#Miner'sRespite – August 4, 2015
Jason tosses his omni-tool up into the air and catches it on the way down as he makes his way down the upstairs hall of the Respite. Once outside of Renala's room, he leans against the wall and stuffs the omni-tool back into his pocket before hammering against the door with a clenched fist.
Renala takes a while to respond, possibly due to her night shift making her sleep far into the day. "The fuck do you want?" she shouts groggily followed by some sound of activity from within the room. She doesn't open the door yet, however.
Jason tilts his head up and sighs loudly, staring up towards the ceiling as he calls back through the door. "To discuss your employment if you don't open this damn door." he shouts in response, but his tone isn't particularly serious.
Renala eventually opens the door and takes a step back. She's put on a dark-blue top and dark gray pants, but she's still barefoot. "You haven't forgotten what kind of shifts I'm working, have you?" she asks.
Jason stuffs his hand back into his pocket and gives a shake of his head. "No. But I need you to do something for me." he says. He pulls his omni-tool back out and extends it towards the asari, "I can't use this damn thing with one arm. I have reports to type up. Messages to send. All very official stuff, ya know? Without my other arm, I type like an elcor-... uhh... Cuz my typing is
usually, you know, spot on-..." He scratches at his neck and quickly moves on, "So I need some sort of voice-to-text program so I can just speak and it'll.... message-ify it."
Renala chuckles, and hands the omni-tool back. "I'm flattered, but I don't think you should trust me that much," she says. "I can look into it, and send you what you need to get it running after I've made sure it won't hand your sensitive data over to whoever's paying."
Jason furrows his brow as he withdraws his hand. "I'm not following... You saying there isn't some kind of thingamajig that you can just download and I can talk and have it... you know... take notes for me or something?"
Renala nods. "Of course there is," she says. "A VI assistant will do all that, and anyone can get one, but you never know what they may do with your sensitive data."
Ehanis is sitting at the bar drinking a glass of water, and empty lunch plate in front of her. She's dressed similarly to when she was in the hospital, but wearing a dark-red top instead.
Jason frowns and looks down at his omni-tool. "Tricky spy-VI... Never did trust VIs." He lets out a deep sigh and repockets his omni-tool. "Well, see what you can do. It's hard to be taken seriously when a client has to decipher what you're trying to say all the damn time."
Sioria soon walks through the front of the door wearing her grey fatigues. Its almost like she only has two going-out outfits, her fatigues and her armour. She looks around the bar and sets her eyes on her prize, the beautiful asari in the red top. The female turian walks over with a light limp in her step, and sits down beside her. "Well fancy meeting you here." she says, smiling at
Renala smirks. "If everyone knew their way around this sort of stuff, I wouldn't have a job anymore," she says. "Give me a couple hours, and I'll get back to you."
Ehanis drinks the remainder of her glass. "I thought you would shoot me a message," she says, turning towards the turian. "What's up?"
Jason gives a nod. "Works for me." he says, "By the way, I should have some more hands-on work coming in if you're getting bored with the security gig. Everyone keeps asking me about our current situation and I don't want any of you to worry. We're doing fine. Nobodies salary will go unpaid. I've already got the repairs in motion on the base. A few medical hiccups to handle-..." he
glances down at his absent limb, "...and we'll be back in full swing. There'll be a few changes, but we can discuss those later."
Sioria smirks and flags down the bar keep, wondering who it is today. "I thought about it," she replies, turning her attention back. "But I wanted to make sure I looked presentable before coming out to see you." She gestures down at her fatigues. They're actually ironed! "I kinda forgot I wore my armour to the hospital. Didn't seem appropriate for meeting a pretty Asari at a bar."
I don't have a problem with boring work, but give me a few days' warning if you need me out in the field.
Sioria smiles at Va'ynna and nods. "I'm fine, just a busted up ankle and stuff." she grins. "How're you?"
Jason slowly raises and lowers his head in another nod, "Of course..." he says. It seems as though there's more he wants to say, but he's hesitant. After a few moments he just lets out a deep breath and forces a smile, "Yeah, well that's it then.. Thanks. If you've got any suggestions for the new building, send 'em my way. I'll see what's in our budget." He slaps a hand against the
Ehanis looks the turian over, and tilts her head. "You came here to meet a pretty asari, but didn't know I was here?" she points a finger accusingly, but her tone doesn't imply she's all that serious.
Renala | "I'd like to be part of planning the network infrastructure and systems," she says. "The last building was easy to take control over."
I can get behind that. Get me a list of what you'd need. Automated defenses included. If we can't defend our home then we can't defend our people.
Renala nods. "I'll do that," she says, "but you should make sure the militia's okay with automated defences."
Jason cringes a bit and tilts his head from one side then the other. "Maybe. But I'd much rather not tell them and never need it than tell them, have them shut us down on the idea, and then need it. What they don't know won't hurt them, right?"
Sioria hums and looks at Ehanis, then lifts her hands defensively. "Okay, okay, I admit it." she says, then gives a long, mock sigh. "I planted a tracker on you." Then she grins. "First round's on me to make up for it?"
Renala chuckles. "They will notice a huge AA gun on the roof," she says, "unless you're going for something subtle."
Jason shrugs, "Inside of a hatch. Something. Just keep them out of view. Last thing I want is to have a dispute with the militia over this."
Ehanis raises an eyebrow at first. "You did?" she says. "You're almost worse than my sister." She glances at the barkeep. "It's a bit early to get wasted, isn't it?"
Sioria shrugs at Ehanis, "I like to keep track of gorgeous women," she explains, then looks between Va'ynna and back to Ehanis. "Its beer o' clock somewhere, isn't it? Can't buy you lunch, so... soda?"
Renala nods. "I'm sure that can be done," she says, "but you'd need someone more qualified with that kind of hardware, and I'll work with them to make sure no angry neighbor or attacker can have fun with it."
Jason gives a nod as his lopsided smirk crosses his face. "Fantastic. I'll work on finding a contractor that can handle that sort of work. In the meantime, like I said, look into what you'll need. Hardware, materials, that sort of shit, and send it my way. The sooner the better."
Sioria chuckles at Ehanis and looks back at Va'ynna, "Two beers, one turian." she says with a smile, "Thank you!" She turns back to Ehanis and grins. "So. Back out of hospital. What have I missed?" she asks as she wraps an arm around the asari.
Renala nods again. "I'll get to it," she says, reaching towards the door controls, but she doesn't close the door. "And thanks, for keeping me in the loop about what's going on."
Va'ynna can't help but giggle, looking more than a little embrassed. "Two beers and a turian, got it," she jokes and goes off to find a bottle.
Jason takes another step back. "Not a problem." he says with a wink before turning on his heels and starts back towards his room, tracing his remaining hand along the wall as he goes. "And don't forget about the speak-thingy!" he calls without looking back, "It's important!"
Ehanis sighs. "Not a whole lot," she says. "I've been running errands for sis ever since she returned, and now she's not even giving a sign that she's gotten to the Citadel in one piece."
Renala chuckles. "I know," she says. "Maybe I'll finally understand what you're typing." She grins, and closes the door after a few seconds.
Jason raises his hand into the air and gives the finger back towards Renala, unsure whether or not she actually saw it.
Sioria chuckles at Va'ynna's joke. Hey, it was decent. Then she looks back to Ehanis, "Now... which sister is this?" she asks. "I didn't know she was off to the citadel... why's she headed there?"
Ehanis thinks for a moment. "You know those weird kids from your mission?" she asks. "She's finally getting rid of them."
Sioria rubs her chin a little and frowns. "How's she doing that?" she asks, letting go of the woman's shoulder. "Orphanage? You'd think Aite might have a handful..."
Ehanis shrugs. "I don't know if she has a real plan," she says, "but she's handing them over to the authorities in Council Space."
Sioria gives a curt nod. "That makes sense. Guess its a sorta... refugee situation." She places her hands on the bar. "She got your running errands while she's away?"
Va'ynna returns with a bottle of beer for the turian, and fills a glass. She then pours one for Ehanis from a tap and puts the almost-empty beer bottle and two pint glasses on the counter.
Ehanis shakes her head. "Nope," she says. "It was just when she had them in an apartment not far from here, and didn't want to leave them unattended."
Sioria smiles and grabs her beer. "Thanks Va'Ynna." she says, then looks back to Ehanis with a nudge from her elbow. "So baby-sitting duty, eh?" she asks. "Guess now she's gone, we got some time to hang out. Been a while."
Ehanis takes her beer with a nod of thanks. "Mhm," she says. "Now I'm just waiting to get hired by her agency formally. She owes me that." She takes a large sip of her beer.
Sioria gives the asari a half-hug. "Here's to serving together!" She lifts her glass with a grin. "To Red Rock's newest badasses!"
Ehanis lifts her glass close to the turian's, but not enough to hit it. "They won't regret hiring us," she says with a grin.
Sioria grins and takes a long swig of her drink. "If they haven't so far, I'm certain they won't any time soon." she says with a laugh. "I managed to get back in one piece, I guess that says something, right?" And once again, her arm is around Ehanis' waist. "When you get in the field, we'll be unstoppable, methinks."
Ehanis nods. "We will," she says, "but I don't think you've even seen me in the field!" She downs a good portion of her beer.
Sioria shakes her head. "Nope, but from what I've seen of you so far, you'll fit in." she says. "I have every faith in you." She swigs her beer once more and sighs happily. "Nice to have something to drink not brought to me by a nurse..."
Ehanis hums. "Mhm, hospitals suck," she says. "Especially the clinics on Omega. I never trusted any of them."
Sioria snorts a little as she puts down her glass. "I mean, it wasn't that bad, but I had to share, y'know? Thank goodness I didn't need to pee into one of those little baggies or anything, I could still walk to the bathroom and back." She rolls her eyes a little. "I'll be glad to sleep in my own bed tonight. If I sleep." she winks at Ehanis. "So, I've been meaning to ask, while I was
Ehanis shrugs. "Not all that much," she says. "I went here a few times, went out drinking, and was angry at sis for not letting me come with you." She gulps down almost all of her beer.
Sioria sighs and frowns a little. "Yeah, I get that. But, honestly, with what we saw, I'm kinda glad you didn't go. The fucked up stuff we encountered... I've had my fair share of nightmares from it already." she admits, looking a little pained. "Can't say I wasn't thinking of you when we were gone though."
Ehanis sighs. "And I had no fucking clue you guys would be gone for this long," she says. "Not even the one they had stationed here knew crap."
Sioria gives a small shrug. "In command's defense... we didn't know we'd be gone that long either. We hit more than a few snags." she explains. "At least the majority of us made it back, it could have gone a lot worse." She swigs her beer again. "I don't really want to think about it for now."
