#Halisi'sApartment – July 8, 2018
Ilyna looked a bit guilty for a moment as she considers the question. Things could have been different if she hadn't let them drift apart all these years ago. That might be why she is how she is, but it's not the exact problem. "Ehanis doesn't like talking about how she feels, that's no one but her's to deal with she thinks," she says. Ilyna pauses for a moment, doubt creeping in about her current
conversation. She doesn't really know if being honest with Li would help her open up to her more, or if it would only needlessly bring these painful memories to the front of her mind. Ilyna looks down at the floor. "Nobody came home from what we went through without scars and bad dreams, I could tell on the ship. I just wish she would talk about it instead of packing her bags and leaving."
Li 's gaze falls away from Ilyna. Something the asari said made her go silent, and she doesn't ask anything else, instead pulling her legs up to her chest and wrapping her arms around them as she curls up into a ball in her seat in the couch.
Ilyna should have expected this, but she didn't; not to this extent. For a moment, she just looks at her paralyzed. Maybe she made a mistake, or maybe the pain is necessary in order to put this behind her. Ilyna had no way of knowing, and that was heartbreaking. She shifted closer to her and placed a hand on the shoulder furthest to her. Her movements are slow and careful, she doesn't want to make it any
Li shows no real reaction in what little of her face is visible between her black hair and her knees - her thoughts are unknown and distant.
Ilyna shifts even closer and gently pulls Li closer to her. There's a lot she wanted to say, but her doubt was paralyzing. Her own troubles with her diagnosis was at a later stage of childhood than Li is in, so she doesn't feel her experience could help her. The only thing in common is that her mother never gave up on her. Ilyna takes a deep, but quiet breath. "It's going to be okay," she whispers before
placing a brief kiss on the top of her head. "I know it will." She felt a bit of pain as her swollen nose made brief contact as well, but she ignored it.
Li still doesn't say anything, keeping her thoughts to herself. There's just silence - but she does lean slightly against Ilyna.
Ilyna gives her shoulder a gentle squeeze. The silence worries her, but she feels it wouldn't really help to remind her that she can talk to her. So right now, she closes her eyes and joins her in silent contemplation.
It's evening and dark out by the time Halisi returns to the apartment. Another long day at the hospital. She doesn't really announce her presence as she steps inside, starting to remove her outerwear without much urgency. Her tiredness is obvious in her unfocused expression. Li lying in the couch, eyelids heavy as she watches the TV with a distant gaze- she probably ought to be getting ready for bed.
Ilyna made some simple dinner about an hour or two ago, but aside from that, she has been right next to her watching TV. She has barely registered what was on screen between bouts of micro sleeps and deep thought. The sound of the door opening quickly gets her attention, however, and she casts a glance over her shoulder. With how early the sun sets, she may not have realized just how late it was. "Hey," she
says to Li, patting her shoulder. "Bedtime?" Judging by her voice, Ilyna's isn't very far off either.
Li lets out a quiet noise of discontent at being roused from her half-sleep before sitting up and looking to Ilyna. She's old enough to brush her own teeth, but supervision is still advised, and Halisi will have recommended as much - not to mention the fact that she can't really reach most of the things in the doctor's bathroom.
Halisi steps further into the room after removing her boots, shooting Ilyna and Li a faint smile as she approaches the couch. "Hello, you two."
Ilyna stands up. "Bedtime," she repeats in case it was lost in her half-awakening. Her first instinct is to hide her face again after she gets a look at Halisi, she hadn't considered how tired she'd be when she decided to wait for her to get back from work. "Hey," she says while on her way to the bathroom to move the things into place for Li to get ready for bed. "How was work?"
Halisi lets out a sigh. She's not very keen on showing her weariness, but with her new guests sharing her home she has little choice. "Busy." she offers, putting a small smile into place before Ilyna and Li disappear into the bathroom. She heads over to the kitchenette meanwhile, pouring a glass of water for herself.
Ilyna steps back after putting the toothbrush and paste down by the sink, remaining quiet as she watches her. No matter the time that has passed since her bringing Li's terrible memories up, she is still doubdting her every word.
Li reveals little of what goes on in her head. Her toothbrushing is model though, and she looks to Ilyna once she's ready for bed.
Halisi glances over towards the bathroom once Li and Ilyna emerge, giving a nod towards the bedroom. "Take the bed." she says with a soft smile. It was obvious Li couldn't sleep well on her own right now.
Ilyna nods to Halisi, not having the energy to put words to her initial disagreement. Once in the bedroom, she gestures to the side she slept on last night. "I just need to speak with Halisi first, is that okay?" she asks. "I won't be long."
Ilyna steps out of the bedroom, closing the door behind her. She walks over to join Halisi watching the screen, though she doesn't pay attention to the turian cartoon either. "Ehanis is gone," Ilyna says. "Vasquez told me she had quit, but she hasn't told me and I can't reach her."
Halisi raises an eyebrow, looking over at Ilyna. "Gone?" she asks, quickly followed by: "You think something's wrong." She studies the asari with an attentive silver gaze.
Ilyna nods, turning towards Halisi. She has cleaned up her injury, but the medi-gel is still there and so is the swelling. "I went to her apartment to see if she had truly left, and her roommate tried to kill me," she says, keeping her voice down. "I didn't answer her call last night. She wanted to tell me something's wrong, but every time she's called me before was because she's had too much to drink and
Halisi 's expression turns to surprise and concern. "What? She attacked you? Are you-... are you alright?" she's quick to blurt out, one of her hands reaching out towards Ilyna's face as she tries to get a closer look at her injury now that it's plain to see up close.
Ilyna doesn't pull away when Halisi reaches for her face. Her nose is not crooked, but the swelling is interfering a little with normal breathing. "I'll be fine," she says. "I contacted her today, but she didn't answer, and nobody answered the door and my key still worked, so I went inside. I was desparate to catch up with her. When I opened the bedroom door, she threw me across the room." She looks a bit
guilty, but she manages to resist averting her gaze. "I had paid the taxi driver to wait for me, since I didn't want to be away from Li any longer than I had to, so I managed to get away when it was too dangerous to question her."
Halisi seems satisfied with a brief visual inspection of Ilyna's nose - although her hand lingers on the asari's cheek for a moment before her words cause her to pull back, confusion crossing her face. "Dangerous? What-... I don't understand. What's going on...?"
Ilyna tilts her head for a moment at Halisi's reaction, studying her for a moment. Does she think this has something to do with her condition? Even if she doubts Li hears her, she does not dare to ask. "I got her off of me, and suspended her in the air with my biotics," she says. "Only then did she answer my questions, but when the field expired, she was on top of me again before I could even blink." She
Halisi 's confusion only grows, concern returning as it becomes clear that Ilyna fled without resolving the issue. "I'm glad you're alright." she offers, going quiet for a moment as her gaze darts off to the side, trying to make sense of what Ilyna is saying. "You don't have any idea why she attacked you? We should-... have you talked to Redrock? How long ago was this?" she asks as she looks back to her.
Ilyna nods. "She was angry with me about Ehanis, she made that very clear," she says. "I know Mian, I lived with her and Ehanis for a while. She's aggressive, rude, un-... but I wouldn't have expected her to attack me like that." Ilyna pauses for a moment before realizing she didn't answer her completely. "It was in the afternoon, so I don't thinkshe followed me back," she continues. "Vasquez knows about it,
Halisi seems surprised to learn that several hours have passed. "So... what's the plan? Are they bringing her in?"
Ilyna sighs. "I don't think so," she says. "I've been more concerned about Ehanis, to be honest." She casts a glance over her shoulder at the door. "I'll contact her in the morning, ask for a meeting in my office," she says. "If she knew where I lived, she would have sought me out already, so I'm not worried about her coming to us."
Halisi frowns, concern lingering in her voice. "You were attacked! This is urgent. And your sister-... do you think this person did something to her?" She's already activated her omni-tool, diving her attention between it and Ilyna.
Ilyna looks down at the omni-tool. Maybe Halisi is right to see the urgency in this situation. Ilyna just wanted to be back with Li, and had too much on her mind to really worry about Mian once an hour or so had passed. "I don't know," she says. "She barely told me anything. She did say that Ehanis attacked her when she tried to stop her from leaving, though, but... I don't know."
Halisi raises an eyebrow. "Attacked her? That's-... do you think that's true?" It's obvious from the tone of her voice that she doesn't, and she seems a little baffled by Ilyna's seeming lack of concern. She's brought up the interface to call Redrock, but hasn't done so yet, looking over to Ilyna in search of an answer before making contact.
