#Halisi'sApartment – July 11, 2018
Ilyna lets out a deep, frustrated sigh. "I don't know," she says. "She wasn't herself on the trip back, but who was?" Ilyna walks around to take a seat in the couch. "I'm sorry if I'm not much help," she says. "I slept poorly last night, my body aches from the fight, my neck feels a little worse too. I worry about Ehanis, about Li, about...." She trails off to let out another sigh, not looking up from the
floor. "You're right, she could be a threat," she says, "but I'm in no shape to talk to her tonight."
Halisi briefly places one of her hands on Ilyna's shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Take it easy... I'm sure Redrock can help." Her gaze wanders over to the window and the darkness outside as unease crosses her expression. "With everything that's-... I don't think we should take any chances." she says quietly. "I can make the call, alright? You should rest." she offers with a soft smile, looking down at Ilyna.
Ilyna looks up at her as she feels the hand on her shoulder, listening to her. "Thank you," she says, barely above a whisper. "I... wish I didn't have to make your busy day worse, though." She looks back down at the screen, placing a hand on her neck.
Halisi is quick to shake her head. "Don't be silly. You have no control over this." she says, her weariness replaced by purpose at the news of what's happened. She steps away towards the kitchenette as she types on her omni-tool, turning to look out the window when she makes the call. "Fergus, I need to speak with Chief Vasquez. It's important."
Ilyna is about to dispute that, but when Halisi walks away she refrains from speaking. She picks up the remote and shuts off the screen, but she keeps looking ahead. Ilyna promised Li she'd be right back, but it would also be wrong to leave Halisi to coordinate this entirely while Ilyna slept, so right now she stays where she is.
Halisi waits in silence for a moment until Vasquez' voice comes over the other end of the call. "Hello? Yes, it's about what happened to Ilyna today. Shouldn't Redrock be doing something?" A pause as she waits for a response. "No, not-... about the attack! She said she told you." Her eyebrows furrow as another pause follows. "What? No, Ehanis' roommate... Mian...?" She glances over towards Ilyna as if looking for confirmation that
she got the name right. "...she tried to kill her when she went there to ask questions about Ehanis." A briefer pause and a quick "Hold-... hold on." before she mutes her omni-tool and looks over at Ilyna. "Vasquez says she didn't know...?"
Ilyna doesn't show a reaction to Halisi's search for confirmation, but the question makes stand up from the couch and walks closer to her so she can keep her voice low. "I... suppose I didn't say it clear enough to her," she says. "I said it was too dangerous to continue question her, though. That was what I meant with that."
Halisi furrows her eyebrows slightly, studying Ilyna for a moment before unmuting the call. She doesn't voice her confusion right now. "I-... I don't know. I suppose there was a misunderstanding." she says instead. "Yes. I didn't want-... she needs to rest." A pause. "Okay. Good. I'll ask." she says, a hint of relief in her voice as she ends the call.
Ilyna tilts her head, not seeing why Halisi would be confused, but even as the call ends she does not seek clarification. Instead, she looks expectantly at Halisi and asks, "What does she plan to do?" She closes her eyes briefly before forcing them open again.
Halisi lowers her omni-tool before responding. "She's preparing a team to go detain this Mian and get answers. She asked if you have any useful information for the team."
Ilyna shakes her head. "I've never seen her like that before," she says, "so I'm afraid I cannot say more than to be careful." Ilyna averts her gaze for a moment, rubbing her neck as she tries to recall what she knows about Mian. "Oh, she worked for the militia when I lived with her, but... I don't know if she still does."
Halisi listens in silence, giving a small nod once done and activating her typing interface. "I'll let them know."
Ilyna nods before turning and taking slow steps towards the bathroom. It's not right for her to sleep while Vasquez — whose is under similar, if not worse pressure — sorts this out. She would be useless in combat, and leaving would be betraying her promise to Li, whom Ilyna has hurt enough today. She enables her omni-tool and puts it on the bathroom counter, trying once more to call Ehanis. She closes
Halisi is still standing by the window when Ilyna emerges, having sent off an update to Vasquez. She glances over towards her when the bathroom doors open.
Ilyna has changed into a modest, dark blue nightdress when she returns from the bathroom. She walks up to the window, though not as close to it as Halisi is, and looks at her. "We can make room for you in the bed," Ilyna suggests, as if that were much more important than asking if there are more questions from Vasquez. "You've been... far too good to me and Li, it's... only fair that you're comfortable."
Halisi shoots Ilyna a small smile, folding her arms before looking back out into the darkness. "It's-... it's fine. Really. You're my guests. Besides, I'd like to stay up until we hear from Vasquez. For... my own peace of mind."
Ilyna sighs, looking frustrated for a second. She is lacking the energy to really argue her point. "Don't worry about waking me up," she says. "When going to bed, or if you or Vasquez need me." She begins her walk to the bedroom without waiting for an answer, trying her best to be quiet in case Li hasn't fallen asleep yet.
