#RedrockAgency – February 11, 2016
Jason would be alerted about a transmission from Renala T'Iavay, which is flagged as urgent. The asari had set up a preconfigured secure channel for field agents to use to communicate with the base. Current time is 2 hours into the afternoon, roughly 7 hours since anyone heard anything from the asari.
Jason is seated at his desk, dressed in a simple white long-sleeved shirt and black fatigues with his boots propped up on his desk. The light snoring comes to an abrupt stop as his terminal begins to beep. He wipes at his eyes with the back of his hand and opens the transmission. "Renala?" he asks, "Uhh... What's so urgent? Kinda busy right now. Lots of work... Everything alright?"
A video feed of Renala shows up after a few seconds. She is in a forest with a cliffside to her right. "I have located the car," she says in a low voice, "but I saw a shuttle drop a guy off up ahead, so I moved back." The asari seems to be wearing her leather jacket, and not a proper suit of armor. Some gusts of wind can be heard on the audio feed, and the clouds above looks like there'll be rain any minute now.
Jason blinks a few times, still not entirely awake. "Car-...?" he repeats. A small tuft of hair is sticking pretty much straight up on his head. "Oh! Car! Right! Wha-.... Shuttle? I'm not following. Where is the car?"
Renala nods. "My drone just got into position," she says followed by a few taps on her omni-tool. "Forwarding the feed now."
Another video feed shows. It overlooks the sky-car from a clifftop to the south of it. There is some trees to the left and in front, and a steep rocky hill to the right. There's a limited view of the ground south of the vehicle. There is an turian in a full black suit of armor with orange trims inspecting the car. There is also an Avenger resting against it, and he has a holstered pistol.
Jason studies the feed for a few moments before shaking his head. "I don't understand what I'm looking at here, Renala. Who are they and why is the car with them? What is this all about?" he asks, a bit of frustration in his voice at being in the dark over everything. "Did you sell the car to them?" he probes.
Renala shakes her head. "I disposed of the car here in hopes of nobody finding it," she says, still keeping her voice low. "I didn't sell it to anyone, so I have no fucking clue why he even found it." She sighs, and adds, "I need some backup over here before he takes off with it."
Jason groans and reaches for his omni-tool. "All this because you had to go and steal a car..." he mutters. "Leah has been bothering me to get her back in action. I'll send her and Mendez. Is that gonna be enough? Did you get eyes on whoever was in the shuttle?"
Renala looks up, as a raindrop hits her and starts running down her left cheek. "I don't think my prototype is water-proof," she adds. "I'll keep the feed open for as long as I can, though."
Jason goes quiet for a few moments. "We don't have a lot of options. Look, just hang tight. I'll get whoever I can out there. But you know the moment that our shuttle shows up, they're gonna be alerted to our presence, right?"
Renala nods. "I know," she says. "But they'll have their eyes in the sky." She taps on her omni-tool and the video feed of her disappears, but the drone's camera is still being forwarded, as is her voice when she adds, "Might give me a chance to move the drone up close to lock down the car further."
The turian is still by the car, at the door. His omni-tool shows up, and he has two fingers at his ears. The drone's video feed offers no audio, however.
Jason nods a couple times to himself. "Just stay where you are for now. I'll have backup there ASAP. Do your best to avoid confrontation when they arrive. We don't want to get involved in a fight if we don't need to, alright?" The frustration creeps back into his voice, "Such a clusterfuck..."
