#RedrockAgency – January 13, 2017
Jessica enters the front door dressed in a pair of brown cargo pants, sneakers, and a black winter jacket. Her cap has yet to be replaced since its burial at sea. It's mid-day on the 10th of November. Once inside, she moves over towards the desk and leans against it with a sigh as she waits for the VI. "I am in a hurry." she says, "Where is Vasquez? I need to talk to her."
Fergus flickers into existence behind the desk, still donning his winter furs. He gives a light bow of his head. "Greetings, Ser Kaya. Lady Vasquez is in the infirmary. Would you like me to notify her?"
Jessica gives a roll of her eyes and another deep sigh follows. "Yes. Fine. Whatever. Just let me talk to her." she says. After a moment, she seems to realize something and glares at the hologram. "I am not a sir. What are you trying to say, mmm!?"
Fergus ' face twitches slightly as he accesses his databases, his voice sounding monotone as he quotes directly. "'Ser' is generally accepted as a gender neutral title mainly employed in medieval fantasy literature. It is the default title used by Fergus-model VI assistants when addressing others. Please access the unit settings to adjust manner of address."
Jessica gives a brief shake of her head and remains where she is. She turns around, folding her arms across her chest as she leans back against the desk as she waits for Vasquez.
Vasquez enters the reception not long after. She's wearing her usual gray military pants and tank top combo, a slightly puzzled frown on her face as she looks to Jessica. "Kaya? What's this about?"
Jessica swivels around to face Vasquez, looking her over for a brief moment before straightening her posture. Given their previous encounters, it takes a bit of self restraint to keep from being snarky, but she manages it. All business-like today. "You and I need to talk." she says plainly, glancing past Vasquez and nodding down the hall. "Is important. Maybe is better if we talk in your office, yes?"
Vasquez raises an eyebrow. "Alright..." she says before turning around, gesturing for Jessica to follow. Halisi exits the infirmary as they pass, shooting a smile their way on her way out. Once at the office door, Vasquez palms the interface and steps inside.
Jessica follows Vasquez down the hall, only passing the briefest of glances Halisi's way as they cross paths. Once she reaches Vasquez' office, she steps inside and unzips her jacket. "Wolfe tell me I have to come to the dumb wedding." she says, seemingly oblivious to the possibility of Vasquez taking offense to her wedding being called 'dumb'. Once her jacket is off, she tosses it over the back of the seat near Vasquez' desk
intended for guests. Beneath the jacket she's wearing a short sleeved beige shirt atop a long sleeved white shirt to stay warm in the winter weather.
Vasquez studies Jessica with a confused look. "Excuse me?" She shakes her head, letting out an exasperated sigh. "No one will be forced to come to our 'dumb wedding', don't worry." she says with a less-than-friendly smile.
Jessica plops down into the seat, adjusting the jacket on the backrest for a second before scooting the chair closer to the desk. She looks up at Vasquez and gestures to her chair for her to sit down before giving a dismissive wave to the woman's response. "Is fine. Don't worry, you don't have to convince me." she sighs, almost as if she either paid no mind to what Vasquez actually said, or just doesn't care, "I will go."
Vasquez ' smile grows wider and she lets out a strained laugh through gritted teeth as she pushes down the urge punch Jessica in the face. "I'm so glad we've established that. Was that the entirety of the urgent reason you interrupted by medical exam?"
Jessica gives a shake of her head, again either not recognizing Vasquez' displeased tone, or not caring. "No. I interrupt your medical exam because I have an offer for you." She allows that to linger for a moment, as if it should be enticing, before bringing her right foot up onto the edge of her chair and wrapping her arms around her knee. "Sit! Sit!" she encourages once again with a nod towards the seat on the opposite side of
Vasquez takes a deep breath before placing a hand on Jessica's knee, forcing her leg back down with a hard push before rounding the desk and taking a seat. "Keep your fucking boots off my chair and get to the goddamn point before I lose my patience."
Jessica scowls as her leg is pushed off the edge of the chair. She bites down hard and opens her mouth to snap back, but instead she simply closes her mouth again. No need to further antagonize. She's here for more important reasons. "You are kind of a bitch. You know this, yes?" she asks, though the way it's said- somehow- makes it seem like it's not intended as an insult. Just an observation. Not antagonizing at all. Nope. She
adjusts her position on the seat a bit now that her comfort has been disrupted. "Okay, okay. Getting to the point..." she mutters.
Vasquez seems more than a little confused by Jessica's demeanor, not used to being addressed this way, and she finds herself not quite sure how to react as a result. She props an elbow up against her armrest and once again starts to massage her temple, resting her head against her hand. "What?" she snaps, her tone impatient.
Jessica furrows her brow, studying Vasquez with distaste at her outburst. She gives a short shake of her head to herself. She takes a moment to collect herself, not used to having to give a business pitch. Finally, when she has the words in her head, she returns her attention to Vasquez. "Look. I see movies. I see a lot of movies, mmm? I know how wedding is supposed to work. You are going to need a photographer. Someone to take
pictures and all that shit, yes?" she says, pausing for a moment as her good eye scans from Vasquez' left to her right, but not giving enough time for a response before continuing on with her pitch. "Maybe you already get one..." she shrugs dismissively, "...I do not know. But if it is not from Aite? Is going to be verrrrry expensive. Pay for transport here. Pay for work. Pay for pictures. Pay for transport home." she
lists, "Blah blah blah blah. Is bad. Orrrrr maybe you find a local." She leans forward in her seat, giving only the slightest shake of her head with a dead serious expression as if that would be the worst possible option, "No. I know Aite. And I know if you get someone from Aite, they are probably only going to scam you. Shit photos you will pay for and they will steal a lot. A lot. You will be robbed blind."
Vasquez looks utterly perplexed as to what the hell is going on as she listens to Jessica's pitch. Partway through she leans back in her chair, remaining silent. Once the woman finishes she raises an eyebrow. "Sooo... what? You want to be the wedding photographer? Is that it?" she asks with a skeptical look.
Jessica furrows her brow, not answering directly at first. "I-..." she begins, her gaze lowering as she pulls out her omni-tool. A purple glow expands from it and Jessica begins poking through it. "...I will not charge so much. Only-... only two-thousand credits. Is cheap, mmm?" she asks, her focus still on her omni-tool interface. "Annnnd I will only steal a little." she adds. Whether in jest or not is unclear. A brief smile
tugs at her lips as she sets the omni-tool down on the edge of Vasquez' desk and reverses the image, putting her photos on display. She begins slowly swiping through a few. They're mostly of Freedom Falls- specifically of the area around the dam- but they are surprisingly well done. Clearly taken by someone with an artistic eye. Advanced framing techniques. Strong awareness for lighting. She continues to swipe and a
less-than-flattering photo of Yan Sun pops up. She's sleeping in an awkward position and has a penis drawn on her cheek. A small snicker from Jessica and then back to scenary. A photograph of the Respite as someone enters through the front door as a light snowfall frames the scene. The set that follows depicts Jessica in profile near the dam. The first few framing her left side against the snow with the river in the back.
After a few different angles of that, there's a set of her from the right side with a small campfire behind her, washing the photograph out in reds and yellows. She gains a slightly uncomfortable look as she swipes through these photos a little quicker, the set obviously a lot more personal for her. "...Soooo....?" she asks, looking between the photos and Vasquez as she awaits a decision.
Vasquez places her forearms on the desk, leaning forward and looking at the display as she decides to indulge Jessica. Her eyebrows rise in surprise upon viewing the pictures. The photo of Yan Sun causes an uncomfortable glance at Jessica, but it's quickly forgotten as she views the rest. Despite the quick swiping, the last set causes her expression to change inscrutably. She leans back once more, her gaze moving back up
Jessica taps at the omni-tool a couple more times, a small smile tugging at her lips as the interface dissipates. "Mmm. Is good choice." she says as she pockets the device and sits back in her seat. She brings her foot back up to the edge of the seat before remembering Vasquez' reaction just a few minutes ago, and she casually sets her foot back down on the floor. "And I will take all the photos of the-... the marriage part, yes?
And some at the.... celebration.... part...." she explains before repeating the price, "Two thousand credits. Is best price you will find."
Vasquez 's gaze follows Jessica's leg as it goes up... and back down, nodding slightly. "I'll consider it." she repeats. "I'll need you to send your portfolio over."
Jessica tilts her head to the side a bit, a slight bit of frustration creeping in as Vasquez makes this more difficult than she had expected. "My port-... You mean my photos, yes? Fine..." she sighs, briefly looking a bit dejected. She stands up from her chair and begins to collect her jacket, doing her best to conceal the embarassment she's feeling at not immediately being taken up on her offer. "Is not even my good photos I show
you..." she explains, trying to make excuses for Vasquez' perceived disinterest in her photographs, "...I will send the better ones. You will see."
Vasquez raises an eyebrow as she leans back against the backrest. "I look forward to seeing them... was there anything else?"
Jessica gives a shake of her head. "No." she says bluntly as she stabs an arm through the sleeve of her jacket. "You can go finish your medical exam. I have-..." she mutters as she wrestles her way into her winter jacket, "...Gah... Shit to do... I will send pictures..."
Vasquez nods, paying little attention to Jessica's epic struggle with the jacket as she activates her computer terminal, her gaze now on the screen.
Jessica gives one last glance to Vasquez as she manages to get her jacket on and begins to zip it up. "Mmm. Pictures..." she says once more with a nod, clearly feeling a bit awkward now that all is said and done. She moves half way to the door and then contemplates raising a hand in a farewell greeting, but decides against it and simply stomps out. Once in the hall, she sucks in a deep breath and presses her forehead against the
