#RedrockAgency – May 7, 2016
Nathan stands up from his seat and looks towards the door after Jason marched out. "I'll chat to you in a bit, Cynthia. But first, I gotta go run an idea by the Chief and hope she'll be on board with it."
Cynthia gives a light shrug. "Uh-huh. Later, Ten." she says before turning her attention back to the screen as the documentary details rule changes to the sport in the wake of humanity joining the galactic community. (Linda_Vasquez)
Nathan nods and walks out, careful to make sure he doesn't run into anybody. After making sure that there will be no collisions, he starts to head down towards the offices, running over what he'll say in his head.
Nathan walks over and reaches Vasquez's door. He raps his knuckles on the door out of habit and waits for a response.
Vasquez is sitting in her chair behind the desk as the door opens, turned around to look out the window. She swivels the chair around as Nathan enters, raising an eyebrow. "Yes, Tennhausen?"
Nathan steps inside, a polite smile on his face. "Hey, Chief. Mind if I run something by you?" He asks, keeping his gaze firmly on Vasquez.
Vasquez immediately gains a faint, skeptical frown. She rolls her chair closer to the desk and plants her elbows on it. "Alright, let's hear it."
Nathan steps towards her desk and remains stood. "I'll get straight to the point, Chief. The hangar is looking empty and I believe I have a way of filling it with some hardware," he explains as he calls up his haptic interface, awkwardly using it with one hand. A projection of an A-61 Mantis is shown and Nathan nods towards it. "Specifically, one of these. Now, I
know what you're going to say. These things are expensive. But, after talking with Wolfe and Jasper, I know a way we can get once of these cheap and barebones. It'll basically be Ol' Betsy mark II. We take it and rig it up ourselves."
Vasquez 's gaze moves to the projection as it appears, and she looks it over for a moment before looking back to Nathan. "A gunship? Okay... and how, in your opinion, would owning one of these benefit Redrock?"
Nathan keeps the projection up as he explains. "Well, for one it would be quick response support for any personnel in the field. It's versatile and able to be reconfigured quickly for a variety of roles. It's a second transport for Redrock. And, at least in my perspective, it'll open up other lanes of revenue for the company. Make us seem more serious in various
Vasquez nods along slowly, her eyebrow rising again when he finishes. "We really don't have the means to reconfigure a vehicle like that, but I could see the use of something that could provide fire support. We do perform missions in the local area every now and then... you say you know how to get one? Elaborate."
Through contacts established during my lone wolf years in the Terminus. A junker who knows how to acquire almost anything and everything. He'll get us a Mantis cheap, but we'll be responsible for arming it. In that regard, I still have contacts in Sandbeck who would be able to provide us means of fixing it up and arming it. One of them is already on her way
Vasquez lets out an unimpressed grunt and leans back in her seat. "So you can get us a piece of junk. That we'll have to rebuild ourselves? Is that it?"
Nathan shakes his head. "Only the weapons and armour. It'll probably come in about the same condition as the Kodiak is in now. Maybe slightly less." He dissipates the interface and sighs quietly. "Honestly, it'll work out cheaper for Redrock if we do it this way. I understand this isn't the best sales pitch ever, Chief, but I'm telling you it how it is. Instead of
forking out for a full priced Mantis, we could end up paying just a quarter of that, maybe even less, once Jasper and I are finished." He then smiles faintly. "Wolfe likes the idea," he adds. "He told us to run it by you."
Vasquez remains skeptical, and lets out another grunt at the mention of Jason, although her expression softens slightly. "...no armor? The plating's been stripped?" She lets out a heavy sigh. "And the two of you think you can get it in working order that much cheaper?
Nathan shrugs lightly. "Most of it, yeah. If you give the go ahead, I'll try and arrange for it to be in a slightly more serviceable condition." At her latter question, he nods firmly, confidently. "Damn right we can, Chief. I wouldn't be pitching this if I didn't believe that."
I'll... consider it. But I'll need a full price estimate and details on the current and target condition of the vehicle as well as your contact in Sandbeck by tomorrow, understood?
Nathan lowers his hand. "Well, now that you mention it... My contact. She's bringing one of Sandbeck's sales ships with her. So while she's fixing my armour, Sandbeck can sell of some of their weapons and armour. It might be worthwhile for you and Jason to have a look, see if there's anything that can flush out the armoury." He smiles. "Just a suggestion. That's
Vasquez raises an eyebrow. "Your ex-employer is sending a ship all the way out here to patch up your armor?"
Nathan looks slightly uncomfortable. "Well... Not exactly. My contact is out here under the guise that she's trying to expand Sandbeck influence and reach. Y'know, advertisement for their weapons and armour. They... Have no clue about me."
Vasquez 's frown returns. "Right..." she studies Nathan in silence for a couple of seconds. "I trust this won't be an issue?"
Vasquez nods faintly. "Alright then." She gestures towards the door before turning her attention to her screen.
