#Miner'sRespite – June 17, 2017

Retcon

This session was forgotten about. After doing a two-parter with the same purpose before finding this one, we decided to retcon it.

It's a quiet midday and there's only a handful of patrons about, the winter making people reluctant to go out for lunch. The weather outside is clear and sunny, though the bitter cold breeze serves to keep it from being pleasant.

Va'ynna is standing behind the bar, fighting to keep herself awake through the uneventful shift at the Respite. The asari is idly reading something on her omni-tool, not even bothering to look up as she'd hear anyone approach anyway. She's wearing her usual dark green dress with slightly brighter trims and patterns here and there.

Victoria walks into the Respite, most of her clothing was hidden due to the black long coat she was wearing. She waited at the main entrance for her sister, she noticed Va'ynna was at the bar but she waited for her sister to enter before doing anything else.

Sarah entered shortly after her older sister did, and she followed her to the bar. Both of them taking a seat, "I hope you did not bring me to a bar, so you could get a drink. When I was talking to your employer, he implied you had a drinking problem."

Va'ynna perks up at the sound of the door opening, her omni-tool's projection fading out to hide her previous inattetnion. A wide smile crosses her lips when she sees who it is, and she's quick to slip out of the bar and weave between empty tables as she crosses the room. "Hey!" she says, only managing a slight cheer in her fatigued state. "I'm Va'ynna." She extends her hand towards the unfamiliar woman Victoria

just spoke to.

Victoria groans "I'm not a..." She stops herself when Va'ynna is already introducing herself and smiles "Let me introduce my partner, Va'ynna." She turns her head to her sister "And Va'ynna, this is my sis..." Victoria was interrupted before she could finish the introductions.

Sarah was surprised by the asari approaching them quite rapidly, but after Vicky's introduction it made sense to her. Half way through her introduction she interrupted Vicky and took a hold of Va'ynna's hand. "Sarah Murphy, Victoria's younger sister." The two look quite similar, the only clear difference being age and hair colour.

Va'ynna smiles and takes her hand with both hands. It's not quite the hug she deep down wants to give her, but she wants to show her appreciation somehow. "It's... nice to meet you, Sarah," she says. "Victoria told me about you, I.... It's wonderful what you're doing." She lets go of her hand and steps aside to let them further in. "Can I get you two something?"

Victoria shakes her "Nah, I am fine." She smiles at the interaction between the two so far.

Sarah smiles at the asari "Thank you, I just felt I would be more useful out here compared to the Citadel." She then shakes her head "No, thank you. I am fine, but I do have a question." She looks at Victoria for a second and then back to Va'ynna "Her employer said she has a drinking problem, is that true or was he joking?" Victoria just groans after hearing that question asked.

Va'ynna raises an eyebrow at the question. "I... No, she does not," she says with a slight nod. "Unless she's really good at hiding it." She gives a weak giggle and gestures towards one of the tables near the the right end of the bar. "I heard you work at the hospital," she tries to change the topic, "what... do you do there?"

Victoria gives a sigh of relief from Va'ynna looking out for her. She starts slowly making her way to the table, she did not think it would appropriate for her to say anything at this time.

"That is good to hear, he sounded serious when he said she had a drinking problem." She begins to make her way to the table as well. "Oh, well I'm a doctor. Did not want to stay on the Citadel, when there are others out there that need more help."

Va'ynna can't help but give a faint laugh before she finally answers her question. Whether that's because of her pressing th etopic, or that Jason is a poor authority on drinking problems will remain a mystery. She assumed it was Jason anyway, as she couldn't imagine the chief knew Victoria well. "How long have you worked here?" she says, "and did you come here before... you knew Victoria lived here?" She follows

them to the table and takes a seat next to Victoria.

Victoria remained quiet to allow the two to get to know one another.

Sarah sat across from Victoria and Va'ynna shook her head "Not long at all, and the reason I came here was because I found out she lived here." She shifted in her seat a little to get comfortable. "I feel like we have only been talking about me. How about you tell me about yourself, Va'ynna?"

Va'ynna looks down for a moment, frowning. "I'm... not that interesting to talk about," she says. "I work in a bar from morning to midnight, and... the rest of the time I sleep." While that's not all she does in normal circumstances, Aylena's absense has already been long enough for the asari to consider it almost normal. She opens her mouth to say something, but she closes it again. "Sorry, I... I didn't mean to

sound so negative, it's just..., I'm exhausted."

Sarah nods "No, no it is alright. Working long hours can do that. From what I hear from Victoria, it sounds like you are running the place at the moment."

Victoria puts an arm around Va'ynna's shoulders "She is a hard worker, but she does not like giving herself credit."

Va'ynna shakes her head, her cheek growing a slightly deeper shade of purple. "I... can't manage this place," she says. "I know how to delegate, take inventory and store supplies properly, but... not accounting, negotiating, the thing I'd need an education for. This place would... crumble if D'Inea disappeared for good."

"Well, why don't you get the education to run a place like this? Even if you don't use that education to run a place like this, the skills would still be valuable to have."

Victoria gives the asari a nudge "I would listen to the doctor."

Va'ynna raises an eyebrow. She also appear slightly tense, clearly indicating that it's not a topic she's comfortable talking about. "I'm... I'm not a salarian," she says. "I would... never find the time to keep pace with any formal education." She looks towards the bar and sighs. "And, well... I'm not sure I want to manage a place like this."

Sarah was about to say something else but her omni-tool started to beep and she looks at it. "Ah, sorry to cut things short. But I should head back home, so I can get ready for work." She stands up and offers a hand to Va'ynna "It was nice meeting you, Va'ynna."

Victoria looks at Sarah "I'll talk to you later, Sarah." The younger human just nodded.

Va'ynna tilts her head, all but saying 'already?'. She takes her hand after a second pass and shakes it gently. "You too, Sarah, I'll see you again," she says, though an amused smile creeps up. "Well, hopefully not at your work."

Sarah nods "Hopefully not at my work. Have a good afternoon you two." She began to leave the Respite.

Victoria gives a smile as Sarah leaves, and then looks at Va'ynna. "That went well, right? Not me hoping it went well and it did not go well."

Va'ynna shifts her weight onto Victoria, and rests her head on her shoulder. "Mhm, she's... just like you said she was, nice, thoughtful...," she says, but stops herself and changes the topic. "She seems really worried about your... drinking, though." The asari closes her eyes, not letting Victoria know about her nefarious scheme involving a much needed nap.

Victoria left her arm around Va'ynna's shoulder. "Well, I am glad it went well." She stops for a second when her drinking gets brought up. "Blame Jason. All I am saying about that, he probably said I get drunk all the time."

Va'ynna gives a small smile, but Victoria's questions receive no verbal answer as sleep comes easily to the tired and exhausted asari.

Victoria upon hearing no words from the asari, Victoria decides to remain sitting and allow the asari to have a much needed nap.
