#Adrasteia – March 1, 2015
Cross glances over at Gigglez as the others exit and lets out a deep sigh. "Gigglez... What am I supposed to do with you. I've given you and your friends chance after chance after chance..."
The group exits the way they came, and an Enforcer shows them to their shuttle. It's clear that it's been looked through, but nothing appears to be missing. Victoria's armor is sitting on the floor. The Torthus-Cross hotel is a luxurious place that stands out like a sore thumb in Aite. The foyer floor is covered with ornate tiles and intricate detailed designs decorate the high ceiling.
As Cross assured them, a room is ready and waiting for the group. A room at the top of the building, on the 24th floor. Torthus-Cross Hotel wouldn't be considered a large building by the standards set on more developed planet, but in Aite, it was a giant among midgets. The room is beautiful. Decorated in bright reds and browns.
The main room has a single large screen on the wall opposite of a large, comfy-looking sofa. From the front door, the group would be able to see a small, open kitchen directly across the 'living room' and, through that kitchen, a balcony. To their left are two closed doors.
Ilyna enters into the room, looking around thoughtfully. "This is great," she says with a tiny smile before walking towards the closed doors to scout out the rest of the hotel room.
Devin enters the room and swings his arms a bit. He lets out a whistle as he takes a few steps. "Didn't think places like this existed on Aite." he sings, "Feel like I'm on a real planet."
The door on the left leads to a bathroom. Large by bathroom-standards. There's fluffy robes hanging on the wall, and a large bath tub with built-in massage jets. The floor is a beautiful marbled black-and-grey. The door to the right leads to the bedroom. It's equally luxurious, although somewhat more simple. There's a single dresser against the left-hand wall.
Beside it is a wide closet. The bed takes up most of the room. A large red comforter is draped over it.
"This place is nice." She said as she walked into the room. She then looked at the kitchen ''Hope there is some food over there.''
Leah enters the room and pulls her jacket off with a sigh of relief, tossing it haphazardly onto the couch. "They said our room service was on the house. Might want to take advantage of that, Vicky." she offers.
The kitchen is only separated from the main room by an island counter. Five stools are places at the counter. The kitchen is mostly bare, but has all the essentials. Fridge, stove, microwave, sink. The room gives off the impression that it's usually reserved for people who will be having long stays, to give them some semblence of a normal home.
Ilyna closes the doors. "There's just one bed, though," she says before also taking off her jacket and finding a place to hang it up.
Devin shrugs to himself as he moves towards the balcony. "I don't see a problem." he smirks. "Holy shit, we've got a jacuzzi on the balcony!"
It's still raining outside, but the balcony is covered. It gives a pretty spectacular view of Adrasteia.
Ilyna chuckles. "I'm sure we can bother the staff to bring in another few beds," she says. "And please don't stay too long out in the balcony, in case whoever this Raymond contacted wants to make another attempt."
Devin waves her off. "It got pretty hairy back there, but we're safe. How would they even know where we are, Ilyna?" he asks as he opens the door to the balcony. "Relax. Take advantage of this beautiful room. I doubt you guys get to live this way often-..." he pauses and looks back at them, "No offense.... I'm just saying you guys are probably poor and stuff."
Leah frowns at Devin and goes to say something, but hears Victoria and decides it would probably be more productive to just ignore Devin for now, "Uhh.... Okay... What am I ordering?" she asks as she removes her omni-tool from her jacket pocket and activates the interface.
Ilyna nods. "Not often, no," she says, stepping over to the kitchen to find a glass, "but I have stayed at rooms this nice on Thessia." When she finds one, she fills it with tap water and takes a tentative taste of it to see if it's decent.
Victoria shrugs at Leah ''No fucking clue, food and alcohol. That is all I care about.'' She stopped and rubbed her face and saw dried blue blood on her hand ''I should wash this shit off.''
Devin glances back at Leah as he overhears her and Victoria's discussion, "I want a burger. Biggest fuckin' burger they've got. And a bottle of champagne. No, two bottles of champagne. Whatever's expensive." he calls out. He looks towards Ilyna, "What're you havin', Ilyna?"
Devin struts over beside the couch, leaving the balcony door open, and leans down beside Victoria, "Gonna need a hand in there?" he asks with a big grin.
Ilyna hums thoughtfully as she turns to face the others. "Some sort of steak, doesn't matter," she says. "And... just pick any soft drink. And keep the alcohol to one glass. You're still working."
Leah winces and nods. "Of course." she says as she turns back to her interface and removes the large amounts of alcohol she was preparing to order. A few taps later and the interface dissipates. "Well, that's that. Should be up soon, I guess."
Victoria looks at Devin ''Sorry boyo, you don't have tits or blue skin.'' She stood up and find the bag with her stuff and went to shower.
Devin chuckles and gives a shrug. "You change your mind, just give a shout. But get some of that shit off your face. Fuckin' gross." he calls out after her. He turns back towards the balcony and makes his way out onto it.
Ilyna smirks at Victoria's retort, but has no comment. She makes her way over to the couch and takes the vacated seat.
While on her way to the shower ''If I shout out for anyone, it would be Leah.'' She then disappears into the bathroom.
Leah blinks a couple times, then looks back in Victoria's direction appearing quite confused. "What did she just say?"
Ilyna raises an eyebrow. "You mean... she hasn't done that to you before?" she says with a chuckle. "I thought was something she usually did 10 minutes after meeting someone."
Leah shakes her head. "Didn't she just say 'tits and blue skin'?" she asks with a chuckle as she raises her arm, "I'm pretty pastey." she says before adjusting her shirt, "And I'm not exactly packing a whole lot."
The whole city can be seen from here, although it's a bit difficult to see far currently due to the lack of light and the rain. The area immediately around the hotel is nicely lit up, but the further away from the heart of Adrasteia, the darker the city seems.
Ilyna shrugs. "I don't know," she says. "Victoria... is, well, Victoria. That's the only way I can describe it."
Ilyna shakes her head. "Not much of a story there, I'm afraid," she says. "She asked for a kiss the first time I met her at the Miner's Respite a long while ago."
Victoria walked out of the bathroom, she had a black shirt and green pants on and a towel around her head. ''What are you guys talking about?''
Ilyna gains an obviously feigned innocent expression. "Nothing," she says followed by a pause. "I could really go for five hours in that tub, though."
Ilyna nods. "Very," she says before standing up from the couch and walking over to put down her glass on the counter.
Victoria jumps over the couch and lands on it. ''Girl party in the tub?'' She looked at the door ''Someone get that.''
Leah stands up from the couch and moves over near the door, following Ilyna. "I'm not agreeing to that." she says, giving a chuckle, "But I'm sure Devin could keep you company."
An asari wearing a hotel uniform pushes a large tray into the room. Upon it is three large burgers, a thick steak, and a bucket of ice with two bottles of champaigne, a bottle of soda, and a few beers. "Here you are." the asari says brightly before taking a step back out through the door, "Enjoy!"
The asari tilts her head to the side a bit. "Beds?" she asks, "I suppose we could bring up a few cots... Would that be sufficient?"
Leah grabs the tray and rolls it the rest of the way into the room. "Just got us the same thing Devin got, Vicky."
The asari gives another smile. "I'll have them sent up right away." she says before turning and setting off down the hall.
Devin exits the balcony when he notices that room service has arrived. "Looks delicious." he says as he approaches the tray. He reaches over and grabs one of the bottles of champaigne out of the ice bucket and presses it against his face. Where he was punched is a deep purple that extends to his eye. "Fuckin' starving."
Ilyna moves over to take her plate and the soft drink. "Check if the news have something to say about us," she suggests.
Leah grabs her plate as well as a beer. "You said one." she reminds Ilyna with a smile, and moves over to the couch.
The news channel displays an asari sitting behind a desk. In the upper left-hand corner of the screen is a close-up picture of Ilyna and Devin, hand-in-hand. "...well as sources reporting the couple making out in the club before the shooting began. We're unable to reach Tanner or his agent for comments at the moment, but we'll keep you posted."
Devin sets down the bottle of champaigne and takes a big bite out of his burger, chewing loudly as he watches the screen. He doesn't even seem phased by the story. "Fuckin' awesome burgers."
Ilyna shakes her head. "Goddess," she says. "I thought we gave them enough to work with without having to make anything up." She puts the plate on the counter before moving off to get utensils.
Victoria started to laugh ''YES!!! I fucking love it when they get idiots to tell them the stories.''
The picture changes to an image of the Alliance insignia, and the news anchor begins to go on about the Alliance investigating missing colonies.
Devin drops a bit of his burger onto his plate and points at the screen. "Don't even worry about that." he says with a mouth full of food, "They're fickle as fuck. This week it's you, next week it'll be someone else. They see me with someone, they instantly assume we're fuckin'."
Ilyna chuckles. "If anyone from the press ask, don't give them my family name," she says. "Let them speculate until they get bored." She puts the utensils on her plate and looks around for a table.
Devin waves her off, "Oh, don't worry, I won't need to. This is what these people do for a living. They've already got your name." he says, "And yours..." he nods at Victoria, "....and yours...." he nods at Leah.
Devin gives a shrug, "Could always just change your real name." he jokes, "Go with a new last name. Something saucey that makes you sound like a pornstar. Something like-...." he pauses, "I don't know, Steels. Or Love!"
Ilyna can't help but laugh, as well. She enables her omni-tool. "I'm glad I muted this, then," she says. "Fifty-three unread messages... fifty-four, and twelve missed calls."
Devin raises his eyebrows, "No way! That's hot." he teases as he shoves the rest of his burger into his mouth.
Family and friends back home mostly, it seems. Most of the missed calls are from my mother, though... she gets judgemental when she thinks I'm with someone.
Just tell her we love each other and it's none of her business. You can date whoever you want to date!
There is no kitchen table, only the island connecting the kitchen and living area with stools around it.
Devin puts a hand up. "Nobody move. As my way of thanking you all for fighting a bunch of street thugs in my honor, I'll answer the door."
Victoria yawns ''Someone put my food in the fridge or something. I am gonna sleep on this couch or something.''
Ilyna puts down the utensils and gets up. "Negative," she says with a chuckle and makes her way over to the door to open it.
A couple members of the hotel staff are holding cots. A turian has one under each arm, and a human is holding one in front of him. "Where would you like these?" asks the turian.
Ilyna steps aside to let them in. "Put them where there's space, please," she says. "We're only staying until tomorrow, so them being a little in the way won't be a problem."
The turian gives a nod and steps inside. He sets the two cots between the couch and the screen. "This good?" he asks as the human sets his cot off to the side of the other two.
Devin looks over the cots. "Looks preeeeeeeetty uncomfortable. Shame, really. Considering there's a nice, comfortable bed right in the other room with more than enough room for all of us." he says with an ear-to-ear grin.
Victoria walks over to one of the cots and collapses on it. ''Going to bed. Night.'' She closes her eyes and tries to go to sleep.
Leah furrows her brow. "You keep dreamin, Mr. Celebrity." she sighs. She takes another swig of her drink.
Devin sighs and grabs his bottle of champaigne. "Sun will be up soon, Ilyna. Should check it out. Great view from the balcony."
Leah continues munching on her burger. She doesn't take her eyes off the screen as she speaks, "Keep your eyes on his hands. You know he's a perv."
Devin shakes his head and rolls his eyes. "Bottle of champagne?" he raises the bottle, "Beautiful sunrise? What else does it take to persuade you!?"
Devin gives a shrug. "I'll be waiting with bells on." he teases as he heads off towards the balcony.
Leah continues watching the screen. "Suppose today could've went worse. Nobody got hurt." she says, "Well... None of ours."
Ilyna gives up on the meal when most of it is eaten and walks over to the fridge with the leftovers and puts it inside.
Well, considering our running record... You know, our own office being blown up and stuff, I doubt he'll have much to complain about. So long as the client is happy.
Leah nods towards Devin standing out on the balcony. "He certainly doesn't seem to be too affected by much."
Ilyna makes her way over to pick up Victoria's plate. "Hopefully the rest of his stay will be less hectic," she says. She moves over to put that in the fridge, as well.
Ilyna makes her way over to her bag and opens it. "I don't know," she says. "He had planned to go out to town after we were done at the club, but... that changed." She picks out a folded piece of clothing a small bag she intends for laundry. "I'll have to ask."
Leah nods. "Probably best if we get out of the city. No telling what sort of connections that Raymond guy has."
Ilyna nods. "I'll bring it up," she says, "but he's probably going to visit his family's home again." She makes her way over to the bathroom, closing the door almost so she can still hear what's going on in the main room.
Maybe... But that'll at least get us out of Adrasteia. Maybe that whole ordeal showed him just how dangerous this place can be. Might be worth recommending we spend the rest of our time back in Freedom Falls...
I don't think there's any place of this quality there, though, and... things can get violent there too.
Maybe, but at least we've got an entire team there. It's also less likely for him to gather much attention back in Freedom Falls. We'll be able to move around freely with our gear.
Fair point, but I saw both my sister's name and Va'ynna's in my message list, so people there know about what went down here, too.
Ilyna emerges from the bathroom in a dark-blue nightdress that covers her from the neck down to the feet, and it's far from tight fitting. "I don't think we can escapethe media's attention."
Leah nods. "We're beyond that at this point anyway. I just feel that it would be easier to keep him safe on home turf. But it's your call, I trust your judgement."
Ilyna glances towards the balcony door. "You should get some rest," she says with a small smile.. "Or come out watch the sunrise with us."
Leah gives a shake of her head and finishes the last bite of her burger. "Appreciate the offer, but I should get some sleep." she stands from the couch and takes her plate over to the kitchen, setting it on the counter. "Away from her." she adds, nodding to Victoria. She moves over and grabs one of the cots and carries it over to the kitchen.
Ilyna chuckles. "Let's hope she's not a sleepwalker," she says. "Good night." And with that, she makes her way out to the balcony, wincing a little at the change in temperature.
Ilyna moves over to stand beside him, not making her presence known very well. As she's not wearing shoes, her approach is very quiet.
Devin takes a large drink from the bottle. He nearly drops it when Ilyna appears beside him. "Fuckin' ninja." he says with a smirk. "I grew up just outside of Adrasteia, but I've never seen it like this."
Ilyna looks a little amused at his reaction. "It's... a nice view," she says, staring off into the distance.
Devin reaches out with his bottle, attempting to pass it off to Ilyna. "Adrasteia wasn't this-.... developed when I was a kid. No 'Enforcers'. No hotel. Maybe it's getting better."
But... it's still not safe out here. It will never be. Good people get hurt out here even in places that are reputed to be safe.
Devin nods and sighs. "I know... Today was almost proof of that." he says, jutting the bottle towards her, "I just mean... Maybe it's on its way, right?"
Light from the sun can be seen slowly rising. It gives off enough light to see the very edge of the city and the open land beyond it.
Ilyna leans a little on the railing and sighs. "It could be, but... the Terminus Systems will not change," she says. "People here adapt. They're careful and... trust is not given out easily."
Devin pulls the bottle back and takes a sip since it's clear Ilyna isn't taking any. "I guess.... Suppose I've just been thinking about what you said. Maybe I just need to let my folks have the life they want. If this-..." he gestures out over the city with his bottle, "...is what they want, who am I to tell them differently?" he sighs.
Ilyna nods. "You should talk with them, tell them that," she says. "It's a dangerous world, but over a million choose to live here." She looks out into the distance and a small smile creeps up. "When... I lived on Illium," she begins, "I could stand on the balcony for hours if something... troubled me."
Devin glances over at Ilyna, "Illium is a beautiful place." he says, "I did some shooting there. Would love to go back."
Ilyna nods, still not taking her eyes off the distance. "It is," she says. "My father lives there, but... she usually travels to visit my family on Thessia the very few times she gets days off."
Devin gives a couple of nods and takes another long swig from the bottle. "Speaking of traveling..." he begins, "I heard what Leah said. I mean, hard not to. She's not exactly quiet." He gives a shrug and places his hand on the railing, "I could've gotten you and your team killed today. All over some Red Sand. If it'll make things easier, we can go back to Freedom Falls until my departure.
Ilyna smiles slightly. "I'd be happy to," she says, "but wouldn't you want to spend time with your family?"
Devin shakes his head. "Nothing more to say on the subject with them. Had dinner. Gave them my opinion. My mom smiled and waved it off. Like you said, they worked hard for what they have here. It's theirs. I can't take that away from them. And there's nothing for me here. We just sit there awkwardly and trade pleasantries. Love 'em to death, but I think it's probably best if I leave it
alone for now." he sighs, "But I'm gonna do my best to visit a little more regularly. Just-... Need a little time away from them to proccess everything right now."
Ilyna nods. "I understand," she says. "Just don't wait... too long, and it becomes years and decades before you know it."
Devin smirks and nods. "I won't." he assures her. "Suppose we'll be heading out when we all wake up... I should probably get some sleep. You're more than welcome to join me." he says, but quickly puts a hand up, "Nothing weird! Honest. I'm just sayin', the bed is huge. No reason for you to sleep on some uncomfortable cot."
Ilyna chuckles. "If you insist," she says with a small smile, and turns towards the doorway; reluctantly taking her eyes off the distance.
Devin takes one last look towards the sun rise and gulps a large amount of his drink. "Suppose I can understand why my dad gets up so early." he says. He follows behind Ilyna.
Ilyna nods, but she remains quiet to be considerate to the two sleeping in the main room. "Lock the balcony door," she whispers before making her way to the bedroom.
Devin turns and closes the balcony door and hinges it locked. "Done, and done." he says. He follows behind Ilyna into the bedroom. "I'll be a perfect gentleman." he promises as he kicks off his shoes, "No funny business." He doesn't bother with the rest of his clothes, he simply hops into bed. "I'm gonna need a shower when we get back to Freedom Falls. I smell like Victoria."
Ilyna chuckles and gets into bed on the other side. "I'll hold you to that," she says, pulling the duvet/cloth over herself. "And there'll be enough time for a shower in the mroning." She lies on the side, facing away from him.
