#RedrockAgency – November 1, 2017
Early afternoon of the 26th. Thankfully it's a day of clear skies given the location of the wedding. As one might expect, painstaking effort has been taken to spruce the Redrock offices up into something worthy of a wedding. That thankless job fell into the hands of Jasper, as usual, but he seems to have taken it much more serious than his attempt at Halloween decorations. The hangar, the rec room, and the rooftop have all undergone
transformations. Numerous round tables have been brought to the hangar with dark red and white fabric atop them. A larger table is centered near the northern hangar wall. Another long table is against the southern wall, covered from end-to-end with heated metal containers of delicious food from the kitchen of Miner's Respite, plates, cups, and everything else you'd need to pig out. Down at the far end of that same table are two large
groupings of bottles of booze. Two small haphazard signs are taped in front of them, written in marker in the telltale poor penmanship (Which has only gotten worse since his prosthetics) of Jason is: 'QUARIAN' on one and 'NOT QUARIAN' on the other. The walls have been covered in large, decorative swaths of dark red fabric that covers up the fact that it's a hangar quite well. White fabric hangs down against the walls from the center of the
room in a stylish manner that indicates Jasper probably didn't handle this alone. The rec room is much less elegant, as less time is expected to be spent there, but likewise the room has been given a dark red and white makeover. The rooftop, courtesy of Syranis Foundation, is utilizing the same technology used down by the dam to keep it from icing over. While it doesn't completely fight off the cold, winter, Aite air, it does combat it
enough for the guests to weather the temperature without freezing. White chairs have been set up facing the west end of the building with a dark red carpet marking the center aisle. At the end of the aisle is a raised platform where the ceremony will take place. Aside from a red carpeting, little else has been added to the platform, allowing a nice open view of the snow capped mountains in the distance, the forests, and the surrounding
countryside. Rather than be expected to climb the ladder to reach the roof while in formal wear, Jasper has constructed a small staircase. It requires the guests to duck their head and assist their climb with the top rung of the ladder, but it's better than nothing. The guests have all been informed that the ceremony won't start for a short while yet, so just relax and await the announcement.
Nathan and Sophia would've been instructed to set their instruments up in a small section on the north end of the hangar near the large table. Between the large table and the smaller tables is a large, empty space for dancing.
Leah is dressed in a surprisingly girly strapless light blue dress that stops just above her knees and hugs her shape quite snugly. For once she has done away with the clunky, beat up black boots in favor of a pair of strappy white heels. She's stood behind the kitchenette counter in the rec room talking to Mendez who is similarly dressed up despite his usual attire. He's in a perfectly fitted, classical tuxedo. His mohawk is
Nathan arrives with his sister in tow, the pair of them dressed very sharply. Nathan sports a fine white shirt with black tie, buttons all clasped up. A light grey waistcoat hugs his torso nicely and his pressed black trousers accompany the gleam of his dress shoes, relentlessly polished for such an occasion. He carries a large case over one shoulder, the contents unknown. His sister stands in stark contrast
to her brother in choice of attire. A snug red dress, the colour of wine, hugs her body and her hair falls around her shoulders like a white waterfall. The young woman carries a white case, clearly holding her violin within. The siblings dart off to their assigned section and begin setting up, Nathan unfolding a keyboard from the case and Sofia checking over her violin, tuning it out of instinct.
Tara is hovering near Leah, looking a little uneasy - perhaps because she is having trouble maintaining balance in heels. She's wearing a flowery green summer dress that she picked out herself. Hardly formal, and unlike her usual t-shirts it doesn't hide the scars on her pale arms, nor the barcode on her wrist. Her short blonde hair is inevitably messy, having started to reach that most unmanagable and awkward of lengths.
Halisi is in the hangar, watching Nathan and Sofia set up from some distance away, a small smile on her face. She's wearing black and silver heels and an elegant, long silver dress with an open back. It shimmers as light catches it. Her long black hair is free as usual, but more carefully styled, and she's wearing hoop earrings along with matching bracelets.
Jasper is putting some last, finishing touches on things in the hangar. He, too, has opted for a nice, classical tuxedo. Though he fills his out less impressively than Mendez. Jattic is begrudgingly following in his wake assisting and complaining the whole time. The batarian's attire looks almost military in nature. A grey top with a wide, decorative red sash that lays across his body, anchored in place by a single black pauldron on his
left shoulder. As Nathan enters the hangar, Jasper gives him a big wave. "Ay, Ten! Lookin' slick, ain't ya?!" he greets cheerfully
Steve is far less dressed up than many of the other guests. A dark green button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up showing off his casted arm and a pair of black slacks. He deemed the months of prep time too short of a notice to be bothered to buy new shoes for the occasion and thus has decided to just wear his brown beat up work boots, though the slacks do a fairly good job of covering them up. Not willing to wait until after
Va'ynna sets the last metal container on the table with a sigh of relief, there is still time for her to get ready for the ceremony. She taps on her omni-tool to let Aylena know that everything is in order, and hurries upstairs where she's met by Uvena.
Uvena walks beside her daughter towards the locker rooms, carrying a plastic bag with Va'ynna dress in it. The matron herself is wearing a green velvet dress going down to below her knees which has a deep V-neck and no sleeves. She is also wearing black heels.
Vasquez has more or less barricaded herself in her and Jason's room, and hasn't been seen outside since the morning.
Oxaris walks into Redrock, shrugging off her coat. The Turian has elected to wear an emerald green outfit, the trims of it lined with a golden hue. Seems to be a running theme with this one. Her boots run up most of her legs, completely covering her spurs and are coloured a deep black. She looks a little awkward in the outfit, but soldiers through and makes her way upstairs.
Jennifer arrived quietly with her two boys Tim and Mikey- aged 8 and 7- in tow. She's dressed in a reserved grey dress that extends down past her knees and covers her shoulders up and a pair of matching low heels. She seemed a bit uncomfortable at first, but quickly eased up once she ran into a couple of familiar faces- Shane and Priya- who corralled her into the open office where they've decided to linger. It has given her
Nathan grins across to Jasper and pauses his work to turn and spread his arms. "Jasper! You look dressed to kill." He laughs and takes a few steps over, reaching to clap the older gent on the shoulder. "I like what you've done to the place. How long has this taken you?"
Sofia watches her brother walk off and she rolls her mismatched eyes playfully. She reverently tends to her hourglass shaped instrument, running her fingers across the old, but well cared for wood. Judging by the construction and the look of it, this instrument is clearly very old, passed on through the years by each owner. Sofia smiles and takes-
- out her bow. Clearly this is much newer than the instrument, but it is still just as well cared for. She looks across to Halisi and smiles brightly, wiggling her fingers in a little wave.
Ilyna exits her office after having helped Li get dressed, and enters the open office as she's heard Jennifer pass by with the two boys. She has permitted Li, Vynira and Ehanis to enter and leave her as they please during the day without asking Fergus. The asari is dressed in a dark red modest dress that doesn't show any blue skin aside from her hands and above her neck. It has some brighter patterns and trims of the
Cynthia has also swiped a beer from the fridge, and she approaches Steve with a nod. "Nice outfit." she comments with a small grin, looking him over and lingering on the boots before taking a swig of her beer. "Fancy." Herself she's wearing a short black dress and heels, a considerable change from her usual wardrobe. Her mohawk is recently styled, and the short dress shows scars from reconstructive surgery across much
Li follows Ilyna into the open office, now wearing the cheap-looking but cute green dress gotten at a local seller. Halisi has assisted with giving her hair a trim. She is quick to hide partly behind Ilyna when she spots the others in the offices, peeking out to look at the kids curiously.
Jessica is dressed in a simple pair of black slacks and a beige, asymmetrical shirt with one sleeve. It's probably no coincidence that it covers up her burns. Her tattoo is on full display, showing off a myriad of different skulls up and down her left arm with wisps of smoke snaking in between them. She's in a pair of heeled, black boots that are probably not wedding-approved, but she also probably doesn't care. For once she's
decided to wear makeup which is, also, probably not wedding-approved. Black lipstick as well as eyeliner pulled far beyond her left eye in a sharp, stylized point. Her right eye is left bare, having either decided it was too difficult or there was just no point in dressing up a turd. She has been pestering all of the guests with her picture taking ever since she arrived, very clearly taking her job far more seriously than
Jasper steps away from the table, looking down at himself. "Maybe this ol' man still has a few tricks up his sleeves." he brags through a big grin. He gives a glance over towards the equipment with a nod. "Ya'll ready ta perform in front of an audience?" he asks, looking from Nathan to Sofia.
Nathan nods. "As ready as we'll ever be. Sofia has been practicing relentlessly," he says, jabbing a thumb over his shoulder to his sister. "I can't tell you how excited she was for this. Seriously, I don't think there's a scale in the galaxy that could do credit." He chuckles and rests a hand on his hip.
Renala is still in her office, leaning over her desk while watching the security system react to all the guests and setting appropriate permissions. She's wearing a modest red dress with white trims hugging her figure closely. Having not had the time or will to research this celebration properly, she made a careful choice of attire.
Shane and Priya are both dressed in their Alliance dress uniforms and seated in office chairs talking up Jennifer as Tim and Mikey chase one another around the room. Shane raises a hand as his big, friendly grin crosses his features to greet Ilyna as she enters. "Ilyna, right?" he asks, recalling her from the party.
Mikey stops chasing Tim as they round the office and spot the new arrivals. They're both wearing nice button up shirts and slacks. Tim continues to skirt around the edge of the room to avoid his brother. Mikey studies Li for a few moments before jumping towards her and poking her on the shoulder with his index finger. "You're it!" he shouts with a giggle and storms off towards his brother.
Yan Sun is leaning against a wall with crossed arms, watching Jessica work with a big smile on her face, despite the events of the previous night. She's dressed up in newly acquired formal wear - slim-fitting black dress pants and a short black blazer over a blue thin-strapped top along with sneakers. Her black-and-blue sideshave is nicely styled, she's wearing her favored makeup for going out - fairly heavy eye shadow and blue
lipstick - and her cybernetics are lit up, but it's unclear whether she's actually using them or she just likes the look.
Li blinks in confusion, flinching slightly as she's poked. She moves out from behind Ilyna to watch the boy run away, but she clearly has no idea what's going on. She looks up at the asari as if hoping for an explanation.
Steve looks down at himself as he takes a sip of his beer, his own gaze lingering on his boots. He extends one leg out for a bit to get a better look at his pants before nodding a couple of times. "Yeeeah. Weddings ain't really my thing." he says with a snicker as he looks to Cynthia with a shrug.
Jasper gives a chuckle and brings a hand up. Despite his tuxedo, he's still wearing that greasey old cap. He takes it off for a moment to run a hand over his balding head. "Well, I jus' hope ya'll ain't disappointed. Ain't neither-..." he trails off, glancing at the door as if afraid Jason or Vasquez may overhear him before continuing at a much lower volume. "Ain't neither a' them exactly the dancin' type. Hope all that effort ya'll
Emma is standing on the roof of the building alongside Markus, looking out across the parking lot. They both came early, and she's been observing the arriving guests for much of her time, looking more like a guard than a guest. They're both wearing immaculate Alliance dress uniforms, hers with a marine sharpshooter's beret.
Nathan stifles a laugh and shrugs. "I've seen Jason's dancing. You might be aware of a certain vid," he hints in a conspiring manner before breaking out into a wide smile. "Truthfully, the music will be for everyone too. I don't think it'll go wasted. And, worst comes to worst, it'll set the atmosphere at the very least."
Oxaris walks upstairs and wanders into the rec room, passing by other guests with small nods of greeting. The turian looks around, a little bewildered for the moment before she decides to walk to the kitchenette counter. "Hello," she says to Mendez and Leah.
Ilyna nods to Shane and the other present. "Yes, that's me," she says but she's far too cought up with Li's introduction to the two boys to say anything else to him for the time being. She crouches down. "I think he wants you to poke him back," she says with a reassuring smile.
Cynthia snickers. "Hey, I'm just here for the drinks and the dancing." she replies. Not true, of course, but a harmless enough exaggeration. She takes another swig of her beer and tilts her head. "You Redrock?" she guesses.
Jasper gives a bow of his head. "Fair 'nuff, fair 'nuff. I sure am lookin' forward ta hearin' it. Maybe I'll give a lil'-... a lil'-..." he bounces his knee up and down as he steps to the side a few times, rolling his shoulders as he does. "...Eh? Eh? Still got some moves, Ten!" he brags.
Jattic rolls his eyes. All of them. "You're embarassing yourself, old man." he grumbles without bothering to turn and look at Jasper. He continues to organize the booze. "Sit down before you break something."
Li furrows her eyebrows, starting to walk in the direction the other kids ran off in with careful steps, looking around. "Hello? What's it?"
Sofia lowers her hand after waving to Halisi and resumes tending to her violin. After a minute or so more, she locks it neatly away in the case before walking over to the doctor. She smiles. "Hello, doctor. You look beautiful," she says, her eyes wide as she examines Halisi's attire.
Jessica is quick to step over towards the kitchenette and snap a bunch of photos of Oxaris, documenting nearly every step of the turian's trip.
Leah and Mendez both look Oxaris' way. "Heyyyyy..." Leah greets, looking to Mendez for a brief moment before resting her gaze back on Oxaris with a couple of blinks of her big green eyes. "I don't think we've met yet. Have we?" Before Oxaris has time to respond, she speaks up again, "I'm pretty good at remembering faces usually. But with the party and all the new people and-... Yeah. It's a lot." She pauses for a moment, as if she's
going to allow Oxaris a chance to respond but shakes her head and continues once again, "Oh! Duh. I'm Leah. This is Tara-..." she looks to Tara with a small smile, "...And this big cuddly wuddly teddy bear is Mendez." She scrunches up her nose and wiggles her eyebrows at Mendez whose only response is a roll of his eyes.
Halisi returns Sofia's wave with a small chuckle, but doesn't interrupt her. Once she approaches she smiles. "Thank you. I like your dress. It compliments your hair nicely." she responds, looking her over while shifting her weight. "It's a striking color, that white."
Tara gives a small wave in greeting to Oxaris as she's introduced, her gaze downcast and her left hand holding onto her right elbow.
Mikey tilts his head to the side. "You don't know what It is?" he asks, clealy unaware that the game is actually called 'Tag'. He looks to his brother and the two of them share a giggle at Li's lack of knowledge. "Ummm.... I was It. But now I made you It by touching you. So now you have to make-...." a grin crosses his face as he bolts to a running start before blurting out all at once, "oneofusIt!" His brother is slow
Oxaris blinks at Jessica as she hounds her every step and she suddenly feels very self conscious. She blinks her ice-green eyes and her mandibles twitch as Leah speaks, bowing her head as each person is introduced. "A pleasure. I'm Oxaris, Ghost Inf- just Oxaris." She quietly scolds herself. She's slowly breaking out of that habit at least.
Yan Sun snickers at Jessica's rather extreme thoroughness, her smile remaining. She seems content to just watch her for now, not to keen on interacting with most of the guests, although she does glance over at Leah and Tara.
Nathan makes a show of judging Jasper's dancing, nodding slowly with a few 'Mhmm, mhmms' and 'ahs'. "You've got a real knack for it there, Jasper. A real knack." He grins broadly at Jattic's comment, flashing Jasper a wink. "Ahh, don't listen to him."
Li frowns as he starts running away partway through the explanation, taking a few staggering steps after. "Hey! Wait!" she calls out, moving in more of a rapid walk at first before she realizes she needs to pick up her pace.
Leah glances off to the side before resting her gaze back on the turian. "Oh! Oxaris! Yeah! I saw your name on some of the reports. I-..." she stops abruptly as she's cut off.
Mendez extends a hand towards Oxaris. "She means 'It's nice to meet you'." he corrects, the slightest hint of a smirk crossing his lips as he looks to his much more wordier friend.
Sofia smiles, a slight tinge of red creeping into her cheeks as she brushes a stray lock away. "Thank you. All Tennhausens have a twinge of white or grey in their hair. I'm actually a little out of place being all white." She doesn't seem ashamed of it. In fact, it causes her to swell with a little pride. "That and my eyes, of course."
Oxaris extends her talons to Mendez and gives him a firm shake. "You're both Redrock, right? You're on the Respite shift," he says with a nod to Leah. "But I'll admit to not seeing you much, Mendez. You work the dam?"
Vynira is currently fussing over helping Ehanis get dressed, despite the younger asari's countless frustrated assurances that she can do it herself. Judging by the amusement she derives from it, that must be sole reason why she's so helpful. Vynira is wearing a long red dress with a wide neck, though much is covered by the gray strap that goes around her neck and along the entire length in front of it. She's used
Jasper pays no mind to Jattic's usual grumpiness. "Never do." he says with a snicker. "So how ya been? S'been a hot minute since we've had a lil' pow wow, ain't it?"
Shane chuckles as the kids go running off before resting his gaze on Ilyna once again. "Jason was looking for you. He's getting ready in his office." he explains with a nod in the general direction of Jason's office.
Jennifer speaks up once Shane has relayed the news to Ilyna. She passes a brief glance to Li, a tired smile crossing her face. "It's fine, we'll keep an eye on her." she assures the asari.
Halisi raises an eyebrow. "They're natural? I'll admit, I assumed it was some kind of modification. I know that sort of thing is fashionable on certain parts of Earth."
Leah gives a nod as Oxaris singles her out. But, once again, Mendez speaks up in her place, lest she get an opportunity to go on another rant.
Mendez pulls his hand back after shaking Oxaris' and gives a shake of his head. "I oversee operations down at the mine." he explains, his voice deep with little fluctuation. Monotone.
Nathan nods and glances over to his sister. Seeing her having a chat with Halisi, he takes that as his cue to take a break. Totally not what he was doing already anyway. "Ya, it's been a while. Preparing for this wedding and a few... personal issues have kept me from being sociable. I'll admit, I've kinda been in that realm of doing alright to feeling like shit, but I can't complain too much. What about you?"
Steve smiles, nodding a couple times as he cradles his beer in his hand. "You and me both." he agrees, though in his case it probably is true. "Yeah. How 'bout you? I ain't seen you around, I don't think."
Sofia nods. "Mhmm. I never really looked into it, to be honest. I mean, I have them, I like them, so why be bothered by them? They make me... me!" She giggles softly.
Oxaris raises her browplate and she takes a moment to think. If a Turian could look sheepish, she would right now. "Ah. I... work shifts at the mine too. I have no idea why I didn't realise you oversaw the operations down there." She scratches her neck awkwardly. Keep social, keep social.
Ilyna smiles as Li joins in on the childrens' game, but her attention is drawn by Shane and Jennifer. "Thank you," she says, then focuses on Jennifer. "I'll be back for a proper introduction later." She nods once more and makes her way out of the offices, approaching the door to Jason's office.
Cynthia studies the label of her beer for a moment before looking back to Steve. "Friend of the Chief's. Served in the same unit, back during the Blitz." she explains, her expression wavering for a moment. "Seems like half of Redrock is ex-Alliance. That true for you too?"
Jasper cocks his head to the side with a sigh. "Eh... Been better." he says, though in his usual jovial way he's quick to correct himself, "Been worse, too! My daughter was s'posed to head out this way. Kinda decided against it at the last second. Couldn't find nobody to babysit and didn't exactly feel comfy 'bout bringin' the grandkids out to the Terminus with her... Ah well. Jus' gon' hafta try an' make my way out to 'em for the
holidays." he says, forcing a smile. But it's not hard to see that the despite his intent on remaining positive, it's something that really bothers him.
Nathan gives Jasper a small smile and a reassuring clasp of the shoulder. "Hey, chin up, mm? You'll see them soon." He grants one last pat before leaning back. "What's your daughter like?"
Halisi 's smile widens. "It's certainly something special." she agrees with a nod. "My own are an artifical alteration I'm afraid." she says, gesturing to her silver eyes. "A gift from my parents."
Mendez' expression remains unchanged, though he shakes his head. "It doesn't require much managing. I look over the reports and that's about it. One of those situations where you have no reason to know until there's a reason to know, I suppose." he says, and perhaps it's his attempt at being friendly, but his monotone nature makes it hard to tell.
Tim is unable to keep up with his brother and constantly looks back at Li. As he rounds the corner, he makes the executive decision to dive under a desk to try and hide from her, but his constant giggling is a dead giveaway.
Steve snorts and gives a shake of his head. "No." he says before immediately tilting his head as he reconsiders. "Yeah.... Eh.... It's complicated. Just... been a long time since anybody considered me Alliance." he decides on, hoping to avoid that whole can of worms. "How 'bout you? You still with 'em?" he asks, taking the focus off himself.
Oxaris doesn't seem to be bothered by the man's monotone. "I suppose you're right there. So, how long have you three been with Redrock?" She glances at each of them in turn, offering a smile.
Sofia looks up at Halisi's eyes, her eyebrows perking upwards. "Your parents got you those? That's an amazing present. Isn't artificial alteration quite expensive though?" She clasps her hands in front of her, seemingly at ease in her heels.
Li walks up to the desk, leaning to her side until her head pops into view, her long hair dangling as she's near-upside down. She gives an enthusiastic wave with a smile. "Hi!"
Cynthia raises an eyebrow at Steve's reaction, but doesn't comment. "Yeah." she replies with a nod. "Been a while since I saw active duty, but I am."
Halisi nods, giving a slightly uncomfortable chuckle. "Yes, they were... well-off." she says, looking out across the hangar. Her gaze lingers on Nathan for a moment before going back to Sofia. "I look forward to hearing your performance. How are you feeling?" she says, trying to change the subject.
Jason is in his office with his uncle and Gage. He's only dressed from the waist down in a pair of neatly pressed black trousers and immaculate dress shoes. There seems to be a disagreement going on between them that keeps any of them from responding to the doorbell. "I can totally tie a tie!" he argues.
Christopher narrows his eyes on his nephew. "Jason. Stop. Let me tie the damn tie for you. I've seen you try to wear a tie before. It's going to end badly.
David winces as he looks towards the door, but decides to keep his focus on Jason for now and clasps a hand on his shoulder. "Gotta go with Chris, Jay. Big days demand big sacrifices." Both he and Chris, much like Shane and Priya, are all geared up in their Alliance dress uniforms.
Jason sighs loudly and turns to face the door as it opens. Upon spotting Ilyna, his mood perks up a bit. Given the day's circumstances, his own insecurities over his prosthetics being so visible even seem to be taking a backseat. Or, at least, he's doing a good enough job of hiding it. Numerous scars pepper his abdomen and chest. The edges of the small nodules that serve as anchor points for his prosthetics are surrounded by
raised, scarred flesh. "Hey! Shit, thanks for coming." he greets the asari. His hand immediately reaches for his white shirt and he begins to tug it on and button it up. Okay, maybe the insecurities aren't entirely out of his mind. "I've got a favor to ask you."
Leah snickers and glances to Tara. "Oh, she's not Redrock. She works down at the Respite. Me and Mendez have been with Redrock since they opened the office, though, right Mendez?" she asks with a glance his way. But, as usual, he's not given a chance to respond before Leah looks back to Oxaris and nods. "It's been-.... interesting." she decides. Weddings aren't the time to dwell on the negative, so colorful phrasing will have
Sofia 's smile seems to broaden and she nods eagerly. "I'm really excited! I've never performed at a wedding before. I've been practicing ever since I arrived on Aite and I managed to drag Nate into it too. He keeps pretending it's this big chore, but he's just as excited as I am." She nods firmly, confident in her assessment of her brother.
Oxaris looks to Tara for a moment and her eyes settle on the barcode and scars. Her mandibles twitch in recognition before she looks to Leah. "So I've heard. I look forward to joining you all on these... interesting outings."
Jasper seems to visibly cheer up at the opportunity to talk about his daughter. "Yeah, of course. Soon 'nuff." he agrees before responding to the question. "Lauren is... Well, she's a lot like her mom." he decides with a chuckle and an exasperated shake of his head that implies she's a handful. "Tough. Her and her husband split a few years back and she's been raisin' the lil'uns on her own ever since. Ain't been easy but ya don't see
her complainin'. Not one lick." he boasts proudly before a sigh follows. "I don't get ta' see 'em nearly as much as I'd like to." he admits.
Nathan folds his arms across his chest, giving Jasper his full attention. "That so? Hell, if she's your kid, she must be stubborn as they come. She must be a great mum too, raising her kids on her own like that and to not even voice a single complaint. What're the grandkids like?"
Leah's smile fades for just a moment before she props it back up and nods, tucking a strand of loose hair back behind her ear. "Yeah. Me too." she agrees.
Jessica bites down on her tongue as she moves about the room, taking pictures of just about every-and-anything she can in the rec room. Eventually she focuses on Yan Sun and she snaps a picture of her. "Show boobs." she instructs as she looks into the holographic interface of her camera.
Jattic pointedly snorts as Nathan implies Jasper is stubborn. He's quite clearly listening in as he grumpily rearranges the same bottles over and over a few feet away.
Jasper gives a snicker, lowering his gaze as he considers the question for a few moments. "They're good kids." he decides simply with a nod. "Ah, lookit me. Jabberin' off yer' ear 'bout things that're prolly puttin' ya ta' sleep. "How 'bout you? Been makin' the most outta havin' yer sister in town? Show her around yet?"
Halisi 's smile returns as another small chuckle escapes her. "I was surprised to learn he plays. It has been a while since I have heard live music. It should be nice."
Yan Sun looks at Jessica with an unamused expression, just staring blankly at it for a moment before showing her middle finger to the camera, a grin tugging at the corner of her blue lips. Her nails are painted to match her hair and makeup.
Jessica grins as she snaps a picture of Yan Sun flipping off the camera. "Mmm. Is perfect for boss lady." she decides as she steps closer to Yan Sun. "I will make sure she knows this one is for her."
Nathan smiles broadly, turning to look at his sister. His eyes briefly dart over to Halisi and he lingers on her for a moment before turning back to Jasper. "I've taken her out a few times. I've think she's enjoyed it, seeing a bit more of the galaxy. Even if it is in the Terminus. Apparently the good doctor over there has inspired my little sister to take her music to the stars."
Yan Sun blinks. "Wha-... hey!" she exclaims as she hears Jessica's comment, pushing off from the wall and reaching out for the camera.
Ilyna immediately looks up upon being addressed, having caught herself staring. "Congratulations, Jason," she says with a smile. "It's shaping up to be a good day." She then nods. "What do you want me to do?"
Sofia giggles. "He enjoys it. Actually, he loves playing. He's just...". She pauses and deepens her voice, puffing out her chest and adopting a mockingly tough pose. "Too big and manly to admit it." She breaks into fits of giggles and relaxes. "I look forward to playing for you all. I suppose this could be the start."
Oxaris looks at the trio and she clears her throat slightly, casting her gaze downwards for a moment. She eventually settles on, "So... this place looks nice. Who did the decorations?"
Ehanis is wearing a yellow dress going down to her ankles, though there are a few cuts near the bottom edge to let her legs poke through as she walks. There are two wide straps going over her chest and shoulders, crossing behind her back. The asari looks rather unamused as the matriarch ties the shoulder straps and turns her around. "You done?"
Markus descends the stairs from the roof, looking down briefly at the hangar below before heading off towards Jason and Vasquez' room. Emma remains on the roof, unbothered as a bit of wind catches her braid before settling down again.
Jasper follows Nathan's gaze over to his sister. He gives an impressed whistle. "Goin' on tour? Well, color me impressed." he says, "Ever think a' goin' with? Make it a duo?"
Jessica snickers as she jerks her omni-tool back over her shoulder and steps backwards to keep it out of Yan Sun's reach. "Or you could show boobs and I will delete the picture. Mmm?" she blackmails playfully, giving a wiggle of her brows, though there's not much movement from the burned portion of her brow. "Is easy choice, yes? Boobs."
Jason looks down at his shirt as he continues to button it up. "You know.... Tarlon couldn't be here, so-..." he trails off, glancing to the side and spinning in a half circle before finding what he's looking for. A small box on his desk. He scoops it up and turns back to Ilyna. It's painfully obvious that he began buttoning one button too high for the holes he chose and his shirt is being tugged lopsided. A slight twitch can be
seen in Chris' eye. "...Think you could do the honors...?" he asks, the familiar lopsided grin crossing his face as he extends the box towards Ilyna with a tilt of his head.
Leah picks up the slack however. "Have you met him? He's the mechanic-..." she begins, but glances up slightly as she considers his role, "....Slash engineer.... slash chauffer.... slash pilot.............. slash groundskeeper....? Slash........" she looks to Mendez, slight confusion on her face by this point, "...Janitor?" She gives a shake of her head as she looks back to Oxaris, "He's great! Without him and the Chief, I don't
Tim continues to giggle uncontrollably as Li finds him and scoots further back to try and keep out of her reach. "That's not how you play It!" he accuses as she waves.
Yan Sun pulls back when Jessica doesn't allow her to grab the omni-tool. She crosses her arms again. "Yeah... no." she says, looking skeptical.
Nathan hums. "Me? Nah. I haven't got the talent for touring the galaxy. Besides, I enjoy the mercenary life too much. I'll leave Sofia to the music. That... that's in her blood." He smiles, proudly as he looks back to his sister.
Li drops to the floor and crawls in under the desk, tilting her head slightly, still seeming a bit confused. Since Tim has nowhere to go, she scoots closer and reaches out to prod his forehead with her index finger.
Oxaris chuckles, folding her arms across her midsection as directs her focus on Leah. "So Jasper the mechanic slash engineer slash chauffer slash pilot slash groundskeeper slash janitor did all this? It's impressive. He must take pride in his work."
Ilyna frowns at the mention of Tarlon, who has entirely slipped her mind in all of her recent worries. The frown does fade when she sees the shirt being buttoned wrong, but she says nothing. "Oh... I..., of course," she takes the box that's extended to her. She looks a bit unsure for a moment, then tilts her head. "What am I supposed to do, exactly?" she asks. "Sorry, I would have prepared had I known I would have an
Markus presses the buzzer on the locked door, and little while later he's let into the room, disappearing from view.
Halisi raises an eyebrow slightly, her smile growing. "You're serious about making a career out of it then?"
Mikey shouts, "Run or he'll make you It again!" as he grabs Li by the arm and tugs for her to follow him.
Jasper nods a couple of times, allowing a bit of silence to pass as he studies Sofia and Halisi. "Gotta be careful with all that, though." he finally says as he looks back to Nathan. "Can't go trottin' 'round the galaxy shootin' bad guys your whole life, right? Eventually yer gon' hafta settle down and figure out what ya want."
Leah glances around the room with a snicker before nodding. "Slash interior designer." she adds to the resume.
Jason chuckles as he continues to button his shirt up incorrectly. "You're gonna stand up there with me and hand me the ring when it's time." he explains, looking back to the asari. "I know, I know. It's a complicated mission, but I think you've got what it takes to take the reigns on this one." he jokes.
Jessica steps back towards Yan Sun and takes a position her left side and faces her. "You are no fun." she complains before she leans in quickly and presses her tongue against the side of Yan Sun's cheek as she lifts her camera and quickly snaps a picture of herself irritating Yan Sun.
Christopher steps between Jason and Ilyna, giving an apologetic glance Ilyna's way. "Sorry but-..." he offers the asari before he aggressively begins unbuttoning Jason's shirt to fix the mistake. "All wrong, Jason. All wrong. You're not tying your own tie." he decides.
Jason's grin turns to a frown as his uncle steps in to fix his shirt. "I-... I saw it!" he lies. "...Was just about to fix it..." he adds in a much lower mutter.
Steve nods a few times, looking down into his beer uncomfortably over the current topic. "So... uhh....... Just out here for the wedding then?" he attempts to make small talk, immediately taking a large sip of his beer afterwards.
Li scrambles out from under the desk at Mikey's urging, despite her confusion over the game. She runs after him, shooting a glance back at Tim.
Nathan lowers his arms to his sides and his brow furrows faintly. "Heh... yeah, well... I don't think I'll reach that point anytime soon." He gives a smile, but it clearly lacks the usual bounce he has. "All I know is my explosives and fighting." He throws a hand idly in the air. "Anyway! How's the shuttle doing? The old girl still kicking?"
Ilyna nods, chuckling as the uncle comes to the rescue. "I understand," she says and steps back, but she doesn't leave the room.
Sofia nods and looks to Halisi. "Yes. I'll finish my studies and then I'll take to the stars... to put it in a romantic genre." She laughs softly. "I want to do it. I want to share my music with others beyond Earth. To travel, to see new life and cultures... the idea is... is...".
Yan Sun flinches as Jessica licks her cheek and takes a picture, embarrasment crossing her face as she freezes in place. "Gah-... what are you doing?!" she mutters through gritted teeth, shooting her a look.
Oxaris waves a hand slightly. "Slash interior designer." She looks around the rec room, seemingly searching for someone. She lets out a gentle sigh before looking back to the trio. "So, Tara, was it? You're not with Redrock, so what do you do?"
Ehanis enters the rec room, immediately headed for the fridge to get something alcoholic. The asari does not feel at home in this formal setting, though it doesn't help that both her mother and her sister are in the same building. She looks at Steve for a moment, but doesn't interrupt his conversation.
Halisi smiles softly, listening patiently. As it becomes clear Sofia is trailing off she speaks up. "It's a wonderful idea I think. I assume you will be sticking to more civilized space?"
Sofia blinks and clears her throat. "Wonderful. Yes, that was the word. Uh, yeah. I'll keep to Citadel space and stuff. Oooh, imagine that! Performing on the Citadel to thousands of people! Ooooh, that would be amazing." She seems to gain a dreamy glint to her eyes and smiles.
Cynthia nods. "Pretty much. Wouldn't miss it. Chief's been through so much shit... she deserves to be happy. And Jace is a good guy. I'll probably stick around for a while, was a long trip, and I'm not in a rush, so whatever."
Jasper seems about to press the issue further, but when it's clear Nathan doesn't want that, he acknowledges the subject change with a nod and glances out towards where the shuttle bay door would be if it wasn't covered by dark red fabric. "Ol' girl is, indeed, still kickin'. Still ain't gotten that weaponry we was hopin' fer, though. She's out in the cold fer today." he explains as he glances back to Nathan. "Ah. She'll get over it.
Jason glares at his uncle as they're stuck face-to-face while his uncle buttons his shirt like he's ten years old. "Are we good now?" he asks pointedly as his uncle steps back and examines the shirt.
Gage doesn't give Jason much breathing room as he steps in immediately after with the tie. "I got it." he assures Chris as he lifts Jason's collar and begins to tie it.
Jason's nostrils flare as he sucks in a deep breath, looking past both Gage and his uncle to Ilyna as he mouths the words 'Help. Me.' but his lopsided grin makes its return soon enough.
Mikey continues to truck around the corner and then drops to his knees, using the desk to hide behind. He immediately pulls Li over and brings a finger up to urge her to remain quiet. "He thinks we're gonna keep running." he whispers and, sure enough, as soon as Tim gets out from under the desk he begins moving the other way in hope of cutting them off. Mikey stifles a giggle as he properly reads his brother.
Steve gives a nod, keeping his own thoughts to himself on both Jason and Vasquez. As Ehanis enters the room, his gaze snaps to her and he doesn't make much effort to hide it. He shifts his beer into his other hand so he can specifically wave to her with his cast-wrapped arm. "Where you from, anyway?" he asks Cynthia, gaze still locked on the asari in a slightly distracted way.
Sofia snaps out of her dreamy stupor with a sheepish look. "So, doctor, how have things been with you?"
Nathan lets out a small sigh. "It would be nice to put some weapons on her. Having the additional firepower would just be a dreeeam. I'll see what I can do, because damn I would like to start learning to fly again. All I tried was simulators back with Sandbeck."
Li joins Mikey under the table, remaining silent as urged, but moving her head as she curiously looks at Tim run past them. She glances back to Mikey as it becomes clear his brother didn't notice them, letting out a quiet giggle as she starts to get the hang of the game. "I'm Li." she whispers.
Victoria made her way into the Redrock building, she walked at a rushed pace, believing she was running late. She was dressed in a black suit with a grey shirt under the suit's jacket, she also had her hair tied back. As soon as she entered the building, she went straight upstairs to join the festivity.
Mikey pokes his head out for a brief second to watch his brother after he swoops past. "I'm Mikey." he whispers back. As children tend to be, he prods without any real filter: "Who was that alien lady you were with?"
Jasper places his hands into the pockets of his slacks and gives a couple of nods. "Can't say I got too much experience teachin', but yer more than welcome ta' ride along with me if ya want a lil' more experience in the cockpit. Might be a lil' tough with all them hours yer puttin' in down at the Respite, though. How long's that goin' fer, anyhow?"
Jessica rolls her eye. "A boring guest. Come on, let's-..." she begins but gets sidetracked as Victoria shows up and she quickly orients her omni-tool to take a picture of her. Then another. Then a third.
Nathan scratches the back of his head. "I don't know... long as it takes, I guess? I'll just see if I can't squeeze out of a shift or two, though. I'd really like to get in the cockpit and having you as a... guide would be neat." He gives Jasper a sly grin and a nod.
Va'ynna is standing around the corner in the locker room, using intel relayed by Uvena about the cameras' blind spots. "I... um, you...," she murmurs, trying and failing to politely express her discomfort with the dress she's wearing as Uvena is holding up a mirror. The dark blue dress is mostly modest, but the shoulders and arms are exposed; her biggest problem is the V-neck that goes low enough to bother her.
Uvena sighs. "Come on, you look great!" she says as she brings up her omni-tool to type a quick message to Victoria to get another agreeing voice in the room.
Va'ynna eyes the omni-tool's glow suspiciously, ready to turn away if she spots a camera. "What... are you doing?"
Ehanis takes a beer out of the fridge, then turns to stare back at Steve. "I look stupid in this, I know," she says before opening the beer.
Jasper sighs and gives a couple of nods. "Hopefully there ain't no need for all a' this security... But it is what it is, I s'pose."
Cynthia follows Steve's gaze to Ehanis, studying the asari. "Huh? Uh... New York. Live on Elysium now." she responds, before lowering her voice: "Oh man, I recognize her! She's hot as hell. Shit, what's her name, help me out here-..." she goes quiet as Ehanis approaches. "Nah, looks good!" she calls out, even though the asari was speaking to Steve. She raises her bottle in greeting.
Tarkus had taken a taxi to get to Redrock, he wanted to spend as little time in the cold as possible. He paid for the taxi and made his way into the building. He was wearing formal turian clothing, it was mainly black but it had patterns and sections that were grey and white. Once inside the building he slowly made his way upstairs.
Steve allows a small smile to show through at Cynthia's comment. At the very least, along with Ehanis' candid comment, it helps to break the ice after the history they have together. He considers his options for a moment before recalling his conversation with Renala and his agreement to let it go. He gives a brief roll of his eyes before straightening up his posture and giving a nod. "You look fine, Ehanis. Welcome to the
Ilyna folds her arms as Jason looks to her for help, and she can't help but grin as she observes his friends and family fussing over him.
Halisi gives a fainter smile, looking out across the hangar briefly. "Oh, I've been well enough. The clinic has kept me busy, most days. I've spent some time looking after Li as well. It's amazing what Ilyna is doing for her."
Li furrows her eyebrows, lowering her hands to her lap as she remains sitting on her knees. "Lyna is my mom." she says, as if that should be obvious.
Leah's smile grows as she looks to Tara, offering no comment of her own to assist the young girl in conversation.
Yan Sun follows Jessica's gaze as she's sidetracked, leaning back against the wall again and smirking slightly as she realizes she'll probably be distracted by her work for a while.
Victoria did not notice Jessica take the first photo, but gave a smile in the next two photos. She then notices her omni-tool light up, reading the message, she makes her way to the locker room. She knocks on the door and then enters the room.
Tara blinks. "I... cook and clean, ma'am." she says quietly, gaze darting up at the towering turian briefly as she gives a respectful tilt of her head.
Mikey tilts his head to the side. After a moment, a giggle escapes him and his eyes go wide as he clasps his hand over his own mouth. He remains silent for a few seconds to listen for his brother. When it seems like they're in the clear, he moves his hand. "Nuh uh. You can't have an alien mom." he explains. "Only human moms can have human kids. Alien moms have alien kids." He looks Li over for a moment. "Are you an alien?" he asks with
Halisi sighs quietly. "It's... not really my place to talk about it, but we found the poor girl on a mission. Orphaned. She took her in." there's a weight and lingering sadness to her voice that wasn't there before, and it takes a while before she meets Sofia's gaze again.
Sofia blinks and she lowers her head slightly. "Oh... oh that's...". It's a bitter shock of reality for Sofia, to be reminded that the galaxy is not always a just and wondrous place. "Ilyna sounds like a lovely person. To take Li in."
Jessica moves over to the table where Steve, Ehanis, and Cynthia are and begins rudely snapping pictures of them without warning. Having been on the Rakhana event, the potential tense situation isn't lost on her. "Mmm. Need photos from before you two kill one another." she says aloud as she looks at her omni-tool interface.
Leah decides to field that one. Only slightly, just to try and curb Oxaris' obvious concerns. "Not for anyone... She has a job. A real job." she explains, uncomfortable with the idea that Oxaris may believe Tara to be her slave. "...That she gets paid for..."
Li 's frown grows. "Can too!" she exclaims, sounding frustrated, but there's a hint of doubt, and perhaps confusion, in her face. She looks off to the side and then shifts to sit with her legs on front of her, crossing her arms and refusing to look at Mikey.
Yan Sun pushes off from the wall and starts heading towards Leah and company, giving a wave as she approaches but not interrupting the conversation.
Mikey looks even more confused. But he shakes his head a few times. "My dad told me." he explains, as if that must make it true.
Tara nods faintly. "Yes, ma'am. The... Miner's Respite." she says, her voice quiet, almost a little hoarse.
Gage finishes up with the tie before giving Jason a wink. "See? Looking great, Jay." he compliments before stepping aside.
Christopher examines his nephew for a moment before giving an approving nod. Despite his somewhat rigid nature, there's an obvious hint of pride in his expression.
Jason looks down, giving a couple nods before tucking his shirt in and moving over to his jacket- which is hanging off his wall-mounted Revenant- and shrugging it on. "Whaddya think, Ilyna?" he asks as he gives a little spin for her before stopping to face her. "Think Linda is gonna run for the hills when she sees me?"
Leah gives her typical big, bright smile as she spots Yan Sun. "Heeeeeey. Off the clock today, so if you want a drink you'll have to get it yourself." she jokes.
Steve blinks a couple of times at Jessica's comment before glancing to Ehanis with no small amount of discomfort. With a roll of his shoulders, he brings the beer bottle to his lips and takes a sip.
Halisi nods, a faint smile returning. "Yes. She truly is. Without a doubt the most selfless person I have ever met." she says, her smile growing briefly and a quiet hum escaping her as she looks off to the side. She clears her throat subtly as she returns her attention to Sofia. "Redrock is full of good people." she adds, her expression returning to its previous state.
Ehanis raises her beer in turn. "Thanks," she says. "You don't look so bad yourselves." She takes a long sip of the beer. Ehanis seems a little uncomfortable, but it's unclear whether that's because of Steve or the formality. "I wish they've told me before that the ceremony would be out in the cold, though," she says.
Cynthia shakes her head. "Nah, it's cool, we've got these, uh... heater... things. Shouldn't be too bad." she explains, taking a sip of her beer as she studies Ehanis. Jessica's interruption causes her to blink, looking to Steve and Ehanis in confusion. "Feel like I'm missin' something here..."
Sofia smiles up to Halisi and nods eagerly. "Yeah, everyone seems really nice." She pauses for a moment and then shifts a little, something bothering her a little.
Uvena grabs Va'ynna's arm and brings her out into view of the door, almost dragging her. "Tell my daughter that she looks fantastic," she says, "and that she's got nothing to worry about."
Va'ynna fidgets with her hands, and tilts her head. "You're late," she points out in hopes of distracting her.
Tank enters the rec room, looking around with a brief hint of a smile tugging at her lips as she observes the guests, most of them unfamiliar. She's wearing a drab green dress uniform, likely unrecognizable to any of the guests. It fits her impressive frame well, and she looks almost as imposing as in her armor. After making note of the people in the room she opts for the couch rather than interrupting either of the ongoing
conversations, taking a seat, her gaze falling to the floor as she her minds quickly starts to drift.
Jasper remains silent as the conversation comes to a slowdown. He gives a sigh and passes a glance back towards Jattic. "Well, I'm not gon' keep ya any longer, Ten. Should prolly finish makin' sure everything is good ta go. But we'll catch up later, alright?"
Halisi furrows her eyebrows slightly, the pause not going unnoticed. "Something on your mind?" she asks softly, tilting her head a bit.
Tarkus made it upstairs, he did not know anyone here or who he should talk to. He felt a little out of place, so he just makes his way to the rec room and slowly studies in his surroundings.
Jessica simply shrugs to Cynthia, offering no explanation before darting off to snap photos of both Tarkus and Tank. When she gets to Tank, she just takes a knee between Tank and the TV, probably blocking her view if she was watching it, and takes a couple photos as if she thinks she's some sort of ghost when she looks through the omni-tool interface that's incapable of inconveniencing the other guests.
Nathan blinks and looks back to Jasper. He nods and extends a hand out for him to shake. "Good plan. I'll finish setting up the keyboard then I'll probably head upstairs to mingle for a bit until the ceremony starts."
Jasper gives a stern nod. "Sounds like a helluva plan, Ten." he says as he accepts the handshake with his usual level of spunk. "I'll meetcha up there."
Nathan grins and gives Jattic a nod too. "See you there too, Jattic." He then turns and walks back over to his keyboard, offering a smile and a wave to Halisi and Sofia.
Yan Sun smirks slightly. "Think I can manage that." she says before tilting her head to try and get a better look at Tara. "Hey! Tara, right?" she asks, knowing full well that she's right.
Ilyna smiles widely as she looks him over. "Of course not," she says. "You look good. Besides, Vasquez doesn't seem the type to run away over formalwear." Ilyna chuckles. She wanted to say something about the video, but her better judgement won out this time.
Tank furrows her eyebrows slightly as her thoughts are interrupted by Jessica's blocking of the TV. "Can I help you?" she asks.
Victoria closes the door behind her once she enters the locker room, she looks at Va'ynna. "I know, I am late. Sorry about that." She stops for a second before she continues. "But your mother is right, you look fantastic and there is nothing to worry about. You only gotta wear it for the wedding, then once we are home you can change out of it."
Halisi lets out another sigh, this one heavier than the last. "She... has a lot on her mind. She can be... harsh, yes. But it is not without reason. Has... she said anything to you?"
Leah gives a small snicker at Tara. Small steps. She tosses an arm over Tara's shoulder and gives her a brief sidehug. "I decided to brave the waters and talk to your girlfriend, by the way." she says to Yan Sun.
Jattic grunts some sort of affirmative to Nathan as he swaps the vodka and the rum for the eigth time.
Jessica stands up and looks over her interface to examine the photos. When Tank speaks up, she looks the large woman over, cocking a judgemental eyebrow. "I doubt it." she says before walking off, face buried in her omni-tool.
Va'ynna steps over to Victoria and strokes her arm. "You... look good," she says as she leans forward to see what she's done with her hair. Va'ynna hasn't seen Victoria since morning, as she's been busy working and preparing the food.
Yan Sun winces slightly. "Uh-... don't call me that. I think we're like... the same age." she requests with a small smirk, turning her attention to Leah - and immediately wincing again. "Uhm... alright. How... did that go?" she asks tenatively.
Mikey frowns, lowering his gaze in embarassment. "...Sorry." he says with a shrug as he realizes he upset her. "My dad is dead anyway." he adds, as if that might mean he was also wrong by some sort of stretched logic.
Tank seems puzzled, but soon returns to her own thoughts, activating the omni-tool on her wrist and looking at a small display in silence, elbows on her knees as she leans forward.
Oxaris nods a little and decides to move away from the conversation. She opens her omni-tool and starts tapping away at it.
Leah glances off to the side and, conveniently enough, Jessica enters her view looking as annoyed as ever. Leah shrugs as she looks back to Yan Sun. "Oh... You know. Could've went better." she says, though she delivers it with a cheeriness that betrays her words.
Sofia shakes her head slightly. "No... not since the party at Leah's place. I just got an... uneasy feeling from her." She elects not to comment further, instead looking to Nate as he continues to fiddle with the keyboard.
Nathan mutters some angry noises, probably in german as he looks underneath the keyboard. He furrows his brow and raps his knuckles against it.
Sam is, much like the rest of Jason's old unit, dressed in her Alliance formalwear. She's not too far from Emma, simply looking out over the surrounding terrain. After a long amount of silence has passed, she finally looks Emma's way. "Beautiful as fuck out here, right?"
Jason shrugs his shoulders as he looks down once again to examine his shirt. He adjusts the jacket for a few moments. "Guess I should just consider myself lucky that she hasn't ran off because of the guy in the formalwear." he jokes, though there's some clear indication that his nerves are a bit rattled.
Li looks over at Mikey, her frown softening. She thinks in silence for a moment, unease in her face as conflicting memories trouble her mind. "My dad is dead too..." she says quietly.
Christopher places a hand on Gage's shoulder and nods towards the door. The other man returns the nod and they start towards it. "Just give a shout if you need us, Jay." he offers as they give Jason and Ilyna a bit of privacy.
Emma looks over at Sam, studying her uniform for a moment before nodding. "The sky is... breathtaking." she replies, returning her gaze to their surroundings after a brief look up at Litae and the rings. Her demeanor remains stiff, almost on edge.
Mikey looks over to Li. "Oh! Cool." he says. "How did he die?" he asks, lacking the experience and wisdom required to know how insensitive of a question that was. "Bad guys killed my dad. Uncle Jason tried to save him but he couldn't." he explains with a shrug as if it's the most natural thing in the world to talk about.
Sam kicks a foot against the floor as she nods. "Kinda makes you forget how fucking dangerous this place is, don't it?" she snorts.
Ehanis snorts at Jessica, but she doesn't feel the need to answer her since Steve did. She sighs relieved, and sips her beer. "I should have known that," she says. "Doesn't seem like them to bring us all here just so we can freeze our tits off."
Yan Sun scratches her neck with a slightly uncomfortable smile. "She's-.. uh..." she lets out a sigh, trailing off and leaving an awkward silence as she fails to finish the sentence.
Victoria smiles at Va'ynna. "Thanks. You look great. And as I said, you only got to wear that dress until this is over. Then we go home and you can get changed, simple." She stated trying to make the asari feel less nervous about wearing the dress.
Emma lets out a quiet snort of her own. "Beauty and danger go hand in hand in my experience. Can never let your guard down." she comments, without looking Sam's way.
Tarkus took a seat on the couch next to Tank, he figured he might as well try to talk to someone. "Hey, I'm Tarkus."
Sam gives a chuckle and nods to herself. She allows a few moments of silence to pass before changing subjects. "Marksman?" she says, something between a question and a statement. She gestures to the non-existant hat on her own head.
Ilyna places a hand on his shoulder. "It's a big day," she says. "I admit, I would be shaking were I you." She sighs once the door closes behind them. "What's troubling you?"
Cynthia shrugs as the conversation moves on. She snickers at Ehanis' comment. "Just lemme know if you're feeling cold anyway. I can help with that." she offers with a grin, leaning against the counter as she looks the asari over.
Li is not used to talking like this, and for a while she goes quiet, looking troubled, but eventually she responds. "Monsters." she says in a whisper, her gaze darting around as if they might hear her.
Tank studies Tarkus with displeasure as he sits down next to her, raising an eyebrow as her translator recieves his greeting. "Tank." she says, offering nothing else. "What do you want?"
Leah's smile remains as she looks to Yan Sun. "...Her own brand of awesome." she says with a nod, finishing Yan Sun's sentence with her own words.
Jessica calls out, "Look over here you big mother fucker!" As Mendez looks her way entirely unamused, another photo is snapped.
Jason gives a chuckle as he glances down at the asari, which is followed by a deep sigh. "Nothing... Just-... I don't know. It's just nerves, I guess..." He reaches across himself, patting Ilyna's hand a few times. "...This makes it official, you know? Guess I just... keep waiting for something horrible to happen. Something horrible always happens." he explains with a humorless chuckle, "Kind of our thing..."
Mikey's interest skyrockets at the mention of monsters. "Monsters?!" he asks, his volume raising a little too high. He's quick to lean forward and poke his head out to make sure he hasn't alerted his brother. He eventually crawls back in. "What kind of mosnters...?" he asks, a mix of hesitation and genuine interest.
Yan Sun glances over her shoulder at Jessica before looking back to Leah, a mix between a smile and an uncomfortable grimace crossing her face. "...yeah." she says, settling for agreeing with Leah's finishing of her sentence for now. "Everything okay with you two?" she asks, looking from Leah to Tara, lingering on the markings for a moment.
Tarkus gives a shrug "Just saw you sitting here alone, figured I might as well come over and have a conversation with you."
Halisi goes silent for a while, looking over at Nathan as well. "Well, maybe you'll get to see a different side of her today." she comments, seeming mildly amused. "One few of us have seen, I suspect."
Va'ynna frowns. "Yeah, I...," she says. The asari has few reservations around Victoria, but she feels much safer hid behind a modest dress when around strangers. She gives Victoria a kiss on the cheek. "Okay, I'll wear it," she says, "but... it's the last time I trust... anyone to buy me clothes without me."
Tank looks at Tarkus for a moment, her expression blank. "You figure wrong." she says before turning her attention back to her omni-tool, tilting the screen to make sure Tarkus won't be spying on her.
Sam continues to look out towards the surrounding countryside. "Combat medic." she says, giving the ground another solid kick with the toe of her dress shoes. "Servied with Jay out in the Traverse. Patrol and recon."
Leah looks Tara over for a moment and gives a nod. More so to Tara than to Yan Sun. "...I think we are. We're... figuring things out. Right, Tara?" she asks, making sure to include Tara in the conversation.
Emma furrows her eyebrows, shooting another look Sam's way as she puts the pieces together. "Ah. I met the rest of your unit, I believe."
Sofia chuckles and nods, looking up at Halisi. "Maybe. Hopefully we can all eek it out of her." She sighs and waves at Nate. "I should... help him. He's good at playing the keyboard, but he somehow never seems able to set it up properly." She giggles and peers to Halisi. "Talk later?"
Mikey falls silent, caught between wanting to press the question further and being afraid to do so. Thankfully, he doesn't have to make that choice as Tim jumps to all fours right in front of the pair, shouting "FOUND YOU!" which catches Mikey so off guard he actually screams and is so focused on the assumed monster attack that he's unable to avoid Tim prodding him in the shoulder.
Sofia nods and, with a final wave, darts back over to her brother. There is hushed conversation between them, with Sofia throwing her hands around in frustration as she seems to just reach around and press something on the keyboard. She presses a single key, a soft plink in the air.
Victoria kisses Va'ynna back on the cheek. "Well, I like that dress on you. So don't worry about a thing, okay?" Gives a chuckle. "What, so you won't trust me to buy you a dress?"
Nathan stares down at the keyboard, then looks to his sister before affectionately flicking her ear.
Mendez frowns as he notices Tara's lack of confidence. "We're going to fix it." he says, eyes fixed on Tara the whole time. Unsure of what Yan Sun knows of the situation, he leaves it at that. His promise to Tara.
Tara blinks, looking up at Mendez, and meeting his gaze, at least for a moment. She nods again, looking almost afraid, but the tiniest hint of a smile tugs at her lips for just a moment as she lowers her gaze again.
Ilyna nods and closes her eyes for a moment. "It is, but... we always overcome it," she says, leaving out a detail or two about losses to not ruin her point. "You'll be fine." She takes a step back. "And if something happens... well, you can count on me."
Jasper looks to Tarkus as he examines the options available. "Got yerself a case a' the pre-ceremony munchies?" he asks with a big, jovial grin.
Va'ynna gives a tight-lipped smile. "Especially not you," she says, mostly joking. She starts making her way out of the locker room, looking a little nervous.
Li startles as Tim suddenly pops into view, scrambling back against the desk wall, and staring at him with wide eyes as she presses against the wall, breathing hard.
Jason gives a somewhat sad snicker, but nods. "Yeah... That much is obvious. And don't think it goes unappreciated." he says, but his expression grows serious and he gives a more sincere nod. "I mean it. Thank you for always being here for me. For Linda. You have no idea how much it means to me."
Tarkus looks at Jasper and shakes his head. "No, just figured I would look at what dextro food is available."
Mikey groans as he's tagged, but noticing Li hasn't yet moved, he tries to take advantage of the opportunity to poke her in the shoulder. "You're it!" he announces. Tim has already backed out from under the desk and is scurrying off, his giggles getting further and further away.
Li barely seems to notice Mikey's prod, her breaths uneven and lips quivering as she stares ahead, gaze distant.
Jasper gives a nod to the container in front of Tarkus. "Well, we've got-.... uhh... whatever that is. And then we've got-..." he reaches out, rapping a knuckle against the heated container beside it. "Whatever this is." he adds. They're not fancy meals. Just a couple of the most popular dextro dishes locally. "Plenty a' booze fer ya, though." he continues with a nod towards the amassed bottles. Specifically the ones with the
Victoria puts on a shocked face. "I feel betrayed." She follows Va'ynna's lead. "Don't worry, I'll be right here with you."
Mikey scurries to get out from under the desk, but when he looks back and realizes Li isn't giving chase, his laughter dies out and he stops in place and rotates to face her. "Hey. Are you okay?" he asks, brows furrowed.
Li 's gaze manages to focus on Mikey, but her panicked reaction remains. "It's-It's gonna get me." she stutters out, her voice distant, and her gaze unfocused, despite looking at Mikey. Looking through him. "It's gonna get me. It's coming. Wh-... wh-..."
Tarkus lets Jasper explain, he then tilts his head at the bottles with 'Quarian' sign in front of them. He just shrugs at it. "So is it sterilised booze? Is there even a quarian working here?"
Li curls into a ball, her gaze moving now and then, paying no attention to Mikey. She's shivering, breathing still off. "N-... no. No. No."
Ehanis gives an amused snort. "You know where the warm blankets are, huh?" she says, though a quick wink makes it obvious she understood. "I'll let you know." She takes another sip of her beer.
Jasper gives a shrug of his shoulders as he examines the signs. "Jason made the signs so I put 'em up. I ain't one to ask questions." he snickers.
Mikey crawls closer to Li on his knees, placing a hand on her shoulder to give her a little shake. "Hey! It wasn't the monsters, it was just Timmy!" He gives her another shake.
Vynira emerges from the office, and makes her way down the hall, taking the time to admire the decorations while she awaits the ceremony.
Li 's gaze snaps to Mikey, as the shaking gets her attention. She stares at him for a moment, but her breathing starts to calm. Tears quickly follow however, and she's quick to call out: "Moooom!"
Cynthia shoots Ehanis a smug grin and takes a long swig of her beer as she looks out across the room. "Feel like this thing should be starting soon..." The cough reminds her of Steve's presence and she glances his way. "I'm Cyn, by the way."
Mikey seems at a loss for what to do. He glances around before saying, "I'll go find your mom! You just stay here!"
Jennifer is quick to pull herself away from the other two as she hears Li call out. "Mikey! What did you do?!" she immediately accuses as she stomps towards them.
Mikey is quick to get defensive. "I didn't do anything, mom! Honest! We were just playing It and she started crying! I don't think she likes being It." he frowns.
Jennifer sighs, rolling her eyes at her son, and places one hand on the desk as she leans down to get a look at Li. "What's wrong, sweetheart?"
Ilyna smiles. "I'm glad to have you as well, Jason," she says. "And I'm sure Li is too." The asari has not (yet) instructed Fergus to relay any calls for 'mom' to her.
Jennifer sighs, giving a sympathetic sigh. "Oh, sweetie... You stay right here, okay? I'll go find your mom. You-..." she says, looking pointedly to Mikey, "...Come with me."
Mikey folds his arms across his chest, pouting at being accused. He casts one last look to Li before following his mother.
Priya exchanges a few words with Jennifer and, a few moments later, moves to watch over Li until Jennifer can return.
Jennifer having been there when Ilyna and Shane exchanged words, heads straight towards Jason's office. She doesn't bother buzzing before opening the door and peeking in, interrupting Jason and Ilyna. "Hey, I'm so sorry to interrupt you two." she offers sincerely, "But Li is-... I think the kids had a bit of a disagreement during their game and she's asking for her mom."
Mikey's muffled voice can be heard from behind Jennifer. "We did not! She just started crying and I don't know why!" he exclaims.
Jessica finishes taking a few more photos before coming up behind Yan Sun and wrapping her free arm around the woman's waist. "Sorry to interrupt." she offers the others insincerely, "...But I am needing to show you something. By the closet." she says as she leans in over Yan Sun's shoulder so she can look at her. "The closet." she repeats, followed by a wiggle of her eyebrow.
Jason offers a smile to Ilyna and goes to respond when the door opens. His smile fades as he looks from Jennifer to Ilyna and he gives a nod. "Go make sure Li is alright." he says, "I should finish up getting ready anyway."
Yan Sun lets out an uncomfortable chuckle, giving Leah, Mendez and Tara a small wave before pointing over her shoulder and taking a single step backwards, and glancing at each of them. "I, uh, I've gotta go..." she mumbles, obviously embarrassed by Jessica's lack of subtlety.
Ilyna spins around, looking very concerned as she listens to what she has to say. "Goddess," she mutters. When Mikey speaks, her concern only grows. "I'll talk with her." She hurries over to the open offices, scanning the room for any sign of her daughter. "Li?"
Leah furrows her brows, looking between the two. "Uh huh.... You two-... uhh.... Have fun..." she offers.
Mendez doesn't seem particularly bothered, he just gives a nod and turns his attention back to Leah.
Va'ynna enters the rec room along with Victoria after a moment's heitation, but she doesn't go far into the room.
Tara tilts her head slightly, studying Jessica briefly as she joins them. As she pulls Yan Sun away she blinks, remaining silent and lowering her gaze once more.
Jessica gives an insincere nod of appreciation to the others as she releases her grip on Yan Sun and backs away from the group.
Ilyna walks over to and crouches down in front of the desk, looking at Li; unable to hide her concern. "What happened?" she asks. She had no trouble believing that it was no fault of Mikey's, but she still wanted her side of the story.
Jennifer remains behind to offer another brief apology to Jason before heading back out into the hall to have a talk with her son.
Yan Sun follows Jessica away from the others, giving her a light shove once they have a bit of distance from the others. "Jessica!" she exclaims in a loud whisper, some of the embarrasment still lingering, mixed with a bit of frustration, and, a tiny hint of amusement as well.
Li doesn't answer Ilyna, but she looks up when she hears her voice, and immediately crawls out, hugging the asari and burying her face in her dress, crying into it now.
Jessica cocks an eyebrow in Yan Sun's direction, nudging into her to direct her towards the door. "What? You would rather I am saying to them 'Excuse us while we go and are fucking'? Mmm? I am guessing that only one of us has any class."
Ilyna carefully sits down on the floor and pulls her closer. "It's fine," she murmurs. "Take your time, sweetie."
Yan Sun covers her face with her palm, letting out a long sigh, but nonetheless continuing towards the door. "You are just-... ugh." she mumbles.
Tim has made his way over. He's standing a couple desks away as he watches. "Is she okay?" he asks Ilyna.
Priya looks increasingly uncomfortable. "I will give you two your privacy..." she says before making a hastey retreat back towards Shane.
Sam nods a couple of times. "Good group." she says before casting a glance Emma's way, "I'm gonna guess since I don't know you, you're from the bride's side?" she muses aloud, having assumed if Jason had another friend from his Alliance days, they would've met by now.
Jessica is quick to shamelessly wrap her arms back around Yan Sun's midsection as soon as they step through the doors. "The bestest? Is what you were going to say, yes?" she teases.
Ilyna rubs her back gently. She gives a quick nod to acknowledge Priya, but she doesn't say anything. Ilyna is anxious to know what's bothering the girl, but she felt it best to be patient. Jason knows about it, so she trusts him to let the ceremony wait another few minutes.
Emma shakes her head. "Employee." she says. "Recent hire, but... everyone was invited. So here I am."
Yan Sun lets out a slightly uncomfortable grunt, giving up on arguing as Jessica's arms wrap around her. "Sure..." she says with a quiet snicker, shaking her head to herself.
Sam returns her attention to the view. "Gotcha. How is it working for Jay, anyway?" she asks before a smile tugs at her lips. "Gotta say I never imagined him being in charge of other people." Realizing that may come off wrong, he looks Emma's way, raising a hand defensively, "Don't get me wrong! He's an awesome dude! And there's few people I'd trust more to have my back. He just-.... Well he's never struck me as the 'leading' type."
Emma likewise looks out at the view again. "I... have not taken part in any field operations yet. But... Chief Vasquez is in charge of most of the day-to-day activity."
Jessica buries her face in the crook of Yan Sun's neck, pinching the skin on her neck between her teeth playfully. Immediately after, she shoves Yan Sun in the direction of the stairs. "Get moving. We are needing to make this quick, kitty cat! I have work to do!" she complains.
Yan Sun suppresses a giggle as Jessica bites at her neck, barely having time to glance around for other guests before she's shoved onward. "Wh-... seriously? We're really-..." her complaining trails off into a frustrated grumble, and she bites her lips before hurrying down the stairs.
Jessica as usual, seems to have little regard for whether or not other people are watching. She reaches out, grabbing Yan Sun by the waistline of her pants right after pushing her away and follows her down the stairs. "I tell you this already!" she continues to complain, "You were thinking I am joking?!" she scoffs, "When am I ever joking about fucking? Mmm?"
Yan Sun goes quiet, offering no response and simply glancing around when they reach the downstairs, hoping to at least avoid running into any guests.
Jennifer is just finishing up scolding Mikey. "You go in there and apologize for whatever you said to that girl right now, Mikey!" she says sternly.
Mikey continues to pout, arms folded across his chest. "I didn't say anything, mom!" he continues to argue. But the death glare he gets in response is all he needs to see. He stomps back into the room with his mother in tow to apologize to Li.
Jessica uses her grip on Yan Sun's pants to shove her forward then, when she's out far enough ahead, she tugs her back, jolting her back and forth as they continue their journey towards the storage closet.
Shane steps out of the shared offices as Jessica and Yan Sun cross the hallway's intersection and looks between the two before furrowing his brow. "Leaving already?" he asks, "Things haven't even started yet."
Yan Sun fidgets uncomfortably as Jessica does her best to make things difficult for her, and she seems about to reach for Jessica's hand when Shane addresses them. Her gaze snaps his way and she blinks. "Uhh... no, we'll be, uh... right back."
Jessica pauses momentarily, caught in the headlight that is Shane. "...Yeah-..." she agrees, nodding in agreement as Yan Sun speaks. "We are just-.......... going to-.........." she trails off, looking to Yan Sun, then to the front door, then to the closet door. Deciding it's too much effort to come up with something, she looks back to Shane with a shrug of her shoulders. "We are going to fuck in the storage closet."
Shane looks between the two. Discomfort doesn't exactly describe the expression that crosses his face when Jessica speaks up, but he's definitely a man who finds himself in a weird situation. "......Yeah. Yeah." he says, giving a quick nod as he glances down the hall. "You just-... uhh.......... have fun.....?" he continues, clearly unsure of how to respond.
Yan Sun covers her face with her palm, her face turning bright red as she mumbles something under her breath, offering no other response. She mostly seems to hope that if she ignores the situation it'll stop happening.
Jessica gives a genuine nod in response to Shane. "Oh... We will." she says as she nudges Yan Sun forward. Entirely immune to the concept of shame. After a few steps down the hall, she glances back over her shoulder, shouting back to him loudly and proudly, "And it is going to be hot!"
Shane places his hands on his hips as he watches them with a big dumb grin. Jessica's second comment causes him to lower his gaze to the ground and suppress a laugh. With a shake of his head, he takes a few steps down the hall and disappears into Jason's office.
Yan Sun continues down the corridor at a slow pace, face still hidden under her hand. She groans as Jessica shouts back at Shane. "I hate you..." she mutters quietly.
Jessica stops only once they've reached the closet. She palms the interface and removes her other hand from Yan Sun's waistline to press it against her lower back. With a little force, she shoves Yan Sun into the closet. "Good! Use that anger!" she encourages before cackling loudly and following her in.
Yan Sun has little time to protest as she's shoved into the closet. Turning around and exclaiming "...what does that even mean?!" as the doors close.
