#Hospital – February 21, 2016

Renala has been placed in a six-bed recovery room with a window overlooking the town. Her bed is closest to the door on the right. Simple dividers separate the patients from each other - there are three others aside from Renala, two on her side and one at the far corner from her. She's been kept in the bed awaiting her awakening. She is decidedly not dying. There is no monitoring device hooked up to her.

Jason arrives at the hospital with Jasper, who drops Jason off at the front door before seeking out a place to park the shuttle. After hopping out of the vehicle, Jason makes his way through the front doors and heads straight for the room Renala has been placed in, information relayed to him by Mendez and Leah's after they brought Renala in. He gives a courtesy knock on the door before

stepping inside and glancing about until he spots the asari.

Renala wakes up just a few seconds before Jason's arrival and turns to the side and reaches for thin air, seemingly unaware of her location. It doesn't look like she's noticed Jason yet.

Jason raises an eyebrow, an amused expression on his face as he watches the asari grasp at ghosts. "I'm not interesting some creepy dream, am I?" he asks, moving towards Renala with a smirk on his face, "If you need some alone time I can just, you know-..." he thumbs back towards the door, "...come back later?"

Renala starts to sti up. "No, no, I'm awake," she mumbles. She looks down at the bed, and it finally registers in her mind that she is at a hospital. "How.... What happened?"

Jason shrugs as he reaches for a nearby chair and drags it beside Renala's bed, causing a loud, unbearable screech to ring out. He winces and glances around the room. "...Sorry." he offers before plopping down on the chair. "No idea. Haven't spoken to the doctor yet. Leah and Mendez said you were injected with something but, hey, you seem to be alright. How do you feel?"

Halisi enters the room, datapad in hand. Upon noticing that Jason is already with Renala she stays a step back so as to not interrupt.

Renala sighs. "I feel like shit," she says before looking back up at Jason. "How long have I been out?"

Jason gives a slight shrug as he glances over at Halisi, acknowledging her with a nod, "Few hours. On the bright side, you guys managed to get the car back. It's a little worse for wear, but beggars can't be choosers, right?"

Halisi takes a step closer, offering Renala a reassuring smile. "You're going to be fine. You were poisoned. We've counteracted the toxin without trouble, however there is something else in your blood as well - we haven't been able to identify the substance, but it seems to be some sort of tranquilizer. It should wear off in time, but we are uncertain how long it will take."

Renala is about to give Jason an answer when the doctor stepped forth, and she frowns at her report. "No other injuries, though?" she asks. "I don't remember how I was knocked out, or who did it."

Jason whistles at the mention of poison. "Tranquilizer? Well, shit. Suppose that means the vehicles of Freedom Falls are safe for now with you off the streets, then." he jokes, although casts a very accusatory glance at Renala.

Halisi raises a finger as if asking them to wait, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a small plastic baggie which she holds up for Renala to see - it contains a tiny, needle-like object. "I believe it has something to do with this."

Renala gives a weak snort at Jason's joke, but no further response. She looks at the plastic bag with a tilted head. "I guess," she says. "Where did you find it?"

Jason folds his arms across his chest and sits back in his seat as he listens, but offers no further comment.

Halisi retracts her arm, putting the bag back in her pocket. "Your neck."

Renala frowns. "Fuck..., that must be it, then," she says. "I tear down cheap pieces of electronics every now and then, so I would blame that if it was in my foot, but there's no chance anything could have gotten into my neck without my knowing." She moves a hand up to trace around her neck trying to find any sign of where it could have been.

Jason remains silent until Renala finishes speaking. "And you have no idea who they were...? How much do you remember of what happened?"

Renala shakes her head. "I think Mendez recognized one of them: the turian," she says, "but I can't remember if he said where he recognized him from."

Jason gives a nod. "Yeah, Mendez said he was the asshole from Uvena's place. But what about the others?" he asks, "Recognize any of them? What were they wearing? Any insignia?"

Halisi listens to the two talk for a bit, but soon finds herself glancing at her datapad. "You stay out of trouble now, and just tell the VI if you need anything, I need to check in on my other patients." She excuses herself with a rushed smile and leaves the room.

Renala looks down at the bed for a moment, trying to recall. She mutters, "Alright", in response to Halisi before looking back up at Jason. "One of the last things I remember was his warning that the turian was moving closer to my position. I didn't remember seeing anyone else."

Jason gives Halisi an appreciative nod then returns his attention to Renala. "Do you think they were working with the turian? Mendez said he claimed to be with the militia... I don't exactly want to poke a varren den, but maybe I should just go and speak to them...?" he says, but it comes out as more of a question, as if asking for her input.

Renala nods. "That may be a good idea," she says, "but... why would the militia involve themselves in this?"

Jason sighs and gives a shake of his head. "I have no idea. Thought they were above playing the goon squad for someone else... Either way, we need to get ahead of this before it gets out of hand. I'll have Mendez come with me to have a little chat with them. See what this is all about and how we can fix this before someone goes too far."

You said you recovered the vehicle, can't you deliver it to its rightful owner and tell them to call this off?

Sure... But considering they had found the car and were still shooting at you guys, something tells me the car alone isn't going to be enough to put a cap on all of this. I'd rather cover my bases before we wind up fighting an entire militia...

Renala sighs. "Don't think we'd win that fight, seeing as they've saved our asses... twice now?"

Neither do I. All the more reason to make sure it doesn't come to that.

Jason sighs. "We seem to do a good job of getting ourselves into one thing after the next..."

Renala nods. "Yeah," she sighs, "and we always get out on top."

Jason narrows his eyes on Renala. "Don't get too overconfident. That's the sort of attitude that gets people killed. And over what? A fucking skycar!?" He goes quiet for a moment and lets out a long sigh, "Are you ready to tell me what this was all about in the first place, Renala?"

Renala frowns, then nods. "Fine, I owe you that much," she says. The asari is quiet for a few seconds, picking her words as her mind works at half-speed. "I was on my way home from work when a friend sent me a message. They needed extraction, and five minutes ago. There simply was no time to call in Jasper. I had to be descreet too, and not involve anyone else... not even a taxi driver."

Jason blinks a couple of times. "O....kay. Why?" he says plainly, "What are you involved in that requires so much secrecy?"

Renala is quiet for a few moments. "He trusted nobody else," she simply answers.

Jason looks up towards the ceiling and groans loudly. "Are you going to tell me what in the hell this is about or not?" he asks. "What did you get yourself into?" He returns his gaze to the asari and leans forward, lowering his voice a bit, "Look... You know I take care of my employees. But I can't help you if you won't tell me what's going on."

Renala sighs. "His past had cought up with him," she says. "Someone was following him around town, so he took them out when they cornered him. He needed to get the bodies out without leaving any witnesses." She pauses for a few seoncds before adding, "My involvement began and ended with that."

Jason winces at the mention of body disposal. "Fuck, Renala..." he groans. He brings a hand up to his forehead for a moment before running it through his hair and letting out a deep breath. "And you're sure you're not going to be dragged in any deeper? How do you know that nobody will find out about your involvement-..." he pauses, "How do you know this blown out situation doesn't have

something to do with all of that? Who were these' bodies' you got rid of?"

Renala shakes her head. "This isn't the place to go into detail about them," she says, "but I can assue you they were not militia."

Jason glances around and nods slightly. "Fine... But as soon as you're out of here, we're gonna have a little talk about this. I can't have my employees running around-..." he stops and looks around the room once more, opting to lower his voice, "I can't have my employees running around and disposing of fucking bodies, Renala."

Renala frowns. "It's a thing that happened once, and it had nothing to do with the agency," she says. "It was just bad luck that the first car in sight was our client's."

Jason stares at Renala in silence for a few moments before responding. "Right. Had nothing to do with the Agency. Yet here we are. Like it or not, you involved the Agency. It's not in your control, Renala. Whatever you get dragged into will involve us. What if Mendez would've died getting that dumb car back? Or Leah? Or you, for that matter?" He leans back and shakes his head, suddenly

feeling as if he may be getting a bit too preachy. "Look. I'm not trying to rip into you... I'm just saying consider the fallout of this kind of shit before you go.... dumping bodies."

Renala sighs. "Yeah, you're right," she says. "It's not in my control." She pauses and looks down. "I'm trying to walk the line between giving you too little to go on and fucking things up for my friend here."

Jason slowly nods to himself. "I.... I get that, Renala. I do." he sighs, considering all the stupid shit he's done for friends, "I just want to make sure everyone is safe. That's all. I'm not trying to dig into your friend's business, but this is serious shit. I mean, now we're butting heads with the militia. Look, just get some rest and we can talk about this when you're out. It's all on

the table now, and if you say this is the full extent of it, I'm gonna go against my better judgement for now and trust you. I'll stop prying. Just don't make me regret this..."

Let's hope it's not the militia, then. I still don't understand how stolen property would be worth their time.

We'll find out soon enough. As soon as you're out of that hospital bed and feeling up to it, I'd like you to accompany me and Mendez to meet with them. See what their stake is in all of this, alright?

Renala nods. "We'll see how fast this toxin wears off," she says. "I guess I won't be stuck in here for long, though, because they haven't wired me up for monitoring."

Jason nods in turn. "Just keep me updated if anything changes, alright?" he says, standing slowly from his seat. It's been a long day and he's definitely beginning to feel the effects of it. "I should get back to the office. And for fuck's sake, just call for a ride home when they release you!" he says. Joking.... Mostly.

Renala chuckles. "I'll try to keep that in mind," she says, her groggy voice not making it very clear whether she's joking. "Before you go..., did Mendez and Leah pick up any of my stuff before they left?"

Jason furrows his brow. "What stuff are you talking about?"

My backpack, and that drone providing the video feed.

Jason slowly shakes his head. "Uhh... no? I don't think so. I can have them head back to the site and look for it if it's important..."

Renala hums. "I'm not entirely sure what's in my backpack, but I think there's a storage device there that has some information valuable to a potential enemy," she says. "It's not a key to our office by any means, but it's information about some of the hardware and software we're running." She pauses. "The drone... well, I just need to remove something on our end and it shouldn't be a problem anymore. I don't know if it's even working

anymore."

Jason groans at the mention of the information being valuable to potential enemies. "One thing after another... Alright, I'll send Mendez back out to look for it, Renala. If he can't find it, this isn't something that's gonna come back to bite us, is it? It's something you can fix, right?"

Renala looks thoughtful for a moment. "The information is like knowing that there is a krogan battlemaster on a mission," she says. "The knowledge alone won't take that krogan down, but you'll plan around him, make sure you know his weakness, and so on."

Jason sighs and nods, pleased to have it explained to him as if he was an idiot. "Well, like I said, I'll send Mendez out to look for it, alright? If possible, I'd prefer to keep my krogan battlemaster in my pants until absolutely necessary." he says as he takes a step towards the door. He suddenly pauses with his back to Renala and gives a short chuckle as he realizes what he just said.

"Krogan battlemaster in my-.... Hehe.... I'll talk to you later, Renala."

Renala chuckles. "I'll see you later, boss," she says before laying back down. It doesn't take long before she starts looking around for her omni-tool, however.

Renala's omni-tool sits on top of a small locker/table next to her bed.

Renala sits up again and tries reaching for it without getting out of the bed.

The omni-tool falls on the floor.

Jason reaches the door as he hears the omni-tool skitter to the floor and turns around. "Come on.." he says, jogging over to scoop up the omni-tool and pass it to Renala, "...Don't go hurting yourself." He takes a step back and sighs, "And you just ruined a great krogan-dong-joke-exit..."

Renala takes the omni-tool. "I'm sorry, I am unfamiliar with social norms surrounding krogan-dong-joke-exits," she jokes, offering a small smile. "Thanks."

Jason gives a short chuckle and a nod. "Yeah, don't mention it..." he says as he turns to leave. "Now get some rest!"

Renala starts her omni-tool and is greeted with the login prompt. "Yeah, yeah," she says.
