#RedrockAgency – October 14, 2017
Vasquez is seated in her office, the screen of her computer terminal the only light source. Perhaps she's just ended up working late, or perhaps she's waiting for Jason to come home. She's dressed in her grey pants and her Redrock jacket, unzipped over a white tanktop, her hair pulled back in the usual ponytail, and she's left the door to her office open.
Jason's arrival isn't exactly stealthy. There's a couple of loud clanks and a very drunken laugh that follows. "I'm good! Go! Get out! I'm fiiine!" Jason assures someone. Gage can be heard responding but, given the fact that he's not shitfaced, he keeps his voice low simply out of courtesy to Vasquez in case she's asleep. "Psh, I've been drunker!" Jason says in response to whatever Gage said.
Vasquez brings her gaze up from the screen in front of her as she hears Jason's loud exclamations. She pushes her chair back and stands up, rounding the desk and stepping into the open doorway, looking around as the ceiling lights flicker to life.
Jason and Gage are heading Vasquez' way when she steps into the hall. Both stop. Just a couple of deer caught in Vasquez' headlights. Neither say anything at first. For what it's worth, Jason doesn't seem to need Gage's help staying upright this time.
Jason's lips barely move as he speaks up. "I think she caught us." he says in a whisper. A very loud, drunken whisper.
Gage lets a deep breath out through his nose. "Uhh... Hey again, Linda." he greets, giving a small wave.
Vasquez raises an eyebrow, her arms folding across her chest as she studies the two of them. "Well, this feels familiar..." she says, but she doesn't seem anywhere as frustrated as she was last Gage saw her. "Gage." she responds with a small nod. "Had fun?"
Gage tries to get out ahead of things, raising a hand, palm towards Vasquez as he gives a snicker and a shake of his head. "I swear to you this isn't a habit for me and my guys." he explains, worried Vasquez may have him pinned as a bad influence on Jason.
Jason bridges the gap between the pair and Vasquez and circles around behind her, folding his own arms across her chest from behind in a loose hug. "Had a blast." he responds with a quick peck on her cheek. "You should've come!" he adds, perhaps not exactly getting how the whole bachelor party bit works in his drunken state.
Vasquez seems about to respond to Gage, but as Jason approaches and encircles her she can't help a small smile from crossing her lips. She places a hand on one of his arms, despite the futility of the gesture, an amused snort escaping her. "Think that would've defeated the point, honey." she says quietly, turning her head slightly to glance at him.
Jason shifts in place a bit, rocking Vasquez ever-so-slightly from side-to-side with a dumb lopsided grin on his face. "What are you still doing up?" he asks, already assuming it was to wait for him judging by his tone. "Awww did you miss me? Worried I was out getting lap dances and shit?"
Gage mostly ignores Jason. "It was a pretty tame night. Just some drinks, a little dancing, and good company." he assures Vasquez with a friendly smile. "Definitely no lap dances."
Vasquez doesn't respond to Jason, but upon hearing Gage she looks his way again and gives a nod to acknowledge his words, the faint smile briefly returning. "Everybody-..." Her attention is briefly diverted as Jason's shifting unbalances her slightly, and something halfway between a sigh and a chuckle escapes as she reaches back further with her hand, scratching his neck while still addressing Gage. "Everybody get home
Jason moves one arm to wrap around Vasquez' midsection, giving her a tight squeeze. "Yeeeep." he answers, despite the question not being directed at him.
Gage gives a shake of his head, unable to keep a small smile from crossing his face at Jason's state. "Yeah..." he nods, "Just me and-..." he cocks a thumb back over his shoulder towards the front door, "...a couple of my own out there. Figured we should make sure this troublemaker-..." he nods to Jason, "Gets home safe and sound first."
Jason scoffs at the suggestion that he needed any help. "I should be helping you get home." He tilts his head to the side to look at Vasquez. "Should be helping you get home!" he repeats before pressing another peck against her neck. The fact that it makes no sense doesn't seem to stop him.
Vasquez grimaces slightly at Jason's breath, but still briefly leans her head against his with an "Mhm..." before returning her attention to Gage. "I should be getting this one to bed. But I'll see you all for the wedding."
Gage offers a friendly smile and a nod of his head. "Looking forward to it. You take care, Linda." he says as he takes a step back. "And you get some rest." he instructs with a look Jason's way. He turns his back on the pair before starting towards the door.
Jason continues to cling to Vasquez from behind. "I'll sleep when I'm dead!" he calls back to Gage. "I've got some other plans right now." he continues in a slightly more hushed tone, giving Vasquez another squeeze and a wiggle of his eyebrows to punctuate his intentions.
Vasquez shakes her head to herself, gentle extracting herself from Jason's grasp, slight amusement lingering in her face as she looks at him. "You get ready for sleep. I just need to shut down my terminal." she says with a gesture towards her office.
Jason gives an insincere, dismissive nod her way as Gage exits the building. "Uh huh." he agrees, though completely disregards her request and follows her into her office. He takes a position against the wall just inside of the room, folding his arms across his chest. "So what were you doing down here? It's like-...." he glances around looking for some indication of what time it is, "...late!"
Vasquez moves around her desk and powers down her terminal before looking over at Jason with a sigh. "Just doing some work." she says dismissively, before heading for the door.
Jason is quick to scoop Vasquez up in a hug once again, retaking his position behind her and walking awkwardly behind her with a wide stance that requires both of them to pretty much rock back and forth to make any forward progress. "You work too much." he says, pressing his face against the back of her hair. "Tooooo much work."
Vasquez temporarily resigns herself to the awkward movement pattern, but when they reach the stairs she breaks free again, heading up ahead of Jason. "Somebody has to..." she points out - from her tone it's not meant as a barb, just a fact.
Jason grips the railing tightly as he follows behind. When they reach the top, he's fallen a few steps behind. He's not exactly in peak condition for stair climbing. To prevent her from getting too far ahead, when he's at the top stair he reaches out to grasp at the top of her pants and tug her back. "So grumpy!" he teases through his stupid smirk. "Relaaaaax. Have some fun! We're getting married!"
Vasquez stops as Jason tugs her back towards him, and she inevitably gains a smile as she hears his enthusiasm, drunken though it may be. "Yes. We are." she says, looking back at him and, after brief glance down, reaching for his hand, partly to guide him to keep moving.
Jason uses the railing to pull him up that last step. Once in the hall, he interlocks his fingers with Vasquez' and lifts her hand to press a sloppy, drunken kiss against the back of her hand as he's guided along. "Just-... Just need to get through these next few days before you realize how big of a mistake you're making." he teases, nudging up against her playfully.
Vasquez offers no response, but a hint of a guilty look briefly crosses her face as they proceed in silence towards their room. Once they reach it she opens the door with a quick swipe.
Jason isn't particularly in the right state of mind to notice such a brief change. It seems he's quite affectionate in his current drunken state. He releases his grip on Vasquez' hand and practically tackles her into the room with another hug from behind. He presses a few quick kisses against the nape of her neck before resting his forehead against the back of her head. "I love you, Linda." he mutters softly as he sucks a deep
Vasquez stumbles into the room, only just regaining her footing in time for Jason to start kissing her neck. Her smile returns with a quiet sigh, and she reaches back to gently scratch the back of his neck again. "I love you too, Jason." she replies quietly, not trying to extract herself this time.
Jason brings his left hand up to begin pulling Vasquez' jacket off. As he does, he presses a few more kisses across her shoulder. "That's good..." he continues, his other arm still wrapped around her waist, his own proximity to Vasquez fighting against him as he attempts to remove her jacket, "...Because otherwise this wedding would be reeeeally awkward." he snickers.
Vasquez lowers her head with an exasperated, but light-hearted sigh. She goes along with Jason's effort to remove her jacket, taking the opportunty to rotate in his embrace as she does. "Guess it would." she agrees, placing her hands on his sides and studying his face with a small smile. "Sounds like you had fun with your friends tonight?"
Jason gives a couple of nods as he devotes an intense amount of focus towards getting that jacket off. Once it comes off and falls to the floor he's able to finally commit enough of his remaining brain cells towards properly answering. "Kind of reminded me of the old days." he admits through his drunken grin. "Fortune's Den? Just... music. Drinks. Dancing. Friends. Less people trying to shoot me, but what can ya do? No place is
Vasquez smirks slightly, running her thumbs back and forth across his sides as she studies him. "Glad you had fun. Nervous about this weekend?"
Jason shakes his head as he places his hands on her hips. "I don't get nervous." he lies. But it's a confident lie. "You?"
Vasquez ' smirk wavers and she shrugs slightly. "A little, I guess." The truth is more like a fuck-ton, but in the face of Jason's appearance confidence she's not one to admit that. "Pretty big deal." she says, following up with another understatement.
Jason cocks an eyebrow. "The fierce Chief Vasquez is nervous about a little wedding? Nerves of steel when marching across a battlefield where the shrapnel is flying, but ask her to put on a dress and march down an aisle and she clams up." he teases.
Vasquez doesn't seem very amused by the teasing, a slight frown crossing her face as she looks away. "Nevermind." she sighs. "Now you... go brush your teeth." she says, propping her smirk back up when she returns her gaze to him, using her hands on his sides to rotate him and push him off towards the bathroom.
Jason stumbles a bit as he's shoved towards the bathroom. He glances back at her as he continues on his way and raises an arm to point at her threateningly, but ends up walking into the doorframe with his shoulder. His gaze snaps forward and he narrows his eyes on the doorframe as if it must've just come out of nowhere before disappearing into the bathroom. "It's fine. It's fiiiiine." he calls out. "Change the subject. I just want
you to-..." he begins, but trails off for a moment. A few clings sound out before the sound of running water can be heard. "I just want you to know that I know what you're doing! And I'm letting you get away with it because-... because marriage is about compromise! So that's what I'm doing right now." His voice grows muffled as he begins to brush his teeth. "I'bm cobromishing."
Vasquez winces slightly as Jason walks into the doorframe, likely feeling it more than he does. She shakes her head to herself, heading over to the edge of the bed and sitting down to start removing her boots.
Jason remains in the bathroom for a few moments after the water stops running. When he exits, his shirt is slung over his shoulder and his pants are unbuttoned. He moves over to the bed but continues to stand as he sloppily works at removing his boots, pressing one hand against the bed to keep himself balanced.
Vasquez unbuttons and slips out of her pants before bringing her legs into the bed, crossing them as she turns towards Jason and observes his epic struggle with the boots, remaining silent.
Jason continues like this for a solid minute or so before noticing Vasquez watching his struggle. With a frown, he tosses his shirt at her. Accepting that maybe he should sit down to finish, he plops onto the edge of the bed and finally manages to remove his boots. Thankfully it's much less of a battle to get out of his pants.
Vasquez smirks slightly when Jason notices her, but soon finds her head covered by shirt. She balls it up and tosses it over to the couch before pulling the covers aside, slipping underneath and gesturing for Jason to come lie down.
Jason lazily kicks his pants aside and climbs into bed, slipping under the covers and scooting closer to Vasquez.
Vasquez frees her hair from its ponytail, using one hand to shake it loose. She moves closer as well, her tiredness almost immediately making itself known through a long, almost soundless yawn as she wraps an arm around Jason's midsection, letting her head come to rest on his chest, her ear over his heart. It seems to be by far her favorite way to fall asleep, even more so after their recent hardships.
Jason presses a kiss against the top of Vasquez' head as he brings an arm around her. It provides significantly less comfort than it once did, but the small amount of pressure is better than no sensation at all. Despite his clear intentions earlier, it seems that the night's events and the massive amount of work his liver has had to do has just taken it out of him, because he doesn't bother even trying to pull off some slick
moves. As soon as his head hits the pillow, he cuddles up against his wife-to-be and closes his eyes. He manages to mutter a low, "G'night."
