#Hospital – August 18, 2014

Jason is laying in the same bed as when Vasquez visited him. The room has two other patients in it with cloth dividers blocking off their sight from one another. A nurse is standing beside Jason's bed with a tray in her hands and a frustrated expression on her face. "I just don't like pie!" Jason insists, pushing the tray back towards the woman. "How do you not like pie? How is that possible!?" the woman questions. "I just don't!" he insists. With a shake of her head and a roll of her eyes, the nurse storms out of the room.

Va'ynna hears Jason's voice while walking along the hallway, upping her pace so that she almost hits the nurse emerging from the room. She is in her dark-gray dress with green trims, holding a small plastic bag with a few flowers sticking out of it. She stops in the doorway and surveys the room, her gaze stopping on Jason. "Hey," she says.

Jason holds down a button on a small remote, causing a slight mechanical whirl to begin as the head of the bed slowly rises up. He stares silently awkwardly at Va'ynna for a few moments as the bed readjusts. Finally, when it's all the way up, a familiar lopsided smirk returns to his face. "Hey, V." he says, "I guess news travels fast..."

Va'ynna nods as she steps inside, looking a little bit unsure as she doubts the turian's advice of bringing flowers. "I met Victoria and... Calyx at the Respite," she says. "How... are you?"

Jason sets the remote down at his side. "Eh, couple new holes in my body." he grunts, pushing down his blanket to reveal his bandaged midsection. Numerous older scars decorate the rest of his unbandaged chest and torso. He taps his side lightly with his hand, cringing slightly, "How are the others? I'm a bit hazy on the details towards the end... Did Vicky or Calyx say anything? Is everyone okay?"

Va'ynna thinks for a moment as she takes another step closer, looking over his injuries with a concerned expression. "They... only mentioned you being hurt, so... I suppose they are," she says.

Jason nods and gives a relieved sigh. "Well, that's good..." he says. He extends a hand towards Va'ynna. "Those for me?" he asks, his smirk growing.

Va'ynna looks away, a little bit nervous before answering with a nod, extending the plastic bag. "Yes," she says, returning his gaze on him. "I... um, thought it would be nice." The flowers are primarily yellow and violet in color, with a bit of red mixed in. The florist has also taken care not to include any that exposes pollen. The bouqet is in a solid plastic vase, and a card saying 'Get well' in elegant human lettering hangs on it.

Jason leans forward a bit with a grunt. He grasps the bag and sets it onto his chest as he sits back. He chuckles a bit to himself as he removes the vase and looks it over. "Nice choice. Red and purple are my favorite colors." he says, making no distinction between purple and violet. He reaches over and sets the vase atop the small table at his bedside, "I appreciate it, V, but you didn't have to."

Va'ynna lets out a tiny smile, glancing around for any chairs to sit on. "You're... welcome," she says. "I'm just... glad you're alright."

There's a chair on the opposite side of the small table.

Jason gives a slight shrug. "Oh yeah. Nothing to worry about. Few days and a little rest and I'll be back in a top shape."

Va'ynna smiles. "That's... great to hear," she says. "I was... worried when I heard about... you being hurt." She fidgets a bit before walking towards the chair, stopping just as she's about to sit down. "Um, can I get you a glass of water while I'm up?"

Jason nods a couple times. "Yeah, thanks." he says, "Food here sucks. Could use something to wash the taste out of my mouth." He cringes and licks at the roof of his mouth.

Va'ynna makes her way over to the sink and finds a clean glass, filling it up. "Is it... that bad?" she says. "I could bring some from... Miner's Respite, but... um, that's usually not allowed." She returns to Jason's side, handing him the glass.

Jason takes the glass with an appreciative nod. "It's definitely not good. And the dessert..." he groans, "They tried to serve me... pie." He takes a sip of the water before leaning over and pouring a bit into the flower vase. "Pie." he repeats, leveling his gaze back on Va'ynna with a horrified expression on his face.

Va'ynna raises an eyebrow. "Um, what's... so bad about pie?"

Jason slowly shakes his head. "It's disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. And it was key lime! The worst!" he says, clearly quite passionate about his pie-hate. After a moment he furrows his brow, "Wait... Don't tell me you like pie!?"

Va'ynna brings up a hand to cover her mouth as she smiles, a little amused. "Um, pie is... a very general type of food," she says. "Are they... all bad?" She pauses "I haven't tried it."

Halisi shouts from somewhere beyond the dividers. "Oh, stop complaining about the pie, already!"

Jason nods sternly. "Yes." he says bluntly, "They're all bad. Don't let anyone fool you. There's not much worse than pie. They try to trick you. Lull you into a false sense of deliciousness by telling you it's packed full of awesomeness. Cherries. Blueberries. Banana custard." He shakes his head, "It's all lies. Maybe, like, seven-percent custard. ninety-three-percent gross." he continues. After a moment he corrects himself, "Maybe eight-percent custard. I'm not good with math."

frowns upon hearing Halisi and gives the finger to the divider. "Don't listen to her." he mouths to Va'ynna.

Va'ynna can't help but giggle, looking embarrased at finding it funny. "I... didn't know," she says. "I'll stay away from it..., then."

A light beeping can be heard coming from a dresser on the other side of Jason's small part of the room.

Jason sighs and looks over at Va'ynna. "Hey... Think you could grab that for me?" he asks, "Might be important."

Va'ynna nods, gets up and walks over to the dresser. She starts searching for what could be making the beep.

A small bag containing his omni-tool would be instantly identifiable as the source of the beeping. His undersuit is also folded and packed up into a bag, stained with blood.

Va'ynna opens the bag and frowns at the sight of blood, before taking out his omni-tool quickly and moving over to Jason's side. "Here," she says, handing it to him, a bit curious what it's about.

Jason grabs the device and, within moments, the orange interface surrounds his forearm. "Thanks..." he says as he begins poking at it with a single finger. After a couple minutes, the orange glow dissipates and he sets the device on the small table. "Just a follow-up on the job." he sighs.

Va'ynna tilts her head as she watches him type with just one finger. "Um, what... was the job about?" she says. "If I may ask."

Jason frowns at Va'ynna. "You sure you wanna talk about this...?" he asks.

Va'ynna raises her brows and looks away, a small shake of her head following for his question was answer enough. "No," she says. "Never...mind."

Jason nods a couple times. "So, how'd you manage to get out of working? Aylena finally get around to hiring another bartender?" he asks.

Va'ynna shakes her head. "No, but... she covered for me," she says. "It's... really her shift soon, anyway."

Jason takes another sip from his glass of water. "Ahh. Well, what better way to spend your time off than with me, right?" he says with a smirk. After a short pause he sits up further in bed, "Wait... Did you come here on your own?"

Va'ynna takes a bit to respond, then nods. "Mhm," she says. "I... took a taxi all the way, though."

Jason reaches out and pats Va'ynna on the cheek. "Awwwww." he says, putting an exaggerated emphasis on it, "Look at you! They grow up so quickly!" he teases. His smile widens, "I'm proud of you, V." he says, sounding a bit more genuine.

Va'ynna looks towards the floor, but she can't help but giggle at his over-the-top reaction, her cheeks taking on a different, barely visible, shade of purple. "I was... more worried for you," she murmurs.

That... means a lot to me. Really, V. I'm lucky to have such a good friend.

Va'ynna smiles, looking thoughtful. "I'm... lucky," she says. "You've always been there for me, promised me a place to stay and work so I didn't need to worry about... if I don't get a job. If I wasn't good enough after training."

Jason shifts a bit in his bed. "And that offer's still on the table." he says, "Then maybe I wouldn't have to keep playing secretary..." he mutters with a sigh. He glances over at the flowers, "So... Where'd you get those?"

Va'ynna glances at the flowers. "I... um, forgot the name," she says. "It's... not far from where we went." She pauses. "The bouquet should be... safe to bring to hospitals too, the lady there told me. No risks of allergic reactions."

Jason | "Well, that's good at least. The old fuck over there-..." he nods at the partition behind Va'ynna, "...certainly doesn't need any more help being loud. I swear, he's been rippin' ass ever since I got here. Just non-stop. It's like a circus act over there. If he started sneezing along with it, I'd have to rip my hair out."

A man shouts from the other side of the partition. "Oh fuck off! And keep it down, I'm trying to sleep!"

Jason furrows his brow and props himself up with his elbows, "I'm sure that's very difficult in your condition. Irritable bowel-syndrome is terrible, sir." he says, flipping the bird at the partition. "See?" he mouths to Va'ynna as the distinct sound of gas being passed is heard.

Va'ynna covers her mouth, shaking a bit as she manages to almost suppress laughter. "Goddess," she mutters after regaining composure. "Maybe... it's rude for me to be here if he's trying to sleep."

Nah, fuck him. He's just a grouchy old fuck. You're fine.

Va'ynna nods, trusting him to know best. "So, um, I was thinking a a few days ago," she says. "I haven't... seen the agency's... place."

Jason 's smirk returns. "You asking to check out my place? How forward of you." he teases.

Va'ynna looks away, blushing again. "Argh," she mutters, sounding almost frustrated at the amount of blood that's been flowing through her cheeks today. "Yes, I'm... asking that."

Jason chuckles to himself as he watches the asari. "You blushing?" he asks, rather enjoying the asari's discomfort, "Awwww. Adorable." he continues to tease. "But yeah... I'll get you down to the agency as soon as I'm back on my feet. It's nothing impressive, but it's not a bad start for us."

Va'ynna stares at the floor, his teasing not helping at all. "Yes, thank you," she eventually respond to him.

Jason rolls over onto his side to face Va'ynna. "So..." he begins, propping his head up with his hand, "I know you don't wanna talk about... her. But how about telling me what life was like before you got here?" he asks, "I mean shit, I hardly know anything about you, V."

Va'ynna looks thoughtful as she turns back to face him. "I was working for an electronics store," she begins. "I might have told you before, but... I was there for years. I didn't have much of a, um, social life to speak of, and it started... getting empty and boring. I... wanted to see why so many young asari leave home."

No friends? Boyfriend? Girlfriend? Nothing you were leaving behind?

Va'ynna shakes her head. "Only... a friend," she says, "but she calls now and then. I... sort of drifted apart from the others, though."

Jason furrows his brow as he listens. "Any particular reason why?" he asks.

Va'ynna frowns. "They changed jobs... or moved," she says. "Sometimes I was... bad at meeting them... enough."

You work at that electronics store eight days a week, too?

Jason smirks.

Va'ynna shakes her head, but a grin can be seen. "No... I had... reasoanble enough times here," she says. "I don't think... my contract with D'Inea would be legal there."

Jason chuckles loudly, which attracts a loud groan from the person on the other side of the divider. "Yeah. Most places have an issue with slavery." he says.

Va'ynna glances towards the divider as he groans, frowning. "It's... not slavery," she replies, "and I... don't have to do housekeeping and cleaning anymore." She stands up, feeling their conversation is annoying the other patients. "I suppose I should... get going," she says.

Jason sighs and rolls onto his back once again. "Guess so. Before asshole over there shits his pants in anger." he says, making sure to speak loud enough to be heard by the man, "But don't you worry about me, alright? I'll come visit you as soon as I'm out of this place."

Va'ynna looks a little embarrased at being between this 'argument', then nods. "That sounds good," she says, "but... um, no promises I won't come here again." She starts making her way towards the door. "I'll see you."

Jason winks at Va'ynna. "Lookin' forward to it." he says, offering a short wave.

Va'ynna smiles slightly as she disappears through the door, her omni-tool coming to life just as she's out of view. She leaves about two minutes later by taxi.
