#FreedomFalls – February 20, 2015
The settlement is at the end of the north-leading local road, at what's considered the outermost parts of Freedom Falls' territory. It ends in cross where one way leads off to a few streets with twelve houses, where eight of them are symmetrical and split into two apartments. There is one apartment building tha'ts more than a floor, though. There is a small store and a pub (closed for the moment) there. The largest buildings are
a couple of production buildings owned by a company founded by three farmsteads that couldn't take the financial risk on their own. There are two names of it. 'Road's End' and 'Erantha', the latter named after someone who lost their life making a real difference defending during a raid decades ago.
Victoria flew the shuttle to the coordinates going to pick up Ilyna and landed in the correct area to land.
Leah is standing in the shuttle doorway as it slides open. She's dressed in a pair of well-fitting jeans and a short-sleeved blue t-shirt beneath a black jacket. She holds onto a handhold and sort of leans out of the open door, peering around for any sign of Ilyna.
Ilyna opens the apartment's door, which is a sliding door that would give a krogan some trouble getting through without bringing the frame, and steps outside. She's bringing a bag with her, which likely contain her armor and other things. Ilyna's weaing a gray jacket almost zipped up with a black shirt underneath that's hiding most of the skin. Her pants are dark-blue. She says her
The shuttle wouldn't have a hard time landing on the street, but it would mean some attention to it from neighbors.
Leah gives a soft smile as she spots Ilyna and hops out of the shuttle. "Looks like we're going to be spending some time living like the rich and famous." she says as she moves to meet Ilyna, "Need a hand with anything?"
Ilyna nods. "Hopefully it is simply spending time, without trouble," she says with a smile, ands hands her the bag. "Yes, please."
Victoria relaxed in the pilot seat ''Does that mean we have to make a private vid that slips into the public domain, and makes us more famous? That is if we are living like we are rich and famous.''
Leah takes the bag and heaves it into the shuttle as they near. She grimaces at Victoria's comment. "Good luck with that." she says, "Have either of you actually seen anything he's been in?" She asks as she hops into the shuttle, using a handhold to hoist herself up.
Ilyna enters the shuttle last. "I have," she says. "You haven't?" She finds a seat near the door and sits down.
Leah closes the shuttle door and gives a shake of her head. "I don't get a whole lot of free time to watch vids these days. Can't even remember the last one I saw." she says as she takes a seat across from Ilyna. A large crate is strapped in place nearby, most likely housing Leah's weapons and armor. "They any good?"
Ilyna shrugs. "It depends what kind of vids you like watching, I suppose," she says. "I especially liked A Beautiful Shade of Blue... I don't know, I just really like stories about forbidden love." She smiles sheepishly. She puts on the harness.
Leah tilts her head to the side, "Nothing wrong with a little romance every now and then." she says. As Victoria pipes up, Leah gives a chuckle, "I can get on board with that. Though something tells me that you and I have different ideas of what constitutes as 'love'." she smirks.
Ilyna brings up a hand to cover her mouth as she holds back laughter, her facial expression giving that away.
Leah chuckles again. "I didn't mean anything by it, Vicky." she assures. She pats her hands against her the tops of her legs as she looks over to Ilyna. "So, what's the plan, anyway? Jason hardly told me anything in his message. Just said we were going to be going incognito, so keep the gear crated unless we needed it." She stops to think about it for a moment and shrugs, "Well, to be
honest, he probably did say more, but I can barely understand anything he types. He spelled 'incognito' with two z's and a question mark."
Ilyna chuckles. "I sometimes get weird translator suggestions in messages from him, that must be why," she says. "The agent didn't want to give it to the press that he is accompanied by armed thugs, so we have to keep a low profile. Concealed weapons are okay."
If he is in Adrasteia, we'll need one of us to stay fully equipped here, or at a bar or somewhere in the proximity. Anywhere where we can get help within minutes. I have a strong barrier, but without anyone to take pressure off of it, it's just prolonging the inevitable.
Ilyna nods. "He'll be staying somewhere outside the city, with family," she says. "There's a chance he'll stay there for the entire time, but I guess we'll know when we meet him. While he's with family, we don't have much to do other than to just make sure they're safe."
Have you had a chance to talk to him yet? Do we know anything about him? Does he seem like a good guy?
Leah stands from her seat and opens the shuttle door. "Alright.... So how are we playing this, Ilyna?"
Ilyna undoes the harness and stands up. "To him? Just say we're with Redrock Agency," she says. "We'll work with him on a story when we're on the shuttle to Adrasteia to explain us following him around."
The spaceport doesn't seem to have been affected too much by the recent attack. A few people can be seen exiting the building as Leah opens the shuttle doors.
Leah hops out of the shuttle and gives a nod, "Alright. You know what he looks like, then? Or should we have signs with his name on it or some shit?"
Ilyna follows out of the shuttle. "I don't think we should broadcast his arrival like that," she says. "I think I can recognize him, as long as he's not traveling with anyone looking like him."
Leah nods once more as she shuts t he shuttle door. "Lead the way." she says, falling in line behind Ilyna.
Ilyna nods and makes her way into the space port, looking for any sign that indicates where docking bay 13 could be.
Just through the front doors, a large, open room with high ceilings greets them. The room is largely devoid of any furnishings, but a few groups of people are gathered at different points, most are just standing around talking. Just to the left of the entrance is a group of three armed men, all wearing jet black armor. They seem to be deep in negotiations with a man looking to hire them for protection on a voyage to Omega.
Directly in front of Ilyna and Leah, the room tendrils out into numerous wide hallways, each marked with directions and numbers. Off to the groups far right, the markings beside one of the halls reads "Docking Bays 13-16" and has an arrow pointing down it.
Ilyna looks around the room after entering, noting the people present. After noticing the sign, she makes her way there, doing her best to avoid going near visibly armed people.
Leah follows closely behind Ilyna. "Glad I'm getting the chance to work with you, Ilyna. After the way Jason built you up at the Respite the other day, it's an honor. Now, I don't mean to pry, but does this mean you're with the agency?"
The hall continues for some time, eventually forking in two directions. "Docking Bays 13-14" is on the wall before them, with an arrow pointing to the left, while "Docking Bays 15-16" accompany an arrow to the right. A small vehicle slowly rumbles from the hall to their right. It looks as though it has numerous carts behind it, each filled with some sort of heavy cargo.
Ilyna raises an eyebrow. "I... I'm not that amazing," she says. "Unless a barrier is needed, I'm just as good as the next mercenary." When she reaches the intersection, she walks towards the hall to the left.
Leah follows the asari down the forked path. "Well, then consider this a formal 'welcome aboard' then." she says with a smile, "How long have you actually known him?"
The forked path follows a similar setup as the previous hall, eventually forking wide once again with one path indicating Bay 13, and the other path pointing towards Bay 14. A group of batarians are heading towards Ilyna and Leah from Bay 14, and none of them look too pleased.
"We'll get it replaced in town, and then we'll get off this planet by morning." one says. The batarian leading the group, a burly, broad shouldered batarian in blue armor, slams the one speaking against the wall, and drives a forearm under his chin. "I don't need words, Morak! We're two days behind schedule, and we won't have enough rations to feed the cargo for much longer. Get. It. DONE." he demands.
Almost two and a half year, but I didn't speak with him for over a year after I gave up on being a mercenary.
Ilyna tries to walk past the batarian, staying close to the opposite wall. She looks more than a little uncomfortable.
Leah gives the batarians a quick glance, but doesn't linger much. She noticeably lowers her gaze as they pass the unruly group.
The batarians, for the most part, don't even bat an eye (Not even one!) at Leah and Ilyna. They continue their bickering amongst themselves. Morak bats his boss' arm away and stomps off down the hall.
Leah gives a quick glance over her shoulder to make sure they're not being followed. She seems a bit distant for a moment as she continues her previous line of thought, "A year? There a story somewhere in there?" she asks before quickly cussing, "Oh shit... I'm sorry. You don't have to answer that. I didn't mean to be so nosey."
Ilyna shrugs. "No, just me being me," she says. "I'm terrible at keeping in touch with people far away. Just ask my father." She chuckles.
Leah gives a chuckle. "I suppose I have the opposite problem." she offers, "Couldn't imagine losing touch with my pops."
I was busy getting settled in with a new military unit, and she moved to Illium for a better job. It just... happened. It's fine now, though.
The hall eventually opens up to an average sized room with a few chairs against the far wall. To the left is a door leading to the docked ship. The ship can be fully seen through the windows lining the wall on each side of the large door. It's a rather small space-worthy ship. An older man is leaned against the wall beside the door. He immediately moves to greet the pair. "Redrock?" he asks, not sounding very confident as to
The man looks pretty relieved. He raises his omni-tool and presses a few buttons on it. "Wasn't worth the credits." he mutters as he returns to his ship through the door.
Leah watches the man leave and looks thoroughly confused. "What was that about?" she asks Ilyna as she reaches back and fixes her ponytail.
Just as Ilyna finishes her sentence, the door hisses open once again, and out steps Devin Tanner. He's wearing a pair of black slacks that are probably too tight, and an expensive-looking jacket. The jacket isn't buttoned up, revealing a very loud flower-patterned shirt beneath it that doesn't seem to match the rest of his ensemble in any way.
Devin appears to have some sort of magnetic implants around his eyes, as he wears some sort of shades, but they're not held in place by anything. They're merely two individual frames, that aren't even connected to one another, with dark lenses. His large coif of hair looks well fed, as if it has just eaten an entire bottle of hair spray. "Sorry, bitches! Ain't got time for autographs!" he announces as he spots Ilyna and Leah.
Ilyna looks a little taken aback, but composes herself relatively quickly since she kind of have to. She starts to approach him. "The contract is already signed anyway," she says, not making it clear whether it was a joke. "I'm Ilyna T'Rea, responsible for your security during your stay on Aite. Please come with us, we have a shuttle outside."
Devin moves to meet Ilyna. His walk is a confident, if ridiculous-looking, swagger. As Ilyna approaches him, he reaches up with both hands, and removes the frames from his face. He looks like a pretty average 22-year old. It's obvious that quite a bit of post-effects are applied in his vids, as he's not nearly as beefed up as his vids would imply.
He looks Ilyna up and down, arching his back slightly to lean backwards, as if he's taking in the whole sight. "No shit?" he asks, "I was expecting some big motherfucker, or something. What do you weigh?" he asks. Before she can respond, he adds, "Shit, I bet I could take you. This passes for security on your planet?"
Leah stares holes through Devin. She bites down on her lower lip so hard to avoid opening her mouth, she nearly draws blood.
Ilyna nods, remaining confident and patient. "I don't do hand-to-hand, I'll give you that," she admits, "but you must not forget about biotics. At the first sign of trouble, I'll have a barrier up in seconds."
Besides, your agent requested we don't look like armed thugs, because the press would be all over that if they found out.
Devin snorts loudly. "My 'agent'. Lil fat shit. Of course he'd say something like that. That dude doesn't have a backbone. Can you believe he let me push his pinball-ass down a flight of steps for a few hundred credits? Fuck him. Get out the rocket launchers 'n shit. Show people that they don't fuck with Devin Tanner! I'm lookin' to break into the action vids anyway."
Leah attempts to bite her tongue and take Ilyna's lead. "Uhh.... I'm trained in numerous martial arts, Mr. Tanner. Rest assured, no harm will comse to you. Just trust us, we know what we're doing." she says through gritted teeth.
Ilyna shakes her head. "We're paid to ensure your security," she says, "not start a war with Adrasteia. Real combat is nothing like an action vid."
Devin sighs as he looks over Leah. "This another one of yours, too?" he asks Ilyna, "You do know who I-.... Of course you know who I am." he assures himself, "I ain't asking you to start some war or somethin', sweetheart. But shit, is this what my life is worth to you people? Pretty sure my last bodyguard weighed about as much as the two of you combined, then doubled. Fuck it, just-... Let's get out of here."
Leah slowly turns her head to face Ilyna. She doesn't say anything, but it's obvious that she's not happy one bit. She immediately starts back down the hall.
Ilyna gives Leah an apologetic smile before starting to make her way towards the hallway. "If you're not happy with it, then get your agent to change the terms of the job," she says. "We all brought proper equipment, but the job limits us to make do with biotic amps and concealed weapons while in public."
Devin follows behind Ilyna. "Ahhh, come on. Don't be like that." he says, "I'm just fuckin' with ya. You do what you do. Kor might be spineless lil' fucker, but he does his research. If he chose you, I'm sure he had a good reason. Besides, spendin' a couple days with the two of you could be fun." He adds an inappropriate little laugh after speaking.
Ilyna smiles slightly as she continues down the hallway, not increasing her pace. "You're stuck with us for a few days, so for you sake, hopefully it will be," she says, not sounding too serious, "but we can discuss the plans on the shuttle."
The group of batarians are still crowded around at the fork in the hall, aside from the one called Morak. The one in blue armor still seems to be fuming. "If he had not fucked up, we would already be back." One of the others pipes up, attempting to calm their leader down, "Don't worry about it, boss, we have a good haul. It will all work out."
The armored batarian snaps back, "We won't have a good haul if they all die before we can offload them! Perhaps I should begin feeding them your rations." For a moment, it looks as though the armored batarian may even strike the other, but he quickly calms himself down.
