talking to you a few weeks ago at Miner's Respite soon after I just signed the papers." She remembered the mission where they rescued Vasquez but that wasn't her objective and she was so loaded on stimulants on the ride back and the geth
attack that she was surprised she could even remember who she sat next to on the ship. "Is she okay?"
Skythix breathed a small sigh of relief. "That's good." At least she wasn't stupid and killed someone in some kind of fucked up haze that she can't even remember. She paused, looking at the ground. "Does that mean I can leave soon, too?" She wanted nothing more than to just finally leave the hospital.
Halisi shakes her head. "Not yet. You're far from recovered, and you should be monitored for at least 5 more days. Also... I'm not particularly keen on releasing you before we clear up what happened yesterday. The Chief has already asked me about your mental state, and I do share her concerns."
Skythix clenched her mandibles to her face. There was nothing wrong with her mental state! She also knew subconsciously that she wasn't going to her out any time soon. Shit, if her boss thought she was messed up in the head or something then that was a fast track to being fired. "Can I please talk to her? Let me prove to her that I'm fine."
She said she'd discuss what happened with you once you're released from here. And until then, well... it would be helpful if you could explain what happened. I'll be reporting to her as well, so if there's anything you can say to dispel my concerns...
Skythix cursed to herself. She had nothing against Halisi but she was tired of this damn hospital and everything in it. She raised her shoulders and shook her head with her mouth hanging open like she was trying to say something but couldn't. "I don't know what happened!" She thought she was answering truthfully. She had a vague memory of attacking someone but couldn't remember details. "The
Halisi nods faintly. "Alright. I believe you." She sighs, her gaze leaving the turian briefly. "It's times like this I regret we don't have a psychologist on staff. You have to understand what happened is concerning. Another outburst like that could kill someone."
Skythix felt like she was being tested. 'Don't fuck up again Teratus or it's your hide'. "Can't you just do a brain scan or something to prove I'm fine?" She was starting to get impatient. She needed to get out of this damn hospital. "And isn't an extra five days a little much?"
Halisi raises an eyebrow. "Oh, it's not extra. That's just the time you have left on your treatment and monitoring before you're ready to leave. You're injured."
Skythix's face fell again at the realization that she was supposed to still be here. She might never know what really happened during her brief psychosis but she knew one thing and that was to get out of the damn hospital. She looked around the room. "And yet I'm noticing a suspicious lack of monitoring equipment." She knew her side still hurt but she didn't care. Her mind was screaming
Halisi offers a reassuring smile. "It's... quite clear you're not very comfortable in a hospital environment, so I wanted to talk with you before hooking the monitoring equipment back up. In addition, you'll be staying in this room now, I was hoping you'd feel more at ease here. On the nightstand you'll find an omni-tool with a number of turian entertainment programs installed. Mostly strategy
and arena fighters, but there's some other things too. I wasn't sure what you like." She studies Skythix for her reaction, a hopeful expression on her face.
Skythix raised her brow plates slightly and sat up in the bed in response to being told she was going to be in her own room. It at least didn't feel like she was still in the hospital to be prospect of being alone in a room for five days didn't make her feel any better. She could see that Halisi was trying her best to make her more comfortable but she felt anything but. She was trained to be
on a hair trigger and being here was making her permanently tense. "Thank you, doctor." She muttered while looking down at her lap. She had no desire to watch anything. She was filled with too much shame.
Halisi nods yet again. "Just use the omni-tool to call the nurse if you need anything. I'll be occupied with the move. Someone will be bringing in the monitoring equipment soon." She turns towards the door, taking a step and then stopping. "Anything I can do before I go?"
Skythix let out a gruff laugh. "Yeah, you can let me leave." She said with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "And maybe let me speak to Vasquez so I can apologize." She hated feeling so vulnerable and the fact that this all started because she's apparently insane wasn't helping her mood at all.
Halisi smirks faintly, but it is almost immediately replaced by a worried look. "You know I can't do that, you're not well enough. I'll see about getting Vasquez to come visit though." She steps out the door, which closes behind her.
Skythix watched the door close behind the doctor before looking back at the far wall in her bed. She brought her knees up to her chest and rested her head on them. "Fuck." She muttered into the sheets.
